Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

I finally feel like I can post here without feeling like a poser. I managed my first dreadmill run in over 2 months. The first 10 minutes were h.e. double hockey sticks but I got through it and in the end felt like I could have kept going but didn’t want to push it! The dreadmill is a clothes hanger no longer!!!!!! :cool1:  :cool1:

I will admit that the shoes might be part of the problem. I went back to a pair I used before my injury (think real olds ones) and my hip/back didn’t hurt. I switched over to my broke in Kayanos and quickly it started to hurt so that is part of the issue. I think the shoe has too much stability for my hip. It is pushing my foot strike into the correct position but it is something that I can’t handle.

If only I’d have tried this soooooo much sooner…… :headache: :sad2:

For those of you starting out I implore you to listen to those on here that are talking about slowly building your base. I have missed not only 1 but 2 WDW Marathon weekends due to injury. It is a horrible feeling to be stuck at home when all your team mates are running the races. :sad1:

Train smart, be careful, and respect the distance and you will be at the starting line! :cheer2:

I purchased a pair of Kayano's at a wonderful discount only to discover that I can no longer wear Kayano's.

These have not been worn at all so if anyone is interested in them please let me know. They are women's size 8.

I agree with this statement. I am one of those who wrote about how awful the full was to run BUT I had two fantastic 20 mile runs so I know the heat hurt me. Plus, I had some sorta issue with my stomach.
The MAIN reason the full was so hard for me is that I refused to give up my time goal of under 5 hours. If I had allowed myself to walk more, or even stop to take pictures with charactors I think I would have felt better and enjoyed it a whole lot more. If I had stayed with my teammates instead of plodding on alone, I would have enjoyed it more. If I had found a wish teammate on the course to run with I would have enjoyed it more. Dave was right there if I had only tried to find him.

Cecilia
Cecliia- I think of that often. We finished so close together. I wish I would have known where you were. You must have been really close to Steve who finished in 4:59. You couldn't have missed me in my WISH shirt.

:cheer2: Fantastic!!:cheer2: Hockeychic/Kim and Tinks! for getting out there so early this am!! Yes, spinning is a great xt!
zoegirl/Bree, PLEASE be careful! No pun intended, but..baby steps!! baby steps!!;) You'll be pushing that jogging stroller soon enough with the EQ!!
Cruella de mom/Cecilia, Soooo WISH we could have met you at WDW!! :)

Wow! It has been so long since I have checked in on here. I am not even a member of this Walking and Running Club, but I WANT to be!

I am unable to do the Disney marathons these days since I can't afford to get there and whatnot, but I am planning to do a half marathon on May 12 and a full on May 29th here in Minnesota.

I got a Donald medal one of the first years we had a WISH team in 2005 -- maybe that was the first year for us? Are there any of those original people still around? I hope so...

Anyway, I have been working on following the MFM training schedule and keeping a log of progress, but would love to have a group to check in with and cheer on!

PLEASE let me be a part of your club??

Ashley
Ashley! You are back! This is great. There is no permission needed to belong here. You don't have to be doing WDW events to belong either. We look to all who are putting in the steps to be part of this WISH Team. Hey everyone, Ashley is a member of the 2005 WISH Walkers founding team. She did it!

Good Morning Team - :cool2:

This morning I did 50 @ 3.8 @ 1%, while watching The Breakfast Club. What a boring movie. I hope it gets better tomorrow.

Sunny - Slicking up the brassiere...I never thought of that....Hmmm...that might be a darn good idea! I really don't want to be permanently scared there... Oh Sunny, sorry you had a rough night. Today is a new day.

Carrie - I didn't mean to insinuate that Dave didn't work hard for his marathon. I just mean that I am awed by his progress and speed. I remember when he joined us and what he went thru in training. I'm just darn impressed! :thumbsup2

John - I'm glad you are "officially" joining us! :yay: You are doing great with your weight loss. Many of us are also working on that. (Yea, like me!)

Paul (Jen's DH) - That is soooo sweet of you!

Jackie - I'm so glad I can help you out. :rotfl: Was I wide awake this morning, cause I had a little trouble getting out of that nice warm bed. BTW, JSYK I have NO aspirations towards the Full. I will probably always do the Half. Hopefully, a little faster every time, but 26.2 miles is a bit much for me. I TOTALLY respect the miles!

Cam - Wow, you're booking on that TM! :woohoo: Can you wait for me at the finish line of the Minnie?

Minnie - Oh I'm glad the TM is no longer a clothes dryer! :thumbsup2 Hee hee. I'm sorry the Kayanos didn't work out for you. But if they are bothering you at least that's a fairly easy problem to fix.

I forgot to tell you guys...remember when I first got my AmphiPod and I was having trouble getting the bottles back in the clips? Well, I called them and asked if they had any suggestions. I spoke to a very nice lady named June who tried everything she could think of, but then said she would send me two 8oz bottles instead of the 10oz that came with it. So she sent them to me - no charge! They work great! Snap on, snap off...no problems. Awesome customer service, AmphiPod! :thumbsup2

Alright...Okaaay....I'll go do some "real" work now....:surfweb:

Hi, Ashley! So nice to see you here again! :goodvibes:

Posting real quick to tell you guys a funny story. President Bush is in our esteemed city today for a visit. The downtown area is swarming with police officers wearing safety yellow (read: WISH lime green) vests that say "POLICE" in large letters. When I first spotted them as I was coming down the exit ramp into the city I immediately thought -- WOW! Cool color! Everyone wants to be a WISHer! :lmao: :rotfl: ;)

Back to work for me. I have a seminar this afternoon. I'll miss you guys!

Lily -- Thank you so much for that nice welcome! I really needed that!

Everyone sounds like their goals are just so awesome, and I am proud to be a part!

I did lie to all of you already once, though. The date for my marathon in May 27th -- that is TWO DAYS closer than I said it was!

Is anybody here from Minnesota? I'm just curious!

It's funny that zebra prints and flames are a dominant piece of conversation. It has been a thing of mine that when I start doing marathons, I want to get the most obnoxious running outfit ever, just to make people stop and think, "What the heck is up with that girl?!" My boyfriend commented that perhaps I ought to wear a bike helmet if that is the response I want. I prefer a pair of loud, floral print shorts with perhaps a striped top? We will see. I will post photos as soon as I know what this outfit is...

Is there a way that we could get info on when everybody's upcoming events are and who is doing what so that we can cheer each other on? If you PM me, I will make a master calendar! Let me know hwat you think!

Ashley

Hey WISH Team!

I just thought since I am so infatuated with the interesting shorts/tights and aspire to own some one day soon I'd repost that link Christa shared a while back for the funky running wear.

Ashley, what a great idea about a WISH Team events calendar thread. Sounds like it might be a lot of work with the events everyone is working on this year.

Cam, too funny about the lime green PD story.
We do take our WISH Team with us wherever we go.

Suzy, you are not a poser! Way to go on putting those clothes on another hanger. Glad you figured out about the Kayanos before you got any more steps in.

Sunny, I would have never thought of putting the stuff ON the garment too. This place is just so full of great information. Putting it on me sure didn't do any good since it slid right off with my sweat. PD that you feel better.

Pat, you COULD do both. You've already got a great pace going. It sure doesn't have to be too fast and the distance training is mostly the same.

Anyone looking to be back of the pack for the events this year, I'm there. I'm planning to do back of the pack and with no injury stuff this year though for both events. Perhaps I'll be putting the steps in with you then.

Good morning, WISHers!
Congratulations to the early bird Hockeychic (there's a 5:30 *AM*? - I had no idea!) and "needs to find a new place to dry her clothes" Minnie!
My weight training was a little intense yesterday (including lunges - I HATE lunges) and boy do my muscles feel it today. I'm going to walk some and if that starts to loosen things up jog/run. And I'm going outside to do it. It's supposed to hit 49 today with no rain. Yay!
I wish I hadn't seen the funky running site. They have a red with white dots that I think would be cute for the Minnie. Of course I would need yellow running shoes to complete the outfit.

Judy - I don't think you insinuated taht at all about Dave! SOemhow, my post sounded that way, ghough. After a previsou discussion about callign Dave a pig, I decided it was needed. :rotfl2:

Steve - I'm changing the rules! Zebra tights required!!!! (Not that I'd notice yours, as I would not look in that direction due to wanting Krista not to hurt me. ;) ) Besides, you two are just too darn cute!

Christa - Yeah, a 60+ YO tried to tell me I could do one a month. No thanks. I may be convinced on 11 weeks a part though. lol. WHipped?

Anne - I was going to try to convince you of how you could do the full. However, you were awesome as a scream team leader! I bet you rand a half just in cheering us on on the back stretch! That was awesime! (I won't hold it against you if you do teh full, though.)

Paul & John - Good to see you here!!!!

Jen - Forgive me for welcoming Paul, as I wold not want Scott here. :p

Ashley - We don't call ourselve teh Disney arathon team oro anything, as we want all to feel welcome. So, you are very welcome. I hope you can get to Disney again, though!

Respecting the distance - While I do not think I will ever try to sway someone new to a full, if you have trained froa year adn done the half, I truely belive that you can do the full. You need to keep that base up, though, and seriously commit to training, well, most of us do.

I ran 3.6 in 40 minutes on teh TM last night. Hoe to go outside tomorrow. High of 19 has me dreading it a bit, though.

Thansk to everyone on their help with close marathons!

You can look, I don't care. ;) ;) ;) Now, Scott might mind!! :)

Ok, I took 2 classes, at the rec. center yesterday, and boy am I sore! The AM class is muscle madness, which works all body parts, the PM class is core functioning, which works the abs. I like both, but the pm class is really helpful because the trainer helps you design your own personal workout.

Who knew that babies would be so time consuming? Certainly not me ;)

Just wait until he's three! Chad & I often talk about how easy it was when Zack was a baby...little did we know that then! He was just, as Angelina would say (:crazy2:), a blob. We could do things around the house, etc. He would just sit there! Now he follows us around & we get nothing done! :rotfl: And he talks. Much better when they can't talk! :rotfl2:

I digress... yesterday afternoon I started developing a sore throat thing. I did not do my stretch & strengthening. I called in sick today and slept 14 hours! :woohoo: But, my throat is worse. Not sure if I am going to try to get a walk/run in or not today.

Kristi I have a sore throat thingy going on too, so I'm going to hit the couch as soon as I get out of a 1pm meeting.

Just a quick post to say I got on the TM at the community center while DD was in gymnastics. 4.0 miles in 36:ish and then did a little upper body work.

Kristi and Monte--hope ya'll feel better soon!

kristi--I also have a 3 year old, and boy don't I miss those days when I could leave her in the room on the floor and come back and she was in the same place. ;)

Well, better go--Ds screaming again b/c, heaven forbid, I include fruits and veggies with lunch. Bad mommy!

Well there goes my WO!
I just left work and picked DD6 up from school. She is sick. So I am forced to be at home and I have to clean it b/c I cannot stand the mess.:scared:

Just wait until he's three! Chad & I often talk about how easy it was when Zack was a baby...little did we know that then! He was just, as Angelina would say (), a blob. We could do things around the house, etc. He would just sit there! Now he follows us around & we get nothing done! And he talks. Much better when they can't talk!
DUDE! Wait until they are in school and you have to do homework with them. My girls have so much HW and they are only in 1st and 3rd grade.:scared1: And YES it is better when they cannot talk...OOOOHHH they can be sassy princess: princess: !

Christa - I can't even begin to imagine how Sassy girls can be. My two boys are hard enough. DS5 has homework every Friday (and I am talking 2-3 pages and he is just in kindergarten. I don't think I ever had homework in kindergarten let alone 1st or 2nd grade.

Oooohhhh Jennnn.....well???? :confused3

You better take me up on my offer about the Mickey before I change my mind!!!!
