Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

Maria - where is the harpoon race? Boston or VT, or somewhere else?

Jen - Ok, here's the deal. And I am going to type & post this before I come to my senses....
if you do Mickey, I will do Mickey. There I said it. Your hubby Paul is a sweetheart!

Does anyone think the Mickey is really going to be all that 'special?' Chad has the 10th anniversary one. it's the Mickey head, but with "10th Anniversary WDW Marathon January 12,2003" on it. Yeah, it's different from every other year with that plate hanging off the bottom to differentiate it. But in my lowly opinion as a Disney-freak, it's not *that* special.

OMG, what have I done???

Here is the deal. If you run the full I will do the half. Remember I am a biker and not a runner. I might be walking, but that is the sacrifice I will make. Besides I am jealous of your medal.

PS. Don't come into my office and give me that look.

Paul your DH

Hey Paul, my DH is going to walk the half next Jan and I am (I think) going to do the full. It is really a lot of fun!

Ok it is time to stop lurking and start participating. I am John, DH of Karen (Kareneast)

I have been reading the WISH threads since January 06. In fact last year I even posted my goals.

They were:
1) Lose Weight (I need to drop more then I want to admit)
2) Exercise more.
3) Do the Disney Half Marathon in 2008 (I thought that there is no way I would be ready to do it in 2007. My DW Karen (Kareneast) and DS Sean were doing it in 2007).

Well I have lost some weight but have a lot more to go. I was down 25 pounds but back a few at the end of the year. We have been doing a lot if walking and even did some 5k’s and the Philadelphia Half Marathon in September. After meeting my goal of finishing upright I decided to give the Disney Half a try in 2007. All I can say is I finished and got my medal (Finished in 03:30:18).

So this year I am going to continue on my quest to get healthier. I weighed in the Monday January 12th after returning from Disney at 241.5. This past Monday I weighed in at 237.

I am going to keep hitting the gym and increase my endurance for Walking/Running as well as firming up.

I think with the support of my family and the folks on the WISH board I will not have a problem.

I feel so positive that I can, I signed up for the Goofy 2008 yesterday.
John

Jen -- I have absolutely no doubt that you can train up to complete the full. You are a strong, determined woman! And how sweet that DH is supporting you this way and taking on the challenge!
Come on, hon, don't miss out on that fabulous Mickey medal!!!!

Which reminds me...doesn't someone around here have an almost complete set of medals?
You know, the Minnie, the Castle, the Donald, and the Mickey...all but the GOOFY.
Hmmmm...CAM. Who could that be??????

Hi John!
Woo Hoo - another WISHer going Goofy!
Congrats on those 4.5 lbs. too - weigh to go!

Maria - where is the harpoon race? Boston or VT, or somewhere else?

The Harpoon Race originates and ends at their brewery in the Marine Industrial Park in Boston. My dh has done it for the last few years. It is not a supercrowded field and it's relatively flat, so he thought it would be a good place for me to get my feet wet.

Hi John! -- You are a success story already! You are clearly destined to go Goofy :)

Wow! It has been so long since I have checked in on here. I am not even a member of this Walking and Running Club, but I WANT to be!

I am unable to do the Disney marathons these days since I can't afford to get there and whatnot, but I am planning to do a half marathon on May 12 and a full on May 29th here in Minnesota.

I got a Donald medal one of the first years we had a WISH team in 2005 -- maybe that was the first year for us? Are there any of those original people still around? I hope so...

Anyway, I have been working on following the MFM training schedule and keeping a log of progress, but would love to have a group to check in with and cheer on!

PLEASE let me be a part of your club??

Ashley

Oh good - I was hoping for Boston and not VT.
I work in Boston & have a monthly pass for the Govt Ctr. garage - this works great!

You EVIL, EVIL team mates!!!:lmao:

We're not back 3 weeks and you're signing up for the FULL and GOOFY!!!!!:scared:

BEFORE the horrible weather conditions at the half, I said I would wait for Pat's report on the full, because I knew she would walk it. After I did the half, I said NO WAY!! No Full, NEVER. DH said, "Suuuurrrre. You get on the WISH boards and they'll have you convinced to do the FULL." YIKES!!!! Oh, I do think that anniversary Mickey medal would be a good one to have.::MickeyMo But like Kristi said, how special can they make it? AND I have an inkling that once DD and her friend do Minnie, THEY will sign up for the Full!! and if Pat is going to do the full again....

Mel, we should put a disclaimer on the boards..."WARNING!!! THIS ACTIVITY MAY BECOME ADDICTIVE!!

Welcome, John!! Way to go on your weight loss and goals. See above for comments on your Goofy!!:upsidedow
Jackie, you are doing so well! Keep talking to Judy, she'll listen!
Jen, Oh, your DH is a keeper!! How cute was that??!!:rotfl:
Running Lilo, sounds like you are being VERY realistic!
Welcome Back, Ashley! ANY running/walking event you are participating in is of interest to us!

I think Wendie does have the full set, including RFTT and Goofy.

Susan...I think the Couch to 5K comes from coolrunning.com.

Ashley...welcome back!

Paul and John...welcome!

Anne...come do the full! It will be fun! Really! If I convince you, will you convince me?

Jen...you too! I need a running buddy! Maybe Krista can join us if she doesn't have other plans

I encouraged several people last year adn tehy started hard and endedup injuered by marathon time. Trying to push a little less this year. ;)

I don't want to be a downer on everyone making great commitments for the mickey or goofy, but I'm worried that some of you aren't respecting the distance as Bingham says. Last year, I sat here and watched as everyone started out so eagerly, but like Carrie said I'm concerned some of our teammates aren't remembering how important it is to build up the strong base first. I just don't want you guys to end up injured and have to miss your race. I now know how tough it is watching everyone you trained with through the year get their medals while you have to sit on the sidelines. IT SUCKS! Just a thought for all of you struggling with which race to choose, especially the newbies. I feel like everyone is being so supportive and encouraging, but no one is reminding everyone how important it is to take it slow so you can get to the starting line injury free! I love you guys and don't want you to be disappointed come race day.

John and Ashley--welcome! And whatever you do, don't let Kevin (solotraveler) convince you that wearing zebra striped tights is a a required initiation into the club. That's just not right.

Steve

Harpooners!

DH just called me with what's available now -- the 5-mile will be Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. They suggest checking the website once a week at harpoonbrewery.com, the information will be coming...

Thanks for the info. I was on the website today and became a Friend of Harpoon. I figure I drink enough of their beer they should be my friend.

Dena--I couldn't agree with you more. No matter how tempting a certain medal may be, your safety and health is WAY more important. Those medals will always be there, pace yourself and run the marathons when you are ready for them. Great advice!

Welcome Ashley and John!!

Jen--your DH is just the sweetest thing ever!!! What a keeper!!!

Blimey, I know there's a time difference, but how long have I been away. Nothing much to report here, still wandering around in one trainer. I can't tell if my foot is getting better or not, it still feels wierd if I do stand on it. Have decided to skip cycle tonight until I see the physio tomorrow and he can tell me if I'm improving as I don't want to risk anything flaring it up again. Am so used to having injuries that are cured by one session of physio, I'm not liking this one at all!!! Am still going to running club to drink beer however!!! Helen

I'm beginning to feel like I'll be all alone in the half... except for the hordes of people doing the GOOFY! I'm going to be perfectly content with a Donald medal in '08. At least I know I'll have DD with me, since I'll be paying for her registration - no chance that she'll have a change of mind at the last minute and switch to the full...

Jackie

Anne

ooh Anne:yay: I haven't made a final decision, but I am seriously considering doing the FULL again next year. I said before I went to FL in Jan that this would be my first and only full, mostly because of the training time commitment. But gosh, that :mickeyjum medal is so cool, and with next year being a special anniversary medal, well....what can I say? I have actually been considering Goofy:scared1: but that really would be over the top I think. As it stands now DH is going to do the half and I will do the full. He is concerned about doing the half by himself (which is what kind of got me thinking Goofy) but I assured them there would be plenty of WISHers along the way. So I am talking to my boss tomorrow about getting the time off next Jan. Walking the full is very doable, please give it some thought!! And there is nearly a year to prepare, and you already have a starting base!! Yep, it is so easy to get sucked in!!
