Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

Mel--Do the Pig. Do the Pig.

Erica--You are going to tackle the hills on the full???? :worship: :worship: :worship: Did you run the Pig last year? We did the half, love the course! Stephen and I live north of Cincinnati, in the Kings Island area. Actually, Stephen can see the Drop Zone from his office at work.

I think I am the problem for all the posts we accumulate in a week.

Krista, Dave and I did the Pig 10K last year. I have been doing hill training with what hills we have here, though nothing like Ault hill in Cincy.
The half marathon that I am doing here on March 31st is billed as being fast and flat. I don't know who decided this is a flat course, because it is anything but.

Erica:)

My butt hurt for DAYS after the Pig and the climb up Ault Hill. But the view from Eden Park?? WOW!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Gosh! It is so neat to check in here and see all the events taking place!

I am training for the MedCity Marathon in Rochester, MN on May 27th, and the New Prague Half Marathon in New Prague, MN on May 12th. After that I am thinking of doing the Run Wild Marathon in Missoula, MT on July 15th. Anybody interested in those ones? I would like to culminate the season with the Twin Cities Marathon in October. We'll see about that one, I know it's spendy and fills up quickly...

I was sick on Monday and Tuesday, but played volleyball anyway... I just couldn't stay away! (And then I couldn't go to work on Tuesday, and I slept ALL DAY!) Yesterday I went to LTF (Fitness place) and did the Cycle 60 class (but I went pretty easy on it, and didn't leave the sweaty girl that I usually do) and hopped on the TM for my MFM 40 minute workout -- 3.97 miles.

Can working out loosen mucus and phlegm and sickness and make you feel better? Because I really think it did...

Enough about me! I am so impressed with everyone who manages to find time for all of this while still managing a family. I hardly find time and I just manage ME! Keep it up, all of you!

LOVE being back here!

I will start a calendar thread, and update it as people respond!

Ashley

Hey Maggie we can learn together, these people are amazing

Sounds great Kim! They are amazing aren't they!

Maggie – what an awesome word to think of! Awesome friends gave me a beautiful bangle bracelet they had made for me for the marathon weekend that says “WISHes will come true.” I wear it all the time – it brings me peace and certainty in the magic we can make. I am glad you are already finding out that WISH holds so many positive implications. This team will motivate you when necessary, inspire you when you are down, celebrate with you when you are up, and it will be a constant beacon of hope and inspiration and friendship and support.

Cam - nicely said. I just have to keep logging on. I am not going to lose sight of it this time.

Maggie - I walked the half this year with my DH. We maintained a walking pace of 13:40 until we got to MK then we stopped to get many pictures with the characters along the way. Our overall pace was around 14:00. When we started training last summer I remember walking 2 miles at a 16:00 pace seemed extrememly hard. I thought that I would be in fear of the sweepers and never get to stop for pictures. We followed the MFM plan and it worked for me. Next year my DH will probably go at his pace (8:00) instead of mine - so I'll be looking for someone to pass the time with.

Kathy, sounds good. I just hope I can be fast enough to keep up by then. I just don't want to be caught by the sweepers!

I had a LW (long walk since I walk not run) today, the longest I've ever done! 6 MILES! I've done 5 before, but I'm so excited because "I walked 6 miles today!" It's interesting what a sense of accomplishment that gives me!

But, it taught me that I need to get a seamless tank to walk in, my arms were chafing!

Stacey, way to go! I am a walker too. If you find a top that keeps you from chafing issues, I want to know about!

I made it to the track and walked 2 miles. Pace was best ever. Proper posture is still something I am really trying to focus on and maintain. Took extra time for stretching after. Felt good.

Maggie

Mel--Do the Pig. Do the Pig.

Krista - You crack me up!!! Oh BTW, found a dog sitter for my 1/2 marathon in May. Sadie is going to stay at Grandpa's, she will be so happy. I still giggle when I remember your discussion on Hines throwing up a sock. Whenever I see a sock in the road, I think of you.

Ashley - I have thought about the Twin Cities Marathon. But if you are doing all those marathons, I am sure you are way faster than me.

Ohhhhh... have to share. DH and I picked up his new running shoes today. I gave them to him for his birthday... but there are rules. One is that he MUST NEVER GIVE UP, second is that he has to wear Lime Green!!! :rotfl2: Oh and he also has to treat them like babies. Those shoes were expensive to be treated poorly!

I'm giggling with glee because I finally made it over my "hump", yep I did my steps today! Exercise for me traditionally goes great Monday and Tuesday, I rest Wednesday, and then I seem to be done for the week. Not this week! Reading and posting here totally gave me a new attitude. Thank you guys so much. Honestly, your commitment and accomplishments have got me moving and feeling powerful -- like I can do the Donald! I ran almost 2.5 miles in 30 minutes, which was a little challenging and felt good. As I've said before, I have plenty of room for improvement! Tomorrow it's on to xtraining on the exercise bike.

Stacey -- Walking 6 miles sounds amazing to me! I hope you are very proud of yourself. Congratulations on your new accomplishment!

To all the other beginners -- I don't know about you, but I'm feeling like I won the free personal trainer lottery. I can't believe all the wonderful advice and experience on this thread. The WISH team totally rocks!

Ashley -- Your schedule sound so ambitious! You are definitely keeping busy and I bet having a great time!

I don't remember who had the nutrition questions and who posted responses, but thanks to everyone. This is such good information, and half the time I don't even realize the questions I should be asking! :upsidedow

Whaaaa?!? :scared1: Neither you nor Steve mentioned this before... Actually, I looked at the course map, and noticed the 2-3 mile long hill. That's just cruel.

Melissa- Come play with us for the Flying Pig. Colleen- Are you coming out for the Pig, or did you get corrupted by the Minnie crowd?

Ashley- Wow, you are hard core. Three marathons and a half marathon this season. Whoa, you go girl!!!

Mel--Do the Pig. Do the Pig.

Melissa, I will do the pig if you do the pig!:flower3:

Actually, I am seriously considering it!::yes::

Krista, Steve, Erica, Dave, maybe our running buddy Dave...and a good feed promised at the end...what more could a girl want?

Colleen

Maggie- Welcome back! I definitely remember you from last year because our oldest daughter, who had her 9th b-day in Disney the day before the marathon, is named Maggie too. Good job on your 2 mile walk. Keep it up. That's where I started last year.

Jen- Happy birthday to your DH. Tell him I said he looked good in his WISH shirt hanging out by the pool at WL. I never would have met you if it weren't for him.

Maria- WTG on getting over the hump. I know that feeling too. I used to do it all the time. Exercise well on the weekend, and then do nothing the rest of the week. Never forget too, you're helping us too. It's great to read your excited and enthusiastic posts. It helps keep us going too. I didn't know what I was going to do after I finished the marathon, but I seem to be keeping at it.

YAAAAAYYYY!!!! Whoo hoooo Colleen!!! party:

I'll second that! :thumbsup2

Maria - Way to go!!!!!!!!

Dave! COrrupt??? Corrupt her???? :p

Melissa -You're gonna' win the free trip to the Minnie, though, remeber?

Food - I believe it was Kim who asked about 10 pages ago

I eat a Snickers MArathon Energy bar and have an orange Powerade (all otehr flavors give me heartburn) about an hour before I run. I have low-ish blood sugar, though, so it's a must. For LRs, I have a Gu about every 4 miles (40 to 50 minutes, ok closer to 50 than 40) My dh cannot eat 3 hours before he runs, though. Just got to figrue your body out and see what it responds to.

e-bay medals - The one explanation I heard is tha t the sellers really do use them to feed their addiction (entry fees). There are many people out there who like all Disney memoriabilia. Think about it. They are limited in number and only a small percentage actually get sold. I was horrified last year when I saw it, though. :scared1:

Krista - SOrry to burst your bubble, but you are currently #3 behind me & Dave this week for posts. (Go to the list of threads and hit teh number under teh posts column and you get how many from who.)

Doh!!! I thought I said I was busy at work this week!

Colleen and Melissa- You may remember this, it's our youngest daughter's 6th b-day today. I'm making dinner for her now. I asked her what she wanted and she said "mashed potatoes!!!" Remember I told you both during the race that she's a "mashed potatotatarian".

GAHHHHH... too funny. My DD3 is the same thing. Give her potatoes and she is one happy kid!!!! Last year someone asked her what her favorite food was and she said "Mashed Potatoes". Kids are too cute.

I am going to tell her she is a mashed potatotatarian. Wow that is hard to type!!!!

So Krista, Dave and Carrie are the reason why we are almost to 30 pages. Nice... you know, I haven't gotten as much work done this week because of you. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!! My job could be at risk.... just kidding!!!

I am pretty ashamed to admit this, but i'm seriously considering listing ours from this year. We could use the money to feed our addiction too. That basically makes the race pay for itself (which will help justify it next year) My biggest thought is that they are sitting in a pile on the floor. I don't really value the medals (although i would have been furious if i didn't get one!!!!) I just came back this year b/c it was so much fun the year b/4 and honestly b/c i enjoy you guys so much that i wanted to see you again!!! I hope you all are not too disgusted w/ me for thinking about this. :confused3

Training question: If i did 3 miles on the treadmill while looking at a topo map that I put over the screen, does that count as a trail run? Next time I'm thinking about adjusting the elevation of the tm based on the route that i'm choosing on the map in my mind!
