Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

Carrie, that is awesome, you must be in great shape.
lol. Like everything else, that's relative. Much better than I wasn in MArch 05, though. Here's my take. If you do a walk/run and you can walk close to a 15-16 mpm pace now (for a mile or 2), you should be able to do the full. If youare not there yet, I'm not saying you can't. Just that I would feel pretty confident that you can under those circumstances. You could likely run the full, but it will be tough. I gained a lot of weight when I did my first one. Partly because I decided that "I just ran ___ miles. I can eat whatever I want" and partly because I was "ramping up" for 10 months. My body (and my appetitie) never got to level off. HTH.

Funny, though, when I wear my heart rate monitor, I'll get about a mile into the run and have to reach back and adjust the back strap because it keeps sliding around. Can't imagine how bad it would be if it was a real bra. So ladies--I feel your pain! :)

Steve
So, what can be done about it I'm wondering...commando is NOT an option so don't go there. I wore all things I have before during training and this time ended up after the half with major rash issues at the bra line. On full day, I carried body glide and applied frequently, but how does one anticipate what areas to use body glide if there has not been problems before? Was it solely due to the extreme heat do you think? I really don't EVER want to go through that again.

Carrie--Oh NO!!! You just dispelled the myth I've been feeding DH on Saturdays after my LRs!! I show him the Garmin and say "See I just burned 2000cals, that means i can eat whatever I want!" And up to now it's worked!;) He's usually at the grocery getting chocolate ice cream or drive thru from McDs on Sat. nights!:rotfl:

Vic--we'll be running at the same time--just different places! I love Seaside, one of my fav vacation spots--so if it weren't for that darn Marathon here on 3/4 I'd be there!

Well, Mommy duty calls! :goodvibes

Crzy4pooh....thank you I feel really good about it, I will be going in the morning so up at 5AM......:scared1:

Aladdinsgirl, thank you it was slow coming off but I know with just a few more changes to my current diet and exercise the rest will come off.

Susan.....wow 2 a days, haven't done that since I was playing rep hockey.....WTG:hug:

Carrie, thank you for sharing your experiences, but what scares me is the weight gain part.....yikes....I was hoping to be able to still lose weight. I think with the treadmill at the gym I will get a better idea of what I might be able to do, I know it is much different then running or walking outside but it might be a good judge for me. I am pretty close to race pace but the longest walk I have done was a 10K in the middle of snow storm.... I was 9.3 min per km and I believe race pace per KM is 9. I have to get better on the conversion to imperial measurements.

Kim

Sorry Stephanie! Took me a year to learn this, but burnign 20o0 calories, means you can eat 2000 calories that day. Unless, you actually want to lose weight. ;) I do allow myself to go a bit wild teh week after the marathon while at WDW, but I try not to over do it, besides that. Doesn't always work, but I try.

Lily - I forgot to tell you. I had the same issues. Scabbed in in 4 places after the marathon. I thought of you the first tiem the water from teh showwer hit and told me soemthing was wrong. :scared1: It must have been the heat adn all teh water that I dumped on myself. think how soft your skin gets after a shower. being wet for 6 hours.....

Ohhh me too! And I raced in the same bra I did lots of LRs in, so I didn't get it. Maybe it was the heat, and sweating, and the water I poured down my shirt...I still have marks. :sad2:

Kim - Many here will tell you that being "in training" does not assist weight loss. "In traning" is when the 16 and 20-week programs start, though. IMO, if you are reamping up teh whole year, though it will be harder. If you can get to a good point before real training starts and level off to some extent, you should be better. I think the half may be a better fit if you really want to lose weight, but that's just my opinion. You may be better able to pull it off than I was. You do have some time. train for teh Minnie and see how you feel and what your weight is doing. that will tell you more than anything. If you are up to 9 miles at pace in May, you could probably do fine with just doing 45 min 2 to 3 times a week adn 6 to 8 miles on teh weekends and be ready for training. That would be level enough that your appetite should be ok too. Have I talked in enough circles yet? ;)

Doesn't EQ Christa call it Chub Rub?? I love that. I had it too, so I definately think it was all the excess sweat!!!!

So, I am still debating.... part of me keeps saying "Jen, do the FULL, you can do it"... then the other part says "Are you crazy, you liked the 1/2, why ruin that feeling". Then I read race reports and go GAAAAAA... I can't do a full, all these people say it was horrible. But then the weather was bad this year... but then it could be bad next year too. Can you see my dilema or am I just wacked????

Harpooners!

DH just called me with what's available now -- the 5-mile will be Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. They suggest checking the website once a week at harpoonbrewery.com, the information will be coming...

Jen, doing the FULL wasn't horrible (at least for me), the conditions were horrible. I walked the half in Jan 06, finishing in 3:29:27. I finished the full this January in 6:55:51, mostly walking, with an occasional happy wog. Truth be told, I felt better immediately after the full this year than I did immediately after the half last year. Both times I spent the entire next several days touring the parks extensively. I did remain injury free during my training, so I was very fortunate in that. Doing the FULL is very manageable if you build up your training slowly. I followed MFM for the 4 halfs I did in 2006, and the full this Jan.

That Mickey medal is very sweet, and next year's is going to be extra special.....:rolleyes1

Do the full... you can do it Jen. I did it, and had a great time. You can do it. You already have such a great base in from the 1/2. You can do it!!! I honestly enjoyed myself the whole way for the full. I think I was pretty lucky. I guess I had pretty good training, and I had great company along the way (thank you Melissa, Colleen, and Stephen).

Jen - I more than likely would have saifd the half was awful this year too. If you liked the half this year, under those circumstances, I think you'll be fine with the full. I don't know if love was the right word for it oin 06, but you're in better shale now than I was when I started training in Match 05. So, you CAN do it!!!!

Chub rub - I always thought that was for the gthighs.

Hey Team,

I've got a question that's driving me crazy. I'm trying to figure out which '08 event I should set as my goal. Completing the WDW 1/2 (W/R) is always going to be my ultimate goal, but it doesn't have to be in '08. The baby is due the 4th of July so that gives me 6 months to get ready for an event. Actually probably less due to the 6 week recovery period. So let's say I'll be able to work at it for 5 months. Now that coupled with breastfeeding (sorry guys! tmi...) and having to do feedings every three hours with very little sleep I'm just feeling like there's no way I'll be able to realistically do the 1/2 in '08. Honestly, the thought of it makes me exhausted and I've felt no desire to go ahead and sign up. I don't know if I'm having a moment of doubt or if I'm finally taking an honest look at everything. Right now the better fit for me feels like it should be working up to (W/R) the 5k in January, the Minnie '08, DL 1/2 '08, and then WDW 1/2 '09.

I would love some help if anyone has any insight.

Here is the deal. If you run the full I will do the half. Remember I am a biker and not a runner. I might be walking, but that is the sacrifice I will make. Besides I am jealous of your medal.

PS. Don't come into my office and give me that look.

Paul your DH

OK... Now how fair is it that DH is lurking on my WISH thread. ARRGGG, the pressure to decide. Tho in the end I bet I will settle on the full. NOW I just need to make it work with my work schedule!!

Thanks to Dave, Carrie, and Pat --- You guys are AWESOME.

OH and did I mention I found a dog babysitter so I can do the Green Bay 1/2 Marathon in May?? Well I did, so now I have no reason to slack off. I think if I can do another 1/2 marathon and a bunch of other races, I should be OK for the full. After all, I can always walk more like I did this year.

Jen -- I have absolutely no doubt that you can train up to complete the full. You are a strong, determined woman! And how sweet that DH is supporting you this way and taking on the challenge!
Come on, hon, don't miss out on that fabulous Mickey medal!!!!

Training Question:
Scott really wants to do Detroit end of October. We couldn;t make ourselve do alocal half last year, but now he wants to do the Detroit full. Ho knows. It does go over teh bridge to Canada and back through the tunnel (or vice versa). It's October 28. It's 11 weeks before WDW. He thinks that if we do a r/w, we can revocer, do some 10-milers inbetween and be ok to run WDW. Now, our muscles wer almost fully recovered by Wednesday with the r/w we did this year adn we would not be walkign the parks every day like we did this year, so injries could recover too. What do people think? Is it do-able? Any thoughts of what we should do btwn races?

Real quick....Last year...I did a marathon Dec 8th then Goofy and this year, I did a trail marathon in October....and I was fine....this is my $.02
1. Figure out which marathon you want to run hard...if you want to run one for time.
2. I ran the Oct. marathon easy..then took Sunday-Thursday off...then my 10 miler was Friday..I just ran this slow then went back to my normal training.
3. For the dec marathon...I ran that HARD then started my taper for Goofy.
4. If you keep up your marathon training...you can just run 10-15 for 3 LRs a month and do 1 20 miler each month...this will keep your body used to the mileage w/o getting hurt.
5. this is totally doable! I had a group of friends do a marathon a month last year....Yes 12 marathons in a year.....their times were slower...well not all of them...some got faster) but they had a great time.

Yeah, Paul, so glad you are getting in on the action!!

Jackie - That's too funny! :rotfl2: I hope I keep up my side of the conversation. But, ummmm, what Donald medal picture in my signature??? :confused3

Oops - I just assumed she got it from your signature - now that I look more closely it appears she took one of the post-race photos and zoomed in on the medal from that! Anyway, whatever you said this morning got me through the run!
