Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Wow I thought that right before the Marathon was bad for keeping up with the discussion but now I am not so sure. But I do vote that we keep it a weekly thread that way we are not clogging up the boards with a bunch of threads and override other important threads, like race reports and Team order information. But that is just how I feel if the majority want it the other way then by golly we will do it on a daily basis.

Welcome to all our new teammates.:cheer2:

Well I went back to the gym on Monday and did 2.95miles in 35min. They were not busy so I could keep my treadmill longer.:woohoo: So in non training news my online courses have picked up speed and I seem to have something to do each day. Not that I am complaining but classes were supposed to start on the 22nd and most of my online courses started on the o15. Imagine my shock signing on for the first time and finding out I had a Quiz due that night. Good thing I was over prepared, made out a schedule and I have been sticking to it. Ran into a speed bump though, my laptops hard drive decided after 31/2years together that it was time to part ways. Why could it no t have waited till spring break or something like that. But good news is I have a desktop to fall back on and my new laptop should be coming home latter today. Thankfully I back all my data up or I would be in much worse shape then I am now.:wizard:

Angie- I use the Nike plus and a Garmin. I love the Nike plus because of the online community plus goals and challenges that you can set for yourself. They keep me motivated. I really have had few problems with it being off from the Garmin but I run with Nike shoes and have taken the time to calibrate it. One word of warning though, if you have a new video Nano, there is a software speed bump. It tells you on the screen that you have gone two to three times as far as you really have gone but in the mileage totals and what it syncs back to the website it is accurate. Hopefully this will be fixed with a software update soon.

Jeff- I am not sure if I can swing coming back to the Mainland For the Marathon in 2009. I would love to do it but I just am not sure. Are you doing the Minnie Marathon?

Sorry for the long post,
Erin

Stacey - I'm gonna go post a thread about the AirDrives. :thumbsup2

Angie - I've got a Garmin 205 and it was the best thing I've bought since I started running. I had the Nike+ and it was always way off. I kept trying to recalibrate it, too. I would be lost w/o the Garmin. DH and I share it, too. The rare times we run together we'll just manually enter in the info on the program for one of us. You will read you can't share the Garmin or the program, but that is wrong. I just made both of us our own folder and I move the data after each run into the correct file. Now he wants the new Garmin coming out that looks more like a watch. I told him he could probably get the 205 cheaper soon, but of course he wants the new gadget... :rolleyes1

Count me in for any WISH gear! You are the best, Mel!

Thanks, but I can't take credit for everything. Carrie's been handling the shirt orders for several years, Dave did the socks, and Karen and John made the backpacks. It's truly a team effort!

I did 2.5 miles again tonight which seemed much harder at 78% humidity than it was Mon at 46% humidity. I think I'm starting to figure this stuff out!

I had a creepy moment on my way home. I was almost there when I noticed a car coming toward me on the road. As he got closer, I realized the driver was videotaping me :confused3 Bizarre! We have a cop in our neighborhood...I'll mention it next time I see him.

Nothing yet from RaceReady, but eye2eye said the shirts would be $25 each. If we tell them what we want (I can send a photo of the current shirts) they'll work up a design for us to preview.

Judy...it was sad about Heath Ledger. Knight's Tale is one of my favorite movies.

Angie...carb loading before Sarasota would be cool! Maybe we can get Chester and Tracy to come too!

Check out the new WISH team Bios/Pics sticky at the top of the page. I'll be keeping the team list updated there!

Good training everyone!

Sorry...that was me...guess I'm not used to having two of us DISing on the laptop

No training to report here. The past 2 nights we have been having flash flood warning rain storms. I sware I have not heard rain for that hard and that long since Hurricane Wilma!!!! My sister's garage flooded but thankfully the trench the built around it is stopping the flood.

On a better note I am leaving for Disney tomorrow morning. My neice has a gymnastics competition at WWoS so we are all going up and are going to share a cabin at Ft Wilderness. We are all so excited. My sister's family hasn't been to Disney since Dec 2004. I am treating everyone to the Pirate and Princess party. My neice read the info on the party and she is even more excited. She is going to dress up in her Halloween costume - a pirate. How cool!!!

I am hoping to at least get a chance to run through Ft Wilderness. If we end up getting internet access (that is if my sister brings her laptop since I broke mine) I will try and post. I will miss you guys!! Be back Sunday.

I just want to announce.... I was able to cash in frequent flyer miles and book a weekend trip to Disney for the Minnie...

MINNIE HERE I COME!

Mel - Do you still want to run with me??? I am aiming for 1:50!

Jen YEAHHHHH!!! :cool1: I'm soo glad you are coming!!

Everyone who offered opinions on Garmin -- THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! It helped a lot. Our friend who just did Goofy uses Nike one and he said it is always off. All you opinions have helped me a lot. Now to find the right one at the right price!!

So ever since I posted about Spirit of Marathon movie a couple of weeks I have wanted to go ssooooo bad. I didn't think it was all going to work out, babysitters, theatre closest sold out, etc. etc. But after a REALLY BAD DAY AT WORK :scared1:

The movie thing worked out I bought our tickets online tonight and we get to go to a dinner before hand. HOLY COW IT'S LIKE A REAL DATE!!

Forgot what that's like!!

No training today and tomorrow's training will be virtual - Spirit of the Marathon movie. Have a good night everyone.

angie

Woo hoo Jen!

Looksliek we talked some sense into Pat too! :rotfl2:

I have the Garmin 205, and for the most part love it. Sometimes I have trouble getting it to synch up (and the one horrible run where it started counting backward:eek: ), but other than that, no complaints!

Okay, off to work! Have a great day all!

This happened to my DH on one of his last LRs before the Marathon, he was NOT HAPPY!!

We are doing the same thing, I am really excited about it!!

Absolutely! PR or the ER!

Well I did 7.5 miles tonight and I felt great. Even got it to 6.5 on the old treadmill and really didn't feel winded at all. My knee is a little sore, but other than that I feel great.

Now the bad news. Halfway through my run I smelled something funny. Couldn't figure out what it was and I even hopped off the treadmill to make sure nothing was on fire. By the time I was finished running it really smelled bad. I think I burned up the motor on the treadmill tonight. :rolleyes1 It may still be covered under a waranty, but we aren't sure. Calling in the morning about it.

So it will either be beg the folks to use their treadmill or hit the pavement in the cold.

Absolutely! PR or the ER!

Perhaps with all the heat issues in running eventsa lately, we could nix this phrase. Too much worry fo me! ;)

Great info on eye2eye. Thanks Mel!

Will someone please come and stand in front of my fridge to stop me sticking my head in it. I have eaten six Tim Tam biscuits (chocolatey things) in the last hour while watching Beverly Hills 90210 on DVD!! I'm eating like I'm still marathon training - and it's not going to be pretty soon! Nail is looking much better so I think I'll start running again Monday whether it's fallen off or not.

And the Heath Ledger thing here is mad. The entire Oz equivalent of Regis and Kathie Lee was about him this morning. I wasn't here when Steve Irwin died but I know that was a national period of mourning - and this is similar.

And Judy, sadly I won't be there this Jan. It's a big (scary depressing) birthday this year and I'm going to be hiding somewhere exotic on the big day - and as my birthday is mid Dec I can't justify a trip in Jan as well. I am still considering Disneyland though, I have to go to England around that day and it is half way sooooo......Helen

Helen - Glad to know that I'm not the only one still in training fro a cookie eating contest mode! I am trying, but starvign. yeah starving doesn't last long. SO, not diong 2009? Must be why you avoided me on Main Street last week. Just walked on by. Actually, Scott noticed you, but still.. ;)

SamSam, we still have openings for more players on the miles team if you are interested. It will begin on Feb 1st and run till Dec 31st.

Combat Panda:hippie:

Thank you. I think joining would be good for my motivation, but it seems that most on this thread are much more competitive and experienced than I am and I definitely don't want to let a team down because of my inexperience. However, if newbies, with no experience are welcome, I would love to join.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one starving!! It's becoming a real issue...i'm CONSTANTLY hungry...maybe I should just go back to 18 milers every Sunday to offset? :rotfl:

Training wise I did jump back on the elliptical tonight for 40 minutes. It was a solid workout for me...one of those nights where I felt like I could XT forever.

Tomorrow I hope to finally get outside and run...the last two had to take place on the treaddie due to cold rains. Still gonna keep it low mileage though...I think the body is still recovering from the Goofy...will probably do 4. Not sure of how many to do for my long run this Sunday...maybe 6-8?

Oh well...back to dreaming of cookies, cheese-its, ice cream and coca-colas...
