Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Bill: :lmao:

But seriously, Krista, for me it was 3 months, to the day and time when I got my energy back. And, I lifted during both of my pregnancies, just lighter and more reps, no straining allowed!!. I did not do pilates or yoga but I hear they are GREAT for keeping you limber and helping with breathing and muscle elasticity. Oh, and find some really good vitamin E based oil and keep your belly moisturized. Take it from the stretch mark queen. My first was 9 pounds 3.5 ounces and just take a really good look at me and you will understand why I am the queen!!!!! BTW, love the ticker!!!!

I am in post game depression (or is it winter depression)... the Packers lost! I live an hour away, so the cold you saw on the game is the cold I have been living in since I got back from WDW. Talk about a huge dose of reality in your face!!!!

I don't remember who posted about cold and asthma... but DD4 has asthma and all weekend she has been wheezing (poor thing).

Tonight is the big night... I am going to hit the TM. Well not seriously hit it, unless I fall off like some people on these boards!!! :confused3

MEL - I HAVE A BABYSITTER FOR MINNIE!!!! My mom verbally committed. So if DH can find a cheap flight, I am in for the Minnie. We would probably fly in Friday and leave Sunday.

Krista - Super excited about the baby. I may just make you a WISH baby quilt (cuz I love doing baby quilts for all my friends). Lemme see if I can find something WISH-y in the next 7 months!!!!!

When do you seasoned vets recommend getting hotel ressies for marathon weekend next year? Is it something that fills up fast?

Congrats on the new baby and baby to be! I have 3 kids and mine are now 10,8 and 5. I'm still tired! Seriously though the 2nd trimester is like the honeymoon period, you lose the sickness/tiredness of the first trimester, and you still aren't huge and uncomfy like you might be the last trimester. Happy and Healthy 9 months to you!

Allyson

Hi everyone :wave2: Can I join you in the WISH racing team? I saw some of you at Pop on Friday night and really wished I had joined you all sooner :guilty: Anyway, a little background on me.

I didn't start running until I was 37. I loved it!! I was even registered for the 2004 WDW 1/2. I was running 6 miles a day and 8 on the weekends. Unfortunately, my knee, which had already been giving me trouble, totally konked on me and I had to bow out of the race :sad1: I still went to WDW to watch but it was very sad for me to watch all the runners and I vowed I would return some day. My knee hurt so badly that I couldn't even walk for exercise for at least 6 months. My lack of mobility (and returning to finish my degree) caused me to put on some weight which is slowly coming back off and will hopefully be gone by next year (or sooner). I really need to have surgery on my knee and hopefully will do that when I gradute in May and have the summer off (at least til WDW and the cruise in August). I've slowly gotten back into walking and I do run some (shh, don't tell Dr.) but not much as it starts to hurt. You know it's hard NOT to run when you're a runner! I did the Safari 5K last week and had intended to walk it but geez, the gun went off and I ended up running it anyway. Oh well, I'm glad I did.

So, I have decided that the weekend was so much fun that I AM going to do the Donald in '09!! :donald: I have a whole year and I know I can do it. I'm even trying to get my DH to do it with me. He doesn't think he can but I told him that if people 20-30 years older than him can can run the Goofy, he can certainly walk the Donald with a year of training. Plus, he walks as fast as I run  I plan to stay at Pop again next year so I hope to get to meet some of you!

I hope you all don't mind me joining you. I start my next semester next Monday and will be quite busy but know that even if I don't post much, I am definitely reading yours! Oh yeah, I already said I'd love some hats but if you do a shirt order, I would most definitely love a couple!! I missed the last order and it would have been great to have a shirt to wear while I was cheering all you guys on!

Wow everyone is chatty these last 2 days. I read everything but don't remember what I read :scared1: must be a sign of old age!! :lmao:

Unfortunately because of the darn filters here at work I can't see that cute baby until I get home. Just wanted to say congratulations on the new addition!!!

As far as training. I went out yesterday. I ended up having to wait a bit before I could go. I wanted to go first thing when I got up but it was chilly and sprinkling (with rain) so I finally ended up getting out and ended up doing 3 miles. It took me a LONG time - 40 minutes total and the wind was really blowing hard on my way back. But without the support of my WISH team I would have called my DH and had him pick me up and just quit!! Then my neice came over and we ended up going out for a half mile run/walk. She is planning on doing the Minnie 5k with me so I am trying to get her trained now. She is a gymnast though and practices 5 days a week and does some running in practice.

Training for the Minnie 15k starts the end of February for me. I am just doing maintaning for now.

I would be interested in a tech WISH shirt - preferably a tank style. Oh and a WISH bracelet sounds cool too.

Jennifer - :welcome:

To all of our new teammates - :welcome:

Wow….everyone has really been chatty. Makes it tough to keep up, but it is sure nice to see so many people being an active part of the team.:thumbsup2

First I want to say a very big you’re welcome to everyone that has been thanking John & I for the backpacks. It was our pleasure to share with our teammates. Everyone is so supportive, encouraging, & motivational. Not to mention everyone that gives of their time to keep up the weekly posts, keep track of events & races, orders wish gear for everyone, organizes meets, etc., etc. It was our way of giving back to the “TEAM”. There is no way John & I would be anyway near where we are at without all of you & I certainly would not have just finished my first full marathon.
WISHERS ROCK!!!

TXAngie – Congratulations to both you & your DH. Sean Michael is adorable!

Krista – Love the baby ticker. It will be fun to watch it move along.

Mel – A lighter tech shirt would be nice. I love the shirts we have now & the tech material they are made of has been fine for me in wicking away the sweat, but a lighter one would be nice for those really hot & humid days. I think we should stick with the lime green. John & I would order a couple.

Welcome to all the newbies. I look forward to getting to know you.

Off to go finish trying to catch up on all the posts, then hopefully I will get my race report done. Also, hopefully tonight I will get up all the photos I took during the half.

I'm at work so I have to make this quick:

Tricia GOOD JOB NOT GIVING UP. That's what it's all about :woohoo: I have decided that I gain more from my stonkers than the good ones (reverse psychology :lmao:
Jennifer :welcome: :welcome: Of course you are welcome. I think it's awesome that you are continuing to do what you can instead of using the injury to just give up. By the way, what are you going to school for?
Allyson We didn't book hotel till November and got awesome FL resident rate. I don't know where you live but even if you don't live in FL they still had regular rates available at that point too because I had checked into those first.
Jen I REALLY hope you guys get to come to MINNIE I felt really bad I did not have more time to talk to you, you were so sweet to come find me and introduce yourself. We will have to plan some fun WISH meets for MINNIE.

OK have to go back to work

angie

Ah so....finally back from WDW and I'm trying to get into things at work. Here's the short version of my Goofy weekend...

- I ran the half marathon with my cousin and her husband and we had a blast! I did see WISHers at the start, but I was in and out of the bathroom line and missed you guys. Finished in 2:41:something and thought I ran the race pretty easy.
- The full marathon was a whole other animal! My feet were aching by mile 12 and the heat and humidity were really getting to me. My two main goals were to have fun and finish upright so with that in mind I wound up walking the entire last half, save for a bit of time in the parks. I didn't notice any WIShers around me, but every once in awhile I caught a glimpse of scoolover. I tried to find WISHers at the start of the full, but didn't see anyone! I kept getting tripped up by the other group wearing lime green shirts.
- Anne, Kristi and all you Scream Teamers...I loved it! Thank you so much! You have no idea how much your encouragement meant!

As for next year...I had a few days where I thought about trying the Goofy again, but what I really want is to be able to really RUN the marathon there. I know I can't reasonably expect that if I do the half the day before. So I think I'm *just* going to go with the full in 2009.

I haven't run since the race, but I'm hoping to get back out there in the next few days. I am still considering running the Frozen A$$ 50 here next month (50km that is). They have a half option as well (25km) that I know I can complete, but I'd like to aim for the 50 if possible. If I'm not quite there I'm not going to push running a huge race like that though.

Real Quick:

Karen My 8 year - Seth old thanks you for the WISH bag, he took that night and we literally fought over it for Marathon day. It is now his backpack for school and wants to know where his WISH shirt is? :lmao:

angie

Yay, Karen is back!!!!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes

OOps, sorry, I forgot John (or is that Space Cadet??? :lmao:

Ok, I guess we're in again...I just registered dh and I for the 2009 Half!

We now realize we actually need to do the "other" training -- i.e. more than the long runs, so we're looking to improve our times. We had so much fun, we want to come back -- and we want to make more WISH events, you guys rock!

Maria

Wow, so much to catch up on!!!

First, Congratulations TXang and Krista! pixiedust: What a great way to start 2008!

Second, welcome to everyone. :welcome: It's great to see everyone so excited and motivated! And how is everyone settling back into their routines? I keep checking for SW Dings to Orlando, and sighing.

I was back at the gym today--boy, was it crowded due to the holiday! I had to wait to get on a TM. What does it say about me that I have one machine that I privately think of as mine?

Okay, just got back from the gym. I decided to take the advice given here and not push myself too hard my first week of training, so I only 2.5 miles on the TM. Now i'm going to do some pilates while my muscles are warm. I already know I won't be able to work out tomorrow because the dentist is giving me valium for my dental work. I'm a big chicken.

It's nice to have teammates to work out "with"!

Now that I've had a chance to finish reading all the posts, I can respond. I had to post first before reading or else I would have lost my nerve.

First, thanks so much for the welcome!!!! I can't wait to meet you guys next year (or before).

TxAng-Congratulations!! He is adorable!

Krista-Congrats to you too! I have to tell you, I slept the whole way through my first pregnancy, kid you not. I was a bank manager and came home from work at four and straight to bed. My DH would wake me up to feed me dinner and then right back to bed I went. I guess I was preparing for the lack of sleep after giving birth :rotfl: Also love your pic of my boy! He sure is a cutie pie (I'm from near Pittsburgh).

Angie-I'm going back to be a middle school teacher (still undecided, I can't decide whether I want science, math, or special education). I graduate with my Associates in Teaching in May (started at our community college because it's cheap and close by since I started when my girls were in elementary school). In the fall, I have to transfer for my last 2 years somewhere; either to UMBC, University of MD College Park, or Towson University.

Allyson-After waiting months (okay, more like years) we just got a Road Runner Sports in our town a couple of weeks ago. On Saturday, I went and had them analyze me. They looked at my arches when I stepped on a mat that displayed on a computer, then how I ran on the treadmill and recommended some shoes for me based on all that. I tried on about 10 pairs and ran around the store in them. Wow, what a difference!! I've used them 2 days now and they feel great! I would highly recommend having someone do this for you if you have somewhere that can. If not, you can still do it on your own by researching some web sites. That's how I bought my last pair (they ended up being discontinued but I had stocked up and rotated them). The salesman said whoever recommended my last pair did a great job (I didn't tell him I did it myself :lmao: )

Jen-I had wanted to buy those Race Ready shorts several months ago but didn't know what size to buy, how they would fit, etc. I was so happy to see them at the Expo and be able to try them on. I love them!!

Okay, I better watch myself. I'm seriously considering the MM 15k in May :scared1: I'm even trying to convince my 16 year old, couch potato, slug of an XBox 360 playing daughter to do it with me. :lmao: She really needs to get off the couch and this would be good motivation. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make any decisions on that until I get into the semester. That week is right before finals week so it will all depend on finals, lesson plans, and papers due.

Jennifer--See the dog in my signature? That's my lab, Hines! :thumbsup2 Good to know we have another Steelers fan here. :)

Krista

WOW! Krista (not Christa) is pregnant! About being tired....I am asking that same question and Mine are 7 & 9. CONGRATS!

Ran a little over 7 today in 1 hour. Like Bree, I am in traing for a Tri in March. Glad for a change of pace. Not sure when I will be doing another marathon. The last one (in December) was too brutal. We will see.:confused3

Krista

Oh, that's cute and what a great way to honor Hines :worship: Your lab's cute too! Yes, once a Steelers fan, always a Steelers fan!

It is SUCH a small world. MY MOM went to Towson State University for secondary education!!! She is a middle school social studies teacher here in FL now, but we lived in Perry Hall, near White Marsh and she finished while I was in high school there.

The reason I asked about school is because I am a almost 34 year old mother of 2 boys who just graduated from USF last May. I started at CC like you then went on to get my engineering degree. I did the MINNIE last year the morning after I walked across the stage and got my diploma, I still get goose bumps thinking about it. I REALLY hope you are able to come.

Also, my mom who has never done anything like this is going to do the MINNIE 5k with me then I will do 15 next day. So maybe you can talk DD into 5k and you and my mom can chat about school :)
