Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Mel: My balaclava is a good and face piece that only leaves my eyes out. It works great in the subzero temps that we have lately. My other piece of advice from the frozen north for anyone who runs in below 15 degrees is Body Glide with sunscreen on your exposed facial skin. And Amy is right, shiny skin on a subzero day spells disaster. I am having to Body Glide my sons shins right now because he HAS to be outside and will not make sure to pull his ski pants down when he is sliding!!

I am up for either safety yellow or lime green. There were some other bright yellow shirts on the half course and I had to look before I lurked up behind someone so maybe the lime is a better choice. Another question is, could be have our screen names on them somehow? This would be really great for newbies! I am thinking about taking mine to my local sports shop to have it embroidered on the cotton ones.

And, HOLY CRAP, I posted yesterday a.m. on page one and what the heck happened yesterday!!!! I got so far behind I am not even going to try and catch up...except to say CONGRATULATIONS to TxAng!! What a cutie.

Okay, so does anyone do the Dallas White Rock Marathon in December??? I have family in Richardson and this looks like a go for me.

TXAng- Congratulations on the new baby. That is wonderful news. Have so much fun.

NuPharm- Stepahnie, thank you so much for voting for my photos. I really appreciate it.

Apparently I went a little too fast during the 5k. My ankle is loudly voicing its objection to running again. Hopefully it will quiet down soon so I can start training for the half marathon in 6 weeks.

TxAng - Congrats on bringing you newest home. I guess that was a good enough excuse not to be in Disney that weekend. ;)

Mel - I think the lime green is fine and would love to have a tech shirt. I also think the design is fine now. (Rembering the pain the last time it was redesigned...)

Helen - Glad you made it back home with your medals. I can imagine the news report if your medals were lost somewhere. :lmao:

After 6 pages in one day there is no way I can get to everyone before work. So welcome to the new members, I hope you can find some encouragement here. Congrats to all those who are starting their training again just take it easy so you don't injure yourselves.

Bill

Hey everybody!
Just a drive by since in the time it took me to scroll through, Lucas has awakened. Seesh! You people have a lot to say :)

Sorry it's taken me sooo long to post but since we've been back all three of us have been sick, Lucas being the worst. Had to take him to the dr. for a nasty cough. They have put him on breathing treatments. Needless to say, I've not gotten a full night's sleep in over a week.

Full marathon day was not what I expected it to be. I have told everyone that it just wasn't a good day to race, but I did finish, I didn't pr, but I finished. But I did exactly what I set out to do which was a full marathon (two in fact) a year after having Lucas.

Thank you Jen for helping me get to the end. You were my angel. I felt so sick on my stomach, if you hadn't come along to get my mind off of it, I might have quit. Sorry I walked off after the finish. I felt horrible, and was a little scared I might wretch, and/or pass out so I met up with my fam, and left. Good choice since I ended up on my hands and knees dry heaving in the parking lot.
Also, who ever had the cold washcloths ( I think it was Heather) I almost started crying when you gave it to me. The twizzlers would have been good too if my stomach could've handled it but the washcloth was magic!

That's all for now (Lucas is crying to get out of his crib). Hopefully I'll have time post more later.

~bree~

W.I.S.H. me luck: today starts my "official" training for my 1st tri :scared:

Oh yeah, and get this: DH was so inspired by all the W.I.S.H. team members that he's considering walking the half next year....cool!

**TxAng** CONGRATULATIONS. I hope Sean is and remains as happy as he looks in the picture. May be we need to look into baby-safe cowbells for next year.

**Mel** At least Coach Bill was smart enough to wear ear covers. I suppose as the head coach, he figured he could still talk and everyone else is suppose to listen to him.

**All New WISHers** Welcome.

**Big Vic** How did the hydration pack work out for the marathon? Also what kind is yours. (I am thinking I may need one once the temps here get above freezing.)

Now Bill, you forgot YAY PATS!! :cool1: :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2: :dance3:

I saw on June 1, there is an Iron Horse half or 10K in Simsbury, CT....:rolleyes1

It's a Camelbak Ambush, and it worked great.

It holds 100 oz. of liquid and has two compartments to hold your "really cool guy stuff."

Wow, this thread moves fast! :drive:

TxAng - congratulations!!!! What a beautiful baby. :goodvibes

bree - I've been sick, too, ever since I got back on Tuesday. Same symptoms. I hope your family is on the way to recovery. Good luck with your tri training. A good friend of mine is doing a tri in Hawaii in April. I guess she figured that if you gotta do all that training you might as well do the event in paradise. :teeth:

Helen - yikes on the toe. I've been really lucky so far - no toe problems with my running...just blisters on other parts of my feet.

Lisa - I did the Dallas Half Marathon last November. It was actually designed as a race for those training for the Whiterock. The half course was good in that it was the best part of the full course - around Whiterock lake. I didn't do the Whiterock marathon but I have several friends that did and they enjoyed it.

Mel - the new tech shirt idea is great. Too bad the women's v-neck is not an option in the lime green color. Thanks for checking this out for us.

For all the new WISHers - :welcome: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

**Lisa** So as not to upset my recovering WISH teammates, I purposely didn't express the obvious. Some of them, without mentioning names (**Krista**, **Steve**, etc.), seem to get a little testy when you talk about the Patriots recent success, forgetting that we life long Pats fans had 30 years of bad. Any way, now that they have made it to 5 conference championship games and 4 Super Bowls in 7 years and are in pursuit of a perfect season this year, rather than understanding the hard work and preparation by the players and coaches to achieve and maintain such consistancy, some are just green (or Black & Frenches' Mustard Yellow) with envy.

As to my first half, I looked at the Iron Horse, but it looks like they enforce their 3 hour time limit. As a walker and starting at ground zero again, I don't think it is a realistic goal. Right now, my plan is to concentrate on starting and maintaining consistant training. I think I am going to shoot for the Greater Hartford Half (October 11) as my first half and as a warm up for the ToT.

**Big Vic** Thanks for the Camelbak info. 100 oz may be enough to get me to he first water stop if its hot and humid.

Bill dh also takes a camelback on his long runs - just dont forget to factor in the weight - Tim's is a smaller version of what Vic posted - more of a fanny pak size... Check the local sporting good stores

Still brutal cold below zero - DD is "under the weather" hope to do an exercise video to get my heart rate up... something is better than nothing!

Hey everybody!! Stephen and I are finally back from WDW--our flight got in at 4:00 yesterday afternoon. It was hard leaving, especially knowing that we won't be back for a year (as opposed to our normal 3 trips a year).   But we have lots to look forward to this year, so hopefully it won't be so bad. :goodvibes

I haven't even read through this week's posts yet, so I am off to do that, just wanted to pop in here and say  before the day got too crazy. I plan on uploading all of my marathon pics I took tonight, so I'll post a thread with them either tonight or tomorrow. I have a lot of really good ones.

I'll be back in a little bit, after I read through the thread!

Krista

Sandy, I may join you in that video. DH just came in to say that he is concerned that the air outside is so cold it will trigger my asthma even going back and forth to the car.... I had planned on walked 3 miles. It's about 4 degrees outside right now. I haven't had an attack in months and I don't take maintenance meds at this point because I'm doing so well...

Hi Everyone,

I'm off to do some power walking around WDW on Wednesday. After my return, I will be updating my tickers to track mileage in training for WDW Marathon 2010. We have picked out a treadmill that we will be purchasing upon our return (Epic View 550).

I'm hoping to enter the local "big race" this summer in the 10K category this year. Next year I will do the local half-marathon, and then the WDW full in 2010.

I am hoping that I don't miss out on the shirt order. I would like one of the sleeveless shirts, but I'm a little confused about what is a "tech" shirt. I thought all the shirts were tech shirts. (My understanding of a tech shirt is that it's synthetic fibres?) Anyway, I want one for running - not a tank top though.

I'm going to buy some good running shoes while we are on vacation. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to buy shoes near WDW? We have a car. I would like to find a place that's friendly, and hopefully not overpriced.

I'm very excited about being on the WISH team!

Carol (my first name is missing from the front page, because I forgot to post it last time)

Hey everybody! Wow, there are alot of pages of posts already!

First, I would get a new shirt, so count me in!

TXAng-Congratulations!! I love the picture!!

And I just wanted to say WELCOME to all the new people!! This is a really great group!!

It is really cold here in NJ today, so no running outside. I will start my new training program tomorrow, as I am going to be training for the NJ Marathon which is in May.

Time to go get some work done on my day off!!

Greetings all -

I have to say I only skimmed but saw a new WISH baby - YAY! A new WISH baby-to-be ticker - YAY! and I had to wonder why anyone would put that really deelish dessert I get in Morocco on your face. But then, isn't this how I ended up being the Queen of YARC in the first place??? :lmao:

I did 20 min on the TM this morning which was the first thing I've done since LAST Saturday, Yeah, I know I know, but cut an old lady some slack. I start training for the Minnie soon enough so I thought it was OK to take a week off.

OK let me do some important things now....

Book the Poly for next January.
Rent a car for the Minnie trip.
See if I have enough money left after last week to register for next year's Half.
Go back and read all this week's posts very carefully.

Holy cow! This thread took off since I last read it. I'm sure I missed something scanning thru it, but I do want to say...

TXAng - CONGRATS! :yay:

I already said DH and I would both be interested in a tech shirt. I agree with most, I like the lime green, but the WISH hat I got is kinda more yellow than lime and I think it worked fine.
I also would like a V neck, but if it's not available I'm cool. :goodvibes

DH and I dropped off the girls at the in-laws yesterday and ran together at a high school track. It was supposed to be an easy run, but for some reason I couldn't stop myself from going faster on that track. Had a good pace, but it was COLD!!! OMG, I'm so not used to running in the cold. Atlanta best heat up soon. It was around 30 and it felt like minus 30. I'm a wimp!

Well I am all caught up, you guys are a talkative bunch!!!

TX Ang--Congrats!!! Sean Michael is adorable!!!! Can't wait to meet him!

Mel--A tech Wish shirt sounds great to me. I only have the cotton one from 2006, so I've never run in any Wish gear. Whatever everyone else decides is a-okay by me. But I definitely think we should stick with the lime green.

Amy--I have a question for you, I'm not sure if you would know, but since you are a trainer and work in a gym, you were my first thought. :) I'd like to start lifting weights again (I stopped when I found out that I was pregnant), but I'm not sure which weights are safe to do and which ones to avoid. I was thinking leg curls were okay, but leg press might be bad. How much weight should I use? Lots of reps at 10 lbs? 20 lbs? I'd ask my doctor, but he's not super active, so probably wouldn't know. If you can help me in any way, I'd appreciate it. Oh, I have some pilates dvd's at home, are they okay to do?

Kristi--Yay! You noticed!!! I was a little apprehensive to put the ticker up already, I am so superstitious! (If there are any Office fans out there, I'm not superstitious, just a little stitious. :) )

Erin and Lynne--Let the smack talk begin!!! :thumbsup2

Bree--It was nice to finally meet you last week! I hope Lucas is feeling better today and you all get some sleep soon! Congrats to you DH for thinking about doing the half!

Jeff--I cannot believe you ran 7 miles a week after your half marathon!! That is amazing!

:welcome: to all the new people!!!! You are going to love the Wish team! I know we might seem a little intimating since we all know each other so well and just talk and talk, but please just jump right in so we can get to know you too and we'll talk and talk to you. :)

I better get off and get to work. I've been gone for the past week and a half, so I have a little bit to catch up on. I'm going to try to do 3 miles tonight on the TM, but I'm still super tired, so I don't know if that's going to happen yet. When does the tiredness go away???

Krista

When does the tiredness go away???

Krista-From what I understand, sometime after they all graduate from college, move out of the house, have careers and you are relatively certain that they can live on their own without ending up in jail. After that, you just worry, but you're not as tired because you're used to it by then.
