Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

I didn't get on the TM last night. It took me 1 1/2 hours to get home. They shut down the highway, while I was on it, because of a pile up. So we dwaddled our way home at a snails pace. If the weather would have been better I could have ran home faster. I know were weren't 26.2 miles from home, so that would be a piece of cake right!! Did I mention our temps haven't gone above zero this week????

Dave - I hope I did it right, I rated the pictures. I didn't see a place that said Vote. Let me know if I need to do something else.

Krista - My hair changed too! My color is now more like it was when I was a kid. And some people get curlier hair. Being PG really does weird things to your body!!!!
Thanks Jen- Yup, the rating is what they're going for. Thanks! They're selecting the top 5 in each category, and then there will be a final rating to get a winner for each category.

As far as the pregnancy and hair thingy goes - it's all hormones. Hair curly-ness is partly controlled by hormones. Estrogen levels change chemical bonds that makes the hair curly. One of the things I used to teach in my endocrinology course.

Sorry about the Packers Jen. I really wanted them in the Super Bowl. Stay warm up there.

Vic--Too true!!!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Jen--I've heard that your hair can change when you're pregnant. All 3 of my sisters who have kids all had their hair darken a lot when they were pregnant. Good thing highlights are safe during pregnancy! I have an appointment next week. :)

Hi everyone,

Hoping to join you all as I train for a 5k at Knott's Berry Farm in April and then the Disneyland 1/2.

I am on my 2nd week of Marathoning for Mortals. I have a question about shoes. I went on Saturday to a running store and bought a pair of Asics. They had me run on the treadmill before bringing out the shoes, but not when I was trying them on. The pair I bought felt great in the store, but now I notice my left heel moves around alot. Not up and down but side to side. My problem is that my left foot is about a 1/2 size smaller than my right. So if I get a shoe sized so that my right toe has room, I don't see how I can get one that won't be loose on my left foot. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions? I thought maybe I would try thicker socks. I can take the shoes back, but I thought I would see if there is anything else to try.

Thanks!

I have the same problem with one foot 1/2 size larger than the other. I'll let the pros really answer your question, but thicker socks, wearing two pairs of socks, tying the shoes a different way are some ways to compensate...we'll get cha fixed up!! And the silly store should have had you on the treadmill with the shoes...siiigghhhh...

Thanks!! I thought so too, just a little late:headache:

Hi All! I'm jumping in with both feet! I just posted on the Minnie Weekend thread - I'll be doing the 15K. I signed up for that after participating in this years Marathon (I got to mile 18 :cheer2: ). DH did the 1/2, and we had a blast the entire weekend! I met a few of you while we were there, and did admit that I was a lurker!
So now, here I am ready to start training for the Minnie, and ultimately the 1/2 in '09 (which DH & I are both signed up for).

Gonna go back and read the rest of the thread now! Thanks!!!

:welcome: Tink06 & Michelle :welcome:

Tink06 - Can't wait to meet you in May :)

Michelle - Although I don't have any advice on that subject you have come to the right place someone will help, as they already have :)

angie

Michelle - Have you tried lock lacing? Here's how: http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/locklacing.htm Teh TM was more so they could figure out how your legs/feet move. If oyu could not feel tehm runnig nin teh store, it probably wouldn't have mattered. Try teh lace technique if you want, but you should be able to take them back. If your feet really are that different, I can't imagine that any brand will do better than another. Maybe teh people at teh runnign store will have more advice. :confused3

Welcome Tink06 and Michelle and others that I have missed! Such a busy tiem on teh WISH boards. I may have to take my pap top to WDW to keep up form now on. ;)

Maherae - dont you have problems with wearing 2 pair of socks and blisters (extra rubbing?)

Is there a way to add a heel insert? (I dont have this problem, I have different problems tho!!) Can you ask at the running store? Maybe your receipt has a phone number you can call and ask them about it?

good luck!!

:welcome: Tink and Michelle :welcome: Lurkers and Newbies!!!

Sandy,
Maherae - dont you have problems with wearing 2 pair of socks and blisters (extra rubbing?)
Nope. Haven't had that happen to me. I wear a pair of synthetic thicker socks with the WISH socks, which are thin, over them. But, remember, I'm a 14:30 pace person, maybe a faster person would have a problem. :goodvibes

So wearing the thicker socks doesn't make the shoe too tight on your larger foot?

Kristi--   I could never hate you!!! I have already gained 5lbs (all in one certain region  ) and some of my clothes are starting to get tight. I think I'm going to have to invest in some clothes in the next few weeks. I still can't figure out how Christa got back in her normal clothes a week after her baby was born. I'm hoping I'll get that lucky!!

Krista

That was with my 1st! I only gained 20 something lbs. I was also throwing up the whole pregnancy....most don't do that, but it was not pretty! Try running out of a counseling session and not making it to the bathroom! So I actually lost several pounds b/4 I started gaining....Now with my 2nd.....again, the ROCKY ROAD ICECREAM DIET!

Swam a mile today in 47 min...ooooo I have lost the swimming fitness! O so slow! Must get faster!

As usual, the activity around here is like the start of a race. Everyone's moving so fast, it's hard for me to keep up! :lmao:

First, a little update. DH and I are still undecided as to our next races (before Disney), as our schedule & travel budget are up in the air. The transition to full-on running is exciting me, although I'm still not sure my speed qualifies as running. I also took a Restorative Yoga class last night, for variety, but it wasn't what I'd hoped for. I've not practiced for a while and the other beginning courses don't fit my schedule, so I'm looking for other options. Right now, I'm eyeing a Tai Chi course and a spinning class, for different reasons; anyone have experience with either of these?

Hey everyone :wave2:
I just joined the W.I.S.H team last week

I have Marathoning for Mortals waiting to be picked up at the bookstore tomorrow, I'm so excited to start reading it. I've also been reading the Couch to 5k plan.

Welcome!! MfM was my bible training last year for what turned out to be a WR, and will likely be for next year too. I'm on the C25K right now to transition to running full-time. I like them both!!!

Also welcome to Marsuzcoz, Michelle, Tink06, and anyone I may have missed in the thread's momentum. Michelle, I'm also trying to solve the blister problem, so thanks for posting! :thumbsup2 And thank you to Carrie for the locklacing site; I'm going to try it in addition to the Maherae's extra socks suggestion.

GoofyinOhio--great news on the 7 miler & how you felt about it! :goodvibes I'm not at your level, but I too have felt great about all my WRs. Strange, isn't it?

Shan: Excellent work. :woohoo: One day I hope my fast-pace will match your moderate one! ;)

Dave, I visited and voted. I love the silly ones, especially, although the WISH ones made me smile too.

Congratulations Bill on your 500th post! Right back at you with the compliments. You've certainly inspired me on this thread and others, and I look forward to meeting you. (I especially look forward to meeting you if the Steelers have a better year next season.)

Jen, I'm so sorry about your extended commute. The stress of being on a closed highway was bad enough, but to add to it the frustration of having your plans change...

One last thought--I'm loving all the other things I learn about on these threads. I now know more about pregnancy, and it makes a marathon seem easy!

Awww Bill! Can't wait to see you again in January '09!

Ok, back on the bandwagon training is officially derailed. I do have strep! Ok, so how can someone who NEVER had strep in 35 years get it twice in 6 months? Hmmmm.....maybe a certain rugrat! I'll bet anything my little booger is a carrier for strep like my niece Molly was (was because she finally had her tonsils and adnoids (?) removed). He certainly is not getting strep. Growing up, my sister used to get strep really bad. I never once got it. And my mom is a lab tech - she was always taking throat cultures on us at home. :rotfl2: Of course, as a teen, I wasn't hugging & kissing my sister, like I am Zachary! :rotfl:

Krista - see what these little boogers put us through?! :rotfl:
Wait a minute. I should thank him. I get to stay home in bed tomorrow! ;)

14 pages in 3 days?!? With all the new members, I'm still a fan of switching to daily threads instead of weekly (got voted down a while back)... Makes it easier for me to figure out where I left off, but that's because I miss a couple days at a time and get lost 10 pages back... ;) I'm also biased because that's the way they do it on a tri forum that I frequent, they just do a thread title with the date like 1/22/08, and everyone posts their daily exercise totals. Did a 3 miler first run post marathon on Thur, 30 min on the bike trainer Thur and Fri, a 7 miler on Sunday to make up for missing the 9 miler race on Sat, and am headed out for my "back to normal" 4 miler mid week short run tonight.

Got lots of races on upcoming weekends, but this weekend is a rare empty one!

Matt, I think if we have this many people, it might be a good idea to switch to the daily format....

No workout for me today--I did brave my trip to the dentist and had my cracked molar repaired. Tomorrow I'll hit the gym!
