WK of Jan 18 - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Welcome back, Jodi! It's good to see you again!

ImMarcik--Your coach sounds like a keeper! No wonder you want him to be your boyfriend. ;) And if you think the xt training talk is bad, just wait until we are all in taper mode. It gets a little crazy around here, I don't know how none of us have been banned. :thumbsup2

TX Ang--I can't believe Sean is already a year old!! Did he love his birthday cake? Carter was 6 months yesterday. :faint:

Shan--Can you maybe promise your girls a BBB make-over if they agree to go to WDW marathon weekend instead of NYE? Or maybe show them the thread on the Theme Parks board about the NYE lines. I can't believe Soarin' was a 5 hour wait and it took people 3+ hours to get out of the parking lots!

Pat--The aquatic workout sounds like fun! Great job getting out there. I'm not so good at xt either, I was really good at going to the gym before Carter was born. Now I just don't have the time.

Well, I have don't have any training to report, I have been sick for the past 2 days. I'm not really sure what it was, I was very nauseous on Wednesday and Thursday and barely ate anything both days. I didn't think it would be wise to run on an empty tank. But today I woke up feeling great and hungry! I think I may do a mini-Goofy this weekend and next weekend--maybe 4/7 this weekend and 6/9 next weekend, just to see how it feels to run mileage back to back. I don't think I have the luxury of waiting until summer to sign up for Goofy. I don't know if I will have the luxury of waiting until next weekend!

Thanks for all the support!

Mel-- awesome quotes!

Judy-- I forgot how wonderful DIS smileys are. (how in the world do you spell smiley plural-- no known rules for that conversion)

bras-- Champion.com sells some great ones and they rate them by "motion control" according to cup sizes. Last Fall they had a sale; all bras for $19.95. It would be worth getting on their mailing list and checking them out.

TGIF!:cheer2:

I wish Krista. I don't like to pull them out of school and they'd only be back a few days from winter break. Plus, we'd have to take someone else along to watch them which means a bigger room and more DVC points!

NYE crowds don't scare them, we've been to WDW three times for NYE. They're pretty tough. :lmao:

I survived six miles today! It is hard to believe I ran a half a couple weeks ago. It was a killer today! The weather was hotter than I thought it would be, too. I definitely got over heated. It is just hard to believe how warm it is today when just a few days ago it was freezing!

ImMarcik – I PM’d you.

Pat – I’ve always wanted to try one of those aqua fitness classes. Was it fun?

Jodi – Welcome back! :)

Krista – Sean mostly liked playing with the cake, but he did take a few bites of it. Wow, I can’t believe Carter’s already 6 months old! How are y’all doing these days? Sorry to hear you’ve been sick. That’s no fun at all!

Shan – WTG on the 6 miles! It’s been warm here, too, but still cool enough to be comfortable for running. And NYE crowds scare me! I’m impressed that y’all have braved them for several years and lived to tell the tale. :)

Me - I got my run in this morning, and the weather was gorgeous. It was very good. :goodvibes

I'm so jealous of you guys and your warm weather. I just can't bring myself to run - it has been so cold and dreary here. I so do not belong in the north! :lmao: Seriously, I'm happy for you that you have nice, wamr weather to run in. :goodvibes

Christa: :wave2: right back at you! Great to see you on the weekly thread!

Mel: Inviting locker room talk? :crazy2: Okay, if you insist... :listen: :rotfl2:

Ang: A 3-part bra setup? Man, am I glad I'm built economy-sized. Loved the picture of DS (and the term smash cake--new for me!)

Jen: So sorry to hear how cold it is out your way! The description made my paws hurt.

Kira: Good to hear from you again. I think a tattoo makes perfect sense, marking your history on your body. (And I can see you as a rocker mama.) I hope you can get back to running soon--know it helps me in so many ways--and believe the planning is part of the fun. You've got a lot of great races listed! I like the idea of doing the VA 1/2-Philly Distance combo. A good combination, if the timing works out. And we're seeing you next January regardless, right? Take care of yourself! :flower3:

Megan: Hershey has a campground? Now that sounds like a fun trip!

SAHD: That's so cool that you have such a long daily-running streak going. Sort of like brushing one's teeth, I suppose. I can see how you'd really have to be attuned to your body to make it work--and that's what's so appealing about the idea. Yay for getting to do an inaugural race at UIUC, especially because it has all these other memories for you. I'm somewhat familiar with the area, and think it'll be a beautiful run.

Zalansky: 34 degrees in Florida IS colder. Colder than it was today in Pgh. And it all depends on what you're acclimated to. (I'm a big weather wimp, who likes to think of going to the gym and running on a TM as "getting her money's worth" out of the gym membership!) Whatever keeps you moving forward on a cold day!

Shan: For the past two years, DOOD and I have been at the marathon from the Friday or Saturday before until the Monday afterwards. We have had to, because of university calendars. It's totally do-able, so long as you remember to forgo tour-commando style throughout the week, take rest breaks, and go a little easy on the day before your race. Congratulations on your six-miler, btw.

Marcia: Good to see you here! Keep coming back and posting! :cheer2: Don't let Jeff have all the fun! ;)

ImMarciK: Your coach/BF--who I'm not nicknaming Eye Candy (for my own amusement)--is pretty cool to get you your own copy of RW. Very supportive, and that means you'll be signing up for some TX races in no time. Hope you and Ang can get together for a couple!

Kristi: If you and Chad get another date afternoon, we'll expect you to share the lurid tales so that we forget about the Y! :rotfl2: Cowbells, I gotta have more cowbells!

Pat: Aqua-fitness! How cool is that? And yay for getting back to the TM! :cool1:

Jodi: Welcome back! :welcome: Glad to see you return, and am sorry that things have been rough for you. Hopefully 2009 will be better--we're here to commiserate with you--and congratulations for signing up for the Disney Half!

Chris: I'm going Goofy and--if DH sends in the apps--probably Dopey. He's looking for a little I*cough* challenge and I'm just looking for the bling. And WISH company on the course, of course!

Krista: I'm so sorry to feel you've been feeling ill. It makes your quest to do a mini-Goofy these upcoming weekends all the more impressive. You know that you should just sign up for the event, though. I mean, you're testing out the training in January 2009! :goofy:

Sunny: Thanks for the tip on Champion.com. Those are great prices!

Julie: Ah, but just think about how your cold, dreary weather mean you have to take trips to Disney as part of your mental health! :goodvibes (That's how I used to justify it, anyway!)

As for me: XT today, a light session. Remembering why I dislike circuit training rooms. Apparently some people think the mats on the floor are for naps. (I'm a big fan of naps, but sheesh!)

Dee,

Yup! Hershey Highmeadow Campground. Has a shuttle to the park and Sweet Start (EMH) too! We have a "secret" site that we book every year. We won't stay unless that site is available.

AFM - I haven't been running that much this week, but I woke up sick on Wednesday and am slowly getting better. I plan on running tomorrow though. 6 miles! That will be my longest ever/yet!

Happy Friday Weekly Wishers!!

I managed to talk myself back onto my bicycle today for only the 3rd time since my big bike wreck back in October. A very leisurely (translate: slow) 22 1/2 miles in 1:20.

I was going to do a brick & go running, but (in my infinite wisdom & gross lack of motor skills) stepped on a soldering iron a few days ago (do NOT ask.....) and have a big burn on the arch of my left foot. Probably back running on Monday.

Have a great weekend!!!

Hey everyone... just checking in.

Debra: Thanks!! I got the mail today!

I don't see a race report thread for this weekend - maybe because I am the only one?

I went to the EXPO today to get mystuff.:beach:

Got lots more "free" goodies at this than I did at WDW. Shirt is nice and white with Orange Details and also got a hat.
Got pull out banners that you can write on both sides.

Overall was nice, just a bit hard to navigate the traffic in downtown Miami Beach, I'm use to it but most out of towners might get frustrated.
The Disney Sports people were there and still no look at what the Princess Half Medal will look like. She told me it would "look like a tiara with some rhinestones on it." I telling her that I was a bit disappointed that the Coast to Coast medal last year didn't have "Inaugual" written on it and that the Princess should. She said, "you know I wonder." Then she got on the phone and later didn't have an answer for me.

Have a great evening. Hope you enjoyed the photos.

Tracy

Finally Friday. Woo Hoo!

Debra - Nice on the Goofy! I see you've done the Challenge before. I'm avoiding the Dopey myself for now. Might cheer for the family instead.

Tracy - Nice Pictures and Goody Bag. Good Luck this weekend in the race. Love the bling.

Just got 5 miles in outside. It was decent out, but the temp just kept dropping on me. Still was good.

:wave2:

Those pictures of the ING Miami expo were great Tracy. Is that a reusable Publix bag I see? I love using mine (but I bought mine) That's alot of stuff they gave you!! Good luck on Sunday (it is sunday right?)

Have fun this weekend Tracy! :cheer2:

Debra, that is really good to know about pulling off that short of a trip. Now to talk DH into it... :scratchin

How many of you did a run/walk program for the full? I think I would need to do something like this for my knee to hold up. It starting bothering me at mile nine this time, the half before around mile eleven. :confused3

Shan - I did my own version of run/walk. I ran 8 miles without stopping (a first for me - before that the furthest was 6 miles in my 1/2) and then I ran and then I walked. After the halfway point I had to walk alot more than run but I got a little bit of running in there every now and then. So I guess I am not the best example. For your knee I would probably go more with a structured run/walk at intervals that way you don't over do it.

Ya, for my first half when my knee gave out near the end I started walking and then never could get running again. It was like my leg totally locked up. I forced myself at the very end and was in pain for days.

This time I ran most of the way, but had to stop a couple times to walk cause of my knee. I was afraid it would lock up on me again, but I actually managed to pick up the pace the last mile cause I knew I was close to beating my first half's time.

So who knows? I'd be worried that if I ran as far as I could, then switched to walking it might lock up like the first time and that wouldn't be good if I had like 13 more miles to go! So maybe I'm thinking if I start off doing the intervals right off the bat I wouldn't have this problem?

Jumping in to say hi. I'll have to catch up on the thread later, if I can. Just got back from Phoenix tonight. The RnR 1/2 was good. My time was a little slower than I would have liked, but considering I didn't put in consistent training time, I have to be happy with a 3:23:57.

I left the finish area immediately after getting my medal so I could head to the NFC Championship game. Was bummed my Eagles lost. CAn't have a horrible 1st half and expect to win, although they came close.

The race itself was pretty flat. Between the 1/2 and full they had over 40,000 participants. I was in corral 20 and it took 40 minutes just to get to the start line. :crowded:

The only thing I didn't like was the water stations were spaced every 2 miles apart, instead of every mile. Towards the end I was looking for some extra liquids. I know why they say it's a "dry heat" in AZ. I was about 5-6 miles in and noticed I wasn't sweating. Yet, when I wiped my forehead I could feel the salt. I tried to drink water at every aid station and I carried Gatorade and Cliff shot blocks with me.

When I got home there was an e-mail apologizing to those 1/2 marathoners who didn't get medals because they ran out. It seems many who had signed up for the full switched to the half so they could get done and then watch the football game. That stinks for those who didn't get their medal on race day. I'd have been mad. The e-mail said they'd get the medal in 4-6 weeks.

All in all I had a good trip. Got to sightsee around AZ. Won't go back their next year, though, because I'll be back at WDW for Goofy 2010! :goodvibes

Terri

Hey everybody,
Just wanted to drop in and see how everyone is doing! I don't have time to catch up with everyone as I am getting ready to head out to an all day scrapbooking event! I started working on my Goofy album last night, and it was so much fun looking at all the pictures and reliving the marathon weekend!! I wish I was back there!!

Tracy--Great pics from the expo! Can you send some of that nice weather up here, I can't take the cold anymore!!! Good Luck this weekend!

Shan--I started off the full doing a run/walk interval. I was running for 3 min/walk for 2 min. When training, all my training runs were done at this interval and I felt great. For some crazy reason, about 9 miles into the full, I decided to just run. I ended up with a PR, so I guess it was worth it. Anyhow, I really liked doing the run/walk from the start, it saved my legs a bit, and since I walk at a pretty fast pace, my mile times were not that much slower than if I was just running. Good Luck with the knee pain.

Terri-Great job in Phoenix...sounds like a fun weekend all around! Run a half marathon and then head to the NFC Championship!! That sounds like my kind of weekend, although I would have prefered to see the Giants in that game!

Sorry I don't have time to catch up with everyone else, but I will check in tomorrow. Have a great weekend!

Tricia: Yes it is a Free Publix tote I got when I spun the "wheel", It's a bit bigger than the polyester green bag from last year. It has reflective striping on it and it seems like it is made out of the same material as the reusable Publix totes that you buy for groceries. No zipper on the outside.

Thanks everyone!!!

I just got done laceing my orange shoe laces. (For a donation to the ING Run for Something Better, you get orange shoelaces to where. They are the "no-slip" kind like New Balance. The money goes to help promote youth running and fitness education programs in schools!!)

Tracy

Jeff: Thanks!! I got your message.

Hi everyone!

I just registered for the Gasparilla 5k here in Tampa on Feb. 28th. :cheer2: I figured I need to keep doing races to keep me motivated until next January and also to push me towards better goals with my running. Which is coming along ever so slowly. I now see why so many people have dubbed the treadmill, the dreadmill. I need to get outside and try it.

Also went and was able to get Champion running bras today at Sports Authority - buy one get one free. So thanks again to the ladies who offered up that suggestion!

deekaypee - I love your posts! Do people really nap on the circuit mats at your gym, for reals? :lmao:
