Wk of Jan 15--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Lisa - Oh my nerve! That schedule is heinous!! Home schooling, too? YOU are amazing, regardless of how many marathons & such that you run. Tough, tough, schedule. I was looking at the picture of the brace you posted, think that'd help w/ my runner's knee thing? Did it stay in place the entire run? I've tried to run w/ those things you pull over your knee w/ the hole in the front & the dang thing was around my shin after mile one (& these are NOT thin legs I'm running with).

Question about a DR appt. for my knees - will they actually x-ray my knees @ any point...should they? Or are they just going to tell me that the cartilage under my knee cap is wearing thin (duh). What can I hope to achieve by seeing a Dr. about this problem?

Cam - So glad Howard is doing better! Are they going to blast that thing again?? I need to lose 10-15 lbs (take some stress off of these knees), would it be ok if I PM you about Weight Watchers? Where do I find the points system? Is there a book I could check out from the library, or is the program hard to get hold of if you don't pay lots 'o $? I can't believe you lost that much weight!

Sunny - I can't believe how much you lost on WW, either. This program must really work!

You TGs are insane!

Melissa - 50k runs? Is everyone in AL insane??

(Carrie -- that picture brings back so many happy memories!), and I got choked up all over again. :grouphug: I cannot tell you guys how much you all mean to me.

Ditto!!!!!!

Carrie, that picture is worth a gazillion dollars to me :goodvibes I really think I might have walked the rest of the way if it wasn't for that scene right there.

I already asked Carrie if I could steal her race picts to add to my race report. I plan to update my report since more things have come to mind. I also want to add two things in mine that Carrie's report sparked my memory about: 1) The switchback (out and back) and 2) the red carpet. Hope you don't mind Carrie! I'd love to add this WISHers on Boardwalk pic, too.

Carrie-- I'm so glad you had your camera!

Sunny

No problem Sunny!
I love taking pics. I had to take lots though, as I bought a little camera with a big card to take pics and I even practiced in training. Would have thought I'd done a better job, but I was kind of excited.

Isn't it funny what we forget until we read someone else's report?

THanks, Carrie!

I've put my updated race report in my siggie link, but I'm not going to bother updating the original post on the board.

I'll add more photos if they should appear ;)

Thanks, Jodi! He is home now, taking painkillers and hoping this all "passes" very quickly. He is really excited about the job and I know he is going to be so glad to have this health situation resolved quickly so he will be at 100% for a newly demanding schedule of work and training.

And, I would LOVE to help with WW questions! I think the program is amazing. I know people sell the materials on ebay all the time, but it may be worthwhile for you to go to one meeting to have the program explained to you and to get all the beginning materials and the code to access the WW website. With the support of your buddies here, you might find everything you need without making time for the meetings.

Thanks to everyone who sent along their congratulations to Howard on the job. With our DD starting college this fall, it is a welcome development!

Judy -- glad to hear you guys weren't without power. It was great to hear your voice, even just on voicemail!

Here's a pic of Carrie taking the pic she just posted :) :

Tammy...Carrie's exactly right. I trained with the MFM W/R the half (Heather, is that how you trained?) It starts with W4/R1, then works you up to W3/R2. I have to admit, I still struggle a bit with the 2 min running periods, but I'd like to try to train to R/W the half for next year.

Cam :grouphug: you're not sappy at all. Glad to hear Howard's healing well. Has your DD decided where she's going to college?

Judy...your farm sounds wonderful! Care to post pictures? DD13 would love to see your horses :flower: .

:cheer2: :cheer2: for all our triathletes.

:wizard: for everyone's upper respiratory problems.

I'm back on the W/R training plan, preparing for the Sarasota half. 3.2 miles last night (W3/R2) at a 14 min pace! Tried out the new shoes...ASICS Gel Nimbus...unfortunately, they're blue, not purple :guilty:

For those of you R/W or W/R how do you keep track of your intervals? Do you set a timer on your watch?
Thanks,
Maggie

Maggie-- when I do intervals, I just wear a watch and watch that-- I actually find that after awhile I can guage when it is time to switch (changing from walking to running and back actually mixes the workout up a bit and makes it more interesting!)

Well.....how can I say no to a special request like that??? :goodvibes I just don't want to gum up the Events thread with too many OT pics....

This is my barn actually last year. It has since been stained and painted and looks much nicer...Although the fence still needs to be done. (Notice the crazy deer in the paddock. :teeth: )

OK Mel, gonna' steal that one! That is cool!

Ummm Maggie, have we failed to introduce you to our friend the Garmin? Bad us. amny of us have them and it does intervals for us. Hoever, I have a little timex that will do intervals too. Just not pace and laps and virtual partners adn....

Morning all - yeh Cam with the full.....well I definitely did run the marathon fast enough as I seem to be the only person alive not sick - even Tim is off work with it!!!! I think it was due to taking roughly 6 vitamin supplements a day post race (I'm not joking between the ginseng, the antioxidants, the multivit, the flax oil I'm suprised I don't rattle - at least the Airborne was liquid!).

The bad news is that it's 99.9% certain that I can't do 2007 - the running part of my brain wants to,the sensible part says no because we won't enjoy the rest of the trip as much so soon - and when you have to do a 24 hour journey to get there you kind of need to enjoy the rest of the trip. Never mind, I did tell at least four people in my running club that I was doing Goofy 2008 so.......

Not much else to report here, I did my first run of 3 miles Wednesday night - it was vile, it was sooooo hot and my legs felt like lead. I'll probably go out for an hour tomorrow and see what happens - got a half a month today (and it's the hideous hot and hilly one) so I've got to get back out there. And I've got to get to the gym - I lost all muscle tone last year and I really would like some of it back. Helen

Oh Carrie, those are great! Thanks for sharing! :flower:

Judy

I am SO sad that we missed the breakfast!! I completely forgot all about it until about 10:00 on Monday morning. Stephen and I were at the BWV and from our balcony we could see the Boardwalk Bakery. I walked out onto the balcony and I saw a green sign and I remembered. I guess there's always next year!

I hope everyone is feeling better today, it sounds like we all have the same thing!! Better 2 weeks after rather than the week before.

Honeibee (I know your real name is Judy, but Honeibee is just too cute :cutie: )--Cool pictures!! You are a farm girl!

Cam--It's okay to be a sap, you earned it!! I was so glad that there weren't any pictures of me crying during the half! The people around me probably thought "what is WRONG with that girl!!". :rotfl:

Maggie--Check out "Marathons for Mortals" by John Bingham. It is a WONDERFUL book for beginners. I ran the half doing r4/w1, but I started training with the walk/run. The increase between walking and running is gradual and I didn't have any problems. Good luck finding a program you like, there are tons of programs and what works for someone else, might not work for you.

Happy training everyone! Maybe I'll stop being lazy and do something productive tonight. :p

Krista - I prefer to think of myself as a "stable" girl. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Honeibee's Beginners Question Of The Day: What is a "negative split"? Does that mean you beat your estimated split times? You got there before you had to?

Judy

Judy - It's great to see another horse lover in the bunch. I have 2 very spoiled ones at home myself. I can't wait for spring to begin riding again!

Cam - It's great that your hubbie is home and recovering :grouphug:

Sunny - I hope your feeling better today!!!!

Judy - LOVE the pics! neg splits! Hey I did those on the WDW marathon! That means I ran the last 13.1 faster than the first 13.1. :teeth:

Oh...I also ment to say...Someone was asking if everyone in Melissa's state was crazy for running a 50k. That is 31 miles. If you ran the marathon, you did a 42k. :cool1: Helen, correct me if I am wrong on the k to miles.

Also LOVE all the pics everyone is posting!
