Wk of Jan 14--WISH Walking/Running Club

Just checking in. I see nothing has changed, it is still impossible to keep up with all of you! :rotfl:

Maggie- I totally agree. I read 11 pages of this thread last night and fell asleep before I could post anything. Of course I remember you. You were one of the regulars back when I joined last year. It's so great to see you back! I'm trying to get reacquainted here myself. I'm sorry to hear about your hip. But know that you are already way ahead of where I've ended up. We'll make it to '08 together girl!!!

Darcy- Good luck with your Master's Program!! Btw, I love your choice of screenname and dd's name. I am completely obsessed with Belle and named my dd Kayla too!

Susie- Great to hear that you did fine with the walk 3/run 1. W3/R2 is probably going to be my post preggie goal, but I was worried of what would happen if I couldn't stick to it. Thanks I feel much better!

Melissa- did you say 50k??? As in five zero!!! Holy cow...

Jen- I'm so scared of someone IRL asking me about my WISH bracelet and then having to explain that I am part of an online racing team. Just can't imagine what they'd be thinking...

Cam- Love the 26.2 sticker idea. I have been eyeing one that says WDW but I never thought about getting the 13.1 one for the other side. Hmm... Talk about motivation. Congrats on getting to paste yours on.

Sunny- Do you know you scare me with all your great ideas!? I'm amazed. But I think the bibs are a really good idea. I'm still on the fence about wearing the WISH shirt since the neckline is so dang uncomfortable for me so the bib would be a great option to have.

Okay, I have to ask about all this pig craziness. What makes it so much fun if the course is full of hills?? Usually, hills means not so fun. I'm :confused3 .

Night everyone and I'll check in tomorrow after the thread has reached 500 posts! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

P.S. I'm going to WDW on Saturday!!! Oh Boy!! :yay: Oh Boy!!! :yay: Oh Boy!!! :yay:

Kind of makes you wonder... Should we be switching to daily threads now that the group continues to grow? Reset a new thread every midnight EST or something? I have trouble remembering what page I've read up to when we get above 10, would be easier if I just remember what day/time I read last.

Morning team!

Supposed to run 5 miles today, but my foot is still a little sore. Instead of pounding the TM, I think I'm going to try a class at the gym called "Gliding Harmony". Lots of stretching, yoga, and pilates. Well, gotta go! Have a great day all!

I think if we give it some time, things will calm down again. Everyone's still coming down from the weekend and excited about signing up for next year.

I don't know of any way for automated thread posting. I would imagine the board developers wouldn't allow it. I think we'd be in danger of spammers and trolls just setting random threads to post and crash the boards.

I'll do my part by posting less for the next few weeks ;) . I have to recertify and will be studying for my exam until Feb 7.

Good Morning,

My hour of yoga class was great. I then walked 2 miles while dd16 ran circles around! :) She thinks she was irritating me, but honestly I was just to happy that she came to "hang out with me".

Anyway, when I walk slow steady I average about a 16 and half minute mile. Last night after yoga, I thought I would push it to see how fast I could go. I ended up taking 2 minutes off my mile. But, my hip this am is calling me "dummy"! So I guess back to slow and steady!:rotfl2:

I see there is a thread for WISH shirts. Those of you who bought the wicking shirt wear them for other event other than WDW? I think I would. I have a vision of WISHers sitings at events all over the world. Gosh knows we would be seen easily!:thumbsup2

Dena - Thanks! I think I will take you up on that!! Congrats on your WDW trip. I am ready to head back, and I just got back with the kiddos on 1/5.

I am hoping to get to the track tonight and walk 2 more miles. It is way to cold for me outside.
Maggie:surfweb:

I agree with Mel, things will slow down soon.

Does anyone have any input into finding other races? I am leaning towards not doing the Minnie this year. :sad1: So, I was thinking of doing the Big Lake Half Marathon in May instead, to keep my behind in gear. Well, they close the course at 3 hours - which is hopefully my finishing time. I looked at results on coolrunning.com for alot of other New England races, and it's always less than 10 people that finish a half over 3 hours! :scared1: I guess I am used to walker-friendly races like WDW.

I guess I am just hesitant since I did a local 5k in November & felt really dumb being one of the last finishers. And that was my best 5k time ever!

The Hawaii Half has a 4 hour limit - but we are tentatively planning that for 2009. :woohoo:

Good morning everyone!!!! We've almost made it to the weekend. It's going to feel so weird to actually sleep in and not get up at the break of dawn to run for 2 or 3 hours. I'm not going to know what to do with myself. ;) Oh, I know what I can do: TAKE DOWN THE CHRISTMAS TREES!!!!!!

Dena--The Flying Pig course is wonderful because of the amazing crowd support along the way. Not only are the streets packed with people supporting their runners, but also there are people who live there or people who work downtown who sit on the street corners or hang out their windows to yell and cheer for you, some of them hand out candy or pretzels. The mile markers are fun too because there is a live band at every one and they have a competition after the marathon where you vote for the best mile entertainment, so they are working really hard to win your vote. The course is hilly (actually there is only one huge hill that starts at mile 6.5 and crests around mile 9 and then comes back down at mile 10-11.5ish), but the views of downtown Cincinnati are gorgeous. And if anyone is interested ~cough Christa cough~, the Pig is a Boston marathon qualifier, and only about 10,000 people run it, so it's not nearly congested as the Disney marathon.

Mel--Good luck on your exam!!! We'll forgive you for putting your career before us. But just this once. ;)

Cam--I am very jealous of your picture with John Bingham!!

Howard--You take excellent pictures. :dance3:

Colleen--I will be so jealous if you run the Marine Corp marathon, that's on my list of must do's.

Magslite, Good for you in getting those steps in!! Keep it up! :thumbsup2
Dena, Have a GREAT time at the World! Think about running/walking through that castle next year!
nucpharm29, You are doing exactly right with being careful with that foot. Let us know how "Gliding Harmony" goes! It sound really interesting.::yes::
thndrmatt, You and DW have a good time with those two bridges!!;)
Mel, Best wishes on your recert! :cheer2:

I'm finally back into routine. We've got a half marathon in March. I really hope I can recapture my enjoyment of doing halfs!! :goodvibes Anne

Kristi--Come do the Pig!!! They allow 20:00 miles!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Plus, the half and the full finish at the same point (there are 2 finish lines right next to each other), so there are people running into the finish area for 7+ hours. Trust me, you will not be alone.

:rotfl2: that is exactly what i did the 1st weekend we were home!!!!

Thinking about Marine Corps Marathon in October, how far are you from Washington, DC?
Colleen - I want to do MCM (having bagged it last year) but I have a trade show in Orlando the week prior, so we're gonna do a cruise that weekend. However, I WILL be doing it in '08 for definite:cheer2: . It looks like Howard may be in for '08 also...

I sincerely apologize for lurking but I have been unable to keep up here with the volume of posts and I have to go to Fort Lauderdale for business next week, so it is crazy:headache: .

Welcome to our newbies and I hope everyone is back safe and sound and settled into post-marathon life:banana: .

My next marathon will be Grandma's in Duluth, MN, as I am working that into a business trip also:thumbsup2 .

Speed work last night on the TM and Pilates class this morning. It is SO darn cold here:eek: . Fort Lauderdale is sounding real good and it'll give me some time to be able to check in with you guys!!

Happy training, recovering, reverse-tapering to all this weekend!!

I'm still on the fence about wearing the WISH shirt since the neckline is so dang uncomfortable for me so the bib would be a great option to have.
Dena - We were originally warned against the tank version (scoop neck), as it is low cut on the sides. I think consensus now is that with a jog bra, it's fine. See the pic in Lily's sig. So, it's another option if you're interested.

I was thinking about it. BUT, if I am going to travel far & pay for a hotel that weekend, I might as well do the Minnie! ;) Then again, I do have a Minnie medal already - but no pig medal... :rotfl:

I will have to check out exactly how far a drive you are from here...

Although I really don't think DF is going to go for the Minnie trip (he didn't bite on graduation not being a "trip") does anyone know when the registration closed last year :rolleyes1

Good morning Racing Team! :upsidedow

This morning I jogged 45 min on the TM @ 4.1 @ 1%. It was three miles.

Jen - I gave up a long time ago trying to explain to people how we are a "Disney based cyber racing team". I am, however, deeply grateful that we are! :thumbsup2

Matt & Mel - What does "View First Unread" do? :confused3 I think I'll try it. I have so many threads on the go, if we had a daily thread, I might lose my job! I post too much anyway so I too will do my part to slow things down.

Hellooo Paul? Paul?? You out there??? :rolleyes1

That works sometimes, but if a new page has been added, it will take you to the last page.

Things will slow down, though. Next week I bet we'll even see a drop.

I hope we don't see too much drop in the traffic around here in the next few weeks--I'm gonna need all the support I can get up until March 4th--then after that ya'll can disappear!:rotfl:

Well, the "gliding Harmony" class turned out to be mostly Pilates with weights, as the normal instructor was out with a sick child--and the sub wasn't really familiar with the gliding discs. But I did get to see the discs, think upside down frisbee, and they use them to stretch in yoga poses and extra work in pilates. Wow, though, I didn't realize how many muscles I haven't used in awhile. Yeah, my legs are strong, but holy crap on the arm and ab workout. Good thing tomorrow is a rest day. I did test out the foot on the TM, a short slow jog, and things seem much better---so I should be good to go for this weekend. Oh goody!

I took a day off yesterday (Wednesdays are hard for me, because both boys are a preschool and I actually work :surfweb: and then with church the day just seems to disappear!!

But, I got right back on today! I am really feeling like I can do this and it is a great feeling!

Now, if I can just get to "know" everyone here (and there sure are a lot of us) I will feel like I really am part of this "club":yay: :yay:
