Wk of Jan 14--WISH Walking/Running Club

:wave2:

Hi everyone! I want to thank everyone for all of their well-wishes during my illness. I greatly appreciate it. I am perfectly healthy now (clean bill of health just 3 days after the races :sad2: ) and am back to work, classes and working out.

I also owe all of you '07 racers a HUGE apology for not writing sooner. It was a lot tougher than I expected, not being able to make the trip. But that was certainly no reason to go AWOL and abandon everyone and not offer my congratulations on what a fantastic job you all did. I rolled myself out of bed both mornings to track everyone (how handy was the list of race numbers!!) and I was completely impressed, especially considering the weather conditions. So please accept my apoligies. I will be catching up with the race reports as soon as I can.

I had actually put off registering for the 2008 races because I just wasn't sure--- Would my heart be in it? Would my work situation in the fall allow my to train better? Would I be able to get back to Orlando one week after my New Year's trip? How in the WORLD am I going to taper on a cruise ship?

I've been lurking on the threads all along and everyone's doing it again in '08! And then there's that 15th anniversary medal. Hmmm.... And the weather can't be bad two years in a row. Hmm.... And THEN I realized that there were about 50 people in this very group who would not LET ME not do this. So I bit the bullet and registered. $250.16 later, I'm in for '08! Let's call it the "Do Over" year :yay:

I fully intend for this year's Goofy attempt to be a year-long process. Dropping some extra weight, lots of conditioning work, getting an early start and running more races during the year. I think that will put me in a training frame on mind better than I had been this year. I definately need to plan better than last year. (And I need a shirt....)

In other news.......

Mmmhmmm.... I knew you were one of those girls. Well, they're real and they're FANTASTIC! :lmao:

I'll try to keep up from here on out!
Kevin :earsboy:
Yahoo, Kevin's back!!!!! Hello Kevin. I'm so glad you've gotten over your bout with mono, and you are finally healthy again. Steve and I were thinking about you, and talking about you on the race course. I'm also so glad you've signed up for Goofy again. You are going to so tackle that course this year, and the training, and your classes, and your work. Go get 'em!!!

Absolutely no apology necessary. I can't imagine how hard it was. We all know by now, if a WISHer goes AWOL major PD is needed big time.pixiedust: :grouphug:

Kevin -- I am so glad you are back! We missed you desperately but we're all excited to share the training experience this year. I know this may not help at all, hon, but let me just tell you -- if there was any brutal-weather year to be forced to sit out of the races, this was it. And if you weren't back to 100% and had subjected your body to the awful heat and humidity, I fear you might have really wiped yourself out.

Sunny -- sorry you are dealing with vertigo. Sending you pixidust: sweetie!

Absolutely no apology needed. Under your circumstances, I may never have been able to come back. Then again, you know we would not let you stay away for too long! ;)

Mmmhmmm.... I knew you were one of those girls. Well, they're real and they're FANTASTIC! :lmao:
Yeah, figured I might be able to draw you out with that. :p Actually, I was hoping you would not catch that. It is truely out of character for me! But I'm so glad you're back!!!! Glad you signed up for Goofy 08 too!!!!! I know you can do it!

So, you've been cleared for about a week now, have you hit the pavement yet? ;)

Sunny - Hope you're feeling better soon!!!!!!! :wizard:

PS - I believe Heather found the shirts website. Sunny's right, though, they have been really good to work with.

Kevin - I know it's not the same, but any chance you could join us for the Minnie to make up for your missed trip? Or, maybe you could make Flying Pig a guy weekend. Scott wanted to go before I ditched him for the Minnie.

Let me clarify a little, I know it is not just a half but after telling everyone around here that I just did a half on Saturday and a full on Sunday, when I say I am doing another race in a couple of month the first question is am I doing both again. So I have gotten in the habit of saying I am just doing the half, meaning not both of them again. That saves on the looks that I am a complete idiot. :) I probably give them enough other reasons to think that as it is. :lmao:

So I am just doing the half and not both. ;)

Kevin - Welcome back. Glad you are feeling better and that you are going to go Goofy next year.

Kristi - It is still hot and I would definately welcome the cool/cold for a little bit. The longer we don't freeze, the more and bigger the bugs get in the summer.

Sunny - Hope you feel better and the new appointment goes well and something is figured out.

Helen - Hope the foot gets better quickly. There is still plenty of time to get ready so now is the best time to heal.

Krista - That was a great report. I'm glad you have decided to try it again sometime.

OK, I can understand that. My apologies. :goodvibes

Good afternoon,

Thanks for the well wishes on the hip. I truly appreciate it. Since I only have a few minutes before taking ds to prek I just wanted to post that I did 2 miles walking at the indoor track yesterday. I finished with stretching.

Today is a off day for me.
Have a great afternoon!
Maggie

...Ok, total newbie question for you. We've been walking for a couple weeks now, basically doing 30 minutes every other day. The muscle that runs up the back of my right leg (well, not really the back, more like the far right side of the back of my leg) that feels funny. Not exactly painful, but not real comfortable, either. Almost like it's been over-stretched?

Anyway, my question is, what am I doing wrong, and should I be worried about it? :confused3
Do as recommended, i.e. rest up a couple of days. Make sure to stretch AFTER you walk. Look up online IT band stretcing and/or stretching for running/walking. It is very inmportant to get the stretching in after a workout.

Kevin, glad you're better. Take it easy as you start up.

Sunny, hope it all clears up already.

Carrie, I like that idea. Guys do Flying Pig and Gals do Minnie. I think that's fair! No?

Boss still hasn't given me an answer to my request for days off....Ughhhh.

Hey Lily - Have a look at the fabulous picture Charlie took of you.... It's on the Race Report Thread. :thumbsup2

Krista - Or, it means that someone has to keep the boys out of trouble. :confused3 Bless you for taking that on. ;)

Hi team! just checking in--today is a rest day--but I don't know how much "rest" I'm actually doing. I'm spending the day babysitting, so I'm chasing after 3 kids--and then I"m actually going to work tonight once DH gets home. Gotta screaming kid--check in later!

Stephanie

Yeah, well I'm not going to tell someone who whopped my but in teh marathon that they're a pig! :p
Psssshaw... you might have if you saw me at Whispering Canyon Cafe the night before the marathon. Mmmmmm, bottomless milkshake... mmmmm, all you can eat skillet.

And, enough of that butt whipping talk. We were all out there giving 100%. What's Christa's siggy say? "We're all winners, some just finish before others" (or something like that).

True, but I'm still not going to say that a pig finished faster than me. ;) BTW, you ran off like 3 days calories on Sunday. You were allowed a day of pigging out!
