(I'll bet you were wondering what the hard-tail was :lmao: )

I wasn't even gonna ask :lmao:

The last I checked, I have lifted 20 VW Beetles. I'm not sure if that is for the month of January or what. I'll have to recheck.

I'm procrastinating right now. I should already be nearly done with my workout and I haven't even left my desk yet...

Its cold and windy and I'm tired and hungry. :rolleyes2

OMG! Do I win the longest post ever on the DIS award? :lmao: You know how competitive I am! ;)

sunny- get out there and do it.

I had motivation problems yesterday first for the run and then for the swim. I think it had to do with the killer 10 mile race on Sunday. I didn't realize that it could be that hilly in coastal ME and then it was the farthest I had ran since the marathon. I ended up doing a little over 5 miles yesterday at an easy, recovery heart rate and the pace wasn't even that bad. The swim however, that was kind of slow. I showed up at the gym thinking all I wanted to do was sit in the hot tub but I did swim 1800 first and then sat in the hot tub.

MelR- yes, I'm familiar w/ what a hard tail is- I just don't ride one. My mtn bike is a Jamis Dakar XC Pro. The common wisdom in triathlon circles is that you run better off the bike w/ a full suspension because of less vibration, etc on the legs. I'm not sure how true physiologically it is, but it can be a mental boost too. Congrats on your new seat post. How much travel does it have? BTW, extra, super-duper congrats on the 50K trail run. I thought the 10 mile this weekend kicked my tail. Oh, this morning I was doing physicals on first graders is why I didn't reply earlier.

Back to lurking and off to school for the afternoon. Will ride tonight.

I made it to the gym! I did an easy 5 miles. 5.25 with cool down in 55 minutes. I think with a little more practice I can master this napping while excersizing thing :rotfl2:

Cam you're a sweetie (as always)!

:Pinkbounc Does jumping up and down count as cross training?!?!? :bounce:

I have so many posts to read to get caught up on but I can't right now because I just got into work because I had my surprise inspection this morning and they said they "Would be happy to recommend me highly to foster"!!!!!!!! :cool1: :woohoo: :yay: :bounce: :cool1: :Pinkbounc :yay:  :cheer2:

OMG OMG! I'm soooo happy!

OK let me see what is in my work email and if it's nothing critical then I'll be back! (And even if it is...Who Cares!?!?!? :teeth: )

Congrats, Judy! So happy for you! :teeth: :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Congrats Judy!!!!!

Foot update - I have Dr's appt for Thurs. Just my regular doc, but one of her partners is the doc for all hs sports in the area and I hear she's very good about grabbing his input. Big debate. Can I wear my tennies to my company' sHQ tomorrow? Not a big company, but still nto quite dress code.

Lynn- It has 76mm or 3 inches of travel. I can adjust the elastimers (sp) for my weight (which I have not yet done, so it is a little stiffer) I rode it on the trail today and it was quite nice. It seems to just even out the little bumps. I didn't know about the triathlon wisdom, but I got the bike I have b/c it was cheap on e-bay and I had such a big heavy terrible bike b/4. Phil rides a full suspension bike which is set up more for downhill, but he just got a cross country bike that he has been using for the last couple of days. He is doing an adventure race w/ our friends in 2 weeks and the xc bike should work better for him. he also got a smaller frame to make it more nimble. He is quite the mt. biker. I haven't crashed in a few days, which is saying something. Hope school is going well.

Sunny - I can't wait to tell the boy how many herbies you lifted. he will be quite thrilled!

Judy - congratulations on your good news!!!

Judy - Congrats! :cool1:

Melissa...Hard tail? Glad you explained it. Maybe someday I will learn this bike language you speak of.

Sunny - WTG on getting out there even if you didn't want to! :cheer2: Lifting herbies...cool! I also reread your marathon report. It is AWESOME! You put the pic of DH, Ron and me in it! Thanks! It was the paper picture w/ Matt Phipps in it.

MickeySP - Oh you look SOOOOO good!

went swimming today ...did 2000 yards or 1.14 miles. I was going further but I got a LEG CRAMP! In my calf! :scared:  Oh it hurt! It still hurts. I could see the cramp! I COULD SEE IT!!!!!!!! :confused3 Lynn, or any swimmer, why did this happen? :confused3 I have NEVER gotten a cramp before and I have been swimming this distance or longer for a while now. I never got the running or biking either? :confused3

GOOD news...I got into a size 4 today! I have been a 6/8 for as long as I can remember... :cool1: This may seen large to some, but it is small to me! :teeth: DH siad I looked good. He would tell me...even if it meant me having to hurt him!

BIG?????? Are you NUTS, child????? How wonderful for you! But my layette was a size 10! You are tiny, itty bitty! Thank God you are so cute and lovable, or I'd have to HURT YOU!!!! :rotfl2: Congratulations, sweetie! I am so happy for you!

Now, about that cramp. I have been told that may be caused by insufficient potassium. Where's Lynne? Oh, Lynnnnnnnnne! :teeth: Lynne would know. Has anyone seen Lynne? Geez, she's probably out healing the sick or doing physicals on 1st graders! Hey, Lynn, your WISH buddies have a question for you!

Christa - SIZE 4!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Appearantly, if you are wearing clothes that small, you have a "hard-tail" too. :rotfl2: I don't know about the cramp but OUCH. I could see it just reading your post

That is so funny that you were re-reading sunny's marathon report today, I read it again yesterday!!! Sunny you must be working too much and not posting enough and we miss you, so we are reading your report. Quit your job, so you can WISH full time!! :thumbsup2

Does that mean bananas? :crazy2: I am not really that fond of bananas...but I'm also not fond of running in the rain, downing gu (or whatever brand I use), Donning my 1/2 naked body to swim...ect...so I guess bananas aren't that bad. :rotfl2:
I think the size 4 was a big size 4, but I did get in them. :goodvibes Thanks guys!
Cam I was :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: reading your post!

:rotfl: Yes, a agree with Cam. That is teeny! Congratulations, I bet you feel like a million $$$.

Mel, congratulations on your race.

christa- Actually it was likely caused by how you were holding your feet while kicking. When I used to swim 5000-7000 yds/practice, people used to especially have issues when using fins. I've never had my calf cramp but I'll have the bottom of my foot(or feet) cramp from pushing off the wall doing flip turns. Think floppy feet when kicking, rather than pointing your toes. Pointing your toes puts pressure on the calf.

No, I wasn't doing anything medical if you discount sweating up puddles. It's sad when you have to open the deck door in ME in Feb and the room that the trainers are in isn't even heated. We did the Spinervals Aero Base Builder IV workout tonight and it lasted 1hr 15' with a 60 min main set. I had gotten changed and my stuff around but hadn't actually made it to the bike room due to low motivation when Maureen came home and got ready to ride so that helped get me onto the bike. Felt fine once riding so am glad I did. Tomorrow is swim and running hill repeats.

Judy- yeah for foster mommy inspection. What was the outcome of the trial?
Christa- yeah for size 4. Yes that is small no matter who says it.
MelR- so he got a new bike and you got a new seatpost? I'm failing to find that fair.
Cam- congrats on the Polar swim. Your whole family looks good. The closest I've ever come was the Chesapeake Bay in Dec for Army-Navy week stunts. Brrr.
Dave- way to go with the consistency especially while travelling. You should consider treating yourself to an iPod for those dreadmill sessions. You deserve it.
MickeySP/Lisa- omg, is it another person? You look great.
Carrie- good luck and PD for the dr visit.
Sunny- great speed work session.
Sunny and MickeySP/Lisa- BTW, I talked to my classmate who lives in Boston and showed him the course map and he said it would be flat and that the Memorial Drive section should be neat even though it's an out and back.
Jodi- come up from CT to Boston on Mar 12 and do the Boston Run to Remember with us. There is a 5 mile race in addition to the Half Marathon.
Minnie- how are you doing? Feeling any better?
TXbelle/Heather- where are you? how is your riding coming?
Welcome and hi to anyone else I missed.

Lynne

MelR- so he got a new bike and you got a new seatpost? I'm failing to find that fair.

Lynn - the last 2 bikes were mine. I upgraded my mt. bike last november (1 yr ago) and got the road bike for my b/d in June. It was technically his turn last time. His road bike is stinky, but he wanted a different mt. bike, b/c you know he is adventure boy!!! Now he is thinking about keeping the downhill bike in addition to the xc bike. I would if i were him!!! It is also fair, b/c he let me get a decent treadmill!!!! YEAH. Now I can work out while the boy watches a short show!!!!! Bed time for the boy. must go!!

Christa - a size 4 big? no way. The last time I was a size 4 was probably when I was 4 years old :teeth: Seriously. I don't thing I ever fit into a woman's size 4.

Terri

Ok, WISHers..I have a question for all of you veterans. In MFM, John says "cotton kills" and NOT to wear cotton socks when walk/running. I've checked several sports stores and that's all that I have found. They even give me weird looks when I mention the synthetic socks! So, if no cotton, where can I get the synthetic socks?

All of you are so awesome in your training! Cam, I really appreciated you posting what your timing was a year ago. I know you vets are trained..but even the 16 minute pace seems far away for me. I did a mile at 15:20 on my LW just to see if I could do a 15 min pace..and it was rough, plus I still had the other 2 miles to do :sad2: (NOT at that pace, though!)!! I'm probably averaging a 17 min pace now. So, Dave when you are putting in miles at 14 and 15 minutes (slow????!!) ..that's fantastic to me!! :thumbsup2 Mel , I've taken heart at your words"some very wise folks around here told me to increase my distance and the pace would follow" Sunny..you just boggle my mind..oh, and that goes for all of the tri people, and adventure trail riders!!
Sunny, thanks for getting MickeySP's pictures into DIS..MickeySP..WOW!!! another inspiration!! Judy, you are just getting back on the TM and already cruising past 3.7?? :woohoo:
OK, back to lurking.....

Maharae - You can get thorlo socks or smartwool socks. I really like the smartwool racers. I like the smartwool adrenline micro crew too. You can get them at Sierratradingpost.com. You can get to that web site through sunny's site (I think it is sunnyshopper.com, but you can get to her site by clicking on her screenname. Anyway, if you go through sunny's site, it doesnt cost you anymore, but i think it helps her. Alot of times you can find the smartwool socks buy 3 get one free. If you want to get them locally, you can check your local outdoor store (like a place that sells backpacks and hiking boots and stuff like that) Good luck witht he socks and keep up the good work training!!!!

Hi All!
Finally got a chance to check back in with everyone. My dd got sick with some icky cold virus which has passed itself all through our family. My throat is so sore I can't even think about running in the cold weather. Ouch! It's extra disappointing since tonight was supposed to be my first attempt at 4 miles. I've successfully worked from only running 30 seconds to doing 5ks pretty easily...so I am really excited to make it up to 4 miles. Hopefully we'll all be better soon.

I've got a question, but I don't really know how to ask it. Basically, what is the highest weight someone should attempt to do the 1/2 marathon? I mean realistically. I know with the proper training anyone can do it. I weigh 194 and am trying to figure out what a realistic goal would be for weightloss before January. I would like to be able to enjoy the run some instead of just suffering through it. Does this make any sense??? :confused3

Keep up the great work guys! Thanks for all your posts. They're so inspiring even when I don't have time to post back!

DENA

Good Morning Everyone,

Another great workout last night - 20 minutes on the ellipitical (level 3), ran/walked for 5 miles (65 minutes) going between 3.8 - 5.5.

Well, have to get ready for work - have a good day everyone!

Jodi
