Wk of Feb 5--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning, :surfweb:

Trying to get caught up after a few days of work. My husband is finally back from skiing, so hopefully this week will be easier to schedule my workouts.

Cam - You have a beautiful family!

Christa - I loved that quote from your mom. Words to live by!

MelR - WOW :thumbsup2

Jodi - remember actions speak louder than words. Just keep at it and your family will see that you CAN do it.

Celeste - How are things? I start my 12 hr shifts this week. How do you fit your workout in on those days? I am guessing I will have to get to the gym at 5 when it opens.

I had a great long r/w 35 min. on Saturday. I kept an easy pace of run 5.0 and walk at 3.8. When it gets hard I just think of you ladies cheering me on. Today's run will increase to 36 min with r/w intervals of 4/2. I am excited to try.

Maggie

Melissa - CONGRATS! :cool1:  :cool1: YOU ARE DA WO...MAN!

Cam - You are also DA WO...MAN! You look so great....I have to agree with Melissa:
Cam- AWESOME Picture!!! You look great. That pic is one of those family treasures! I'm glad it wasn't too bad, but hey, you are an endurance athlete, so being cold and wet for a little while was just a normal day for you I think you can confidently say you did a duathalon today. You swam and you ran!

I will post more later!
Christa

Wow so much great news!!!!!

Cam-- I'm so glad your fam got to do the polar plunge together and you were able to get that family photo. Its great, that belongs on the wall!

MelR-- way to go! Awsome race. How are you feeling about the 50m now? I know you can do it. I think your pace was great.

where's Krista? She's probably on :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: Go Steelers! :cheer2:

Micky-- I can't see your photos either :confused3

Dave-- wow you are increasing mega mileage! great job!

I ran 6 miles outdoors on Saturday. I'm starting to get nervous about my half in March. Six miles seemed like a really long run!!!!

Sunny

Sunny - I don't know about the 50 miler!!!! I feel ok today. I'm just a little sore, but not really impaired. I was pretty sore yesterday. I reallyt think walking around WDW after the marathon helped me recover more quickly. At the very end of our race this weekend, I felt like my right foot was really swollen and I was having trouble negotiating the rocks and terrain changes. I figure the 50 miles will have us on our feet for at least 5 more hours. I will have to really think about what i put in a drop bag. I have other trail shoes (in fact, i had never run in the pair i did the race in - i know, bad melissa, bad bad melissa) The pair i ran in is actually the first pair of trail shoes that don't blister my feet! I think the 50 will all depend on the terrain!!! I can't find a copy of the trail on a topo map!! I have the topo, but i'm not sure exactly where the trail is. anyway, we had so much sustained uphill, that the 50 miler may be easier terrain wise, but the distance my kill my feet!!!!! BTW, the shirts for the 50miler last yr were lime green moisture wicking shirts (like the one's we got from the marathon, but WISH colors!!) I hope they are the same color this year. Do you want to come and do it w/ us?????????? BTW, you are going to do fine on you 1/2. I'm sure you can do 10 miles w/ no prob and that is generally the longest distance LR in the 1/2 training program!!!!!

For you early risers (those who work-out at 4:30- 5 AM) How do you do it? I am usually not a morning person at all. I've even set 3 alarm clocks and still have a hard time getting up early to get work-outs in before work. I'm much better at night, but sometimes work gets in the way and by the time I get home there is no motivation.
Terri
My alarm is set for 4:10 and most mornings I am up before it goes off. I wake up during the night wondering if the time has come that I get to run. Early morning is my favorite time of the day, for many reasons. I guess it just takes a little time for getting up that early to become a habit. I also know that if I didn't run first thing, I wouldn't get it done. That is motivation enough for me.

MelR - congrats on the race!! Awesome pace.

Cam - Love the pic! We have a Polar Bear Swim on New Year's Day in Lake George but I have never been  enough to do it!!

Congrats to all of the Steeler fans out there.

To all you central Floridians, the leftover marathon merchandise has made its way over to the Character Warehouse in the outlet mall over on Vineland (Orlando Premium Outlet Mall). I was able to pick up a few things for DH and myself.

My trip was great last week except for the torrential weather on Friday. Tornado warnings and lightning in Orlando kept me from riding Expedition Everest.

Glad to be back home. I had a great run this morning :cheer2: I am hoping to get serious about training for Minnie sometime soon...

Best of luck to all on successful runs/walks this week.

I really, really can't keep up after a weekend away. Yikes!

Cam - Woo hoo! First - 4 minutes off your pace, and at a longer distance in yucky conditions, is awesome!!!!!!! I recall you thinking you would never make the pace fo rthe half last year. Look at how far you've come! BTW, you were worried about wearign a bathing suit? You look awesome! Very nice looking family too!

MelR - Seems like you had a race this weekend. How'd that go? (Forgive me if I'm way off)

I think MickeySP asked about going from first half to a full. I have not done that, but I went from 0 to ull last year. We started training March 7 and did the full in January. I don't know that I recommend that for everyone, but if you're in good enough shape tha tyou just did the half, you are way ahead of where we were last year (dh and I). I don't see any reason you could not do the full.

Lily - Still thining of you and your family! :grouphug:

Krista - Congrats on your victory!

To all of the new memebers - Thanks for keeping us accoutnable and helping to inspire us! It really helps to hear your stories and share ours. I'll rty to get up to speed with all of you individually soon, but I do love the new life you're brining here. Like Mel,. I thought we'd fade a bit by this time.

OK, I think I re-injured my foot last week. So, although it got much better when I removed the charm, that may not have been the full cause. I'm thinking it's time to see the doc. Just got to figure to where to go. I know a friedn of a friend who's the trainer for teh local WHL team. I may try to look him up. If one of the experts has any ideas in the mean time let me know. It's at the top of my foot, just to the outside of center. A spot about the size of a nickel hurts to touch. WHen it was really bad, the pain went all the way down to where my toes meet my foot adn radiated towards teh ball of my foot in a strigh line all the way across. Last week, at the end of a run, it felt like I pulled a whol bunch of muscles somethings the top of my foot. The ball/toe/foot joints don't hurt as bad, but hte pain does go down to that join still, just not all teh way across.

I have not run since Thursday and have shoes that do not irritate it, but it hurt Fridaymost of the day, some saturday adn mos tof Sunday. It hurt within an hour of my getting up today too. Before, it only hurt towards the end of a work day adn when I ran. After I removed the charm, for several days, it only hurt when I ran. Any tips would be appreciated, but I will try to get to a pro.

As for my next event, it look like nothing until May, when I do teh Mackinaw Bridge Run.

Hi everyone!

Thank you all for responding to my question regarding the 2nd opinion. I'm leaning that direction I'm just trying to decide who to see. I know my regular DR will do a referral to whoever. I have another PT appointment this afternoon with a different therapist so we'll see how that goes.

BTW - I have a shoe question. I know which ones I want but the store I normally purchse them are out. The ones I want are the Asics Kayano and the only have the new version not last years (which are the ones I want). Any idea of where I can find these????

Cam - Fabulous picture. What a smile in the cold :p

MelR - You continue to amaze me as always. Great job :cheer2:

Carrie - :wizard: for your injury. I hope you get relief soon :grouphug:

Watch out. Judith Anne's in a mood today. Do women have midlife crises? I think I'm having one. :rolleyes2

Anyway, enough about me.

Cam - You DO look glam-or-ous in that bathing suit! :thumbsup2 I like it! That is a great picture and you're too funny with the training comments. On a sort of similar note my stepdaughter's were up this weekend and my husband found them downstairs "playing" on the treadmill. We've told them time and time again not to do that, mostly because we are afraid they'd get hurt, but to be honest, I my first thought was to my training if something happened and the TM got broken. Terrible I know, but it was my gut reaction.

Terri - I have always been an early riser because of my horses. Especially May-June when the sun comes up really early. It's my favorite time to ride. So getting up early has never been an issue for me. So now I just set my alarm for 4:45am instead of 5:30am. I find now the problem is I wake up, like I did this morning, at 4:15am, ready to get on the TM, but I make myself stay in bed until 4:45. Of course, please realize I'm sound asleep by 9:00-9:30pm. :teeth:

Jodi - My DH is very supportive of my doing the Half. My dad was really surprised but he has faith in me. He and I used to run six miles everyday after work, back in the day. But I think if someone did not believe in me, well, that would give me even more impetus to do it.

MelR - Whoo hoo! You go girl! :cheer2:

Dave - Nice work on increasing the mileage! :Pinkbounc Oh and was there a football game on this weekend??? :confused3

My knees hurt. They have for a couple of days. Not a hurt like something is wrong, more like they hurt because they are still saying "***?!?!?". Actually my "old" knee hurts when I lay down, or put my feet up. Not a really bad pain, but a nagging one. So this morning, I did not run. I walked 45 min @ 3.7 @ 1% for the whole time. Sunday I did my LW, one hour @ 3.5. Sat was a rest day.

Judy

I'll be back later for more, but for now all I have to say is:

Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My throat is still sore from screaming and my head is still pounding, but I'll live with it!!!!!!!! And my boy was the MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it!!!! You know what means when are the Super Bowl MVP--Grand Marshall at the Share A Dream Come True parade at the Magic Kingdom!!!!!!!! AUGH!!!! I wish I weren't hundreds of miles away from WDW. I nominate Mel to go and take pictures for me!! Oh, and who wants to help me kidnap Hines Ward's son? Isn't he a cutie??

I'm rambling, so I'll go, I'll be back later, but I'll leave you with this: :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 (that's one for the thumb  )

Hi Everyone,

Had a wonderful workout this morning. Here it is:

Treadmill - 65 minutes, 5 miles, going from 3.8 - 5.5 in five minute intervals
Abs (on stability ball) - 30 reps, 4 sets
Seated leg Curl - 25 pounds, 12 reps, 3 sets
Leg extensions - 25 pounds, 12 reps, 3 sets
One Leg extensions - 10 pounds, 12 reps, 3 sets (each leg)

That's it - although, at the time I felt like I could keep on going.

Jodi

Awesome workout jodi!

I'd like to do abs on the stability ball--but my back starts hurting. CAn't figure that out :(.

Honiebee--sorry your knees hurt. You may consider icing them post exercise. It can reduce the "WTH" response your knees are giving you.

Great Pic!

Awesome job battling the waves. You guys look :cold: !

Thanks Lisa, I did start icing them. That seems to help. :thumbsup2 But thanks for the excellent advice, as always. :teeth:

BTW I notice you are going to Oahu. :teeth: All thru high school my friend Ronnie and I talked about going there, because his parents went every year for their anniversary and would never take him. But when it came time to buy the tickets, he backed out. Well, I said the heck with this, I'M GOING! And...I did. All by myself. :smooth: This may not seem like such a big deal now in 2006, but in 1981, a young girl, getting on a plane all by herself, at least where I came from, was unheard of! but let me tell you, I had the BEST TIME! It was back in the day when I was still running and I would get up REALLY early, thanks to the time change, and run up and down Kamehameha Boulevard before anyone but the beach sweepers were up. What a great vacation that was! I'm so glad - still - that I went. :goodvibes

Judy

Judy-- I'm sorry to hear your knees hurt. I hope icing and resting settles their attitude down ;)

I did speed work today (TM)

.5% incline
mile @ mph:
.5 6.0
.5 7.5
.5 6.0
.5 7.5
.5 6.0
.5 7.5
.75 6.0
.25 7.5
1.0 6.2

for a total of 5 miles.

Sunny - you are cracking me up worrying about the half and saying that 6 miles is a long run and then doing 5 MILES OF SPEEDWORK!!! I also like how your slow stuff during the speedwork is 6.0 on the treadmill!!! I think that would be my fast pace :lmao:

Speaking of treadmills.... guess what i'm getting for valentines day

Morning - have decided I must be doing something wrong. Mel's getting a treadmill for Valentines, I'm getting an Eyeore in heart print boxers (I know cos I found him while packing the cases when we left WDW!). Mind you he has been flown xxxx thousand km so he is special.

Krista - we did wonder about you yesterday. I am hoping that the furry Hines got extra tea last night in celebration. It was a public holiday here and so Tim was at home doing his 'superbowl party for one' while I worked downstairs. We did go to the mexican place and bring home quesadillas and have Bud though.

Carrie -I had a mild version of your foot thing, in my case it was my odd shaped feet that was the cause (who was it that wanted to see them at the Trails End meet - MelR, me thinks it was you!!!), apparently the tissue between my toes is eroding causing them to flatten out which puts pressure on that middle area when I run. Mine got sorted out by adding a sticky pad to my orthotics - though I think yours sounds a bit more acute, I'd say definitely go for another check.

Everyone else, keep it up - I ran half an hour last night, slow out, superspeedy back - am definitely enjoying sprinting more than jogging at the moment, shame I can only do it for a very short time!!! Oh and what's this about Sunny worrying about a half - ummmmm, why? Helen

It took me all day to figure out who you reminded me of in that picture! :confused3

But I just thought of it. :thumbsup2

Susan Lucci!

For those that havent made hotel reservations for DL -get on the phone. I called to see about possibly switching to DLH. Well both DLH and PP are SOLD OUT for that weekend. ALL ROOMS! GC had rooms but their AAA rate was $320.

I did 35 min on the bike (ended up being 7 miles) and ST today. My tendonitis is acting up from just doing 1.5 miles yesterday. I dont have time for this!!!!! I have some Minnie training to do pirate: I go back to the ortho in a week.

Sunny-I am positive you have nothing to worry about for your 1/2. You are doing awesome!

A quick funny:

So, we get our pic cds from the marathon last week and I'm going though the pics. I ask dh, "You don't remeber seeing the characters at the finish?".

"no."

"That's really funny, because in this pic, you're slapping CHip or Dale's hand!"

lol. He was a little loopy at the end.

Just got back from the gym. Including 5min/pre and 5min/post I was on the TM for 46min. I ran at 5.0 and walked at 4.0. It was hard, but I traveled just over 3.2 miles. I haven't done that before. Even though it was hard -- it also felt good.

Maggie

Carrie - did the cd have pics of just you on it or were there other pics of the race? I didn't get one but was wondering how they would do that, assuming they didn't get too many pics of someone.

I did get a pic of me high-fiving Chip on Main Street. Wonder how long it took him to 'run" to the finish area :teeth:

I also saw Pluto at the finish line.
