Wk of Feb 5--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi guys - quick TDL update, it's not 100% confirmed but he was out with his boss Friday night, and boss has placed order for sake, me thinks that means it's a yes!!!! Yipppeeee....

Actually posting to answer a couple of questions though

Amybeth: your pace for 2 miler is amazing considering you've just started running, there are days when I dream of an 11 minute mile!!! As for pain, nothing hurt during the race itself except my feet which totally surprised me, they ached when I walked at about mile 21 but then I started running again and beat that out of them, The next day was another story though - anyone else wake up Monday morning and lie there thinking 'I don't know if I can bend my legs enough to get out of bed? And don't even talk about the pain of bending on bathroom visits -never before have I so wanted to be a man!!!!

MelR thanks for posting the pic, mine is still on my undeveloped camera. I really must deal with this Amish thing I've got going on. I forgot how cute Cam's penguin was - I was so overwhelmed with finally meeting everyone the details kind of blurred

Dave: I completely understand what you're going through, the reason I'm not going Goofy 2007 is that I don't think it's fair to make Tim spend another year of weekends alone, and we can't really justify another trip to Orlando so soon (especially not with TDL and the DL half this year!), but man it's making me grumpy that I can't go - and as for messing with my running, don't even go there. Today I got 20 minutes into my 2 hour run, threw a big hissy fit with myself about how I didn't want to play any more as it's just no fun now- and got in the car and went to the gym instead. I'm going to regret that at about 8 miles next Sunday aren't I! Helen

Jodi- Last year, you simply registered for the 1/2 and the full and then you can do the Goofy Challenge. It should be the same way next year. I am registered for the full, but I am still thinking about going for the Goofy. :goofy: Registration for both events closed in August last year, so we have a little time to decide. It would definitely be a once in a lifetime achievement. We need to convince Cam and Mel (Chimera) to go Goofy and then we could all train and do it together.

That would be fun to train all together :teeth: . Although, I won't commit yet - I have to say I really want to do both. :goodvibes I'm hoping with the running club that I joined, and a couple of marathons that I want to do through the year......well, I will be prepared.

Let me know if you definetely decide to do the Goofy and I will do the same :thumbsup2

I'm with you on the whole amish thing (not that your picture looks amish, just that i was embarrased by my appearance as well!). I was actually mortified by my pic, but it was the one with the most of us in it. I hate when my body language refelcts how I am feeling (which of course it always does) I looked like a slouched over little lost puppy in that pic. I was feeling overwhelmed too. I may have to actually post a better pic of myself next week just for appearance redemption.

Guess who is sitting in my lap????? paw: :fish: :donald: :hmghost: :charac4: :hyper2: party: :dancer: :worship: :stir: pirate:

Sunny- :worship: for getting out this morning.

I waited until it hit 20 degrees before doing my run today. I was supposed to go 13 and ended up with 13.11. Not quite sure where I got the extra .11 but it made it a half marathon ;) It wasn't very fast(ave 11:15 miles) but it actually felt pretty good rather than yucky like the 10 mile race last Sun and the 8 miles I had done the week before. I'm hoping it's my increased attention to my caloric intake and not the fact that I ran on Sat rather than Sun after biking Sat. That would be a bad thing for tri training if it were the case. I got passed at one point by one of my male classmates that ran cross country and track for Duke. He was going 16. This guy was upset when he ran 5:44 miles for a half last fall and got second. He thought he was 'slow' showing everything is relative.

Guess what I did this week for the first time since high school???
I ran 5 out of 7 days. I haven't done that since I ran cross country in high school. It happened due to a fluke in the schedule because I'm supposed to run long on Saturdays but the race last weekend was on Sunday. So I did ~11+ on Sunday, 5.11 Mon, 5.16 Weds, 4 Thurs, and 13.11 today for a total of over 38 miles for the week. I don't think I hit over 35 prepping for the WDW marathon and I thought that was alot of running for me. And best of all, I don't really hurt(blisters don't count- my feet are a bit of a mess). I swam Mon, Weds, Fri and biked Tues, Thurs. And just for giggles, I had 27 hours of lecture and preceptor last week. I'll get my third bike for the training week tomorrow. Next's week run schedule is Mon, Weds, Thurs, Sat with a theoretical total of 29 miles. It's a relative rest week with no hard sessions and a long run of 10 rather than 13.

Tiff, Christa, MelR- all this talk of new bikes was a very bad influence. I'm not talking to you guys for at least 3 secs....Okay, that's over. I went back to the shop where Maureen got her new tri bike last week and ordered my new one today. Actually, I'm only getting the frame, fork, and a Dura Ace bottom bracket/crankset(it's integrated as one piece and therefore lightweight). The roo baby is going to be completely stripped of everything but the crankset to build up the Aegis Trident. Aegis is a relatively small builder that all they do is carbon fiber bikes and they are built right here in ME. They are absolutely gorgeous to say nothing of incredibly light when seen in person. The website really doesn't do them justice. It also hasn't been updated with the changes made to the 2006 models which is what mine will be. It could be in as early as Thur or Fri next week depending on whether they have one made. I'm going to have to train really hard so I can be ultra fast to justify the new bike. As if my race schedule wasn't enough motivation to get the sessions in...

Welcome to the new people.
PD for Nancy, Minnie, and anyone else struggling with injuries or other life issues.
:cheer2: for the people making training beakthroughs such as MelC, Dave, Jodi, Cam, etc.
Cam- yeah for West Chester U. Did I mention I lived in Philly and worked at HUP(Hosp U Penn) and took classes at Penn for a year? I actually know where West Chester is!
Judy- I hope you got the horsie today. I took have had close encounters of the striped putty cat kind. Never with a show one though. For some reason, they seemed to be all over the Stanford campus the summer I worked there with the swim camps.
Speaking of swimming- good luck with the swim lessons Sunny. Be a good student so you can do the sprint race at Timberman this summer.

Rhonda, I love that pic. So cute. I actually think the "lean" makes it so little girl-like. You could always crop it out if it bothers you.

Nancy, prayers, PD, and positive energy for you, DH and family. So sorry about MIL. Praying for all involved. Good that you have found your way to de-stress.

Dave, you are such a great thoughtful guy. I forgot that you did mention other conditions of your decision earlier. PD to you over that decision. Hope you find that pot o gold to make it happen though. (It would be a memorable b'day celebration.)

Helen, Yay for sake order! That is going to be one tremendous opportunity. Hope it all gets put together smoothly.

MickeySP, I'd use a scarf wrapped around and do as Sunny said, pull it off at times.

Minnie, good news about getting pushed up in the line. Sooner to get it all sorted and up and moving again.

Sunny, have fun with the movie thing. I figure DS will come around, keep offering physical things and he'll find something he likes.

MelR, I'll take some of those pretend burgers. It will be the best thing for my healthy eating needs! Show "The Boy" these in trade:
:wizard: :wizard: pirate: pirate: :coffee: :coffee: :worship: :worship: :thanks: :thanks: :mickeyjum :mickeyjum pug:  :thumbsup2 :yay:

Jodi, you are going to do a COUPLE of marathons during the year! Wow! I'm thinking that is a LOT!

Maherae, yes you are right. You will be at the 15 min pace in not time! You are doing it!

Judy, hope your horse arrived as expected.

Lynne, new bike! Congrats to you. I was just thinking about some more bike rides on my big ol honkin' bike soon as I can. I don't have a tri anything, I have a Trek old old bike but I can get to where I wanna go and racin' isn't in my plans even a little bit. (Oh, well for a sec when you young 'uns were talking, but I realized I'm way older and don't think it is wise to start out tri-anything here)

I did some TM work today. Played on it for a little over an hour. I feel pretty good about it. I took it easy and kept the pace down since I am just back to building up my pace. I am glad to be back at it for sure.

Hi, everyone! Have been missing all of you. Amazing how much you are in my thoughts during the day.
"I wonder if Judy's new baby arrived. Have to remember to tell her how sweet it was of DH to set up the DVD player for her. What a keeper!"
"I hope Nancy's MIL is doing okay and that Barry's flight goes as scheduled with the huge storm coming in"

Rhonda -- That picture is wonderful! They look so proud to be all gussied up togethere. What a treasure!
Lynne -- I had forgotten you spent part of your education in Phila. What a small world!
Sunny -- are you NUTS!?!?!?!? Is it even healthy to breathe that cold air into your lungs for such an extended period of time?

Melissa - Thank you for posting that picture. What a great time that was. I realize now how many people were missing. Yes, I am the only geek wearing shorts. Heck, I'm from the Northeast and was determined to wear shorts in the middle of the winter! By that point my penguin had been autographed and I was reluctant to leave him in our room!

Hey, has anyone seen Carrie?

So excited to see so many new people here.

I can't believe anyone would think they can talk me into going Goofy! I feel like a total imposter for aspiring to do the Full!

I only did 2 miles on the TM today -- the first was in 13:12 (I jogged several times for 2 minutes at a time, but did the walking at only 4.0) and the second mile was 13:57 (all walking). Then almost 7 miles on the bike in 30 minutes.

Oops, I didn't mean full blown marathons (I have a tendency to call them marathons) - The first that I am looking into is just a 5k (that's in May) Then there is a half marathon in June or is it July....can't remember but I would like to do that as well. I just wanted something that would give me a taste of what it might be like to run in a large group before actually doing so.

You're right a couple of full blown marathons would be too much for me. :thumbsup2

Cam, don't think that way at all. You totally deserve to be at the start line for the full marathon. :thumbsup2

MelR, I like the boys choice in characters!

Hey disneybelle, :wave2: sounds like you are doing great!

Amy, you really must be fit! I see Mickey in your future!!

Dave, 3.9 miles, so great! Doesn't 2 miles seem like a walk in the park now. Just up from here!!

We had a depressing day here today, that storm that is going to hit the Northeast tomorrow rolled through NC today. Lots of slushy, wet stuff. I didn't want to go out in it at all. DH is suppose to fly into LGA tomorrow for meetings in NY next week. Not sure if he will be flying tomorrow.

I was able to do another 6 miles on the TM yesterday.
6.0 for a mile
6.5 for three
7.0 for one
6.0 for one
Felt great, but I really need to get out and pound some pavement for a nice slow LR. 6 miles has been my longest run since the marathon. I must be suffering from PMD too because it has been so hard for me to get the ambition up to strap on the Mizunos, Garmin and fuelbelt and head out.

Sunny good job signing up for swimming lessons. I am still too chicken. Tell me how it goes. Also, thanks for the tutorial on the double quote posting.

Colleen
