Wk of Feb 26--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Kathy - So sorry it's not going well. pixiedust:

All weight Strugglers - I've been much better since I've been back. I was a bottomless pit last year. ***Warning to teh new poeple** You cannot eat whatever you want while training! ;) I've been pretty bad about caffeine adn that's more than likely dehydrating me and helping with teh water retention.

Mel - I remeber your first race. Wow. You've come sooooo far!!!!!! Good luck SUnday!

Kevin - What an enlightened "boy" (your word). I'm so impressed!

Well, teh thermometer did not say it was cold, but my eyes watered, my lungs hurt adn my fingers refused to warm. So, we dh suggested that we only go 30, not 50, minutes. I jumped at that! Slidign my LR to MOnday after a month of nursing my foot made this body tired too.

HAve a great weekend everyone!

Carrie: Way to go on the run....think of all those extra calories burned in the cold weather. Even though you cut the run to 30 minutes (my maximum thus far LOL)...you still did great this week. I'm so happy for you that the foot is doing much better!!!!

Kevin: I'm going to test the water theory. I've decided that the one thing I can really control is drinking more liquids. AND cutting back on caffeine... :coffee: . I'm going to try to switch from coffee to herbal (decaf) tea. We'll see if that helps!

Mel: Believe me...don't think I'll try spitting again any time soon :rotfl: . But in my defense...so you guys don't think I'm a total piggy....it was bitter cold and windy which does cause secretion issues when exercising LOL.

Kathy: pixiedust: to you...hoping that your tendonitis heals up so you can train!!! And those headaches sound awful :(

Kevin and Monte: Sounds like you both had a good training today! :thumbsup2

I did my XT this evening...30 uninspired minutes on the ski machine and 10 minutes of ab work. I also did some good stretching. Tomorrow I hope to run....hopefully the plows have cleared all roads!

Amy! OMG! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Your story was funny! I needed that laugh. Thanks so much.

Kathy, sorry about your situation. Hope you heal fast. I don't want to talk about the getting old thing. Seems as though I am struggling with some issues there these days too.

Monte! You are posting, I'm sorry I talked you into coming on an letting us know how you are and then I disappear. Keep up the great work.

Struggling here, feeling sorry for myself, getting over it. Sheesh.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Sadly this week - I haven't gotten as much done as I wanted but I still hope to be able to turn that around in the next couple of days......yesterday's snow/ice yesterday slowed me down. It ended up taking me an hour and half to get home last night

Tomorrow is my personal trainer session - looking forward to that  I always have a good time training. Hopefully tonight I will get to run.

I still have to catch up on posts - from this week......maybe I can do that tonight, normally I can do it at work but I've been super busy this week.

Well, have a good day everyone!

Jodi

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Monte - Great job with your walk! :thumbsup2 WTG!

Kathy - Sorry to hear about your tendonitis and other troubles. Here's some pixiedust :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your aches and pains. I know what you mean about getting furstrated with your body. Hang in there, and relish in the fact that your body did complete the 1/2 marathon. So you can do it! Have a great time in WDW!

MelR - Hmmmm, I'm not sure I'm getting what you're implying. ;) Just what kind of X-training was Phile doing anyhow? :rotfl2: :lmao:

Colleen - Gaah, there's no way we'd be doing that for at least another 4-6 weeks up here in the North. Wow!

Mel - Your 1/2 is Sunday!! :woohoo: You go girl!!!

Lily - I hope everything is going well for you and your family. How is your son recovering? :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Jodi - Good to hear from you. I was wondering how you were doing this week. Are you going to be able to get out with your running group this weekend?

Where's some of my fellow 1st time marathoners? Judy and Dena, I hope you both are doing well. How's Mist doing Judy?

Finally, here's some pixiedust :wizard: :wizard: to MouseDogMom. Just wanted to wish you all the best for everything you have going on now. Let your mind go free during your training runs. It will give you strength for everything else.

Hi Dave -

I haven't gone with the running group yet - Unfortunately, during the week is just too tough to get to and the past couple of Saturdays I've had plans to meet with my trainer or get my hair done (at least last Saturday with the hair). This Saturday, I still won't get to do it because I had made plans with my trainer. One way or another running will happen this weekend - just without the group......although, I'm dying to meet everyone!

Sounds like you are doing really well, with your training - keep up the good work.

BTW - Your daughters are adorable :goodvibes

Jodi

Hey I'm debating on whether to do a trial run with a marathon. There are two that I'm interested in (but will only be going with one of the two). One is in October and the other is in November - do you think that's too close to the Disney Marathon?

Thanks,

Jodi

That is AWESOME! You will be FLYING at Goofy!

Oh - Thank you... for the great compliment! I hope I can fly through Goofy or at least finish it with no problem. :goodvibes

Hi, everyone! Just stopping in to say "hello".

Kathy -- I hope your foot heals fast and painlessly. :wizard: If you have to do WDW in a wheelchair just not to overdo it with your foot, don't hesitate to do that. I took my friend for a weekend last summer and she had a broken foot, and I think we had more fun and accomplished more with her in a WC than we would have otherwise.

OMG, there is so much drama at my office today. I closed my door and am just hoping the storm (read: moodiness) passes quickly.

Amy-- :rotfl2: I don't spit while running, but as a fellow cold weather runner I certainly have had many experiences with snot and mittens and neck warmers and sleeves.... Suffice it to say, everything gets washed at the end of my run!

Cam-- I know you aren't happy with an 8 lb loss since Aug, but the national average weight gain through winter is 8 lbs so that really makes you 16 lbs better off than you might have been otherwise. Come Spring I'm sure you will see your weightloss pick up again. Until then, hang in there! :grouphug: I ended February with a GAIN instead of the 5 lb loss I was hoping for  But I also know Jan-March is my worst time of the year for energy and eating so I'm trying not to freak out about it.

Oh, and I meant to comment waaaaay back about the "Adult Onset Athlete"-- I love it :lmao: :thumbsup2 I definitely have that! I hope there's no cure!

Guess what? I did it! I braved the big scarey "He-man" weight room at the Y last night. Turns out its not nearly as scarey as getting in the pool :rotfl: That's where they have the real leg press (as opposed to the nautilus leg press). So now I'm good to go, I'll strut in there when ever I feel like it :teeth:

I did weights and 10 miles stat. bike last night. DS's swim lessons start tonight (unless I screwed up his schedule, too) so I'm hoping to hop on one of the machines that overlooks the pool and get a little cardio in while he smims.

I'm kindof looking forward to my half now.

Those are great words of encouragement. It sure made me feel better!!!

Oh and Sunny... I belong to the Y also and would never go in the weight room with all the muscle bound macho men. A couple years ago I went in with my hubby and now I just giggle when the big guys try to show off!!!! I just want to say... yah you can lift weights, but what else can you do!!!! They built a new Y close to my house and the cardio and weight are all in one huge room (smaller Y). Tho the place is so packed all the time it frustrates me!

I still want to lose 50 pounds before my first Disney 1/2 Marathon. All the extra PG weight is not making running easy (tho I don't think running is ever easy!!). I was never an athlete growing up... I was always the chubby kid. So now is my chance to prove to everyone that I can do it!! (I am almost 34).

OK, enough rambling for me!

Good morning everyone and PRAISE THE LORD it's FRIDAY because if I had to spend one more day at this STINKING OFFICE with these ************* that I work for, I might miss the Half because I would be incarcerated for manslaughter. :furious: Or would it be murder? Which is premeditated? Don't worry WISHers, I'm not really thinking that. I'd just like to kick their behinds. Or maybe just have them GO AWAY! I HATE working for the "ol boys network"! :headache:

OK I'm better now.

Yesterday was an awful, horrible day. Besides the snowstorm and the fact that I was home alone and had to do all the plowing and shoveling and I felt like doo-doo, work really stunk, as you can tell. So, this morning, I wallowed in self-pity and did not work out. Tomorrow is a rest day but I will do a TM session to make up for today. :rolleyes2

Dave - Thanks for asking about Mist. Apparently she has a real dislike of snow (kinda like her foster-mom!) and she was a lunatic all day yesterday. She nearly plowed me down when I tried to feed her. In my next life, remind me to take up knitting as a hobby.

I just want to tell you all that among the "horsey set" doing a Farmer's Blow is standard procedure. I am totally not fazed by FB or Snot Rockets. Believe me, when you spend all your time getting horse boogers blown on you, human stuff ain't nuttin!

To everyone struggling with weight.....In Jan 2004 DH & I started WW and started walking on the TM. Within three months I had lost 30 pounds! I was thrilled! But then....well, I fell off the wagon. I put 20 pounds back on. Between the new house and our wedding I just didn't have the focus I needed. So this Jan we started again. To date...I have lost four pounds. I don't get it.

Gosh this is a depressing post. :guilty:

Whoa, I miss a week and I feel like I missed a lifetime. I printed the thread out at work so I can read it later.

I finally feel like I may make the full Goofy, my intervals are getting easier to do. Let me know if you think these are getting there.

I do 20 min -2/1 4.0 to 5.4
then 35 min 3/2 3.9 to 5.5
then rpt 20 2/1 4.0 to 5.4

I am also doing alot of core and ab work. I am slowly working the number of miles per week up. I have been told for marathon training the average should be between 50 -60 miles weekly.

keep in mind I am a good 40lbs overweight still, hopefully that will be gone by January.

Lily - :grouphug:

jodi - personally, i think that's way too close. Accordint to teh penguin, you need 23 weeks (3 reverse taper and 20 to start again). I'd do a half then, but not a full. JMO.

I am going to lose 50 pounds by race time also, so we can be cheering each other on. I was also always the chubby kid growing up also...oh wait I still am the chubby kid--but now I'm a chubby kid who can run (just point me toward the food hehehehehe).

Amy- :rotfl: your story cracked me up. I have tried spitting before while running/walking....yeah...I have learned to check that no one is around and to always have a kleenex.

okay I'm off to go 13 miles, 8 of which will be jogging. *takes brain out and puts it on the shelf*

:cool1: I got my run in today. The winds were horrible though! I set out for my scheduled 30 minute outing! I tried another new route and I really liked it...challenging enough and a nice closed loop! Since it was my first time out on this loop I had no idea of the mile markers so I just tried to keep a nice even pace. I did 5:1 run:walk interval which I really like. I think I feel better overall right now sticking with the 5:1. The other day I ran the full 30 minutes and had a slower pace overall. That's weird :confused3 . Afterwards I jumped in the car and checked the distance, turns out I ran an avg. 11.11 min/mile :thumbsup2 I'm pretty pleased with that as this week is my 4th week running using Galloway's 5K trainer. My goal is to run the April 5K in under 11 min/mile. I think that may be attainable!!! :goodvibes

Okay...I'm off to do abs, stretch and then I have a girl scout meeting to run! Have a great weekend everyone! I'll have to catch up on everyone's posts later.....sorry to post and run :rolleyes1 .

I discovered a way to save time-- combine addictions :rotfl2: I just did 70 minutes of cardio at the gym while doing Soduko puzzles. Unfortunately, this lowered how hard I worked out and also lowered my ability to solve the puzzles but it was fun!
