Wk of Feb 26--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Aw Tiff, that is so bad that your ressie got mixed. I will hope it sorts out.

Maggie, Yay for that core class. You need to do many of those. It may make that difference you need. Good idea to cut back some until your able to get it going again.

Mel, beautiful pic of those gals.

Lilouisianagal, Welcome to our team! :goofy: So, do both!
Sounds like you can do it. You are already faster than me and I made it. Ya just need to put in those steps for the distance and you’ll be good to go.

Judy -- I don' t care how old you say you ….
Hey! If she WANTS to be the “old one” here LET her! (Takes the pressure off me!) :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Cam, I love those events you’ve got lined up.

Dave, good that you decided to cut back. It’s ok to slow down some just now. You are doing great!

Christy, good going. Keep at it now! You are right, it is just around the corner. Put in that training GF!

Jen117, Welcome to the WISH Team! You don’t absolutely have to register now, but if I’m around I will tell ya to do it! It makes the training experience so much more fun. That you have been working on the TM already puts you well into this. You will have 3 ½ hours (16 minutes for a mile pace) to do this. We will recommend you try to achieve a 15 minute for a mile pace to make your event finish certain.

Advice=stop at the top of this thread for info about some things. There is a wealth of info. Ask all ya want. Many answers here for sure. I would recommend picking a program to follow so you have an outline of what to do. Personally I am using the book Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingam and have found certain results with that. Stop in often and hope this is good to get you started.

AmyBeth68, sushi theory.. Eyyyyyewww! But if it works…

Kevin, if you need any help with that Goofy plan, I can attest to the site that the North Caroline reps (Crista and Bree right?) posted at tricharlotte.com. that relates in your training program whatever you are going to follow (again, I did MfM) when the miles got to 12/week LR then split half on day 1 and full amount on day 2, take off day b4 and day after to recover. In the meantime train yourself up well as you are already doing. It should be a “walk in the park” by then!

Well, The Minnie, hmmmm, I so want to do it, but it may not all be in alignment for me. After sleeping on it I have some concerns. First off, my little one at work is off all the week following the event. That would mean the best I could do would be to return Monday and see if my boss would be ok with sitting the office. (Sometimes we need to do this, so I’m thinking the “need” is there right?) Then I checked flights from Cleveland to Orlando and Akron to Orlando. They are quite expensive. There is a possibility of an affordable scenario, but all depends on Boss for Monday off. Otherwise coming home late Sunday really cranks up the price. Then there is the room thing, but I am sure it will be something that can be worked around once I get the other stuff. Notice I didn’t let the idea creep in that yesterday was not a good pace for me and that today DH and I went for a 2 ½ miler and it was all I could do to keep up with him! Pace? Well, 19:13 for a mile. Oh my! :teeth:

The scenery on the trail was special. It appears that we have a bald eagle nest site where our great blue heron rookery is and the parks have closed down the area for now. We walked up where the viewing site is and it is a nice thing to see. Mr. and Mrs. Eagle were not home just then however. I look forward to the event. This will top the sightings I’ve enjoyed thus far. WISH me luck for tomorrow’s scheduling.

Ok, Tiger Lily suggested that I come on line and record my workouts, so here goes:

today I was able to walk 30 mins. on my treadmill and yesterday I cleaned a condo for 3 hours. Does cleaning count? The place was a mess, but made a nice chunk for WDW :thumbsup2

Oh my, cleaning definitely counts!! We had a dinner party last night and I spent all day Friday cleaning. I was exhausted at the end of the day. Great job on the 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Tiff, oh, I hope you get your ressies figured out. You would think there should be cancellations before the actually race.

Amy, great pace girl! So proud you are doing the full.

Christy, good job on your workout! Strength and stretching are so important.

Welcome JEN :welcome: No such thing as a lame question. Ask away.

Lily and Cam good to hear from you both.

Well, my workout today was a long run of 8 miles. I ran about a 10:15 pace and it actually felt pretty good until I got home. I decided to try some insoles in my shoes. Bad idea! Why did I decide to do that on an 8 mile run? Brain not working correctly today. My feet were really sore, I couldn't wait to get off my shoes and socks. My toe that I lost my toenail really hurt too! Anyway, I am glad that is finished.

MelR, can't wait to hear from you after your 26.2 miler! :worship:

Colleen

I did 21.5 miles on my bike today. I had quite an adventure. Several cars that refused to share the road and move into the other lane to pass me (it was a 4 lane divided boulevard). One car even honked at me to get off the road! Geez people! My tire started going flat at 11 miles, and I refilled it with an air catridge. I made it to the edge of my neighborhood (another 9 miles) before it got too flat to ride anymore. So, I walked my bike along the path to get home. I was quite a sight. I had on those bike shoes that are impossible to walk in with the clips on the bottom. I made it a little ways down the path before I decided they had to go. So, I took off my shoes, hung one on each handlebar, and walked the mile or so home in my socks. Remarkably, my socks stayed dry all the way home until I stepped on the welcome mat at the side door, which was still soaking wet from last night's rain. Despite the drama, I still had a great time. No clouds in the sky and 50 degrees. It was a great day to be alive.

Spent the afternoon watching my DDs (5) play soccer. Walked to and from the soccer fields, which was about one mile round trip. I must admit it was more fun on the path without the bike and wearing shoes. ;)

As for age, I am 36. Gotta go put the girls to bed.

Wow! This week just started and we're already almost to page 3! Way to go everyone!

Welcome Jenn! I really love your icon, it's so cute! :)

No work out today (day off) but I cleaned my house like a madwoman, so I probably burned some good calories ;)

Will post more tomorrow! puckerup:

Btw, loved the race report...much better than Tolstoy! Thanks for sharing your experience!

Welcome Lilouisianagirl and Jen117! I just found this thread and they're so much fun and encouragement.

Lily - so glad you're doing the Minnie with us!

I just found out this morning that my mom is terminal with ovarian cancer and has about a month. We're meeting with Hospice in the morning. And I'm trying to train for my very first 5K???? Thank goodness for that - it's the only thing keeping me sane, even though I was only able to walk a mile today after getting the news. Please, guys, keep me motivated!

Oh my Goodness :( :grouphug: , that is absolutely tragic news MDM! I am so sorry to hear the news about your mother. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers. The only thing I can say is that it is important that you continue to take care of yourself, the emotions and stress can be hard on you. But focusing a few minutes a day on your running is probably a good way to help deal with the stress. But also don't get down on yourself if there are days when it's too much. Again...I'm so sorry to hear the news. ((((HUGS))))

MDM, I am so sorry to hear your news. Please do take the time as you can find it to take those steps. I went through some tough times with some major surgeries DH had. The stress was more than I realized. The walking/wogging I did really helped me more than I knew at the time. Sending prayers for you and family as you all face the upcoming time.

monte, great to see you here. Come over here for a workout. You and I could clean here and be so trained for any event. I've lots to keep us "trained."
:crazy2:
Colleen, I love my insoles. I wouldn't think of going without them any more. Hope yor feet feel better.

Heather, amazing how some drivers get so upset when a bicyclist is on the road. So sorry about your sock walk.

Off to finish wathching the Olympic closing ceremonies. Good night.

MDM - so sorry to hear about your Mom. :grouphug: and :wizard: to you and your family.

Welcome to all the new people who have visited us.

Just got back from a work trip. Did manage to get several run/walk sessions in. Not long ones, but steps none-the-less.

Wow! Day one and we're already up to 3 pages. Gab, Gab, Gab!

Terri

Most importantly: MDM Prayers and love are definitely coming your way. :flower2:

Not so important: I'm feeling so blah. Sorry I haven't posted here lately, but tomorrow will be a week since I've done ANY running or walking. My motivation has gone out the window. I've decided on a new training plan to take me from 5k to 10k and it just looks overwhelming. :scared: It's the novice program so it's completely doable for me, but I guess I have a rebellious spirit when it comes to real training. I don't like knowing I have to do a specific thing on a specific day. I feel trapped. Up until this point I've kinda gaged it by however I felt. Could anyone spare a healthy dose of PD or a swift kick in the booty to get me moving?!?!?

MDM-I wanted to stop by and say that you and your family will be in my prayers.

Good Morning Everyone!

Here is my workout from yesterday -
T.M. - 3 miles in less than 40 minutes - 12 min/mile)
5 minutes - 3.7
35 minutes - 5.0
then cool down for about 10 minutes
Stationary plank - hold for 30 seconds, 3 reps
V Twist - 15 reps, 3 sets
Push ups on stability ball - 15 reps, 3 reps
Bicep curl with resistance cable - 15 reps, 3 sets

MDM I'm sorry to hear about your Mom :grouphug:

Mel I do take rest days from running and weight training but I tend to do Pilates those days because they are working a slightly different group of muscles and I look at that as more of a stretch - I'm really trying to get better at stretch (I'm the World's worst stretcher). Any day that I really feel beat - I just rest and do nothing. :thumbsup2

Heather Please be very careful on your bike - I have a friend, whose name is also Heather, and encountered the same problems and really did end up injured thanks to someone who decided to run her off of the road.

I really don't see what people's problems are with bicycle riders :confused3

Well, I am going to get going - need to get ready for work. Have a wonderful Monday everyone!

Jodi

MouseDogMom - I am so sorry to hear about the news of your mother. Please accept my best wishes in dealing with a very, very difficult time. I agree with what some others have said here. Maybe the time it takes for you to run and exercise will be the needed stress reduction in this very difficult time. All my best.

MDM, hugs and lots of prayers for you and your family!

Take care of you!!!

:grouphug:

MDM - :grouphug: I'm so sorry.

DAve - can I join you in that heart rate marathon???

Christa - Loved the pics!

Mel - Such cute girls!!! Awesoem run!

Kevin - I've actually been in your neck of the woods for work a couple of times lately. Working with the great metropolis you're in. Pass campus and think,"Hmmm...don't run over Kevin if he's out. ;) " BTW - I thought we were what's missing in your work outs, but you're probably right. lol Have to check your report out. BTW - Depending on which route you take to teh beach, guessing that's why you're out my way in the summer, you may pass right by my house! You'll have to let me know when you're heading out, although this old lady wouldn't want to cramp your style. ;)

lillousianagal - Welcome! Glad you found us!

jen117 - I think 90% of us have been the king or queen of dumb questions at one point here. Ask away!!! Chances are several others willlearn something new too!

Cam - Awesome run! I'm so glad you're doing well!

Lily!!!!    Will your dh convince my dh I need to do the Minnie?

OK, away for the weekend. 4 on schedule for tonight.
