Wk of Feb 24 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Kristen....Congrats on the good run!! That's always such a great feeling of accomplishment. Way to go girl :).

Kevin...Best of luck on the 5K! Stay safe. :thumbsup2

Debra....If you like Pilates....believe it or not the Pilates for Dummies DVD is actually REALLY good instructional pilates (with both a beginner and intermediate level class). It's very classically taught...which means it's safe and well described. I believe it's available through NetFlix :).

Casey...welcome :goodvibes

Carrie...you guys are doing the Chi Running workshop??? You HAVE to post a review when you get back. There are quite a few opportunities to go to them around here...and I'm very curious. :)

Hi guys...was a busy workout day for me and now I sit here kind of wiped out. I tried to make it to yoga this morning but was 5 minutes late due to traffic :(. As a fellow instructor I just couldn't walk in there late...just wouldn't look good. Clients can walk in late...not instructors...just not cool. SOOOO...I went shopping  . But I did get back to the fitness center a few hours later....and did my speed work on the treadmill! Same as last time...1/2 mile warm up, 1/2 mile at 8:30 mpm, 1/2 mile at 10:00 mpm, 1/2 mile at 8:20 mpm, 1/2 mile at 9:30, 1/2 mile cool down. Overall a solid run! Then tonight I took a yogalates class then taught my fusion flow class. Now I'm exhausted. :faint:

Aloha everyone,

Deb & Kristie asked for photos, so I had to show them my stomping grounds. It was a little hazy out today, due to lack of tradewinds, but it was still in the 80's.

The photos on my link below were taken during my run after work, between 5:15 pm and 6:15 pm. Yes, it's that nice out when I run after work. People are out surfing, swimming, paddling, sunbathing, sailing, volleyball, boogie boarding, biking, snorkeling, and running.

My friend Chi (yeah, as in Chi Running), who trains with me, helped take the pictures of me. We cranked out 7 miles, dodging tourists throughout Waikiki.

Oh yeah, you're not seeing things, those are penguins here in Honolulu. They're at the Hilton Hawaiian Village resort, where we ran through on the way back.

Have a great Friday everyone! Get in your mileage.

Good Morning All

today is the day if I am going to sign up for the 1/2 in 2009

I do not want to get locked out just a little nervous to actually commit:eek:

there are a couple of local 5k's and then the Cleveland Marathon I can use to prepare me

if I push it I can do 1 mile in 14min on the TM I have never done outside training at all...I only walk btw

just needed to talk...thanks for listening...my name is Lori I approve this MSG..LOLprincess:

Good morning WISHers!

TGIF!!

It's been an WTO week.

To all of our new teammates - :welcome:

Y'all take care.

:)

Mornign all! I was actually outside yesterday adn it was close to 30 when I started, but it was cold. :confused3 Think it got damp or maybe it's 'cause i was so slow. Maybe I've been on the TM too long. Didn't go well. I was by myself becaue dh was sick. Put on teh yak trax, but they really weren't needed. AFter about a half mile, my foot hurt. Darn, YKs too tight. Then , calf hurt. WTH? Took off teh YKs and was better, but my body just wasn't into it. Almost a minute slower pace on my 50 min run than my 6 miler Saturday. Ugh. Looked at my watch a lot, but then realized it was still only about 1/10th as much as I do on the TM. Did fell bad when I cam home and dh gave me this pitiful, "You went outside." I assured him that it was a very yucky outside run, but I coudl still see it hurt him to the core to be sick on a day you coudl run outside. :guilty:

Got 3" o fanow last night adn due for 3 more. Might be Yak Traxable tomorrow, but not fun for 8 miles. Then again, anything's better than the TM.:upsidedow

I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I ran my first 10 miler yesterday! :woohoo:

I ran it in 1:49:25 - a 10:56 pace!

It was 23 degrees when I started and I was feeling a little nervous, but I started slow and by mile 2 I knew I was gonna be OK - I was feeling great! I walked twice for about a minute each to eat my Bloks and drink my water, but the rest of the time I ran. Mile 9 I felt my legs get tired, but I just kept on...

Came home and took an ice bath  and was too busy the rest of the day to really pay attention to my knees that were sore, but today I feel fine!

I'm sooo happy. Thank you WISHers for helping me get this far! :thumbsup2

Casey - Welcome, it is a great bunch here!

Debra - Glad you finally signed up for Mickey!

Woo hoo SHan!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: That 10-mile threshold is huge!!!! Way to go!

Shan, FANTASTIC!! :woohoo: What a GREAT pace!!
Carrie, Glad you were able to get outside, for your sanity's sake if nothing else. So sorry that Scott couldn't join you. Tell him to concentrate on getting better!!
:welcome: Lori! Come on back and we'll talk training stuff..I know we have at least one WISHer who does all of her training on the TM..including the LW's, so you're not alone.
Vic, enjoy your well deserved weekend!!
Jeff, Thanks for the view!!

I'm up for five miles tomorrow. It is so good to finally be able to put some training miles in. So far the foot is co-operating.:thumbsup2

Keep up the great work, team!!

Go get them Anne. Either pound out those 5 or delicately complete them, whatever is better for your foot.

And tell Robert hello for me. It would be nice to dine with him more often, so we could talk about airplanes and other guy stuff.

Craig

Kristi: Thanks for the suggestions on the Leslie Sansone DVDs. I remember you talking about them on another weekly thread, I think. And thanks for the Minnie Sessig tip, too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on your job search. How can anyone not like you--we think you're the cat's pajamas. (Although I don't know what that means, exactly.)

Kristen: Great news on having a good run! I think any time you walk away (or should that be run away) feeling you're had a good outing should be celebrated as an accomplishment. Preferably with pizza, of course! :)

Amy: A Pilates DVD. Why am I not surprised? ;) I was looking at the reviews for the Dummies DVDs on Netflix before I got all confused & decided to ask my WISH team. It seems like the whole series is pretty solid. I've never taken a Pilates class, so here is my solemn promise to YOU (and by extension, myself): Before I meet you in person, I will have taken one. Now, I might need to work my way up to it by checking out this DVD first. But I can be taught new tricks! :lmao:

Aloha Jeff: Awwww, I can't get into the photo gallery. It says "Album Not Found." Is it just me and my Mac? The pic in the post is beautiful, though, and it makes me want to tell DOOD we just have to visit!!

Lori: Did you sign up for the 1/2??? I'll be doing the Cleveland 1/2, so maybe we'll meet up. I'll be the one wearing the WISH shirt. :rotfl2: I did most of my training for the Disney weekend on a TM, btw. I was worried about that when I hit the course, but it turned out to be a non-factor for me. (Either that or I had other issues. :upsidedow)

Vic: Nasty WTO. Doesn't your job recognize you have better things to do, like hang with us?

Carrie: I'm sorry your outdoor run was so disappointing and, from the sounds of it, painful. Maybe this means your tomorrow run will be extra-easy. (Oh, how I want to believe things work out like that!)

Shan: YOU ARE SUCH A RUNNER!!!
Great pace, good fueling strategies, an ice bath, and you hit the 10 mile marker! :cheer2:

Anne: pixiedust: for your 5-miler & foot.

As for me: I went to the gym for Circuit training & XT. Fridays are relatively easy at this point, as Saturdays are LRs (relatively speaking) for me. Apparently the weather didn't get the memo that I'd already elevated my HR today, because another snowstorm has arrived. So I felt obligated to try and clear the sidewalk--even though it was, and is, still snowing!! Obviously, my efforts were Quixotic, but hey--it's all good for the challenge, right? Riiiiggggghhhht. I think I prefer Aloha Jeff's digs.

Shan - You go girl! You are definitely a runner. There's something special about hitting double digits. :cool1:

Anne - Good luck on your 5 tomorrow.

Lori - I'm with you on the commitment issue. We haven't decided either!

Jeff - I guess someone has to be lucky enough to have a view like that. Good for you! Thanks for the pix.

Amy - Can I count reading about your day as crosstraining? I get tired, so it seems it should count!

I'm in the middle of a 3-week taper before next week's half marathon. Saw the chiro yesterday for an active release treatment, and he said my ankle injury is purely muscular, not a stress fracture like I'd feared. He did scary things to my foot and calf :scared1: and told me to continue doing nothing until next weekend. It's kinda fun being told not to do anything, but I'm getting really cranky!

Jackie

Hey WISH Team new folks, Welcome! :welcome:

I am pleased to report that the staples were removed Wednesday, I was given permission to drive Thursday and can walk to my heart's content, no lifting at all, no other weights. So, I did 30 mins of gerbil track at the gym for a 1.7-ish distance and a 17:30-ish pace. It felt soooo good.
:dance3:

Today though I rested totally.

Good news Jackie and Tiger Lily! :thumbsup2

Thanks guys for all the congrats. It is just funny to me - I feel like I'm pretending to be a runner. I know, I know - I'm weird. :lmao:

Hey everyone! I know I have been MIA lately - honestly I have been a total slacker!! I took some time off after the goofy and just had a really hard time getting back into it. But I am back to 4 days a week training (slow, no long runs yet). But hey at least I am doing it. Look forward to chatting with everyone again!

Shan - you have become quite the speed demon!!

Lily - so glad to hear you are doing ok!!

Becky

Dogcatcher call- has anyone seen or heard from Honeibee?

Good job everyone with your run/walk/wogs!

jeff- I can't see the gallery either but I also have a mac. I need to scope out future routes don't you know? I've ran the Diamond Head loop and around Kapiolani Park but I'll probably mostly run out by Kaneohe where I plan on living.

:) I'm just back from a week trip to see my grandkids in California and fun with friends in Vegas (tough life). :) I went out and did a very interesting 4 miles today. I'm still trying to find my walking/running style, so I take off (to a nearby walking trail) and I think i'm trying race walking when I pass a fellow exerciser (going the opposite direction). We stop for a couple of minutes to chat and I tell him what I'm doing, he says "you were jogging"...hmmm, imagine that :lmao: I think I need to do some more reading and video watching on racewalking. I spent the rest of the miles experimenting with different walking styles; laughing at myself during most of it. :)

Shan - Wow, you are a RUNNER!

Tiger Lily - I'm glad you healing and doing well.

I started on the last page of this thread, so now I'll go back and catch up.

Have a great Weekend!

Good morning WISHers! :surfweb: I'm getting in a little disboard time before heading out to clean the snow off the car and head to the gym. Big flakes and heavy. Oh what fun. But wait! I can add that time to my weekly totals! Oooo, I'd forgotten about that.

Shan: :thumbsup2 WTG on the 10 miler!! Your time was great.

Lily: so very happy to hear you are back on track (pun intended)!! But remember to take it easy. You must be healthy by Minnie.

xterratri: yes, I've heard from Judy. She is doing well but she fell on the ice the other night and wrenched her knee. I do hope she is doing better!

Time to break out the shovel. Happy training everyone!!!

Things I learned on my 5-mile run today.....

Running on snow covered streets is challenging--feet slip, things are bumpy. Clear roads are definitely better--maybe in May!

I'm getting quite adept at "undressing" while running. First the headband comes off, then the gloves, unzip the jacket and shirt a little. I'll feel lost running in the heat of Disney in May in only a singlet and shorts--what will I remove?:rolleyes1

Based on the Minnie 15k course map, I made it nearly to Hollywood Studios.

Sports Beans are yummy! I ate orange as I ran. And it actually passed the time concetrating on chewing and not choking, while giving new meaning to the term "eat and run". (I really feel the mental need to run the entire distance without walking breaks for re-fueliing)

And last of all, the best thing I learned is that I can actually run 5 miles without stopping, or dying. WOOHOO!

Becky

Hi and Welcome back, Becky! I don't know if you remember me or not. I was waiting around in the corral with you and your friend for the half. I was asking about your Garmin since I had a Nike Plus. I finally got a Garmin! Anyway, fun to be able to put a face with a name and glad you're back at it. I'm still slow. :)

Hey all! Well, my first shift volunteering for the Little Rock marathon was so much fun. I was in the full marathon packet pickup area for 8 hours! I got to catch up with some old friends and made some new ones--seems I insuated to a group of guys from Illinois that I would be giving out massages after they finished. I kindly directed them over to the finish area map and pointed out the massage tent, which of course, I won't be staffing!:rotfl:

I really hope that everyone, at least once, will volunteer for an event of some kind. I read an article in "Running Times" this month that suggested that for every 3 races run you should volunteer for 1. If that is the case, I definitely need to volunteer more. And the free goodies aren't bad either!

No running since Wed. for me. Had 3 good workouts last week and then LTO. Does cheering for thousands of runners/walkers count toward XT??? If so, than I'm gonna have a huge workout tomorrow! Okay, Scott just got home; need to jet!
