Wk of Feb 24 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi everyone

Just a quick post to catch up on the weekly thread!

Angie...OMG...sending some PD to your DH that his back flare-up is short lived. He must be so bummed about the race :(. That really stinks...and I know the pain is really brutal too. I agree with Carrie...you guys should check out the Chi Running book. I'm making my way through it right now and hoping it will help resolve my linger hip issues. The book makes a TON of sense :).

Debra...SO glad to hear your knee is feeling better and that you had a good run today. GREAT news!!!

Stacie..WTG with the workouts girl...9 miles on the bike is awesome XT!

Liz..more snow? Geesh..I hope it's not coming our way again. I'm SOOOO over winter. :sunny:

Craig: Rad picture. Thanks for sharing it :). I guess it's not so much of a leap from a parrot head to a surfer ;).

Martha...can't wait to hear the story...you'll be at the Minnie right? LOL!

OK guys...I know I missed a bunch of you...but my brain isn't functioning tonight so I'm so sorry. Hope everyone else is doing great! :goodvibes

As for me....As Betsy pointed out on the tri thread....I did a mini-duathlon today :). I did 20 on the treadie...then ran down and took an hour spin class...then went back to the treadie for a quicker paced 20 minutes. managed to work the heaviness out of my legs...but it took a good 1/2 mile to do so. Tonight I tried a (and I quote) Super Advanced Reformer on the Mat Pilates video. And....drumroll....I found the limit to my core strength :rotfl: . It was more cirque de soleil than pilates IMO....and my body just wasn't cooperating. Anyway...though I'd share. It would have been HILARIOUS to see...fortunately I was alone ;).

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

GOOD EVENING TEAM

 YEAH I CAN POST FROM HOME AGAIN!!!!!!

Yes DH is very bummed, which around here means "cranky". For everyone who suggested Chi Running, as you guys had been talking about the book on threads weeks back I kept thinking that it sounded like it would be really good for us.

DH did go to Chiropractor today. One thing about his back issues is before the surgery last year, for years anytime he had a back issue he would go to Chiro for a few sessions and then be fine. So Chiro told him today, we will try a couple of sessions but if that does not help you are going back for MRI.

So I got up this am at 4:45 and went to gym :thumbsup2 and did Bodypump(weights) :yay: - some of you know I AM NOT!!!!! MORNING PERSON.

So I'm thinking I can SOOOO get up and run tomorrow, wrong!!!!! It is going to be 35 degrees here in am, DO YOU KNOW HOW COLD THAT IS FOR A FL GIRL????? :beach: HOW DO YOU PEOPLE UP NORTH DO IT? It literally hurts my chest trying to breathe and run in that.

I am having such a hard time fitting all the training in, hence the 4:45 am morning.

BTW: Shan - the sleepover was a nightmare,:scared1: but thanks for asking and I did SURVIVE. :lmao:

OK so I am off for the evening.

Angie - lots of  for Bobby.

Christa - gald to hear your mom is doing well with treatments! More

Krista
- I sent out one resume! :rotfl: It took me 4 hours to get it together. This job thing is exhausting. And do not go the couch potato route that I went! You will regret it later, I promise. (as long as you can still exercise safely of course). Can't help with the sleeping thing as I am a side sleeper anyway. I just remember near the end not being able to get out of bed unless I literally rolled off the side! :lmao: The belly was nice a resting place for a bowl of ice cream though. :thumbsup2

I am feeling better and got in an hour of fitness yoga. I am really liking it. You don't get all crazy sweaty like you do during cardio, and you still feel it the next day. Besides, I bought a mat, bag and 2 new yoga-type outfits, so I have to go, right? ;)

Sorry I missed alot of people - have to get to bed!

Angie

Best of luck to Bobby and you with this setback. I know I'd be crabby too.

Kristi

Good luck with the search. I hope you land precisely what you are looking for.

Craig

Krista...one of the first things I wanted to do after both kids was born was sleep on my stomach! I learned to sleep on my side after awhile. I was able to get by with propping up my left leg so I wasn't flat on my stomach but couldn't even do that in the last trimester. If you're up for it, we'd love to see you guys. We're looking at July for vacation so not sure how you'll be feeling then.

Angie...totally agree...I feel like such a wuss complaining about these temps when I see what everyone here has to deal with. But dude, it's cold tonight! Sorry to hear about Bobby's back :wizard:

Just wanted to mention...Betsy has started up a really cool triathlon thread for those that are so inclined to multisport. I'm thinking about some tri or duathlon action since I don't really know anymore how much of this pounding my foot's gonna tolerate.

Lots of new people joining the miles/minutes game...welcome to all our new folks!

Mel--Maybe we can have a birthday celebration in July; you're 40th and my 30th!!! :) Oh, and where does your grandpa have his farm? I went to college about an hour north of Columbus in a large farming community and very close to Amish country. I wonder if he lives near my alma mater.

Angie--:wizard: for Bobby's back!

I better get off here and head to bed, I'm hoping if I stay up until I can't keep my eyes open that I'll be so tired that I won't notice that I'm sleeping on my side. Good night, everyone!

Krista

Morning all. Hope all is well. I've been super busy--seems like the work more than doubles with DH out of town. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers re:Scott's grandmother. The funeral is today (he went to Cleveland, I stayed home with the kids), and then he'll be home on Saturday. I've managed 3 really good workouts this week. Gonna try for a LR outside (gasp) on Saturday. I think the last outside run I've done was at disney.

Angie--PD for Bobby's back! Sure hope that it's nothing serious!:wizard:

(a very GM/corporate thing)
I'm on the west side now, but I grew up not too far from the proving grounds. Love seeing teh pic at Test Track. We'll have to see if we can go to the expo at a time that wil coincide with the 10K. Let me know if you sign up! Grrrr....to teh guy in the pool

Debra - Woo hoo on teh knee. FYI, I never say ice baths, I say cold tubs. I am a whimp! ;-) BTW, my first cold tubs happened not too long after I finally got the whirlpool tub I had wanted my whole life. That was depressing!

Leana - Glad to hear you're finally feeling better. DOn't push too hard, though. You're gonna' need time to get back to normal again.

Amy - Just eradign about all you do makes me so tiered. Lol about more Cirque than pilates. I think Crique qould still eb too refined for what I'm sure I'd look like. :p

Angie - Forgive me. I live fro 35 degree days. How do I do it? I give up teh ability to be able to run when it's over 65. ;) Yeah, you can't have it all. :upsidedow Hope teh chiro helps. Let us know when you start reading CHiRunning. I'll try to hurry so you don't catch up to me. :rotfl: It does have great stuf fand makes sense, just can't read too much at a time.

Krista - Have you tried one of those long pillow things that are supposed to help? Won't get you on your stomach, but might get you mnore comforatble. :confused3 OK, I know you look 18, but I was sure you were at least in your 30s. Ugh, now I feel old. :sad2:

Kristi - :rotfl: Yoga, another free sport, except the mat and the clothes and the class fees.... I figured I had planty of clothes. Of course, my runnign stuff is mostly baggy and fall teh wrong way when upside down. Need an addition for my fitness wear. BTW, did you get my e-mail? It was big, so don't knwo if it went through.

Mel - Want to read CHiRunnign with us? Supposed to get rid of all that pounding. You could fly up and do the workshop with us, stay 'til the next week an dthen do martian. :teeth: Shhh..don't tell but Scott wants to do a tri adn if I can figure out how to swim on top of th water, I might try too.

I rested last night. My body is still draggging a bit, but I think it's just trying to get out of another TM workout. ;)

Oh, I thought of things this weekend adn wanted to see if tehy count for miles competition:

1. Power Thunderstick usage at teh hockey game.
2. Rocking a baby on you hip as hard as you can to keep them from crying so mom won't take him away.
3. BIL's ower abby burping. My gosh, how hard can you whack a child before it hurts? :scared1: My arms were tired.

Any minutes count Dave? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good morning WISHers. I don't get over here as often as I'd like. I was thinking last night about how wonderful some of our WISH members are and how good it feels to belong.

Anne is such a joy to be around. To her no one is a stranger, just a friend you haven't met yet. She is love on two feet.

Valentine and her team out there on the marathon route cheering and handing out goodies was such a lift. I had to finish I couldn't let them down.

It was so cool to get those backpacks form John and Karen. Erica still uses hers for her dailey purse, screw the designer stuff, the WISH pack means way more to her.

I could spend all day on this since there are just so many wonderful people on WISH. To everyone of my WISH team mates, thank you, y'all are the best.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Evening all. After a pretty long day, I am getting ready to strap on the shoes and get a couple of miles in before hitting the sack for the evening. We have our monthly 5k around the Embassy compound tomorrow morning - this race has become a good milestone of the passing months and one that I look forward to. Usually a pretty good turnout for the International Zone - around 350 on average. And, more importantly, they give out free t-shirts as well! This will be my 10th t-shirt. They are in Iraqi sizes, so I get the largest shirt available and send them back home for the kids.

Congrats to my wife who called this evening to tell me of her good run for the day - way to go, honey! I love how a good run can make quite a few problems and worries disappear.

Time to hit the perimeter road - nice evening in the low 60s with no wind.

Hi! I'm new here and hope it's okay to jump in. I found this forum while doing a search online for information on the Disneyland Half in Aug. My name is Casey, I live in Las Vegas, I'm a stay at home mom to two kids - a 5 year old and an 8 month old. I started running 4 years ago. I have done many 5 and 10K's but never a half.(I just did my fastest yet 5K race last weekend) I am currently following the beginner half training schedule on Cool Running. Right now I'm doing an average of running 20 miles a week. I reallllly want to do the Disneyland half and will probably be signing up very soon! I've been reading over threads and you all have already helped answer so many questions I've had. :)

Welcome Casey!:cheer2: :cheer2:

You have definitely found a great place for info and support. A lot of WISHers have done DL before, and there's going to be a number more going this year. There's a thread about it, if I was more techno-savvy I'd find it and put in the link, but just keep your eye out and you will see it.

BTW, there are also going to be some of us heading to LV for the half in the beginning of December. Please consider joining us, we are going to have a blast!:cool1:

Caseydilla - Welcome! You are in the right place....WTG on the 5k PR! That is so cool. You will do great on the 1/2 didtance so not worries.

Z - Hope you enjoy your monthly 5k.

Angie - is your DH back hurt?

Stephanie - :wizard: :wizard: to your family.

I really cannot keep up with everything......sorry!

Swam...swum...swimmed...however you say it....today and hope to ride the bike..on the trainer after work. It is COLD here and I am a wimp when it comes to riding my bike in the cold.

AAAAHHHH! Gotta go. Have a client in 15 min....yes I am at work on a break surfing the web.....:goodvibes

Welcome, Casey!

The DL 1/2 is great fun...I've done it the last 2 years. Not going back this year, though, due to schedule conflicts.
The middle part of the course is sortof meh, but it's a fun event. Will cross my fingers for you that last year's heat really was a fluke. The weather was perfect in 2006.

Gatorphipps...I hear ya...I've been on the trainer the last few days, too, because it got cold and windy here. ugh. I've seen people out riding in full tights, and jackets, and...ummm..no. :confused3

z - That means only 3 or 4 T's 'til you come home, right????:thumbsup2 Have fun racing!

Casey - Welcome! We love it when people just jump in!!!!

Casey: :welcome: Good luck with the training. You'll do great!

Z: good luck on the race! Congrats to your DW on her good run too!

Woke up to snow this morning. I was NOT expecting it. Had to wipe off the car before heading out to meet my trainer. Can it be spring now?

Time to fire up the stove for dinner. TTYS!!

Leana: I'm sorry your 4-miler was ugly, but yes! You got 'er done.

Amy: Okay, so there's your next career move. Cirque de Soleil needs you to audition! :woohoo: for your mini-duathlon! I love that you're always mixing it up.

Angie: Yea for posting at home again! And a bigger yea for DH's visit with the doctor. It doesn't sound like great news, but at least there's some plans and hope for progress. I don't think I've seen 4:45 a.m. since the marathon weekend--and I haven't missed it. Kudos!

Kristi: Strangely enough, I do find buying the gear and outfits makes me more inclined to go to yoga. Maybe I'm trying to earn my class cred? I'm glad you're enjoying the class and its less-sweaty side benefits. Keep sending those resumes out--I empathize with your search! :thumbsup2

Stephanie:  for keeping all those household balls in the air while Scott is out of town; your family has my sympathies. I'm glad you're taking some time for yourself and are rocking your workouts.

Carrie: I love your brainstorming for ways to earn extra miles/minutes? Can you figure out a way to make shivering in 35-degree days (which I think is warm, but hey!) and cold baths count? Btw, I would have been despondent over the whirlpool/cold bath moment. Life can be cruel.

Z: Good luck with your monthly 5K around the Embassy. That turnout sounds fabulous, and I'm glad the runs work for you as milestones.

Casey: Welcome--we're sooo glad you jumped in. The water's fine, isn't it? Doing the DL 1/2 sounds like a lot of fun, and what incentive to move to the 1/2 distance! I hope you get to hook up with other WISHers.
Congrats on your 5K PR, btw.

Christa: WTG on your swimming (see how cleverly I dodged that one? ;) ) and I hope your weather warms up just for you and in time for your bike ride!

Martha: I second your request. Can it be spring now? Geez, I feel like such a wimp, but I really want to be a FL gal like Angie.

As for me: No real news as it was a light day. I am looking for suggestions on workout DVDs, though. It occurred to me last night that I have a Netflix account where I can circulate through programs without having to keep them, thus freeing up storage space & alleviate boredom. Any and all suggestions are welcome; I'm pretty democratic in that way.

ETA: Oh, yeah. DOOD and I finally registered for the 2009 WDW Marathon. We wanted to save that $15 increased fee by getting signed up before March. We'd been putting off registering, though, to try & keep the budget balanced. But we're officially in. And DOOD even casually mentioned the ToT event. He's coming over to the dark side! :woo hoo:

Debra - I am a big fan of the Leslie Sansone DVDs. Even though it is walking in front of your tv, it is different: side steps, kicks, knee lifts and lots of upper body work while walking with a stretchie band. I also like her walk & Jog DVD. I also have a couple Minna Lessig videos and like them as well for toning.

Martha - I am with you on the snow - it's for the birds! I was not expecting that this morning either as I left for work. The plows hadn't been out much either when I left, so I was late for work.

Thanks for all the well-wishes on the job search, guys! :goodvibes
Now, if I would just send out more than one resume! :rotfl:
The good thing is that I do have a job in the meantime. So, I am not going to be over the top nervous on a job interview thinking it's do or die. If they don't like me, they don't like me. Simple as that. I still have lovely Ch 7! Oh lucky me. :sad2: (and yes, that was hugely sarcastic)

Kristen: Ice cream carbo-loading. Now that's a program I can really see myself following to a "T." Thanks for the suggestion. :rotfl:
Glad I could be of help!!

Congrats to my wife who called this evening to tell me of her good run for the day - way to go, honey! Z
Thanks for your support! Sorry we had to cut our phone call short. Hope your 5K goes well! Keep your head down! :upsidedow
Hi! I'm new here and hope it's okay to jump in. :)
Welcome, Casey! :flower3:
z - That means only 3 or 4 T's 'til you come home, right????:thumbsup2 Have fun racing!
Actually it's TWO!! But who's counting...;)
Z[/B]: good luck on the race! Congrats to your DW on her good run too!
I'm the DW -- thanks!!

As Kevin shared, I did have a good run today. The first in about two years! Just kidding. Or am I?? :rolleyes1 I was actually able to run for sustained amounts of time. Nothing to brag about but quite an accomplishment for me. My reward? Pizza for dinner!

Happy training!
Kristen
