Wk of Feb 24 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Amy - I stopped ChiRUnning where it envolved actually doing stuff, as that was not possible while in my bed. ;) DH says I should just read through anyway adn then do teh exercises. {Probably teh only way fo rme. I'm signing up for a workshop at teh end og March, though. SO, I will at least have to be done reading by then!

Terri - Hope teh rest does you good. You deserve it!\\Kristi - SO sorry you aren't feeling well! Hope you get better soon!

Jeff - Your girls are to ocute! With all that $$$ tehy are spendign, though, you chould charge more fro driving them to the events. ;)

Stacie - Youa re already ahead of wher I was teh first year I trainined for teh full. You will be fine!

Z famly - :goodvibes :grouphug: Don't know how you do it.

Allyson - WOo hoo! Anythign that makes you smile is awesome!

Julie - DOn't worry about keeping up. It is overwhelming at first. Hope teh new shoes work. Be careful not to ramp up too hard. Overdoing it too soon is the worst thing in teh world for you. SLow and steady is really best for teh first time.

Craig - You need to upload teh pic to teh web. Photobucket.com is free and very easy to use. Once you have your pic uploaded tehre, coly teh line below the pic that atarts with [img.... and paste it in your post where you want your pic.

I did get outside f r6 this weekend anf am hoping to beat teh rain/snow fro my 60 min tonight. My 6-miler made em quite happy. Best pace I've had since probably Minnie training last year. Hada yucky mile 3, but was prooud of myself fo over-coming that and kicking it up again.

Hi everyone! I'm also going to try to be more involved in posting than just reading, so quick update from me.

Flu bug/other sickness seems to be gone :cool1: , so now back to training for the Minnie.

Lynne, thanks for the hats/visors - sent pymt to you this morning.

Jeff - love the pics - your dd's are adorable, and I sooooo want to be in Hawaii now - we're expecting more snow/sleet tonight into tomorrow. YUCK!!!

Lilly - Glad you are feeling better and starting to get back into the groove slowly! Can't wait to meet ya at Minnie!

Team Ohana - ditto what Carrie said, from WW's - :grouphug:

Good training everyone!

Hi WISH team! :wave2: Just taking a quick lunch break. I was back at the gym this morning. I did 50 minutes on the TM. Tomorrow is XT. I can't believe that February is almost over! Where is this year going? Good luck to everyone training today. :thumbsup2

Hi everybody:wave: I just popped in to check and see what's going on. It is hard to keep up.
Julie & Rhonda: :welcome:
Stacie: WTG signing up for the half:cheer2:
Jeff: Absolutely precious girls.
Lynne: Surfers? Oh my. My boys just asked me when they can go tubing in the lake. Currently, there is ice on the lake---it'll be awhile. They just shrug their shoulders and act like I'm the crazy one.:rolleyes2

Did anyone else notice, in the pics of Jeff's girls, that Paula Creamer has an awesome rhinestone pirate belt on? Having all boys, I notice the cute little fashion things.:) When did golf become so fashionable? I love the added bling.
Way to keep moving everyone. I'm off to the TM since it's naptime for the little guy.

Okay Carrie, here is a try.

Well how about that? I can be taught. Thanks. Here is one of my favorite pictures of all time. It was taken in January of 2006, on the surf break just below Diamond Head. Honest, it's not a photoshop fake, it is me on a board.

Yeah,. right, Craig. You pretend you can't even post a pic in hopes we'll all think you can't photoshop either. LIkely story. ;) ;)

Very cool pic Craig! COngrats on posting it too. :thumbsup2

I had an eye opener today! (This is especially for those in the Atlanta area.)

DH and I went out to Sope Creek this morning. (Ran 4 miles, decent pace for me - 10:32, although my legs felt like lead! :crazy2: )

Sooo, after we were done we were driving back home on Columns Drive and this lady in front of us was flying (The speed limit is like 25 there?), ran over the curb knocking out a fire hydrant and a massive brick mailbox. Her car flew up in the air! Airbag went off and everything. We pulled over and I ran over to her as she was getting out and told her to sit down.

The homeowner then comes out screaming at DH (He thought he ran into his mailbox.), but then we told him it was the woman. She spoke little English and I felt bad for her, this guy was a real jerk. (Regardless, she shouldn't have been speeding.)

We waited for the police and he told us we could go.

Now Columns Drive has a bike path on both sides and gets alot of runners and bikers. I was thinking about going there this week for my 10 miler. But, now... Don't think so! The neighbor said their mailbox has been knocked over 5 times since they've lived there and his wife said it freaks her out to see all these runners pushing their baby joggers. Matter of fact, a guy had just run past that spot and had turned around to come see if anyone needed help.

Anyway, it opened my eyes! Guess I'll stick to my regular route this week.

Be careful out there WISHers! :grouphug:

Lily: It's great to get more news of your recovery. I bet you can't wait until Wednesday! Tell him that you're holding him to his statements about the Minnie, or that he's doing it for you! :rotfl2:

Terri: Take care of that back! Oh, and enjoy spring break. Can you believe how quickly it has gotten to be that time of year?

Amy: I mean to congratulate you on the the hilly run, not even for finishing it but for starting it. Now, that's dedication. I hope your DD is feeling better & the household is healthy!

Ms. Duckie: :woohoo: on the 7.5 & for taking a well-deserved rest day. As they say in those old Virginia Slims ads, you've come a long way, baby! (Note: this is not product placement nor an endorsement of smoking.)
Leashes & DH...hmm. Any stories you'd like to pass along?

I was fine with Ratatouille getting the Oscar--right now, Brad Bird can do no wrong and he represents hope for Hollywood mainstream animation, so the win was no surprise. I just preferred Persepolis (although, interestingly, I'm cool on the graphic novel and the film's narrative--too much "me" in the memoir for my tastes).

Rhonda: I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and will be on the road again soon. Enjoy your grandparents' birthdays!

Jen: Five miles on an indoor track--that's wonderful! I love your XT plan for the quilting retreat, which sound like a lot of fun for you and your mom. And I can't imagine an afternoon of movie-going with active kids, let alone a full day. DOOD had enough to handle with me and I with him, and we're presumably mature adults.

Kristen: Hi, and I hope your week is successful, too! You and KZ are sweet.

Kristi: Sounds like self-confidence to me! I do hope you're feeling better and that a little rest was all you needed. Take care of yourself.

Stacie: It sounds like a good run for you, although I hope there's not much more numbness in your foot future. And yea! :cool1: for registering for the 1/2!

Allyson: Congrats on completing Week 2 of C25K, and in nippy weather! :thumbsup2

Carrie: You'll definitely need to keep us updated as to your experience with the Chi Running workshop. I hope it will be useful & entertaining. (That's my image of it, anyway.) WTG with your 6-miler's pace, too.

Stacey: I'm glad you're feeling better. I bet you're looking forward to resuming training for the Minnie--not to mention doing the Minnie.

TXBelle: Great job with the TM & XT. I know, February is just flying by. Good thing we have that extra day this year, huh?

Craig: That is an awesome photo op, dude! You ride those waves and hang loose.

Shan: OMG--that must have been a scary sight to see, especially knowing the mailbox might have just as easily been a runner or a baby stroller. I never understand why drivers have to go so fast that they endanger themselves, let alone others.

As for me: I decided to add another XT day into my schedule as my legs & back are still sore from Saturday's movie marathon. In fact, I feel worse today than yesterday. I tried a long warm-up and extra-slow pace, but after a little over a mile my body clearly let me know it wasn't happy. So tonight I'll be slathered in Icy Hot, which DOOD swears to me doesn't smell institutional. When I smelled it, though, I thought, "Oh yeah? Then what's my chances for getting some quality time with you when I'm wearing this?"

How scarry! Shan...you be careful too! This is 1 of the many reasons NOT to run with earphones in! Always be aware of EVERYTHING going on around you....b/c drivers normally are not!

Craig - DUDE! You are a surfer! How cool.

Lily - So glad you are up and about! What are you talking about not putting in any miles? I saw you did 15...I know for a fact that included running...maybe some bikeing...and you swam a mile.:beach: Glad you are doing better!

I am not doing a great job keeping up...sorry! My life is just crazy right now. Someone asked how my mom was doing.....JIC someone is new, she is now going through treatments for endametral cancer (SP?). She took her 2nd chemo treatment on Tuesday (of last week). She is actually doing well. She is a bit tired, but able to do everything she normally does. She is a strong lady!:goodvibes

We're back from WDW, but I'm not accomplishing anything tonight. I hurt my back last night, get this, bending over to fill the dishwasher with Cascade. One of my patients today told me that sounded lame so we tried to come up with a better story. I'm tied between sky diving accident and alligator wrestling :thumbsup2

DH and I ran from OKW to Cirque on Sat morning and I rode my bike yesterday while DD15 powerwalked 4 miles for her Minnie training. It was her first time trying walking only...she did the 4 in 55 min and didn't have any trouble with her knees!

Vic...thanks for spinning the thread this week!

Craig...righteous surfin' dude!

Lynne...surfers here are a bad sign. Since the Gulf is generally flat we don't see many surfers unless there's a hurricane offshore :scared1:

Rhonda...great to see you around here again! How's the Minnie training going?

Since we didn't get to do our 10th anniversary trip last year and John Bingham was nice enough to send us a discount coupon, DH and I just signed up for the RnR half in Virginia Beach over Labor Day weekend. Now to find some cheap airfare!

Oh and if anyone has any suggestions on what to do in Ohio, we're thinking about heading that way for vacation. My grandfather lives on a farm near Columbus and we'd like to visit there, Cedar Point and maybe Cuyahoga National (State??) Park.

WOW. This is the route Randy runs every weekend. (I doubt he will change so....)

Jeff. Love the picture. And your daughters are so cute. (Plus until I moved to Atlanta I was a big Girl Scout Volunteer so I loved the T shirt!)

Mel Hope you had a great trip to Disney

I got my time back on the race I did this weekend and I was the 331st female out of 353:rotfl2: My avg according to them was 12.02 and personally I am very happy. (Plus I wasn't dead last!)

I had to really force myself to go to my Strech and Strength class last night, but I knew I couldn't post on here today if I hadn't done it! So.........

It's raining HARD here this morning. The storms are moving through at a FAST clip (something like 65 MPH!) Hope everyone in Georgia stays safe!

Have a good day!

Morning teammates. Sorry I've been MIA. DH's grandmother passed away this weekend, so we've been dealing with that. Did get a great workout in yesterday, shooting for another this morning.

I'm really excited about this weekend, though. I'm going to my first race, not as a participant, but as a volunteer. The Little Rock half/full marathons are on Sunday. I'm volunteering 8 hrs. at the expo on Friday, and then all morning sunday at the finish line. I do have to say, however, that I'm a tad jealous not to be out there running. Our little race must have gotten some great press last year, b/c participation is up almost 100% from last year--expecting almost 9000 participants in the half/full/relay, up from 5000 last year! I think the HUGE finisher's medal and the generous time allowance is a great draw--that and our gracious southern hospitality!

Craig--Dude! That pic is awesome! Never got up the nerve to try surfing when in Hawaii--after freaking out scuba diving there (something about the huge eel), the ocean was much prettier to look at from the beach;)

Okay, need to get DD ready for school. Have a great Tuesday all

That storm was fast and MEAN. The roads all around our house are closed because of downed trees. I think the entire storm lasted 5 minutes and yet it has caused major damage up here! No problems at my house except the leaky window that the builder is scheduled to fix this morning.

Yikes!

I had to stop running a couple of my favorite routes because of close calls with cars. Mostly it was as they were pulling out of parking lots or side streets. Never assume they see you.
The first year time I was training for a marathon my legs would get so tired and achey that I would sometimes fantacise about getting gently bumped by a car. It was a perfect excuse to back out of the marathon and pain meds to boot. I don't feel that way anymore, thankfully. I was just pushing my body too hard too fast back then. Nowadays, my legs seldom ache while I am running until I pass 16 miles.

Wow Shan...That is scarry! OMG!

Mel and Jeff...Glad you guys had a good time at WDW! Mel, I hope your back is feeling better today!

Stephanie...Sorry to hear about your DH's gmom's passing. Hope you have fun volunteering!

For me... I did 9 miles on the stationary bike last night... that was out it...nothing too terribly exciting.

Hope all has a great day!
Stacie

Debra - GOod for you for listening to your body! SOunds like you coudl use a cold tub, though! ;)

Cecelia - Yeah, I've had those "just hit me" kind of days. I'd have more if there was a cahnce to get hit on a TM. :-p Hope your world gets cleaned up soon!

CHrista - :wizard: for your mom. It's still not an easy journey, but I'm glad she's strong. That makes a world of difference!

Mel - Welcome back! KNowign that you don't like gators bigger than 4', I'd go with teh sky diving thing. lol. SOmeoen asked my dad if he got hurt isn Aspen. lol. He's going witht hat now.

Steph - SO sorry about Scott's grandma. That's hard. Glad you are lookign forward to this weekend, though!

Carol - COngrats! That sounds liek a great pace to me!

Shan - Very scary. How far are you rfom teh SIlver Comet?

Stacie - You go your workout in. Excitement or not, that's a good hting!

I did 50 min on teh TM. We changed our schedules a couple times, so I accidentially started 60 min runs last week. 2 weeks early. :headache: The only thign that's keeping dh from killing me is that doing 50 on teh TM last night sounded like we were gettign a break. ;)

Ya, that storm was bad this morning! Our neighborhood is trashed! (Literally - it is trash morning and everyone's trash cans were tipped over. YUCK! I just got back in from my run and afterward picked up all the wet trash from our yard.)

Yes, I ran in the rain. I know I looked crazy, but after I get off here I've got quite a busy day. You gotta run when you can find the time, right? DH just looked at me and said - now that is dedication. :lmao: Course, my legs still felt like they weigh a ton. I guess all these extra miles is just new to me...

Carrie, the Silver Comet is quite a drive for me. Course, Columns and Sope Creek isn't all that close, either. I have no places to run around me! Supposedly, Cobb has approved and allocated funds for a new trail right by our house! After all is said and done it will be quite a long trail!

Here's a link for anyone interested -

anyone know of any races near Chandler AZ? I'm not so good on geography, and dont know what towns/cities are close by...

thanks!

Good morning!

Stephanie -- sorry to hear about your DH's grandmother. Hugs to your family.

Craig -- your picture surfing reminded me of how I looked skiing a few weeks ago. <shudder> Hope you managed to stay on your feet more than I did! :scared1:

Rhonda -- a belated wecome from another newbie!

I'm supposed to run today but I'm a little under the weather. I really need to run since I had ice cream at 9pm last night. Hey! I was carbo-loading! :rolleyes1
