Wk of Feb 17th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Great run, Matt!! Those are certainly the memorable training days, aren't they? the unique days, the ones that kick your booty...

Wow Matt!
That is not the kind of run I want to do during taper! I hope your shins heal quickly. Very quickly actually. Enjoy the rest of your taper knowing that the marathon will seem flat after that run!

Cecilia

A belated thank you to all those who have welcomed me to the WISH familly! :grouphug:

I made it to the gym on Monday and did 3 miles. I ran nearly 2 miles of it but not consecutively. I felt like I have a very long way to go but I was happy to have made the attempt. I haven't honestly run -- I mean really run, not just walk with a slight jog thrown in here and there -- in over a year. One step forward...

I have plans to hit the gym today. I figured I should post it so you all can hold me accountable!!

Happy training!

Kristen

Liz - Believe it or not, but we avoid the Dells as much as possible during "the season". Forgive me for saying this, but it's a tourist trap!! :rotfl2: There are so many Lodge hotels in Wisconsin that have indoor waterparks, so we get our fill of that here. Our favorite campground for the kids is Jellystone in Fremont. There are a couple of other campgrounds we really enjoy also, most in the south central Wisconsin area. With gas prices, we hate to drive too far because we camp a lot in the summer. We try to stay around 2 hours away.

Oh I certainly know about the tourist trap that is the Dells. We actually stopped going there because it's was becoming too crazy. The only reason we're going at all is that this is the spring motorcycle group ride and it's early enough in May to avoid the big crowds. It's about a 3 hour drive for us. Yeah with gas prices, this summer's trips will be much closer to home.

Greetings -

I did three miles on the TM this morning. I didn't want to get up at 4:15am, since I had an eclipse hangover. Stayed up WAY too late, but it sure was cool. :cool2:

Krista - Oh that would be just plain mean! :scared: Don't scare poor little Judith Anne like that. Have you actually SEEN pictures of me? No no no.

Kristi - My mom was a cafeteria lady so she had the same schedule we did. Of course, this was nothing but mortifiyingly embarrassing for me at first. Until all my friends found out that we could have all the ice cream sandwiches we wanted! :thumbsup2 I'll remember your offer for next January. Although, wait, Charlie will be going Goofy so he will be going with me. OK, maybe we can go volunteering on Sunday together. That didn't make me so nervous, but, well, as you know, I didn't exactly read my instructions and did a lap around WWoS at 3am. Not too bright of me. So, ummm, anything you want to tell me in an email???? popcorn::

Martha - Awww, shucks, thank you mam. Doing the races doesn't scare me nearly as much as coming back here after a year of training and telling you guys I chickened out.

Debra - Oh thank you. :goodvibes I am probably more amazed than proud. OMG how exciting! Yeah, when I turn 40 I want to go to WDW too! :lmao:

Angie - Angie! :woohoo: Angie! :woohoo: Angie! :woohoo: YAY! You go girl! YAY!!

OriginalBill
- Oh poor Timmy. Oh that poor tiny thing. Let's hope the meds kick right in for him. And don't your worry about Charlie. He ain't suffering. ;)

Horsetamer Panda - No, no, I know nothing at all about working for the government. I work in big business. Where everything gets...I can't say it. It would come out like this **********. :rolleyes1

Matt - OMG Matt! You make me laugh! :lmao: Oh my goodness you are funny. Matt, let me just say, it made me nervous even FLYING over Death Valley. You are most definitely THE man! Holy cow am I impressed!!! I'm sorry to hear about your shins, though.

Hello, team!!!!!! So I just signed up for the half marathon, I was going to wait until the last minute, I don't think you can get closer to last minute than 85% full! I just hope I am able to bounce back as quickly as I think I'm going to be able to. I may be in for a rude awakening!! Yesterday was a rest day for me, I'm supposed to go to Gold's tonight and bike, but it's supposed to start snowing around 1:00 and snow through the night, so I don't know if I'll make it or just head home and walk 3 miles on the TM.

Angie--So sorry about the marina project, I know you were really looking forward to that. Nice job getting your miles in, but please, please, please take it easy!!

Martha--You must have a lot of self-discipline to get your work-outs in even though your trainer is on vacation. How is your IT band doing? I know it took me until March before my IT band was completely healed after the marathon last year. It still bothers me from time to time when it's cold out or if I'm running hills. This is very belated but, I take my hat off to you for finishing the marathon with a great time, I know first hand the pain you were in, congrats again!

TX Ang--YAY on getting clearance to run again!!!! :yay: :yay: Is 6 weeks the norm for waiting to start running again? Does that include walking or just running? I'm glad everything is going so great with little Sean.

Kira--Your trip to NYC sounds like it was lots of fun. We're supposed to go to NYC in April (still trying to talk Stephen into it :rolleyes1 ), I'm excited because I have never been there.

Debra--Don't you think my Toddler Terrible Towel will look awesome in the baby's room?? ;) I swear that's not why I picked black and yellow honey bees. :) Congrats on your surprise Disney trip, that sounds so exciting! I wanted to go to WDW for my 30th birthday this year, but since my birthday is 3 weeks before my due date, I don't think that's going to happen!

Bill--I am so glad the doctor finally figured out what was wrong with Timmy! That must be a huge relief. Stephen plans on building shelves in the basement for storage, so between that and putting the baby furniture together, his tools will get quite the workout. ;)

Kristi--Good luck on the job search! Don't sweat missing yoga last night, I've found if you really have no energy to get a work-out in, that's just your body telling you that you need a rest.

Matt--That sounds like quite the run! Wow! I hope you did something extra nice for Cheryl for getting up so early for you. :)

Kristen--Congrats on your 3 mile run! Just put one foot in front of the other and try not to look at the long term too much. You just accomplished something you haven't done in over a year, that is HUGE! :cheer2:

I hope everyone who goes to see The Spirit of the Marathon tonight enjoys it, it's a great movie. Take your tissues! Oh, and I know this was on another thread, but about eating popcorn while watching the movie, I say go for it! I had a Cinnabon pretzel and blue raspberry slushie. Worth the calories! :thumbsup2

Krista

Hey all. Just back from a great workout at the gym. Cold and raining/icing this morning, so I hit the treadmill. Got in 4.12 miles in 40:00 (including 5 min warm-up and 5 min cool down) Felt great! Finally getting back to where I want to be about a month post illness.

Angie-Great to hear that your run was so great. But like Craig said, please take care of yourself! Sorry to hear that work isn't going so great, another door will be opened soon, I'm sure of it!

Krista--Be careful in all that snow. And congrats on signing up for the half--that 85% number is what pushed Scott and I to sign up as well. Scary to think the 1/2 might be full before March

Debra--Yay on the surprise trip!:yay: I would love a surprise like that, but, alas, my DH is afraid for some reason that if he plans a surprise trip that he won't get it exactly how I would want it. Hmmmm, guess that means you're not the only one with a type A vacation planning personality (They call me the packing nazi 'round here;) )

Congrats to everyone getting those miles/minutes in. It's been difficult for me, cuz the next race officially on my calendar so far is the 1/2 in January. Must add more......Okay, should go fix DS some lunch. Have a great Thursday all!

Matt: holy smokes! That's a taper? I think NOT! I am always impressed with your workouts but this is just amazing. You da MAN!!

More later. Work calls.

Last night I did 40 on the TM. It wa -20 degrees this morning and I am so sick of the COLD!! Tonight I am planning to venture out to Bootcamp, if all works out for me.

Krista - I registered last night also. Since I am gone part of next week, I didn't want it to close while I am gone. Did anyone notice that the transaction fee went way up. I don't remember spending that much just for the convenience! Also, why is it the 1/2 is only $10 less than the full??? Hmmm, sounds like a money scam to me!!!

Matt – Wow! That’s insane! Hope your shins feel better quickly.

Kristen – WTG on running so much of your 3 miles!

Krista – I know they say that the first 6 weeks postpartum you shouldn’t overexert, so I was super careful and didn’t exert at all. Honestly, I’ve felt like I could go out and start a C25K for about two weeks now, but didn’t want to push it without a doctor’s approval. I’m no expert, but I would think that you’ll be fine for the half in January.

Stephanie – Glad you had a good run this morning!

I feel like a million dollars today. We put Sean down to sleep last night at about 9:45, and he slept until 6:10 this morning!! First time he’s slept through the night! :woohoo:

Jen - I didn't realize Madison was a WISH event until after I signed up for Mackinaw. However, it's not without possiblity that we could re-route to ROchester, MN that weekend. Then mayber we could do Madison on teh way home. (DOn't hold your breathe, though)

TXAng - WOo hoo for being aboue to work out again. I think going to the movie is a great way to taper into things! ;) DOn't forget to start taht carb loading for traning again! popcorn::

Matt - :upsidedow

Stephanie - SO glad you finally had a great work out!

Krista - Woo hoo for working out!

Bill & Lynnda - Hope the antibiotics are working. BTW, it would not surprise me if a child of you 2 could run before they walked! ;)

Kinda and Gentle Panda - Yeah, must have forgotten about teh slugs comment. :rotfl:

Can anyone picture Jen adn Kristi getting anythign done if tehy worked together? :rotfl:

Can anyone picture Jen adn Kristi getting anythign done if tehy worked together? :rotfl:

Are you insinuating that we are chatty? Or maybe we will just WISH/DisBoard it all day. Oh, but we can't both take our vacations at the same time... so Kristi would have to stay home!!! :rotfl2:

Kristi: It sounds like you needed a bit more recovery time and a bit of a "mental-health day" to escape the stress of the job hunt. (And for me, mental-health days always involve pizza!) You deserve it!

Angie: Yeah! I'm glad you're feeling better. It's so cool that you and DH push each other--in a good way, not in a War of the Roses way! I hope times just keep getting better and better for you (both race times and your everyday life).

Bill: In an earlier post, I rechristened my DH DOOD, pronounced Dude, and the acronym refers to "Dear One of Debra." What, that wasn't perfectly clear?? :confused3 :rotfl: Anyway, I'm so glad you now have a diagnosis for Timmy and a course of treatment. Hopefully the rest of the season will be illness-free.

TXAng: What a good day for you! You'll get to see Spirit as a prelude to resuming your running--I'll be it's great for your inspiration (not that you need it). And :woohoo: for Sean sleeping through the night.

Matt: THAT's a taper??!!: I am seriously undertraining. :lmao: Wow, that's impressive. WTG! I hope your shins heal soon, though.

Kristen: Great job getting back on course. You're making good progress!!

Judy: I still say you should be proud! Wasn't that eclipse cool? Very colorful and well worth staying up late. :3dglasses I'm impressed that you got up that early to run, too.

Krista: I'm so proud of myself. I actually got that reference to the Terrible Toddler Towel! I say, start the kid out when he or she is young, otherwise they'll end up like me! ;) Yea for signing up for the half--I'll be able to scream team for you!

Stephanie: WTG with your run on the TM! It sounds like you're recovering nicely--now if the weather would just cooperate. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only person whose trip-planning behavior gives their spouse pause. DH proposed to me at WDW, and he was more nervous about planning that trip than the proposal. (Of course, I laughed when he proposed, so what does that say about our relationship?)

Jen: I'll get to scream team for you, too! About those Disney race fees...yeah. They eat into my vacation fund!

Carrie: When and what is the Mackinaw event? That's not tooooo far from my parents' home.

As for me: It was a light, easy day of core work & some flexibility training after yesterdays TM. The knee is liking the gentler, kinder Debra and I'm trying to curb my impatience. My abs? Now, that's a different story. They keep telling me to that they liked me better when I ignored them.

Well, I got in 7 miles tonight. 2 1/2 on the TM and 4 1/2 on the bike. 45 min total. I just get so bored on the TM that I couldn't stomach more than that. Boy it's going to be so hard trying to increase mileage if I get bored at 2 1/2 miles!

To everyone who is recovering from illness or injury, pixiedust:

We are apparently in for snow, sleet, and I swear they are even saying pestilence and frogs with the odd boil thrown in! Super, duper fun!!

Have a lovely evening everyone!!

I have a question about annual passes. We bought the best one last time but this time we are thinking just getting a regular AP. Is the difference just that you don't get free water parks with the regular pass? Can you still do the park hopper thing at the Epcot, Magic, MGM and AK?

We never once went to a water park and the difference is about $150.00 each.

Curious Panda:hippie:

AP Panda...I'm not sure if the water park admission is the only difference, but you certainly can park hop with a regular AP. That's what I have. I figure, if I ever decide to visit a water park (which would be on rare occasion--haven't been in the 3 years I've had an AP), I'll just buy the ticket for it.

and....I have to tell you a funny....I play a Mah-Jonng solitaire type game on the computer when I am just killing time. One of the tile sets has a panda in it, so I always think of you when I see it! ha!:goodvibes

Panda...I *think* the only other thing you don't get with the regular AP vs. the premium version is the access to Pleasure Island. I have one..and should know better....but for the life of me I can't think of anything other than PI and water parks.

Martha...great job getting the workout in tonight :). I'm with you on the treadmill..I really can't stay on the thing for very long. It is just awful! But with all this crazy weather I've had to be on it more than normal. Tomorrow is looking REALLLLLY bad!!!!

Matt....:worship: Incredible run!!!

Krista: Congrats on signing up for the half!!! :) You will be ready..I just know it!

Debra: Glad the knee is feeling better!!!!

Stephanie: Good to hear you're feeling better and had an excellent run!

Kristen: WELCOME and congrats on a great run!!! :thumbsup2

Sorry to the many I missed...it's hard to keep up with this thread LOL!

As for me....Had a busy week and got some great workouts in the books. I'm trying to get a little speedier for the Minnie in May :). So I added a speed workout last Friday...and that actually was fun! I know! Fun?!?! Who knew? It was really nice to mix it up. Today was my Hill Repeat day...that was another interesting workout that turned out to be fun!!! After my warm-up I did 3 hill repeats (working up to 6) and then ran another mile. The shocking thing was that I thought I was running an easy pace...but finished the mile in 8:01 after running those hills. That was really cool :). Now if only I could keep that up!!!!

Tomorrow is going to be a MESS...snow/ice/sleet YUCK! I'm supposed to get another run in the books...we'll see if that happens. I've got the bike trainer all set up in case I have to settle for some in-home exercise!

I got in 6 miles after work today. Hot and humid, but hey, it's Hawaii, so I'm not complaining.

Sending some Hawaiian sunshine out to all of you stuck in the snow. Have a good workout, and great weekend.

:beach:
