Wk of Feb 17th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Lisa and Cecilia...On the whole clothes thing... I was looking at some old clothes in my closet that i just refuse to throw away because I want to fit in them again... One item was a skort from like 12 years ago...It was a size 10. Compare that to a size 10 jeans I bought 3 years when I was smaller and they are no where near the same size! That skort would be a 4-6 now. CRAZY!!!

Shout-outs to all you folks nursing injuries!!! Hope you're feeling better soon!!!

So...I went to the gym last night... Did 30 min the elliptical..really slow. Only 1.6 miles. Nice and Easy. :goodvibes Then hopped on the bike for 10.5 miles in 45 minutes... During the biking my toes started getting cramps and going numb! I've been batting numb feet when running w/ no walk breaks, but now numb toes... My 2nd toe beside my big toe hurt so bad by 10 miles, I just wanted to chop it off! Ok, not really, but you get the idea.

Is this weird or does it happen to others too???

Stacie

Carrie. Remember spelling is highly overrated. (Typing is also highly overrated! Why doesn't the DIS have spell check?)
Actually, it does. Check the upper right hand corner when you reply. I am just way lazy. Reforming, though. OptiMike has shown me the error of my ways....

Stephanie - Glad you are back to normal. Hope the fitness is back soon!

Stacie - Do you have enough room in your toe box? Are your shoes at least a size bigger than normal. I actually go up 1.5 sizes to give my toes enough room. Also, you may want to make sure that your shoes are not tied too tight.

DKP - DOOD!!! :rotfl:

Cecelia - Congrats on such a successful outing!!

Tricia - Great job on your walk! You were cruisin'!

Did 7 miles on the TM last night. Will do anything for a clear bike path!

Hi all! My wife, Kristen (kewz1) clued me in to this thread so I thought I would get in on it as well. I have met a few of you through Howard and Cam but look forward to meeting more of you at the next marathon weekend.
I started back to a consistent running schedule after taking a short break post-Goofy, but I am starting slow and short and am planning a gradual 11 month ramp up to next year's Goofy.
Unfortunately, no running today though. I am currently in Baghdad with the Army and we are in the midst of a pretty good sand storm - breathing, let alone breathing and running, is proving to be difficult. So, I get a "free" night.
I look forward to reading about everyones adventures as they get ready for their spring goals!

I get the numb toe thing, too. Normally big toe and second toe on right foot only. Did have new shoes fitted two weeks ago (are a size larger). Never hurts, just goes numb. Happens when walking usually - occasionally on eliptical, never on bike. Have checked laces over and over to make sure they're not too tight.

Maybe I'll try changing the lacing as well as stretching the calves more.

Here's the info on alternate lacing from Runners World. http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/news/article.asp?UAN=482

Oh and I've figured out a sure fire way for me to pick up my pace.
Just walk outside on days like today.....temp of 4 with wind chill of -15. :scared1: Let me tell you I moved thru the parking lot and we've got one of those lots that if it were any larger and further from the building we'd need shuttle buses or I'd get in an easy mile just going back and forth to car.:rotfl:

Greetings Fellow Race Team -

Just sticking my head in here before I cut it off. I am pretty sure I have a sinus infection. Oh yeah, fun! I did five miles on Saturday but have done nothing since then. My XT consists of trying to stay awake. I'm going to the doctor on Friday. I'm pretty sure she's going to prescribe a month long vacation in the Sunshine State!

Judy hope you feel better soon!!

Anybody into Podrunners? or the mixes that do beats per minute? I was searching for one thing, and came across this site http://djsteveboy.com/aboutpr.html It has some good mixes I thought, a good FAQ about downloading (which I needed) as well as a program mix called First Day to 5K - which sounded interesting!! Thought I'd share!!

I use some I got from workoutmusic.com and powermusic.com They have so many beats per minute--I think mine have around 135. I do find it helps me to stay on pace a bit better... I wish I had my ipod when I was doing C25K. They have pocasts for each week that tells you when to walk and when to run... DH was w/ me with a stop watch! :lovestruc

I'll have to check out that site...Always looking for something new! Thanks!

Welcome to Kristin and Kevin!:woohoo:

Just wanted to point people toward the hat order thread. Please look at it if you have expressed interest or would like a hat. Thanks!

In ME doing a rotation, still running but have added a significant amount of swimming and some biking back in. Doing an indoor triathlon on Mar 2.

Stephanie: Yea for you and Scott registering for the 1/2!

Betsy: Thanks for the link. A little inspiration is always a good thing, especially in February.

WWDave: Oh, we're motivated all right... :rotfl: Naw, it's all good. We're getting to know each other better, that's all. Hakuna Matata.

Angie: Wow! That's some class for YOU not to run. Guess that's why they call it Body Attack, huh? Fierce!

Cecilia, Lisa, Stacie: What, you don't buy the whole vanity sizing thing? I sooo enjoy losing sizes without getting off the couch. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around zero as a size. The clothing sizing reminds of me the recent brouhaha over Jennifer Love Hewitt being a size 2. Who cares, as long as you're healthy?

Tricia: WTG on the walking. In decent weather it's one of my favorite things to do!

CarolA: Good luck with the new exercises! In the meantime, maybe you could see it as your body catching a few extra zzzzzs for you when you least expect it! ;)

Carrie: WTG on the 7 miles. What does "anything for a clear bike path" really include? Just curious....

kzmarathon: Welcome, Kevin! We've heard so much about you and I look forward to hearing about your "really going to train this year" training! Take care of yourself and thank you for serving! :)

Liz: See, that's the difference between you and me. On a day with a -15 degree wind chill, all I can think of is hibernating! You're a bold and brave one, you are!

AlohaJeff: Thanks for the shoe-lacing link. You and Mooshu have ordered WISH shirts, right?

Judy: Good luck at the doctor's. I hope it's "only" a sinus infection.

Sandy and Stacie: Thanks for the music links!

xterratri: Good luck with the rotation and your indoor tri!

Hey all... I have been super duper busy. It is beyond my ability to keep up with work at this time!!! :surfweb: We went to High School Musical on Ice this week, totally suprising the girls with it. First we went to Lambeau Field (Go Packers!) for a family fitness thing, then told the girls we had to go across the street to check out the training center. Next to the training center is the ice rink... so we walked that way instead. DD7 FREAKED when she say HSM was there. Great show, the girls LOVED it. The only complaint I have (and it's a big one) is the cost for concessions and souveniers. YOWZERS, a child's t-shirt was $35 (didn't buy one). We did buy a popcorn and 2 drinks for a whopping $30. And you thought WDW was expensive!!!!

Sooo, last night I did some snow shoveling XT'ing. We have so much snow here. I am starting to wonder if I will ever get out on pavement again. Sunday through yesterday afternoon we got another 10 or so inches!!!

Carrie - I hear you on clean paths. Our streets are so narrow from the snow pile up and the sidewalks are ice and built up snow. It is crazy. Last year I did my first spring run around the 2 week of March, I don't think it will happen that early this year. Oh and we are in the negative temps again this week!!!

Judy - Oh, take care. I hate being sick. I have had terrible headaches on and off for 2 weeks!

Stacie - My toes go numb every once in awhile. If I wiggle them frequently it helps. Also, when they go numb keep wiggling them.

OK, gotta go, this took me forever to write!

.
Unfortunately, no running today though. I am currently in Baghdad with the Army and we are in the midst of a pretty good sand storm - breathing, let alone breathing and running, is proving to be difficult.

Wow. I am so honored to be chatting with one of my heros. Thank you for your service. I just hope we won't sound to whining as we type from our safe and comfortable homes.

Cecilia

Cool beans! I just ordered a new pair of my running shoes at Running Warehouse for $61!!! :woohoo: The last pair of these I bought for $90+ at the store. I used the WISH discount. Fab! Only bad thing is they are on backorder, but it shows them being delivered three weeks before my half. Perfect.

Evening all!

Work certainly takes over during the day so I'm relagated to posting at night. Bummer. Don't those people know what's important!!

Z: WELCOME!! :welcome: Looking forward to meeting you in January 2009. You're running the Goofy? You're a better man than I!!

Judy: hope you get some relief for the sinus infection.

twoWDWfools: :scared1: not a good thing with a wind chill of -15!! I do hope that is not heading our way. Please keep it.

Cecilia: sounds like the shopping went well. Tankini's are good but I should tell you about the surfing lessons I had while wearing a tankini...waves...falling off the board....well, I really need to know you better before I regale you with that. It's worth the story.

Today is a rest day for me. I need it a bit today. IT band is doing a bit better which is good.

Happy training!

Hello, team! Back to work for me today. I love days off. I try to remember that if I didn't work, days off wouldn't be so wonderful. Mostly, it's February, standardized graduation tests are in two weeks, and we're all starting to burn out.

Today is 40 minutes of XT. I'm planning on doing pilates tonight for awhile after dinner (I eat so little during the day--because I'm not hungry--I am starving by the time I get home! So far since 3:30 I've eaten a slice of healthy banana bread (made from scratch this weekend), a can of V8 (I'm an addict--I really need to seek a treatment plan for this), and a "salad" of a soon-to-expire avocado and chick peas. I'll have a little soup (the "golden winter soup" from the cover of this month's Cooking Light) when dh gets home in a little bit.

Now that I'm signed up for the Donald next year, I feel a lot more anxiety about my training than I did before when I was thinking, "I'll start training and see if I can get there." Now I'm locked in!

Thanks to all who sprinkled pixie dust on my neck--it is feeling much better! I have full range of motion once again!

Wish I was in Disney World. My husband has officially declared four more trips in the next year excessive. And NO. Not four. He's negotiating ONE. I can probably get him to agree to more than one, but I suspect the Minnie isn't going to hold up (and probably not ToT, either!). We'll see.

Debra, I would try the Godiva as gel again but...I ate the last piece last night to see if was good for recovery. :rolleyes1 No discernable help, although there was no chocolate ice cream craving to report....

Betsy, thank you so much for sharing that! It made me think that a) I can do this! and b) there's no way I can do this! at the same time. Really well done. Thanks again!

Angie, hey, you certainly put your all into that XT! I hope you are feeling less sore soon. Body Attack?! I guess they did warn you.... Clearly, they weren't kidding about that!

Cecilia, if you found a swimsuit AND other clothes, you had a great shopping expedition! I bet you fit right in with your fashionista now!

Lisa, I agree. When I can put my size 4 butt in a pair of size 0 pants at Old Navy, something is wrong....

Tricia, your training for training is the same as my training training! Great pace!

CarolA, calves so tight they cut off circulation? Sounds hurty! I hope the lacing changes help!

Stacie, my toes get cold and try to curl up when I walk in the cold. I find that if I make an effort to relax my feet and get them warmed up through moderate walking, the feeling comes back. I don't know if that's similar? :confused3 Hope you get better!

Carrie, I can't even imagine what it must be like to try to workout outside in Michigan! We've had no snow accumulation and very little ice here, and it's still not spring enough for me. Here's hoping that spring comes soon!

KZMarathon, you are amazing. :worship: I certainly feel spoiled complaining about some cold. DH spent only 7 months in the Persian Gulf in '03, and he would walk miles to call me every morning before the sun came up and the lines got long at the phones.... I don't think he thought of it as "training." I wish I had thought to spin it that way! :rotfl: We'll keep you in our thoughts for your safe and soon return. :)

Liz, I discovered that same speed work training tip two weeks ago--I walk so much faster if I think I'll be inside sooner! :rotfl:

Jeff, thank you so much for the video! It felt like I was running the Goofy with you! I love the photo as you approach the Contemporary during the Mickey and it looks like the crowd is running off a cliff--the fog makes everyone vanish! You and Marcia look like you know how to have a good time racing!

Judy, sorry to hear about your sinus infection! Fooey! Hope you are successful in your XT and try to have a good week. :)

Sandy, thanks for reminding me about podrunners! I keep meaning to update the work out mix!

Jen, what a special way to surprise the girls! I bet they never forget it (I saw smurfs on ice... I am so old! :rotfl: ). And concession prices are crazy--we went to the movies this weekend and i could not believe what they charge! Good luck getting out of the snow drift!

Shan, I love runners warehouse for that reason! I bought some great seamless-toe socks last week from there (I have been training in a pair of them that I bought at the running store--but that's almost an hour away!). I found a great deal on my running shoes, too, but I was waiting little to buy my second pair (I've only had these for five weeks!).

Martha, I know what you mean about not being able to check in from work--what a bummer! Hope your rest day is restful!

Unfortunately, no running today though. I am currently in Baghdad with the Army and we are in the midst of a pretty good sand storm - breathing, let alone breathing and running, is proving to be difficult.

First, thanks so much for what you are doing and here's to you staying safe and look forward to meeting you at WDW in Jan.

Second, my youngest brother was in Saudi during the first Gulf War and swore he was still shaking sand out of things 6 months later! Nasty stuff.

Hopefully it'll let up quickly and you can get out to run.

Hi everyone! After being MIA from this board for a few weeks, hopefully I'll be back on a regular basis and can keep up with these threads :).

I started a new group training program today called "no boundaries". We are training to run/walk or run a 5k in 12 weeks. (seems similar to couch to 5k) There are probably 20+ people participating, and we'll meet 3 times a week. Tonight we did a mile and a half, walking 2 mins and running 1 min. The distance wasn't horrible, being that I haven't been to the gym in sooo long! The cold, on the other hand, was something I'm not used to. I've done most of my jogging/walking on a treadmill, so this is a whole new world. Hopefully the group(which includes my husband who is so sweet and is supporting me by going along) will keep me motivated. :)

I've been working at my new job at Fleet Feet a little over a week now and I am loving it! There is SO much to learn, but it is all really good info, and I'm learning just how important it is to have good running shoes! LOL Have a good day everybody!
