Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

5 miles today for me in 59:18!

Cam...congrats on your 4 mile PR! :cool1:

Kristen...welcome!

Angie...I was thinking about that Iron Girl, but decided to skip it because I didn't want to get up that early. I'm doing the Springfest 12K the weekend before down at Palmer Ranch.

Allyson...wtg on the C25K!

Carol...if you're doing 5 miles under one hour, you're already halfway there for the 15K! You'll do great!

Craig...looks like you have lots of votes for your coaching thread. Maybe you could add in something about speedwork too :)

Krista...glad to hear you're both okay. One of my OB docs said he'd put money on Lenna being a boy, based on her heart rate

I still haven't taken an ice bath. Took me 2 years just to work up to the cold water bath :rolleyes1 . I usually don't attempt it until my LR are in double digits. I use the sweatshirt and hot tea approach and sit with just my legs covered until my teeth are chattering uncontrollably, then jump into the hot shower. I have noticed a difference when I do it versus skipping it.

The RaceReady shirt orders are scheduled to go out on Monday. I have a couple people that didn't send me an email address for an invoice. If you're still interested, please let me know!

Good training everyone!

Kristen - One more welcome to add to the stack.

Debra - Great about running Cleveland! We'll have to do an official role call, but I think that makes you and the DOOD, SteveOH, SWDave and his SIL, myself and hopefully DW Kathy. Any other takers?

You just have to promise not to wear any Steelers' gear. SteveOH probably will have that covered so I'll have to assure a safe distance away from him (Browns fans have been known to throw bottles, batteries, dog bones, small children, etc. at the opposition:rolleyes1 ).

As for the ice bath, I'm with the nude DOOD. Seems like it would be worse with a bunch of wet and cold clingy clothes. I am slightly peeved that I didn't know this was a couples activity:confused3 . Although, with the ice water and all, hmmm... probably a waste of good nudeness.

Mel - A cold water bath? In FL? That's barely a luke warm!

I'm on a mission this week. I will closely inspect every one of Carrie's posts in search of the ever elusive "THE" (vs. teh). I couldn't find any last week but I have a good feeling:thumbsup2 .

See ya!

I have a feeling Carrie's keypad has a few letters in the wrong location. Did you get the keyboard from freecycle? LOL.

Off topic: We went to Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore to watch the LPGA's SBS Open. I usually caddy every year, but took too much time off from work to run the Goofy last month. I didn't save enough leave to caddy the two tournaments in Hawaii.

Here are my Princesses who seem to have stole Annika Sorenstam's $165,000.00 winner's check. You would think they would have paid for some of daddy's race registrations. Sadly, it all went to candy!

Good morning WISH warriors.

Looks like more storms coming across the country. I know our northern team mates need some more snow shoveling for their cross training.

I saw a new MP3 player in a magazine that looks interesting. It's an RCA JetStream and it uses a new wireless technology. Has anyone tried it? It also has a stop watch/timer function and a pedometer.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Welcome Kristen, you'll love it here.:goodvibes

Dave - Hope you have a speedy recovery:flower3:

I only walked for 45 mins. yesterday, but hope to walk more today. I haven't been able to snowshoe because it keeps snowing and it's too cold. It's suppose to be nice on Tuesday, so hopefully I can get out.

Hey all!

Hope everyone's doing well. Just popping in with a quick question.

My little brother is interested in running a 5K with us. He's 12 years old. How should we train with him? Is he old enough for a regular C25K plan? I'm so excited that he's interested in giving it a try!

Good morning WISHers!

Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.

Today starts the NASCAR racing season. Today’s winner at Daytona is,

4.25 miles on the TM this morning. The feet are doing pretty well. The left foot is still a little tender where the blister was, but is coming along.

Mel – WTG with the 5 miler!

Cam – Congrats on the PR!

Hey, we have cold water down here. :confused3 :rotfl:

Jeff – Aloha! I was stationed at Hickam 1980 - 84. I still miss the islands.

WWDave – Take care of yourself.

Monte – WTG with the 45 minute walk.

TXAng – I say let him go for it.

:)

Vic, where are you setting up dinner for the ToT trip this time? Count us in.

Good Morning...well...it's lunch time here... Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!!!

I PR'd today!!! As we started out, I told DH I just want to increase my pace to be about a 12-13 minute mile for the Minnie so I'n not so stressed about the sweepers and I've got til the end of April to get that done. I started off a little fast, which I'm sure helped my time, but didn't help my breathing! :goodvibes So...I did 3 miles in 35:46. Yay! :woohoo: (I completed the Jan 5K in 46 minutes...) This is just under a 12 minte mile...right? Now...I just have to try to do this for 6 more miles!

Just need to come and share my success with those that I knew had been there and could appreciate the excitement!!! Thanks guys!!! :grouphug:

Hope to catch up on everyone else tomorrow!!!
Stacie

Way to go!:yay: :cheer2:

Hi all!

I ran 3 miles OUTSIDE yesterday! :cool1: The day started out cold and windy but the wind died down and it was great for running. I really do not like running on the TM but this time of year it is so hard to get in a run outside. Today I was at the gym and did 4.25 miles of cardio and also did some strength work. Felt good.

Stacie: :thumbsup2 on the PR!! Awesome!

Monte: how much snow did you get? I read something in the Rockie Mountain News online that said a number of resorts were closing early. From your snow report I wonder why they are closing early. Well, hope you survive the latest round of snow!

Mike: reading Carrie's typing is like solving an anagram then unscrambling those words!

Carrie: LOVE YA!!!! You know I'm only kidding!!!!

Calcio: :love2:

I'm lucky enough to have tomorrow off for Presiden'ts Day (gotta love those presidents, right? Give us a holiday for them!!!!) I'm gonna wallow in bed until the cats pry me out of bed to feed them. I've decided that when I die I want to be reincarnated as my cat! They have such a soft life. But, I digress. I was hoping to run outside again tomorrow but they are calling for rain. I'll see what transpires.

Happy training everyone!

TXAng - I used the C25K plan with my 9 yo daughter for the 5K this past Jan. I think he would do fine! That's great that he wants to do that with you. My dd said NO MORE after the Family Safari 5K. Oh, well, at least she tried, and she DID have a good time.

Stacie - Congrats!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I am so happy for you! :thumbsup2 Keep it up girl and you'll breeze right through the Minnie!

Kristen - From one Alabamian to another, I say :welcome: and . I will probably see you at that race. I am hoping to do the 10K, but we'll see. If I chicken out, I'll do the 5K for sure. I have a friend at church who is going to make up a training plan for me.

Good job Stacie! :woohoo:

Jeff, I'll have to check out your video later. DH wants on the computer. Can't wait to watch it! :surfweb:

Storms rolling in, luckily DH and I got out this morning. We ran 3 miles, pace was 10:13. Felt good. :thumbsup2

Mel: Thanks again for the RR shirt orders. You've got a phenomenal turn-around time! And congrats on the 5-miler. I think you should take an ice bath to celebrate! ;)

Mike: We're really looking foward to Cleveland, never been there. The only downside is the race location means DOOD's entourage (i.e. my ILs) will probably make the drive to cheer him on. They're really cool about spectating but aren't quite sure what to make of the need for a shower, nap, and some recovery time; they'll be ready to paint Cleveland yellow and black as soon as he crosses the line! Just kidding--between you and me, DOOD and I aren't quite sure what to make of the Steeler nation. :confused3 We're just too new to Pgh, I guess. (Detroit Lions, though, that's another story.)

AlohaJeff: Your princesses are too cute! I plan to make time to watch your video soon--I'm badly in need of a little Goofy inspiration!

WWDave: Thanks for the info on the wireless MP3; I'd be interested in hearing reviews, too. How's your recovery going?

Monte: I hope the weather cooperates for some outdoor walking or snowshoeing, whichever you'd prefer. Me, I'm just in awe that you like to snowshoe...

TXAng: That's so cool that your brother wants to run a 5K with you. I wish I had advice, but all I've got is a banana dance!

Vic: WTG with the 4.25 miler! I'm glad to hear the food is feeling pretty good. And I don't know my NASCAR at all--only the movie Cars--but I assume the start of the season was exciting?

Stacie: Great news on your PR! You're going to do great at the Minnie!

Martha: Yea for you! It sounds like an outdoor run was just what your spirit needed. More good days are on the way! If your cats let you sleep in I'll be impressed with how well you've "trained" them. Mine have perfected the Snoopy-as-vulture perch on my chest--at at 12+ pounds each, that action does wake me up.

Shan: I hope the storms pass quickly. But congrats on your 3 miler and pace!

As for me: I tried a new yoga class today. I think it's a keeper, a good combination of challenging and relaxing, a knowledgeable instructor, and designed for a variety of experience levels. After the class I was aware that I have a right knee, if that makes any sense, but my knee doesn't hurt per se. I was even able to do circuit training afterwards.

Hi All - just to say I am still alive though manic with work. Runing in short bursts - I'm working on the theory that if you're supposed to take a rest of a day for every mile you run in a race, so technically I wasn't supposed to even don my trainers until Feb 25th or something, so I don't need to go over 30 minutes until after that!!!! Sorry I can't catch up with everyone, haven't read a thread in weeks, but hope everyone is good- Helen

Hi friends

Just reporting in from overseas! I've been walking and trying to find a decent running route but it's going to be tough. Today I just decided to run. I took my Garmin and only put in about 2 miles but it felt so good to be running again. Singapore is so congested and I'm running on sidewalks along some busy roads---I've decided to nickname the course SEF for "sucking exhaust fumes." That can't be good for you, can it? :confused3 So I ultimately have to make the decision to drive in to town for the treadmill (Air Conditioned, no exhaust fumes, but a commute) or run outside here closer to home on the SEF trail. I'm sure it will work out.

We seem to be adjusting well to Singapore. It really is a beautiful place and I'll never complain about the weather (unless it's too hot to run ;) ) We live in an area where there are a number of expats so we've met quite a few folks and everyone is really friendly.

Leana--if you read this, could you pm me the restaurants you were suggesting? I didn't get to write them down. Sorry!

On my run today I was thinking about how I'd be training for the Minnie already if I were back home.:upsidedow I've gotta keep up with you people so I can jump back into a Disney race in a few years!

Happy training!

Hey, all, just stopping by. I've been relaxing since I pulled my neck/shoulder muscles earlier this week. i really should get a massage, but I'm putting aside the massage money for an entry fee into a local 10 mile race (if they are walker friendly!). My longest walk ever yesterday--I'm up to 6.5 miles. I felt good at the end, like I could have continued walking if I needed to. I had some calf soreness after the cooldown yesterday, but that's gone today. I'm more concerned that my hips feel a little sore and stiff--they sometimes pop out of the socket, and I'm hoping that long walks don't make that happen. If anything, I was hoping building the muscles would help whatever holds the hip in place would be stronger and it would happen less. Tomorrow is a moderate walk day (MfM), so we'll see what happens.

Mel
- Thank you so much for getting us WISH shirts! I'm so excited to have team WISHwear! Woohoo!

Mike, thanks for the visual on the cold water bath!

Jeff, your princesses are adorable. Did Annika miss the check, or did they cut her in on the candy? And I'll be watching your video during some serious sofa time tomorrow!

Dave, a wifi mp3? :confused3 Sounds like it could be cool. I hadn't thought of one of those.... I am still trying to figure out if i need a flash-memory mp3 player (like a shuffle or a nano) because the classic ipod is so heavy and potentially skippish.... Hope that achilles is feeling better! Stretching is your friend. :)

Monte, snowshoeing? Holy cow! That would be cold! We haven't had any snow to speak of here at the coast this year... I'm not complaining, either! Hope you have better outdoor activity weather of some description soon!

Vic, you've been healing a blister area for a month? :scared1: I worry that I have no idea what I'm in for with this exercise thing.... I never get blisters hanging out on the sofa (although I hear it is possible to get sores if you don't get up to get your snacks occasionally). Keep up the good work--over four miles! :)

Stacie, way to go on the PR!

Martha, you gotta love Presidents' Day! I, too, plan on sleeping in until the dog insists she needs to go out (if you don't make it back as your cat, aim for being my dog--it is also a cushy job). I've been waiting for this four-day weekend since Christmas! Then I just have to wait for spring break... I am worried the rain tomorrow is going to keep me inside--it's supposed to be 60 degrees but rainy. Back to the treadmill, I suppose....

Shan, I'm learning to dislike the treadmill and prefer any time I get to walk outside! Glad you managed to get outside today!

Debra, you are inspiring me to experiment and try to find a yoga class that works for me. I'm competitive with myself and need to see progress, though, so I tend to make the instructors crazy! Glad to hear you found a class that you liked.

Helen, hi! I was reading the post-race section of MfM today and Bingham says whatever you do after the race is right. :) Take your time and stop by soon!

Vicki, how exciting to be in Singapore! Sounds like you are finding your way--although SEF doesn't sound healthy. How fantastic that you found some expats to connect with. And I'm sure when you get back, you'll be in great shape for any Disney race that comes up--at least you'll be ahead of many of us on training in the heat!
