Wk of Feb 12--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - That's insane!!!!

Helen - I think we're all a but down right now, or at least many of us. We'll get there. My weight's about the same as yours. Maybe we have similar alleergies? ;) I need to bump up the runing, but need my foot to get better first. Think it's getting there, but stillw ant to be carefule.

I always just tell people I finished and I ran the whole way and those were my goals. If they ask how long, I apologize, though. :confused3 Like they could do it???? Then again, manu surprise me with a "Wow, that's a long time to run." So, the slower you are, the longer it takes, the more impressed people are, right? ;)

Maggie: Isn't there a "Sesame Place" in Philadelphia? Ooops, just checked and it doesn't open until May.
http://www.sesameplace.com/sesame/pa/index.html

Helen: Sounds like you and I are having about the same type of week. Maybe it's a seasonal thing and we all just need a vacation.

MelR: I can't believe you are self-conscious about your pace. From what I read hear you sound like an amazing athlete. Don't beat yourself up at all! You've done tons of things that most people would never even try.

Sunny: I second your idea with we should all just say "great" now. Someone was saying a couple weeks ago that it is so ingrained in us to be modest and self-deprecating. It is good to be humble and modest, but I think many of us take it to extremes and after too long we start believing it and it can be damaging. So let's try to boost ourselves up more. My grant is a perfect example - my DW says "hey, you got a great score!", but my response is "so what - it won't be funded". I really have to work on focusing on the positive more.

OK, I think I am going to the fitness center to try the elliptical. I worked through lunch, so I am going to give myself a break and go workout. I'll let you know how it goes.

OK, I used the elliptical in the fitness center. It was actually pretty cool. I was definitely getting a workout because sweat was dripping off me. It said I did 3 miles in 32 minutes though. I'm a little skeptical of that one. The good news is I feel absolutely nothing in my left shin. Yahoo! I told myself I would stay off my feet (walking or running) for at least a week. So that gives me until through next Sunday. OK, I'm about out of here.

Hi All!

I had a great surprise when I got home today...my framed Donald medal. It is gorgeous. I think I need a Mickey to go along side it!

Good job Dave, make sure you ice tonight!

MelR, hope the boy is feeling better.

Sunny, a question on your speed work. Are you following a plan for your speed work or are you just running intervals that feel right?

Colleen

Colleen - thanks for the reminder about icing. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't see your message. I iced my shin down for about an hour while watching TV.

Colleen-- I'm just making it up as I go along. I wouldn't exactly say they feel right, they feel like... (what Judy's knees said). :p There is a good training plan put out for the Boston Marathon training: http://www.bostonmarathon.org/BostonMarathon/MarathonTraining.asp it gives suggested intervals.

Dave-- I'm glad the elliptical worked out. I wouldn't compare the miles with TM miles, its sort of a cross between biking and running, but you'll get a great cardio workout that will benefit your running once your shin splints are gone. This might be helpful: http://marathonsports.com/Running/Images/Injuries/ShinSplints.pdf

I'm going to jog on my mini-trampoline while watching the Olympics. See ya tomorrow

Oh, I almost forgot. My mom emailed me and told me she printed out my marathon story for my uncle in Colorado(he's not on the internet). He read it several times. I remember when I was a little kid he scheduled a visit to see us in April specifically so he could see the Boston Marathon. Anyway, he said to her he had one question, what was the reference about Heather and Shoes? :rotfl2: So I emailed back to her Heather's shoe saga, which she will inturn relate back to him! Heather, you're famous (and so are your shoes) :lmao:

Hi Pat!!!

Coming out of lurking to ask who you used. For this one I'm going to shadowbox it myself but hey we're on a roll here and maybe next time we'll want to do something different :teeth:

My medal is still being held by my Disneybear dressed as Tink, able to be viewed as I use the ellip-machine which is probably the reason I've finished my workouts on it lately ;) I can't bear to put it behind glass yet. :goodvibes

Happy Training to all! :cheer2:

Dance with me, everybody :dancer: I did 4...that's right, FOUR...miles tonight with RUN 3/WALK 2 intervals. Yes, I actually ran more than I walked. Pace wasn't as good as I'd hoped with the change...only 13:41. I'm just happy I made it the entire 4 miles. I felt really tight the whole time...legs are a bit sore this evening.

Gosh, Helen...maybe you should come live in Florida :rolleyes1

MelR...sorry to hear that the boy is sick. My whole fam is ill too. Hard to be sympathetic and take care of them while trying not to become infected, too

Judy...have I mentioned I love your WL wedding photo. We're thinking about planning a 10 year vow renewal there...we actually almost got married at WL, too!

Dave...love the elliptical, but I find it harder than doing a regular training run. Or I would if I ever start cross-training again ;)

Do you think maybe WDW doesn't like me? I could never get anyone to call me back when I was trying to schedule our group dinner last year. Seems to be the same problem with the room block this year. I'm going to call Leisure sales again on Friday since the official marathon room rate doesn't seem that spectacular.

Really looking forward to Friday...this work week has been pretty emotionally draining. I've had two suicidal patients in the past 2 weeks and I don't do psych or primary care. Lynne, make sure you pay attention in your psych classes...you never know when you'll need that stuff.

Hi! I ordered from Fond Memories Graphics - the one I got has the medal, the official WDW 1/2 Marathon logo, and my name, chip time, and First Half Marathon. I am pleased with how it turned out.

Ahhh that is the same company Susan had talked about ordering from originally then decided we needed a craft day which means putting together shadow boxes LOL But I did find a box at Target the other day that was s shadowbox with a hinged door which I kinda liked since I'm still very in love with my first medal and can't bear to be separated by glass LOL

Very glad to hear you had such a good experience with them, I'll let Susan know and we'll keep them in mind for DL if they do that even too :)

Thanks!!!!

Geez, took me forever to catch up with the posts!

Dave - sending :wizard: :wizard: for your grant. wasn't it Tom Petty who sang "The waiting is the hardest part"?

Heather - congrats on hitting the weights!

Maggie - don't know how much time you'll have in Philly, but the Franklin Institute is having its Body Worlds exhibit, which is supposed to be really cool (haven't had time to get there yet myself). If that's too much for your youngsters, there is the Please Touch Museum, which has lots of things for little kids. Their website is www.pleasetouchmuseum.com

Terri

Mel - where do I sign with the florida thing. Anyone got the form - oh yes the immigration man and he's not letting me in any day soon!!! Actually that's a fib, I can come for three years but Tim can't, which seems a bit mean!!! Hmm, maybe we need to cast the Wish net a bit wider, maybe harness a few green card officials, I'm sure 'member of wish team' classes me as a personal of exceptional talent!!!

Am v proud of myself, still sulking, but just put the ice cream back in the feezer (without eating any) and now on here 'keeping busy'. Tim is in the 'big town over the bridge' taking his car for a service, which means getting the bus back, so he won't be home for a while yet so I'm killing time till Commander in Chief. Off to play a few more boards now... bye bye.

I just called Disney Sports about their marathon weekend "packages". It's room only and a round of minature golf. Well, ummm.....okaaaay. He quoted me a rate of $538.56 for three nights at any moderate (non-designated room). $485.04 for standard.

:confused3

OK, am I dumb here? Where's the savings???

Judy

I was curious about the packages as well - never called. I ended up just telling my AAA agent what I was looking for. So there is absolutely nothing different with the packages through Disney Sports? The buses that run in the morning to bring you to the marathon are they available to everyone or just those that have booked the package through Disney Sports? Sorry.....don't know if you know that :goodvibes .

Terri - thanks for the info! I saw body worlds here in Chicago and it was amazing. I just loved it! The pleasetouchmuseum sounds perfect for the boys. Thanks!

Dave - too bad sesame street isn't open that looks fun too.

Maggie

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Sunny- Thanks for that link on shin splints. I was looking for some particular stretches that I can do for my shins, so thanks for that.

Mel - Wow, it does sound like you have had a very draining week at work. Here's to a relaxing and refreshing weekend. So what is your field? Sounds like you work in a hospital.

Have I mentioned that you guys are great?!?

I haven't ran since Monday - resting due to the pain behind my knee. I could just about guarantee it is due to tight hamstrings. It felt fine while running. Just tightens up after. Rest, stretching etc.. seems to be helping.

I am off to work today. 12 hours today and on sat/sun since this is my weekend to work. So, I will check back in on Monday. I scheduled my LR/W for friday so that I don't miss this week.

Christa - how is the new bike treating you?
MelR - hope the boy is feeling better.
Sunny - running on a mini trampoline - I am sure I would fall over! :rotfl2:
Mel - great job on your 4 miles that is awesome!
Judy - hope the new baby is adjusting well.

I am sure that doesn't cover it, but I gotta run! I hope everyone has a great weekend and those who need to can shake those blues!

Maggie :coffee:

Jodi-anyone at the resorts can use the WDW transportation they provide marathon a.m. We booked our room thru WDW but got a AAA rate (which was better than the group rates they are offering) and used it no problem.

Pat-that's great you got your prize. I know you'll hang it proudly. I am going to make a shadow box as soon as I get my pics.

Mel-AWESOME JOB!!! :cool1: You've been bitten by the running bug.

Dave-that's a great workout! :cheer2: I know its not the same as running, but that eliptical will give you one heck of a workout & you'll be better off for it next week.

Judy-I'm glad you got your sweet baby! :cloud9:

I was supposed to swim last night , but since I had just had my hair colored there was no way I was getting in the pool and bleaching out what I had just paid big bucks for. Went bike riding instead. Did 6 miles, but it was pretty easy since alot of it was with DS8. But I was riding funny or something because by the time I got home my sholders were sore. I also did the stair stepper this a.m. Boy will that thing work those inner thighs :crazy2:

11 1/2 weeks to Minnie guys!!!!! :cool1:

So is Disney's Port Orleans Resort French Quarter the closest resort to the marathon start? Can you walk from the resort to the start? Is it possible to get a room for marathon weekend?
