Wk of Feb 12--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

:scared:  :crazy2: :guilty:  :headache:  :worried: The previous sums up my last long run b/4 the marathon next weekend! I was supposed to do 8 miles, but I finished 4. Boy decided that he was sick of tv too and came to play near me on the tm. He hurt his toe on a diecast metal nascar replica my parents gave him (i think it was jeff gordon, i don/'t know) and the crying commenced. After that I surrendered to the mood of the moment and gave up. We are now napping (my favorite part of the day!!!!) I think the weather is going to be too bad here to redeem the run and phil is doing an adventure race this weekend w/ ec and her husband, so he won't be available to watch the boy anyway. I'm a little worried about us traveling to the race in the weather this weekend, but i guess we'll figure that out tomorrow.

Thanks for the reminder Cam on the included medal. I'm definitely going to keep that in mind for DL if they offer that there too (probably will).

Great wedding pics! I love the WL design, haven't had the pleasure of staying there yet as I never hear good things about their transportation. Funny, cause I have stayed at AKL and love it and it's transportation and I know some have not had good trans. there.

We're stuck indoors until the weather gets warmer but Susan uses the gym and I have my trusty ellp-machine which I'm taking a break from today :teeth: Today was warmer here in MI but rain  We managed to get in something like 2.44 miles the other day walking the dogs. Talk about scary, came across this strange guy that has left us a wee bit freaked out over our fave course.

Our next outdoor possiblity is next Thursday according to the weather channel, 37 degrees. I hate the cold. Susan and I have decided on a solution, we're going to live someplace warm for the MI winter months to train and leave the hubby's here to man the igloos. :sunny:

Hope everyone else is enjoying weather that fits their training schedules. :)

Greetings Everyone:

Whew! Work was busy today, and I didn't have anytime to read and posted. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical again at the end of the day. Felt good, and now I have to ice. I'm going back to read now.

Mel - Wow! Great job on the 4 mile run!!! :thumbsup2 Whoo, hoo, you're smokin' :smokin:

MickeySP - I hope your knees start feeling better. I'm glad your doc is setting up a training schedule for you.

Heather - WTG on the weightlifting! :thumbsup2 Gonna have to get those elephants and VW beetles from Sunny! Also, great attitude about finishing the 1/2 marathon. Great! Let's all say it together, GREAT!!!

Sunny - maybe when the elevators get stuck at work, you could come and leg press them up and down...

MelR - Sorry the boy's still sick. My DW is now fighting off the sickness from DD5 princess: Good luck with your marathon. I'm sure you're in great shape, and will do awesome (even without the best of training)!!! Remember what Christa's mother said "we don't choose the conditions we run the race." You will do the best you can do, and I'm sure that is better than the majority of people could do.

Judy - your pictures are wonderful, thanks for sharing. I've always wanted to go to WL. It looks like such a magical place.

Cam - Hang in there with DD17 and her college decision. It is a really stressful time with such a major life change. You're almost through it.

Dena - Yeah, baby! Awesome run! You're smokin' too :smokin: I'm not sure what I'll decide about housing for the marathon, there's so much time to think about it. I'm sure I'll post here whenever I make the decision. Part of me is thinking about just making a reservation just to have it even though I haven't registered for the marathon yet.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I just looked at the race journal!!! I'm not laughing at the entry, but at where the name Running Lilo comes from. I think you calling your husband the "stitch in your side" is hysterical!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That's very, very clever. Great pictures of the race. I think it's wonderful your whole family is running together. That is really special.

Craig and Steve - thanks for posting about your experiences at POFQ. It sounds like that is a very convenient place to stay for the race. I'm still focusing on this early training though before I think too much about where to stay on race day.

Minnie - eek, a whole lot more going on with your back than that??? That sounds a little scary. Good luck!

Amy - wow! I would be pretty freaked if 2 pit bulls were coming towards me. Just a bit of trivia, I hear the pit bull won "Best in Show" at the Westminster Kennel Club this week. So you were chased by a Best in Show dog and Judy gets chased by a best in show skunk.

TiffJ - Great job on the run too :thumbsup2 . Must be something in the air. Everyone's having these wonderful 4 mile runs!

OK, I think I'm caught up now. Have a great night everyone, and have fun running, walking, and training!

Hi All!

I had a great surprise when I got home today...my framed Donald medal. It is gorgeous. I think I need a Mickey to go along side it!

What a great surprise!

Still looking through posts from today - Wow, you guys have been really busy!

Judy - great photos! You're so lucky having your wedding at Disney - I wanted to do that so badly......but I did have a Mickey and Minnie themed wedding at home :thumbsup2 . Did you have an intimate?

Woo hoo - went to Weight Watchers and I'm down another .8.....not much longer until I hit their goal of 127.20 (maybe, next weigh in) - I'm at 127.8, right now. Then my next goal is the one that I have set for myself of 110 or 115. :cool1:

Okay, I have to go and catch up on posts - have a wonderful night everyone!

Amy - my running partner is way faster than me. she actually wins or places in her age gp in most races then comes back to get me on the course!!! I used to feel like a charity partner

I guess, I'm not the only one that feels this way - the friend that I am running the marathon with in January.....well, I have a feeling she's going to leave me in her dust. Thank god, I've already started to train and will be starting with my personal trainer this coming Saturday.

Hey Tiff - are you my twin? I had an awesome (for me) 4 mile run/walk today, too. I also haven't 'hit the pavement" since the WDW race. Took a month off to let injuries/sickness heal and then have been doing mostly cross-training. Up until today, i hardly did anything this week due to catching up on things at work. It's been pretty busy. I did 4 miles in 56:58 (about a 14:14 pace). But what really made me happy was my 2-mile split was 27:12 (13:36 pace). I havent been under 14 min. pace in a lo-o-ng time.
My back 2 miles were slower, but considering most of it was uphill, I was very pleased! :cool1:

Dena - I did the Goofy at WDW and was up the day after the marathon at 5:30am. Wide awake, ready to go! Not tired, not stiff. Only problem I had was a wicked shin splint and blister. I don't like to get up at 5:30 on ANY morning, let alone the day after I finished a marathon!

Cam and MelR - hope the kids are feeling better. :wizard: :wizard:

Terri

Just a quick post this morning - to let you know that my friend and I will be going Goofy in 2007!

Okay - have to get ready for work.

Jodi

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Jodi - you the WO-Man!!! You go girl. Thanks for letting us know about your decision to go Goofy in 2007. I'll be there to cheer you on in your training and in Orlando.

Thanks Dave! I'm really excited about the choice :thumbsup2, As long as I just finish both races I'll be happy. I think my friend might leave me in her dust though.

BTW - Thanks to everyone that had given information about the buses at the resorts. I was not sure if it was the regular busses that were provided or something different. :goodvibes

Jodi

Cam - :grouphug: It may be rough for a while, but I knwo you'll all come through just fine. SOme day, you will laugh about this. Just not real soon. ;)

Dena - Cool journal! Ummmm...Perhaps you may want to re-think those ressies in order to sheer on teh full marathoners. ;) If it's your only chance, do breakkfast, but after you realize how great the people cheering for you for the half are, you may want to cheer for the full marathoners.

MelR - Hope DS is doing better.

I've been really sluggish this weeka nd have not felt well. Seeing as it was 32 and pouring rain last night, I did not get my run in, but did do 60 min xt. Foot's been feeling good, so I think I'll do dthe scheduled 7 tomorrow.

Dena-- great journal! Your DD is so adorable. Its great you are exposing her to running so young.

Judy-- great photos. I haven't stayed at WL yet and really want to.

Minnie-- I'm glad you got your MRI. I hope they have some answers for you real soon.

MelR-- I know you will do great on your 26.2 mile training run next week pixiedust:

Wow! 4 seems to be the magic number this week! Awsome job everyone!!!!!

I did my upper body weights at lunchtime yesterday and then discovered Dx and DS were going out in the evening so I went to the Y and did a 10.5 mile run on the TM. It was slow and labored. But a few miles into it I realized I hadn't eaten anything since lunch. By the time I showered (8:30PM) I was feeling really sick. Fortunately I had a protein bar in the car.

My new speedo and goggles came in the mail yesterday :scared1: :earseek: Swimming lessons start on Feb 27.

Sunny

We are off for a few days. Boy still has a cold, but he seems to be feeling a little better. We are going to Wilburton OK for an adventure race. Boy and I are staying in a cabin and phil is racing w/ ec and her husband. I'm so glad i decided not to do this one b/c it is supposed to be freezing rain!!!!! They are going to freeze. I can't handle racing in the cold!!!!!! I'll be sitting around, watching movies, and eating. basically all i have been doing this week!

I was worried about the 26.2 mile training run next weekend b/c i was thinking i haven't been back int he groove since goofy. i realized i have done 2 10milers, 1 15miler, 1 32miler and some shorter ones. i think i'll be fine.

ok...off to OK

Good morning. TGIF! It's Friday, it's payday, it's a long weekend.....life is good. :woohoo:

I did my standard 45 min @ 3.7 @ 1% this morning. Am I stuck in a rut???

Minnie - Oh! Oh! Oh! I'm SO glad you had am MRI. Let's find out what's going on, once and for all! :wizard:

Amy - OMG with the dogs! I'm glad they were friendly but geez!

Dave - It was really more like me chasing the skunk. He hasn't been back. He's probably telling everyone in the forest about that crazy lady who wouldn't leave him alone. :lmao:

Jodi - Yes, we had an intimate. It was just the two of us. :bride:

Sunny - You have to eat! And I expect to see a new picture with the Speedo and goggles please. :rolleyes1

Judy

Have a safe trip Melissa! :moped: Enjoy relaxing this weekend.

Way to Go Jodi! This is for you :goofy: I am still going to wait a little while to make my decision. For now, it's just the full for me.

I did 2 miles on the TM this morning at run3/walk2. It felt good. I really think the weights are helping, and I kept an easy pace. My goal is to really increase my pace before the DL 1/2, but I have to keep in mind that I still have months to get ready and based on past experience, I know that, with training, my speed (and endurance) will increase. For now, I am going to concentrate on endurance. I am going to try to run/walk 4 miles this weekend for my LR.

It's going to be cold and rainy here all weekend. DDs soccer season start tomorrow, but I think the games might be cancelled. I need to ride this weekend, but if it is wet, I will have to settle for a ride on the stationary bike at the gym. I don't want to risk injury on wet roads.

Safety Tip: If you do not run or bike with some form of identification, you need to do it. If, god forbid, something happens to you while you are away from home, identification will allow others to help you in an emergency. I just bought something called RoadID. It was only $20, and I got the one that wraps around your ankle. You can personalize it with your name, emergency contacts, any health information. There is even room for a personal saying if you want. I put "The Courage to Start" on mine. You can order them through the internet at www.roadid.com. They make tags that you can wear around your neck (like in the military). They also make them for your wrist or your ankle. Mine is super light weight. I forget that I have it on.

Okay, I better get to work. :guilty:

OK, dumb question of the day....

How come a guy's Speedo impilies major reveling typ e suit, but for women, speedos tend to be conservative and functional. One of the many mysteries of the univers.

Amy! Forgot to add how scary teh dogs must have been. DOn't like any dogs coming up to me on runs, you jyust never know. Glad you're ok!

Hi WISH Team!

OMG! You are all so chatty! I simply cannot keep up! I've read up with the free time I had last evening, just lost the energy to post up. Keep up the GREAT work everyone.

I do want to say best WISHes for Minnie with those MRI results. I do WISH that a diagnosis and repair is in the near future.

I Love you all, Just the full, just the half....bwaaahhh haaa haaa!
You are all NOT JUST anything. Stop it!
:grouphug:
I will do my best to get up some of my race prep info and such soon. I will be asking for a "sharing" of pics. I did not get as many as others because I was hoping to bother you for some. I think I have some things that might help to put minds at ease.

For now:

I am 55 years old! I trained Bingham (Marathoning for Mortals)--my training to train was using the half program then I went into the full at the appropriate time. My trainig to train was where I built strength and endurance making myself try to run/wog faster and adding overall muscle strength (not power strength, just toning strength). I had the advantage of having done the half and spent the previous year training for that.
On the race day I wogged...(not walk, not run exactly...kind of a slow run/jog/walk). If I stopped it was going through the water/food stations. I cannot run and consume anything. Then I would lean forward and chug along. I made my mind up early on that I had the maximum amount of time, and I tried for the "cushion" that I acquired whilst training to train. I had the absolute BEST event EVER! I felt like I was floating on air and never had a breakdown. It was my first marathon. It was my weekend, my time, and all was in order for me.

The training for the Goofy was not any extra time than training for the full except as was already mentioned the back to back LR weekends (every other weekend basically).

I best post this now or I will never get my $.02 in.

Hey Lily - Thanks for your post. I keep forgetting you are in Cleveland. The fam and I are heading there tonight for the long weekend to visit my sister-in-law who is an art history professor at Case Western. I'm going to do my workout today and then rest the legs over the weekend to give my shin splints a good recovery. Maybe if there is ever a race in Cleveland (and I am ever in race shape) we could meet up in our green WISH team shirts.

Dave, have a safe trip. Right now it is cold, windy, and sunny here. Supposed to mix up a bit this weekend with snow and such I've heard I think. I'm headed south Ohio tomorrow to spend time with GF who just lost her Mom. Next time ya come this way, make plans for a training run in the National Park we have here.
