Wk of Feb 11--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning TEAM:

OK, this is going to be a drive-by post for me today. I did 5 miles on the TM in 48:19 min ~ 9:40 mpm pace. It felt pretty good. I guess I spoke too soon about the snow because we're supposed to get a foot tonight. Winter is here! I'm going to try to SWOG today, and tonight I have the first tae-kwon do lesson with DD9 princess:. It's some Daddy/Daughter one on one time we're trying to get in together. Although, I want to try to get some one on one time with DD6 too princess:.

Kevin- Sorry to hear about all the stress with your job. I WISH you all the luck with the job hunting.

Anne- Congrats on your 10 miler! You did super, and I can't believe anyone would be comparing themselves to me. I only hope to have your good spirits.

Sunny- Thanks for asking about the grant, it's coming along. It's crunch time right now, and I need ot get it done. It's great to see you posting on the boards more. Hope the neurontin is helping you.

Oh, one final thing, for those of you that did the DL Half Marathon last year - where did you stay? I just discovered I have a meeting in San Diego November 3-7, and I was considering taking the family along too. DW would be going to the meeting as well, but we could take the kids to Sea World during the meeting, and then maybe hit DL the weekend after the meeting. Do any of you have any thoughts or insights about the DLR area?

Oh, one final thing, for those of you that did the DL Half Marathon last year - where did you stay?
We stayed at the HoJos for the race. It was nice. DO NOT pay extra for the view of DL though! We paid extra to have a top floor room with a view. Well, the view was through big trees that blocked the so-called view. And the top rooms have skylights that are not covered. Not very good for sleeping in, or naps. I was upset I paid about $20 more a night for the "view."

I know alot of people stayed at the Candy Cane Inn. I've heard great things about that one. I know Cam & a bunch of other WISHers stayed there.

If I were you, I'd go to the Disneyland threads. There's a ton of info on hotels there. I especially liked having the map of where the hotels were in relation to the park entrance.

Oh, and one more thing - I've stayed at the Disneyland Hotel a few times. It is wonderful, of course. But in my opinion, I'd rather save the money and stay at a hotel off site, but within walking distance. (I also stayed there while I was still a CM and got 50% or more off the room - makes staying there much more attractive!)

P.S. Can I come along? You know, you may need a babysitter or tour guide or something. I love southern CA! And you get to see the Haunted Mansion done up as the Nightmare Before Christmas! We saw that years ago - and it's worth the trip alone. Oh, and Small World also has a Christmas overlay.

Angie - Though its tough I know the rewards in the end will be worth all the sacrifices that our families are making for us :thumbsup2 Keep your eyes on the prize it is so close now :woohoo:

Sunny - Your story reminds me of the times when I took my books and laptop with me to my DS's scout meetings. I'd get the oddest looks but DS said it's just mom doing her homework :rolleyes1

Lisa - Disney's policies sound similar to what I'm going through trying to be qualified for my new job. Fingers crossed that I hear something this week. I'm about going around the bend and taking my family with me :guilty:

We are snowed in under that midwest snow storm. Lots of blowing and drifting in our future today

WISHing everyone a great day!

OK, somehow I missed a bunch of posts.:confused3

Mel & Sunny - After our 200 WDW trip, I found potential jobs fo both of us. We just cant leave family afn I really can't take gators & snakes & such.

Mel - Somehow, over $600 in airfare to run a 5K (or even a half) just can't be justified. If I can find a last minute deal, we'l see.

Angie - Oh, you're a scrapper. That dream trip sounds great, but I don't think I coudl scrap so close to WDW. I like being holed up in a house in Milwaulkee where there's nothing else to do except chat with a good friend.

Dave - great pace!!

Heather - Hope everyone's well soon!

Cecelia - Hop eyou're feeling better soon!!

lisa - ROTFL! Hope dh calms down after his XT soon!

mogulskr - Thanks for teh tip. I ownder if that would have helped me this year. Not sure if teh cramping was do to the heat or teh fact htat we started doing r/w and weweren't used to it.

Kim - Woo hoo on teh hotel. I have to wait until next Tuesday. :(

Optimator - SOunds like heavenly weather! Good for you!

Dena - Way to listen to your body (and babies body too). ;)

Maria - Way to go on teh loss! WIth training, you should see more in measurements thatn weight anyway.

My weekend plans got canceled, probably a good thing. So, we might do the local Ice Festival 5K this weekend. A 10k would fit training better, but at least it'll be outside! :cool1:

Kevin - Up for a run by the lake? :D

Keep forgetting:

Last time we were in the local running store, teh man knew both our names. We swear neither of us said the other one's name. Then again, we're likely teh only 2 WDW marahtoners that go there. Still, I was impressed.

Anyway, while I was trying on a running skirt, he was talking to Scott and another woman walked in. He gave her a pamphlet on teh 5K. He gave one to Scott, too, but said, "I know, this is probably too short for you marathoners, but you're still welcome to come." :goodvibes :goodvibes

Of course, being the way we all area, Scott replied with, "It's not that it's too short, it's that we have one speed and it's slow." I'm going to make him say teh mantra too!

Cam - Be sure you check your bling, as it's sure to be a pain in teh airport, you hi-hopper you! ;)

I'd get the oddest looks but DS said it's just mom doing her homework :rolleyes1

That's adorable! I hope you survive that snow!:wizard:

I see a new tshirt in my future - I love this quote!

My thoughts exactly! T-shirt

Carrie-- I don't do gators or snakes either:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I think I might wimp out my run. The temp is 12, "feels like -2". Not that I was going to run outside, but just getting to the gym is seeming like a chilly walk.

Sunny

Helen – I was :lmao: about the big fluffy fibber meaning “liar” and his eyes being too close together. What a riot! I am so sorry you are having such a problem with your feet. I am glad that it is early in the year so that it will all be better before formal training for January begins. Oh, and I promise – no “grill” – I think my partners would disassociate from me! Getting my ears double-pierced is about as daring as I go! :)

Jen – great job getting to the gym in the middle of the day! :thumbsup2

Andrew – congrats on upping your miles! I am seriously urging everyone to avoid icy/snowy conditions. No one wants to be taken out of the game due to injury!

Vic – I am so jealous that you got to do more than a 5K at CBR!! But it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy! What a beautiful place to get out and around. Great pace, too!

Meghan – so glad you could inspire your mom to undertake a challenge! Oh, and just ignore the laughs– the last one will be yours when you show everyone your gorgeous medal!

Carrie – you are doing great facing your fear and you will soon be completely over it! :goodvibes:

Good job, Maria! Your dedication and hard work are going to pay off BIG!!! :cheer2:

Heather — so glad you didn’t share details of your great weather! ;) Here’s pixiedust: for the girls and :goodvibes: that everyone in your house gets healthy and stays that way! How in the world did you squeeze in 2 miles?

Angie – That scrapbook will be so awesome! You MUST bring it to marathon weekend next January to share with all your WISH teammates so we can celebrate your awesome achievements. :woohoo: Just hang in there, kiddo – the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer and brighter!

Mike – awesome distance and pace! :thumbsup2 I was :rotfl: at your TMI information. Since you shared, let me make you feel better. When I was running on the TM last week, it became apparent to me just how critical it is to prepare ahead of time for running and to wear the right undergarments! ;) And if you’ve lost weight and some of those items are just not .. . um. . um. . “tight” enough, it is imperative to get thee to a store very soon! :lmao: KWIM? Oh, I guess maybe not. ;)

Kim – great pace! :cool1:

Lisa – It may be a smaller “world” than I thought – Is your cousin’s DH named “Brian”?

Sunny – Please take it easy today. I worry about you all the time, sweetie. Okay, so now I am a “Camsicle” and I’m “in da house” – I just may be able to persuade my kids that I am “cool”! Okay, I just saw that you may take a break – that makes me feel so much better!

Cecilia – sorry you aren’t feeling well, and you may be dehydrated if you’ve been sick, so be sure to take care of yourself.

Dave – on Helen’s recommendation, we stayed at the Candy Cane Inn right down the street from the parks, and it was really wonderful. Just to tell you how nice they are – they have a free continental breakfast at 7, I think. Well, I never adjusted to Pacific time and would go over at about 5 am to get in a few hours of work on my laptop before my secretary would get in. I’d sit in the breakfast room and they always offered me food and coffee. On race morning, they put breakfast out at 4 am so that the race participants could eat before heading to the Start. I highly recommend that your family stay there.

Morning all!!!

Cam-- Oh yes, the new job, whatever it may be, will easily be less hours and 90% less stress, so I'll have much more time to hang out with you guys (and train, for that matter).

Carrie-- I'm not going anywhere. Fact of the matter is, I might just be transfering departments here, but to something way less intense. I only have a year to go and I definately don't want to derail that. As for the run by the lake--- I think I'll pass. ;)

Meghan-- My family and friends reacted in a similar manner when I told them about this whole marathon thing years ago.... but you know what they say, "living well is the best revenge."

Mel-- Oh gee! Another sports job?!? Never again so long as I live. :rotfl:

Thanks to all those who have wished me well with the whole job search thing. Luckily I am making this decision now, so I have plenty of time to search out alternatives. I came to the realization during the past month that not only do I not particularly enjoy what I'm doing, but it's actively preventing me from accomplishing what is important to me (i.e. graduation, etc.) So this is really a positive step for me. It feels like the right time for sure (Especially with me entering "old man" territory next week.... :headache: )

I managed to hit the treadmill this morning for 35 minutes and hung in at about 10:30/mile-- a few more walk breaks this time than over the weekend. I must say, I might be weird, but I find I run WAY slower on the treadmill than I do out on the road. I don't know what it is..... Perhaps if the temperature could crack the 20s, I could get outside again, but that doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon. :rolleyes1 Maybe I'll get brave and do a couple of miles after class.

I better dash--

Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

:badpc: :badpc: :badpc: Aaaargh, I just spent a very frustrating morning trying to format my grant to fit in the 10 page limit. Very, very bad PC!!! :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: For some reason my reference manager decided not to work anymore. I need to format the bibliography, because thay determined where my figures went, etc... very frustrating. I'm going to walk over to the gym now and SWOG for a bit to relax.

Kevin - Whew. You had me worried. As long as you're not moving, you have my blessing. ;) It'd be rgeat if you could just transfer departments! WTH?? Old Man??? Watch yourself!! IIRC, you'll be 28? Keep that up and us old folk will hit you with our canes! ;)

Dave - Ugh! WHat a frustrating day!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Cam - i can only hope I get over this fear soon.

No running outside today. We got 6 inches overnight & suppose to have 5-8 more in next 4 hours. Guess it's TM time.

CJ - Fishers, IN
1k @ a time

Well I did Curves for xt this a.m. & am hoping to get to the gym tonight to get my 2 miles in. Weather is horrible here.

Dave-another vote for the Candy Cane Inn. Great location, clean & pretty grounds!

Kristi-um, fat-NOT athlete-and how many of your friends have done a couple of 1/2 marathons & a couple of 15k's in the last year or so?

Sunny-love the shirt!! I hope your doing good!

Sorry no time to catch up , just wanted to at least report my workout!

Happy afternoon all!!

Lisa_Loves_Pooh: I think just about everywhere is very slow to hire. Even people I've interviewed with who say they want a quick turn-around take months to do so. Makes you wonder what "slow" is to them....

Cruella de Mom: yuck on the stomach bug. Had it last week and lost a day of training. It took 2 days for my stomach to be back to normal. On the bright side, no intake means no gain in pounds. :rotfl2:

Solotraveler: I totally understand where you are coming from regarding the decision to look for a new job. I made that decision last October and it was very hard to do. But I realized that it was time and things would not get any better here. Once I realized that and came to the conclusion, I have been much more relaxed at work and really don't care about what happens here anymore. Which is sad, but makes me much more calm. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :goodvibes

To those who were laughed at when they told friends and family they were going to run the 1/2 or full marathon: I had a similar experience when I told my family I was signing up for the summer softball league at work last summer. First there was total silence, then DH and DD looked at each other and started giggling. Which turned into laughter. They came to the games for the laughter probably expecting to see me make a fool of myself and you know what? I DIDN'T make a fool of myself. AND I had fun. I hit the ball, I caught the ball and I could even run. OK, so I throw like a girl. But I was out there playing and they sat and watched. Who was the winner in that?

Have a great day everyone!

Caution! Judith Anne is cranky, tired and miserable. Having a very hard time dealing with this stinking winter and wants to move to Florida NOW!

Grrrr.

Did 5 miles on the TM Sunday. I wasn't in the mood and had to force myself.

Did 45 min yesterday. It was OK, Nothing exciting.

Did nothing this morning since I had to move 60 bales of hay (45# each) and 100 bags of shavings (25-30# each) by myself last night. I feel like I have been run over. My neck and back are killing me. I'm crabby and irritable. The good news it...people sense this and they are leaving me alone today.

Anne - I'm so glad your back. :goodvibes You add zip to our threads! Thank you for missing me. I've been a total posting slacker.

Jen - I'm sorry to hear you're in a funk. :guilty: But at least we can be in a funk together. Does that make us funky?

Bill
- You are such a pip! Your dog giving you dirty looks and your daughter bellowing for you. If I am lucky enough to get to spend more time with you, I'll bet I find you to be hysterically funny! :rotfl:

You know what Sunny? I don't think I'd ever take it for anything now. Thanks for the PSA though.

Mike - You wore your Garmin cutting the grass? I'll have to tell Charlie that. I gave him a Forerunner for his birthday last week and his been wearing it ever since. He's finding new and inventive ways to use it. He clocked our splits driving to the mall Sunday. Geez. :lmao:

Kevin - Hey it's Kevin! Yay! :yay: Ohhh. Big decision. I wish you the best with it. I want to change careers. I want to leave IBM for the Tri Circle D Ranch at Fort Wilderness. I am dead serious about this. It's only a matter of time...

Helen! Oh Helen! I'm in such a foul mood but you made me LAUGH OUT LOUD at the mental picture of Cam with a grill on her teeth! OMG! HA HA HA HA! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Dave, Last summer we stayed at the Carousel Inn. It is right across the street from the Disneyland/Downtown Disney/CA Adventure Entrance. It was an awesome location and the rooms were nice. We had a studio like room, 2 beds in different rooms. So the girls shared their own room. They also have 2 and 3 bedroom suites for a nice price. We would definately stay there again. We have also stayed at the DL Hotel, but like Kristi said, the price is not totally worth it. The Carousel is not Disney, but it is a nice room for a great price and you can walk to the parks.

Oh and we did Sea World also. The girls LOVED the marine animals. They said that was the best part!!! You are going at a great time too, I would imagine it wouldn't be too busy there and the weather would be cooler.

My DD6 is sick today. She woke up and vomitted. So grandma is watching her because I have an audit at work. She was so sad because she wanted mom to stay home with her. I told her if it was any other day I could do it. This is the HUGE downside of being a working mom.

Last night we went ice skating, it was the girls first time. I couldn't find my skates, so I just walked on the ice. This was a good thing since I am not very good at skating and would probably end up twisting or hurting something.

Carrie - I love the TM video. Everytime I hear the song I want to dance on a TM, but then I know I will probably end up hurt. Oh, yesterday during my TM run I step too far off to the side and also spilled... Did you ever see the video of that dog that runs on a TM?? How come it is so easy for a dog???

Mel - DH keeps tempting me about working for Disney. They are hiring programmers and he is qualified for the language they need. And they pay well... AND I WOULD LIVE BY DISNEY!! But he hasn't applied yet!!

Judy, does that make us the funky J's????

If this audit goes well, I will be in a good mood. If it doesn't.....

I talked to the guy that was supposed to do Disney last month and pulled out. Remember he was the one that challenged me to start running in the first place. Well anyhooo, he "says" he may be doing the Green Bay 1/2 marathon, but he was afraid to tell me in case he wasn't able to. So maybe I will get my chance to show him up!!!!

Oh no Jen117! Are you ok? You didn't try to pull my move and get back on, did you? I hoped my warning helped at least one person! ;) If you can handle teh heat, tell dh to go for the WDW job!

Judy - :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Craig -You laughed at Martha??????? I'm so disappointed in you. ;)

Martha - I've seen a lot of "Run Like a Girl", stuff but never throw. Way to go for "winning" that one!

Tiff - WTG on teh XT. I have not done XT since before teh New Year when I got sick. Ugh. I need to ge tgoing on that.

CJ - SOrry about the snow makin gyou head fro teh TM!

Happy days are here again :cool1: I am cleared and ready to start my new job  :cool1:

Carrie - No, I didn't get hurt. But I did do a weird trip like dance thing. Then I quickly looked around and the girl next to me was too busy text messaging while she was supposed to be working out. I have done this before, so I think I am getting the hang of staying on my feet. Tho I do think of you everytime I have a TM mishap. The only time I actually fall off the TM is when I get too far back and slip off the end. Is that what you did, because that is really hard to recover from.

Yah Minnie!!!

Minnie congrats what is the new job??? It was probably posted earlier but I have missed so many.

Every time DH and I tell someone what we are going to be doing they just keep saying WHY??? Funny thing is I really can't explain why I want to do it I just do.

Where is everyone staying for marathon weekend??? DH and I are staying at POP.

I think the flu bug that made its' way around the last week or so has actually crossed the boarder and into Canada, I feel crappy today and getting worse as the day moves on. Just had some soup at Timmy's hoping that would help but apparently not. Not sure if it is a stomach bug just feel icky..... I am here till 4:30 then I think home and to the couch with my jammies and big compfy Tink blanket.

We are getting that storm that is making its way through I think the Chicago area right now suppose to hit tonight, can anyone say SNOW DAY!!!...and bummer I will be to sick to shovel the snow:laughing:

OK, back to work for 2.5 hours...

Chat later team/

Kim
