What is the longest you all have put in on the treadmill? I am finding 45 minutes to be my absolute limit right now.

I like to use what psychologists call the Premack Principle. Essentially, you can increase the likelihood of some low-probability behavior if you make some high-probability behavior contingent on the first, aversive behavior. So, for example, I'll get myself to a really good part of a Janet Evanovich novel, and the put it down and forbid myself from seeing what happens next until I finish my LR on the treadmill.

Though actually, I find the reverse principle even more effective -- find something even less desirable than running indoors like a rat on an exercise wheel, and allow myself to avoid that task for a while by running. My longest treadmill runs get done when I have deadlines looming with papers to write or papers to grade. If I ever had to grade a paper I wrote, I'd be able to run for days! :lmao:

I agree, though, that having a good dvd with lots of explosions is also essential if you are going to do an hour and a half or more.

Believe it or not, last year, while at the gym, I actually did a half marathon on the treadmill. It was my first time going for the distance and it was wet and cold outside so I figured why not? I haven't done that since then either.:confused3

Once I did 10miles on a Dreadmill, tried the watching tv, listeing to music. Just felt like I was working harder and going nowhere. I can't do more than about an hour and then, I'm sorry, but would have to hang myself!

Liz: Wow that snow is something! Takes guts to get out there and do anything in it!!

Have a great MOnday everyone!

Good Morning WISH team....

I've been on the treadmill for 4.5 hours on more than one occasion. I hate it, but sometimes just don't have a choice. TV, Radio, anything I try and it's still boring.

Got in a 4 miler yesterday on the treadmill because our roads are still icy/slush so going outside is still not happening. I may try tonight when I get home. Just have to take it slow.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Hi everyone! Yesterday was just a blah day for me in terms of working out as well. Did some power yoga and thats about it. sweat a TON but i still don't feel as good as if I go to the gym! starting off this week hopefully ok though...heading to the gym right after work!

Anyone have a good recipe for groundhog? Good old Punxsutawney Phil says 6 more weeks of winter.:sad2:

In other news....hey Steeler fans--done celebrating yet?

45 minutes of XT for me today.

It really feels like Monday.

Maura

Hey, about that rat... um groundhog - our weatherman said there was NO SUN on that city! So how does he go about giving us 6 more weeks of dreary weather??

I WALKED A MILE TODAY! :cool1: Slow and steady - first time I meant to get something done - in months... ok a year... or probably more... Tomorrow, I'm going to go for 2 miles!

Sandy - Taking son to hospital? I missed soemthing huge. :guilty: COngrats on your other son!!!! DH was asking me wher Tim was at marathon this year.

Mel - COngrats on dd's car and dh's job. Scary world these days.

Debra & Tracy - I just put nbadn aids on my toe, but tape was easier to write. :p Put pad flat on toe nail and wrap around. DOnt' always remeber to do it,. but I only need it on runs of 10 miles or more.

LIf has taken over for me lately. Hope to wii fit tonight and get on track for real tomrorrow.

Got three miles in this morning, partly in the rain.

So the groundhog said more winter?!? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I hope we all have a nice day despite what the groundhog said! :grouphug:

Hi, fellow WISHers!:wave2: I'm somewhat new to the WISH boards, but have been on the DIS for a while.
The DH and I are working on getting ourselves into running/jogging, and hope to run in our first 5K in the next month or so. Right now we are working out in a gym, walking on the treadmill. When it gets warmer and the time changes back we'll probably head back to a local park where it's much less boring!
Anyway...it seems that I'm definitely a beginner compared to most of you! I hope that I can get some advice and tips from all you experienced runners. I can't wait to do our first 5K, with my big goal being to run in one of the Disney races!
As I said, I'm still new to this WISH thing, and I'm so excited about it. If I've left out any important info let me know! I'm looking forward to being a part of one of the teams and logging my time/distance with everyone!

Hey your groundhog, General Beauregard Lee, said an early spring, so that's what I'm going with. :thumbsup2

Yeah - who said Punxsutawney Phil had the last word on this! I'll go with General Lee myself.

I got my first real run since the Donald done yesterday - a nice and easy three miles. The weather cooperated, since it was 50 degrees, but the streets and sidewalks were still icy which made for some treacherous footing. It was hard but good, and I was so happy and grateful to get out there!

We're supposed to get more snow tonight, so it may be back to the gym for the rest of my workouts. Oh well, it was nice to get some spring-like weather for 2 days!

Hey Folks!!

I managed to get in 5 miles just prior to the rains coming this morning. It has been freakin pouring since about noon here. Hopefully not for long.

Tomorrow: marine rescue training at work !!!

I got in 2 miles on the treadmill at home. That was after dinner. It didn't bother me until about 1.75 miles in. I'm glad I was just going for a minimum amount of time instead of distance.

Thanks Carrie & Kristi. I'll keep a check on these sites for the WiiFit.

I'll be off the boards till Wednesday night. Going to NYC to see Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins (if I don't get snowed in before morning:crazy2: )

Terri

I think New York's groundhog, Staten island Chuck, wins this year. Not only did he not see his shadow, but he also bit Mayor Michael Bloomberg while he was out.

So as of now, it seems two out of three groundhogs agree -- no shadow and an early spring. :cool1:
