Wk of December 7 - WISH Walking and Running Club

The Honolulu Marathon EXPO was a bit disappointing compared to years past. Not as many vendors, and no freebies being handed out. GU had free samples, but you had to squirt some out onto a spoon, not packets. Most of the vendors were geared towards the Japanese participants.

Notice how empty the packet and chip pick up was at 5 pm.

The Nike merchandise was pretty big, but very pricey.

The TOP OF WAIKIKI restaurant was the best of the vendors. They were giving out unlimited samples of crab cakes, two different pastas, bread with seafood spread, and Plantation Ice Tea. The server thought my girls were cute, so she told them eat as much as you want until your full. Boy did my girls chow down.

The Runningskirts sisters, Christy and Cindy were there. They said they may not be at the Disney Marathon Weekend, but will be at the Princess Half Marathon weekend.

Is everyone out buying my Christmas presents? Or is it just me here on the WISH boards talking to myself? :lmao:

Jeff - I wasn't out shopping, I was out running. ;)

Ran my 10 miler today. Really pleased with my pace - 10:52. Last time I did this program I ran the 10 miler at a pace of 10:56 so I'm a happy camper! :woohoo:

Came home and took an ice bath, wow those are just plain torture! My right calf is sooo tight right now! I can barely walk down the stairs! I haven't had that problem before... Any advice?

So for the week I did 21 miles and my average pace was 10:47. Good week for me. :)

Another busy weekend ahead of us - DD has a swim meet tomorrow that I'm working, then both girls are going to a gymnastics night out (hoping to finish up my shopping) and then Saturday it is run and off to my parents for a Christmas party. At some point I'll need to bake... :confused3 Hope everyone has a nice weekend, even if you're busy! :grouphug:

Jeff - Good luck this weekend!

Shan - Wow, awesome pace! I hope to see you guys before the half. Did you see the new donald medal in the marathon email newsletter? Pretty cool!

I got out today for 8 with a 10:49 pace. I had to really push myself. This is my only attempt at a back to back before goofy (I am too afraid of injury). I was out at 3pm today and am doing my 20 miler at 6am on sunday. Close enough for a back to back in my mind. I wanted to push myself so I would have tired legs on sunday and get my body ready for the goofy. Ok, just saying that out loud sounds crazy. ;) I know y'all understand!

We have my DD's second gymnastics meet tomorrow bright and early. Have a great weekend all!

Well, for some reason everytime I tried to post earlier today it 'crashed' SO....

I have a five miler tomorrow... I just checked the weather... 28 degrees again! I want to move to Hawaii where you are and it's WARM.

Borrowed Randy's little "fanny pack" (it's smaller then that, but...) I am going to try it tomorrow with the camera in it (guess I better go find the camera)

Good luck Jeff!

Becky... Personally I admire anyone doing the Goofy. That's not happening here. I am taking my Mickey and I am going to be very happy!

Len, Sounds like a good run. My calfs are my problem children. Did you wear heels anytime over the last few days? That always makes mine worse. Your basic calf streches seem to help me. But mine are ALWAYS painful after a long run!

Thanks Carole & Shan.

I don't see any luck in running. Either your trained for the race, or your not.

So I always tell my teammates, "have a great run!" :thumbsup2

Hi everyone!

I have been MIA for a long time. Its just hard to get excited about training when life has sent a couple dozen curve balls at you. Well, a couple of them where just fastballs....

I am going to need all the help I can get to finish the marathon this year. My training is completely derailed thanks to a bout of bronchitis and also sinusitis that won't go away. Plus, dh has been away at school so I have been a single mom (wow hats off to you real single moms) Add all the traveling to see my Dad and attending to details with his death and you have a recipe for disaster at WDW!

So, in the middle of my panic, DH returns home from England. He brought me a neat little trinket that made him think of me: its a diecast model of an English phone booth. For those of you that have run the marathon or read any of my reports on my two Disney marathons, you know how exciting it is to spot the English phone booth at mile 24.5 (give or take) I will try to post a picture later.

Anyway, I am hanging out in here for moral support as I try to salvage my training with 3 weeks to train.

Tracy - Sorry to hear about your uncle. I will keep him in my prayers.
Jeff- GOOD LUCK!! I hope conditions are perfect and that you have a lot of fun!

Cecilia

Cecilia - :grouphug: That's a lot of curveballs AND fastballs! I was feeling sorry for myself - I've been sidelined with some respiratory ailment (doctor now thinks it may have been walking pneumonia) and haven't run since Thanksgiving. I'm about to get on the TM and try as many miles as my body will handle, since he told me not to run outdoors for a few more days. I feel your pain with trying to salvage the training, though. But I can't imagine piling all the other stuff on top!

Jeff - Have a great run! There's no doubt in our minds that you're trained for it!

Guess I need to get off here and on the TM - putting it off is not going to make it go away! DH and DD are out of town for the ENTIRE weekend, so it's just Mystic and me. :cool1: And one of the drugs the doctor gave me was prednisone, so I have unbelievable amounts of energy. I warned the family that I may clean the house from top to bottom while they're away - DD told me to stay out of her room!

Jackie

Cecilia, I somehow missed the news on your dad. So sorry! Hang in there. Remember it's the Disney marathon. It's more about the "fun" then the time so take it easy on yourself. Enjoy the journey! Your times in the past show that you have a nice pad so just take it nice and easy. Stop and say Hi to Mickey and his friends! You will be fine! Your time at Zooma was good!

Jeff, Good luck!

Jackie, I have done the predisone. It gave me lots of energy, but since it also didn't let me sleep it was not a good combo! LOL!

My Galloway Group did 5.5 today including what they call the Magic Mile. You are suppose to run a mile a your best speed without the walk breaks. I am not sure I gave it everything I had, I figured we still had 3 miles to go AFTER that, but I did pretty well. Did it in 9:40. (Those speedy people can quit laughing LOL!) However, next week there is NO one from my group present so for the 9.5 mile run I am going to move up to the faster group. (I think I am crazy!)

Have a good weekend everyone. Off to deal with my Girl Scouts!

Carol - I'm waiting for the no sleep to hit. Fortunately the cough syrup that he prescribed is really good at helping me sleep, so I'm hoping it will offset the damage from the prednisone!
I just checked my Magic Mile time from this season - it was 9:45, so I'm not laughing! My log also noted that the next couple of miles were the longest ever...

Just finished 10+ on the TM. Longest run I've ever done inside, but the good news is I got 'er done! And I still feel like I had something left, but didn't see any need to push too much since I haven't run in a couple of weeks. I'm doing 20 next Saturday with Jeanne and Wendy, and that will have to be it for the serious training. From there I have to trust that the WISH team will get me through 26 on the 11th!

Jackie
