WK of December 28 - WISH Walking/Running Club

I put together a video of us working out today at the park. The beginning was supposed to be like the Sopranos but I don't have mp3 of the theme song (my copy is from iTunes mp4 blah blah blah). The original Sopranos theme video I did is pretty funny, but it'll wait.

Instead, this is us walking around (yeah, I know, it should be "this is we" with the subject pronoun after the verb "to be," but it sounds sucky that way. :-) ) the park. At one point Dh scares the ducks with is quacking. At the end he makes a joke that we never left the parking lot...which we did.

It's short. 2:46, I think.

YouTubed, with a WISH shout out at the end. :)

Congrats to Kira and glad to hear that your family will adjust. I have four and am just a little older than you and I would have a hard time with news of a little one on the way. I can tell you that I snow skied at 5 months with my last one.

This is quick as we are sharing a computer while on vacation in CO. I got on a tread mill tonight and about died. The attitude and dryness are about to get the better of me.

Glad to hear of all the excitement about the upcoming race. You guys rock!

Kira Congrats! That's awesome!!!!

Tricia - Congrats on the 20 miler on the treadmill. I know that's not fun, but way to go. I've done the same with Entourage so I can relate.

AFM I got nothing. No activity the last two days, but back at it tomorrow. Have a great evening everyone.

Mel - Great job sticking with it and completing all 12 miles! Good luck tomorrow at the driver’s license office!

Allyson – WTG completing your 10-miler on the TM!

Tricia – You did it! I can’t imagine doing 20 miles on the TM. Is Simba getting into everything? My cat drove me CRAZY when he was a kitten with all of his shenanigans!

Duckie – Glad you had decent weather for your long walk! Hope the soreness goes away fast.

Debra – That sounds like something I would do. I’m so clumsy, and it seems like it keeps getting worse! WTG on getting your 16 miles in!

Kira – Oh, my goodness, what a wonderful surprise! Congratulations!! I hope you have a smooth, healthy, and enjoyable pregnancy! :goodvibes

Congrats Kira! :yay:

I started my taper yesterday by getting a new pair of shoes. Switched from my Saucony Ride to Asics Cumulus 10. The verdict is out right now. My 3 miler hurt today, but I think I'm still recovering from my 12 miles I ran on Friday.

Today I got a massage. I'm a tad sore right now, but I so needed it!!! The best part is I still have enough on my gift card to get another massage when I get back from the half. :thumbsup2

Kira Wow! Santa brought you quite the present!

Cecilia I'm at mile 11 water stop. I can always bring a thermos!

Tracy Your activity tires me out reading it. And no offense, but I was really hoping the Dolphins would lose to the Jets yesterday so the Pats could get in.

I can't shake this feeling I have that I am now totally underprepared for the half NEXT SATURDAY! Today I'm going to run 5 at the gym and then some weights. Will nurse a trained back muscle and the recurrinig knee problem.

Nervous Maura :scared1: :scared:

Ang - Simba for the most part is a good kitten. I had to put him in the "cat room" last night - our bathroom use to be a bedroom and is the room that the cats litter, food and were we put them for the night - since cats LOVE to run around at night and we need our sleep. The other 2 have been mellow lately and haven't been having to be put up at night. But last night I had to put the kitten in the bathroom because he wouldn't leave me alone and my DH was getting frustrated with him running around and clawing on things. So I think he might get more fiestier the longer he is here. Of course now he is sleeping like the other 3. LOL Thanks for asking.

No training for me today. I plan to do 5 miles tomorrow though. My lower legs are a little sore but not too bad. I used my Stick and rubbed some of it out.

Hope everyone is enjoying their taper (except for me its not going to feel too much like a taper this week since I did nothing last week. Have a good Monday.

Maura! You have power! You're not cold! I'm so glad. I saw the news reports and was worried you'd be a popsicle.

I can't believe we leave in ten days!

Okay, I have to go back and catch up with the thread, but I wanted to post really fast and say:

Congratulations, Kira!!!! How exciting for you and your family!! My due date for Carter was 8/12 and I was signed up for the half marathon this past January, so I know what you are going through. My ob/gyn advised me not to run the half (and I didn't), BUT he is not an athlete and told me that he was erring on the side of caution because he was unfamiliar with long distance running and what kind of effect that could have on the baby. Personally, I think I would have been fine running the half, just adjust your pace and be extra careful if it's hot that day. I did run 7 miles when I was about 5 or 6 weeks pregnant (before my doctor told me not to do long distance) and didn't have any problems, so what's another 6 miles? What do your kids think about the baby? Are they over the moon excited too? I am just so excited for you and your family!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Okay, I'm off to get caught up on the thread and then I'll be back to post. My New Year's resolution is to stay caught up with the Wish thread, I've been missing you guys!!!

Congratulations, Kira! I am so excited for you!

Hello to everyone else! :goodvibes It sounds like everyone is doing what they have to do to get themselves to the start line in about 11 days. :woohoo: I am really excited to have my last LR behind me -- I did 12 on the TM this past Friday. It wasn't too bad since I had my kindle and finished reading "Jane Eyre" and I had my ipod. And my friend/training partner, Patty, joined me for the last hour or so. FUN! Now I can turn all of my attention to wedding planning. I'll fit in 6 miles this weekend, but the rest of my workouts will be mostly cross-training and short 3-4 mile runs.

Can't wait to see everyone in 10 days and to meet all of our new teammates! :grouphug:

Hey all! Haven't posted on here in a long time. I have no real excuses, just life being as crazy as it can be.

First of all, Kira--congratulations! How exciting (and unexpected, right?) for you! :)

I won't even try to catch up from the weeks and weeks that I've missed, and there are a ton of new people on here that I don't even recoginze yet. I hope to get to meet many of you next weekend.

My training's been ok, not great, but I think it will get me through the races. The whole "new baby" thing has thrown both Krista and I off slightly in our training, but I think we're finally adjusting and learning how to manage the new responsibilities while also making time for ourselves. So....that means we're both going to train hard enough in 2009 to show up at next year'sr marathon seeded in the elite corrals. Bring it on, Adriano Bastos ;) Or something like that.

I know everyone's in taper mode right now, and for you first timers, I'm sure you're going nuts with anticipation, nervousness, excitement, etc, etc, etc. Don't worry, it's normal. I remember going through the same thing and I know most of the others here do, too. Just know that your training has brought you this far, and it will carry you through. Crossing that finish line will be a life-changing experience, and sharing it with WISHers makes it all the more amazing. Have a great "last week," everyone, and listen to your body. Rest if you need it. Hydrate well. Sleep well. Repack the running clothes in the suitcase 27 times. :) And I can't wait to see you guys in 11 days!

Steve

Racey Tracy: I'm old enough that the phrase "Bite me" has entirely different connotations. Maybe that's why I'm unable to get into the Twilight series. It sounds like your taper strategy is pretty ambitious--you're working in reverse if you move from 6 to 8! It'll be cool to see your racewalking in action in under two weeks!

Jackie: Oooh, you're at the same water stop. Very cool! I really like the names you have for your pups--and that they're not all matchy, matchy. I know what you mean about not immediately bonding with pets. We have two cats, and it took me a while to love the one. (She's too much like me...stubborn and spoiled.) But I can't imagine live without her.

Allyson: Ah, the C25K days. Isn't that wild--you've progressed so much (and I've backslid). Doesn't that just give you the confidence boost you deserve? I, too, am a big fan of the candy, er, sports beans.

Ms. Duckie: I just watched your video of the 10 miler. Love the music, love the fact I felt I was right there with you and the 10 miles flew by! ;) The Noah has the right idea about eating; you have the right idea about stretching, and look great in your WISH gear!

Joan: Enjoy your CO vacation, with or without the TM!

Chris: I love Entourage! After all, I'm a Turtle. :lmao:

Ang: I like to think we're not clumsy, just directionally challenged. And I don't have this strange preference for staying upright and vertical. It ignores too many other interesting directions. :thumbsup2

Shan: Good luck breaking the shoes in. Did the massage include your sore feet?

Maura: Coffee in a thermos for Cecilia? Now THAT's service! Take care of your back and knee, and good luck on your 5 miler.

Tricia: Ah, Simba's settling in and feeling fiesty. You've got the right system with the bathroom. DOOD and I lock ourselves in and give the cats the run of the place. Yeah, we're the alphas. :rolleyes1

Cam: Good luck with the rest of your VR planning--how fun! :yay: It sounds like the Kindle is good for your training. What do you like about it, if I may ask? (Always susceptible to the lure of new shiny toys...).

Steve: You're already an elite in my book! And fatherhood suits you...look at you, being the cool dad and offering your wisdom on the upcoming races. Carter's a lucky boy! :goodvibes

Hi to Cecilia, Laurie, Tricia, Mel, Jeff, Terri, Kristi, Krista, John, and anyone I may have missed!

As for me: Rest day today. Did a bit of running around (not literally) for the trip. And there's more last-minute stuff to do. My BIL is surprising my ILs by flying down to the marathon for the weekend. Not to watch us, but because his flights for Christmas were delayed and he's doing a belated holiday with the parents. It's a surprise, too, so shhhhh. They'll be so excited to see him they won't miss me at all--so I'm free and clear for as many WISH events as I can squeeze in. :woohoo:

Steve-great advice (especially about the repacking!).

Debra, that is so cool that you have time for WISH stuff! And the part about DH eating while I'm training is a reference to training for the Minnie, where we would go out mallwalking before the mall opened and he'd be standing in line for something (just to see what the line was for, no less) or standing in the center of the mall eating a snack and watching me walk (and he still literally ran circles around me at the Minnie, with NO TRAINING!).

Hello everyone!

Just a quick "drive by" Got back from a week of vacation and now I am way behind everywhere!

Kira, CONGRATS and Good Luck. Did I read right and this will be #5?:worship: :worship:

Steve, I am suppose to be packing? Heck I won't pack until late 1/7 or early 1/8. (I am a professional at this packing bit!)

I did my last long run on 12/20 because I knew that last week was a lost cause! Went to Jamica for Christmas. VERY VERY warm! I did get one short run in and cross trained by climbing the Duns River Falls. Got to get out there some this week and get a few short runs in. My group is doing 11 miles Sat so I have to skip that. I do NOT have the kind of body that can recover by the week after. (Actually that's another reason I wasn't worried about the 12/20 date on the long run. I tend to be a "slow recover" I have discovered... Things I never thought I would know about myself!)

After all my travel hassels this week I am hoping getting to Disney is easier, but just in case I am taking Randy's release and a copy of his DL with me when I fly down on Thursday. That way if his plane is late Friday I can pick up his credentials. (My mother was delayed 24 hours on her way to Jamica and then was 3 hours later getting home last night! YIKES!)

I won't be at the Pop meet (see the Friday arrival above) but I am going to try to come cheer at the 5K. I have to do some work Friday, but the nice thing is my company is on California time so they won't ever know I am MIA!:rotfl2:

Hope everyone has a good week!

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone! My midwife has officially OK'ed my running the half :cool1: so I am good to go! I'm just going to take it easy and listen to my body.

In fact, I have to say it's really nice to take off all the pressure about finishing in a particular time, and just go out there to have a great time. It's also the first race I'm doing with my husband (and our first time in WDW without the kids), so it's special for that reason as well.

Everyone sounds like they're doing great with their training! I am SO EXCITED to be leaving in just 10 days that I can hardly believe it.

Happy tapering!

Debra: Hey I'm right there with you on the "bite me" phrase which I know quite well and used alot at the time. I also used to say, "Kiss my grits" Do you remember that one??
Can't wait to hang out, I'll be sure to try and show off my racewalking for you.

Looks like it might be very cool or cold in Orlando that weekend. Looks like a cold front will be moving through starting Wednesday. Will have to see how the forecast keeps changing. It can and will change up to about 2 days before the day you are looking at.

Maura: About the 6 miles then 8 miles thing... This whole year for me has almost been a constant training for some kinda Half Marathon or 15k or something. I feel doing two 6 milers in a row before the half is kinda "lazy" for me. I will have another Half Marathon two weeks after Disney, the Miami ING Half Marathon. I just want to keep the miles up so my body is use to that.

Tracy
