WK of December 28 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Well, I'm glad I didn't order another Minnie skirt. I bought the one with the brief underneath before they came out with that print with the shorts. I would have preferred the shorts underneath. I bought a pair of black compression shorts that I wear with it. So does the fabric seem thinner than previous skirts? I have a terrible time with all those running skirts. I have yet to find a brand that the shorts didn't ride up on me and cause chaffing. :confused3

It's a thinner "shinier" fabric. After two wearings and washings (hang dry etc) the waistband feels too big and the shorts which originally were doing OK are NOT going to stay in place. These have VERY low lycra content for "compression shorts" (My swimsuit has more!:lmao: ) IMHO they are not going to work for me.

I did just order a pair from skirtgoddess.com I will let you know how those do!

Anyone looking for a rental car for the marathon? Kristi?

I just got a good price on a rental car from Avis for marathon weekend. $49 for a compact car in January.

"Please use AWD X185000 to take advantage of this offer"

Didn't get Avis, but Alamo has a $10/day weekend fare for compact through premiuim. Just got a 4 day rental of a premium car (Thurs-Mon) for $68--tax included!! Woohoo! More money to spend on me while I'm at Disney!

thanks for posting that Maura

I just got the Alamo message before leaving to take DD10 to tae kwon do

I switched my reservation and got a premium car for 3days for $50

I couldn't get the Avis deal for the weekend, must be sold out. (And I have refused to ever pay Alamo a PENNY ever again LOL!)

Debra--guess I don't need taper madness to buy more gear--I just ordered a new pair of shoes!:rotfl:

Dave--another 1/2er just for fun--maybe you can hang with Scott and I!

Did 4 ish miles today after 5-ish yesterday. Tomorrow crosstraining, with more running on Thursday. Good times.

Maura--Thanks for the Alamo weekend rate, I just saved about $70 by switching my reservation. I went from having a compact for about $125 to having a premium for $68!! :cool1: :cool1:

Carol--just out of curiosity, why no Alamo?? I have used them for years and never had a problem.

My issue occured at least 15 years ago at the ATL airport so it's not really relevant anymore. But after waitng TWO hours in the line we then got sent outside where we were told it would be at least two MORE hours for a car! So I went back in and told them to cancel the reservation.

Next month a $500 charge on the card for this car I never saw! (And was suppose to be about $100)

My corporate TA was able to get her rep to deal with it. I said NEVER AGAIN and meant it. I will walk first!

But I did get the Avis deal. I tried again after I realized the code I was using was not the same as the one posted. Turns out it was defaulting my corp ID into the thing.

Now to run numbers. The deal didn't work until Monday. I have to go the airport Sunday anyway so I could "trade" Will have to see what I can get for Sunday and Monday (Have to have a car Sunday as I am going to visit my dad for a few hours) Hmm....

I ran my last 8 1/2 miler through Waikiki for the year. Now off to run on Maui.

It was nice where I was, but lots of heavy rain and lightning in central Oahu and the north shore.

9 days to the 5K
10 days to the half
11 days to the full

Thanks for the Alamo deal posting! Scott just booked us a car for marathon weekend--now we're not going to be at the mercy of the dreaded Disney busses!:cool1:

dreaded buses? I feel just the opposite. I LOVE the buses and hate driving!

We spent thanksgiving at the park and most days we used buses but one day we drove and it took 30 minutes longer to get to the parks because of the lines for parking.

I left before the light show and still had a nightmare getting out of the parking lot. Give me the buses anyday!

However, a car does give you the advantage of running to a store to get water and bananas. The savings on those alone might pay for the rental...

Maura,

Thanks for the heads up on the Alamo deal. I switched from Enterprise, which was a economy size, to a premium with Alamo.

We take Magical Express in on Wednesday, I pick up the car Thursday morning at Dolphin Hotel, and return it Monday morning. Gets us to the start line of all three races, without having to catch the last 4 am bus.

We'll bus it Monday and Tuesday.

Cost of my car $58.42!

8 days to the 5K
9 days to the half
10 days to the full

Everyone have a safe New Year's Eve.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe new year. I have sworn off alcohol until after the marathon. Not sure if that is what made me feel sick last weekend but I am not taking any chances (and I only had a little because I don't really drink anyway - and still felt sick - so none until after and then bring on the Patron - well for a shot at least!!)

As for me I was only able to get in 3.5 miles yesterday. I felt a blister on the bottom of my toe and didn't want to make it worse. I was glad I got at least something in even though it was on the TM and not outside. If we get out of work early enough today then I might do 3 miles to the beach and back otherwise I will be getting it in tomorrow before I put on my small turkey and black eyed peas and ham hock.

Again happy new year WISH team - can't believe its almost 2009!!!

Happy New Year WISHers! Tomorrow marks one year that I made the decision to make exercise a regular part of my life! This is the first time I've *ever* stuck with it!

Did 3.1 on the treadmill today. Just keep visualizing running through that beautiful castle and getting that Donald medal. I can't believe it is just over a week away!!!

Allyson

I'm just back from lunch at Subway. The sandwich artist must have known I was a distance runner. When I asked for mustard only, she put at least 3 times the normal amount one would like on their sandwich. LOL, I ate it, thinking it's good practice for the marathon, and that it was a magnesium boost to my system.

Did anyone catch the Food Channel's show Unwrapped, that showed the ice cream vending machine we talked about months ago? Moobella http://moobella.com/

Pretty cool machine that mixes, flash freezes, and serves fresh made ice cream in 45 seconds. I'd like to see those here, especially along my running routes!

Weather Forcast update:

Wed: High 77 Low 49 Few Showers 30% rain
Thurs: High 71 Low 49 Sunny 0% rain
Fri: 72 Low 50 Sunny 0% rain
Sat: HIgh 73 Low 51 Sunny 0% rain.

This comes from the weather channel which is a bit different from the Accuweather forcast.

Hope everyone had a safe New Years!!!!

I am waiting for Garmi to charge up for a 4 or 5 mile walk. I'll let you know.
In one week I will have been on the road for about an hour heading to see Mickey Mouse!!! I will start packing a few things today.

Racey Tracy

Oooh Tracy, I like that forecast much better. I think I'll stop looking at Accuweather!

I am trying to decide if I am going to try my new cold-weather running gear out today. It's 19 degrees right now - yikes! I think I'll let it warm up a bit before I venture out.

Have a Happy New Year! It's almost exactly one week until we leave! :cool1:

i just finished my final LR before next weekend--10.5 miles and I have to say WOOHOO! Despite not enough sleep (listening for the kids to come in--one at 4:30, one who didn't!), I had the best run. Weather was about 20 degrees with wind of 10 mph. I took it slow--partly because the roads are not entirely clear, and partly because I really wanted this run to be good--physically and mentally. Finished in 1:45. I finally felt like a runner!

May every one's new year start out on a high note like mine did! NOW I feel like I'm ready to go and I have earned my taper.

Maura

Hi, WISH team!!!

Kira...congratulations!!

Everyone....I'm so impressed with everyone getting their last LR in, esp. some on treadmills! That's some mental toughness!!

Have a great time at WDW in just over a week! I'm sad I won't be there this year. :sad1: You'll all do just fine and have some fun stories to share when you get back.

I'm just still working on my shoulder rehab. 6 weeks since surgery...still very limited in what I can do. Hoping for a healthy 2009!

Happy New Year!!
