Wk of Dec 24--WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - I usually would have the same clean up attitude as you. But my parents are stopping over to feed the cat and you can't get in the front door right now. DD6 has her fort of stuff all there. Plus, I would be afraid they would trip and fall while they are there and no one would know!! :rotfl2:

Cam - my girls are 3 1/2 and 6 and WOW did grandma ever spoil them this year. Plus they both got craft kits and now their are beads and stuff everywhere!!!

Oh and I didn't get the Mickey Crocs. They were back ordered too far, so I decided to wait. I bought the girls a pair on ebay and got them at a steal, but the womens were going for over $50 a pair. That's double the price, so I was cheap and waited.

This is my rest day (self imposed) after my LR yesterday.

I am a little "tight" following yesterdays 13.81 (total) effort. However, I am feeling pretty good considering. The course I ran yesterday was full of ups and downs, hills, etc. I think I would have faired better (time wise) on a flatter course.

I am planning on a LR tomorrow after work. I'll post my results.

I am looking forward to seeing and competing in the race(s) with everyone in Disney. I hope everyone has an uneventful and relaxing trip to where Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto live.

Happy Taper, Happy New Year!

Howard

Well, it looks like there are at least a few of us at work today (judging by the number of posts). :)

Cam--thanks for the tips and the updates on the packing list. I'm scared to start packing. Krista and I were talking last night about how much we still have to do before we leave for WDW. And we just keep putting it off... :rolleyes1

Mark--good job on the 5.5 miles! And nice pace! Isn't it great when you find out your run is further than you thought it was??

Terri--I don't have any advice on the blisters, but I just wanted to say I hope you can figure out what works so that you'll be comfortable for the race.

Sunny--as everyone else has said, good to hear you're feeling better. I'm glad you'll be able to make it this year.

Howard--nice job on the run.

Craig--good luck tearing up the course. You're going to crush your time from last year. But if I pass a spectacle at Mile 18 of a runner rolling around on the ground and the fire department hosing off his running shoes, I may stop to see if I recongize the face. :)

This tapering is getting a little crazy. I just feel sooooo sluggish and just....blah. I know this is normal, and I'm starting to remember this feeling from last year, but man--will the race just get here already?!!

Other than that, training's going well. Rest day today, then 5 miles tomorrow. Easy weekend of 3 Saturday and 7 Sunday. Then a couple of short runs, a few more days of rest, and then..... :cool1:

Good luck with this last week, everyone.

Steve

Time to catch up on everyone. Lynnda has a huge ear infection  . The doctor couldn’t even look at the ear because it was swollen. Apparently the ear drops are made with gold and diamonds because the copay for them was $40 :scared1: . I asked the cashier, when the credit card machine asked if the total was good, if I said that the total wasn’t ok, would it go down. She apparently wasn’t having a good night since she didn’t seem amused.

Judy – Congrats on getting Mist. I am not sure I want Billy to find out that people actually do get horses for Christmas though. He is enthralled by them after riding one at a Christmas party this year. He had a blast and wants to do it more. He probably wouldn’t mind having one in our backyard. :rolleyes1

Vic – Your dogs look great. We couldn’t get a bandana tied on ours if we tried. He would run and hide from us if we ever tried something like that. Good job on the training. From my experience all the antibiotics do is slow you down a little. So as long as you don’t go for speed records right now, there shouldn’t be a problem. However I also get hit with a pillow for doing stupid things so this might be one of them.

Mark – Good job on the runs. Glad the Nike thing seems to work.

Cam – Glad the stress test went well. Is there any way not to overdo it when keeping up with an active 3 year old. I still haven’t found a slow button on him and he goes at one speed all day long.

Terri – I probably wouldn’t sand it down since it might cause more damage during the runs. I have just left blisters there and let them do whatever they wanted. I do put on more body glide and wear decent socks afterwards though.

Dave – Hope you are able to get over your cold quickly. Don’t overdo it right now and let your body recover before the races.

Sunny – Glad you are feeling better. You are allowed to drown your sorrows in cookies as long as they have some chocolate in them. ;)

Craig – Good to hear from you again. Hope your shoes work out better this year. I figure the fires should be out well before I get by.

Susie – Hope you figure out how to get your legs feeling better again.

Jen – Good job on running on the track. I would definitely lose count after several laps and then wind up either going too long or stopping figuring it wasn’t worth the effort. Although it would make running in bad weather a little easier. Glad you were able to get through.

Howard – Good job on the anti-taper long run. Hope the rest of the training continues to go well.

Heather – Wishing you pixie dust on the test results. :wizard:

Steve – Work, what’s that. We are relaxing (at least one is) and taking it easy at home.

Bill

Hi everybody!!!!! Well, the marathon dreams have started and here's the warning: they are WEIRD!! I had 3 dreams in the same night over the weekend, in the first one we were all in the corrals waiting for the marathon to start, the sun was already up and it was SO hot, I could feel the sweat rolling down my back. The second dream was about Bill and Lynnda, they were both running in the marathon and were at the Wish dinner. They had planned on driving home that night and driving back to WDW for the marathon the next morning. We were all trying to convince them the get a room on property. I guess that means I am worried about Bill getting to the start line for the marathons. :thumbsup2 The third dream was again the morning of the marathon, but the sun was up, not sure what time the marathon started! My sisters and I were dressed in running clothes and had our race numbers pinned on and we were over by the Grand Floridian. We saw a bunch of people running (not marathoners, just people running while on vacation) and I started heckling them and saying "you're not real runners, real runners would be running in the marathon!!" :scared1:  :scared1: What in the world does that dream say about me????? :confused3 :confused3

Dave--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I hope that you are feeling better soon. Stephen and I started with a touch of something over the weekend. I had a terrible headache all weekend and a sore throat on Monday and Tuesday. Stephen got us some Airborne last night (by the way, the hot apple cider flavor is NASTY) and I'm feeling much better today.

Heather--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your chest!! I hope it's nothing serious. The first thing I thought of when I read it was it's your gallbladder. Have you had that checked yet?

Judy--Do you want to come and pack for me? I am so unprepared for this trip. Between being out of town this coming weekend, trying to get the Christmas decorations down, and packing for the trip, I'm going to be EXHAUSTED!!!! Oh, and Charlie is very sweet, what a great guy for buying Mist for you.

Vic--Your boys are precious!! So cute! Hines would LOVE to spend the day with them, I bet the 3 of them could get into some serious mischief!!! Glad you are feeling better.

Terri--Sorry about your blister issues!!

Sunny--I am so glad that you are feeling better, I have been so worried about you. There's nothing wrong with drowning your sorrows in a little cookie therapy! :)

Mark--Great run! Do you like the Nike Ipod thing? The commercials look pretty cool.

Cam--You are in amazing shape!! That's awesome about them having to readjust the machines up.

I know I missed a bunch of people, but know that I love you all and I'll be seeing you soon!!!!!

Terri

If you are concerned about the blisters re-appearing and making your race miserable, you can do try the following, which saved me last year on full marathon day protecting the mega-blisters I developed on half marathon day:

White athletic tape on the skin covering the area (last year since I had gotten them bad just the day before I put Second Skin on first, a cool and moist plastic which you can find at pharmacies and is truly wonderful, then the tape)

Vaseline or another lubricant on the tape over the hot spot

Thin layer sock

Double layer sock (the thin sock sticks to the foot, the double layer's outside sticks to the shoe the many layers slip against each other reducing friction)

Vaseline or lubricant on the outside sock, over the hot spot

Vaseline or lubricant on the inside of the shoe, on the rubbing spot

Good luck with the blisters.

It's great to hear so many people feeling ready to go in just a few days.

For you, Cam, I ran in the new flats today, 6 miles, with no trouble. Mile 1 at the track in 9:40, then off to the paths and roads of town, then mile 6 in 8:40. I'll get 2 more runs in them before race day, so I'm confident they won't give me any trouble on marathon Sunday. I know, famous last words here, but Asics lasts and materials have never required a break-in period for me.

Thanks for everyone's cute comments on my new-found speed. Sadly my fast races were all run a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I must admit I would really like to finish 13 minutes, 1/2 a minute per mile, faster than this past January. I think it is doable, but so many things, including a too-warm and humid day, can keep it from happening. The best part is I'll get to find out in 11 days.

My advice for being in the parks the day before is just don't commando it. Walking around is fine, but don't push the pace. Do try to minimize the standing part, hard to do at WDW, but that seems to take it out of my legs the most. I suspect I'll be out in one of the parks Saturday evening until about 8, then back in the room resting for the next morning.

Best

Craig

Craig - I am so relieved to hear you had a good run in your new shoes! :thumbsup2

Krista -- not sure what your dreams meant. I haven't had a marathon dream yet, but had a very bizarre non-marathon dream the other night, involving a huge mutant black lobster that fell out of a bag from the seafood market when I was dumping steamed shrimp onto a platter. The lobster thing tried to bite me and I was scrambling backwards away from it. It was one of those dreams where you are so terrified and trying to scream but the scream is stuck in your throat.

Now you all know what you only suspected -- I am one weird chick!

Well this is probably my last post since we leave in the a.m. I have clothes spread out everywhere. Maybe they will make their way into a suitcase soon. I can't believe it's time for us to leave already. I feel so undertrained (because I am ) for this and dont even care any more. I am hoping to go see John Bingham to get some motivation back.

I will see you all next Friday at POP. Have a great week & safe travels!

Tiff -- Have a great trip and don't wear yourself out before we see you next Friday! Travel well and hopefully I'll run into you at John's presentation, if not before.

Hi All,

Sounds like everyone had a good Christmas. I’ve enjoyed reading about all those running related gifts. I got a couple of books, “The Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Running” & “26.2 Marathon Stories”, Bose headphones for my ipod, and I guess I can count the CD’s since I will be adding some of the songs to my running/walking playlists.

Vic – Love the picture of your boys. They look handsome in there bandanas.
Dave – I’m glad the surprise for you princess’ went so well! I’m sure their reaction was priceless.
Kristi – Love the travel size rolls of toilet paper. :lmao:
Cam – Thanks for adding to the packing list. I would probably forget half of what I need with out your list. I’m glad your test today went well. Thanks for the advice on taking it easy in the world before the race. We are planning on taking it very light. Wed night we will head over to MGM to see the Osbourne Lights. Thursday afternoon will be the Expo before picking Sean up at the airport then dinner at Ohana. Friday is breakfast at Kona Café then we are going offsite for a couple of hours. Will try to get back to the Expo in the afternoon to hear “The Penguin” speak then off to meet everyone at POP.
Judy – What an awesome gift from Charlie! What time is your ADR on Friday at Kona? We will be there at 7:30am.
Heather – pixiedust: that everything goes well with your stress test!
Bill – Good choice not running outside in the lightning. pixiedust: to Lynnda that her ear infection clears up quickly.
Jen – Wow! Lots of laps on that indoor track. :worship:
Susie – I’m with the others that haven’t heard of that muscle before, but lots of pixiedust: that is feels better quickly!
Craig – Best of luck with the new shoes. I’m looking forward to that fiery glow behind you. :firefight
Sunny – So very glad to hear your lungs are healing! :thumbsup2
Monica – John(DH) & I are leaving on Tues the 2nd. We are driving. Will stop in GA to have dinner with one of our best friends daughter that is living in GA. We’ll stay overnight somewhere in Southern Georgia or Northern Florida. Wed we will arrive in WDW staying that first night at Coronado Springs then the next 4 nights at the Poly and then the last 4 nights at the Boardwalk. We will start to head home on Fri Jan 12th. Sean(DS) is joining us for the Half. He will arrive on Thurs evening & will fly home on Sun morning. We’ll miss you this year, but hope to get to meet you next year.
Terri – No advise on the blister, but pixiedust: that it doesn’t give you any trouble.

Someone had asked last week (sorry, don’t remember who it was) where everyone would be cheering from for the Full – We will be leaving very early (before 5:30am) to take Sean to the airport. John & I will then head over to the Beach Club Character Breakfast parking at either Yacht & Beach Club or the Boardwalk (whichever we can get to). We will then be out there on the boardwalk in front of the Beach Club somewhere to cheer everyone on.

pixiedust: to everyone that is sick to feel better and everyone that is not sick to stay that way!!!

Starting to feel like I am getting a cold too. Chest has been congested the last couple of days. Got in 6 miles on Sunday. Had to walk the last 2 miles. Hip was hurting. Don’t know what is up with that. Felt better the next morning. Yesterday was 2.24 miles in 30 mins on the treadmill at the gym for a 13:24mpm. Tonight will hit the gym again for some CT. Either the elliptical or the bike. Can’t believe we leave in 6 days and the race is in 10 days. It feels like I just finished getting all the Christmas decorations up and now I have to get them all down (or at least most) before leaving on Tuesday. The most important to get down I think will be the tree. It is a live tree and if I don’t get it down I think we will come home to a mountain of pine needles. :lmao:

Total driveby, as I shoudl be unpacking/finding the living room floor. :rolleyes1

Had a wonderful holiday! was even able to get 40 min in on teh TMtoday!!

Guess what I got for Christmas? A CHampion Chip! Yay!! One less thing to forget race morning! :p

Hope you all had wonderful holidays! I'll try to catch up soon!

Thanks for worrying about us. We are staying on property (All Star Sports I think) so the only problem will be waking up early enough. Although I am not quite sure how Lynnda (and possibly Steve) will feel about other girls dreaming of me though...:lmao: :rotfl2:

Bill

Bill

We both know I'm no competition for Lynnda!! ;) :)

Hi Team! I just got home from the Community Center and now I am refueling on left over chicken thai pasta. Maybe not the healthiest choice, but SO good!! I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and I think my legs are starting to heal themselves, which makes me very, very :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: . Last week on the elliptical I was keeping the resistance set on 3, but I could only keep my cadence between 120-130, closer to 120. Today I did 10 minutes at 3 resistance, 10 minutes at 4, and then 10 minutes at 3 and the entire time I kept my cadence between 140-150 and towards the end I was up at 160. I hope this is a good sign that my IT band is on the mend!!

Who thinks we are going to have a mini meet during John Bingham's time at the Expo on Friday?? It sounds like a lot of us are going to be there!!

Greetings from Sickville, which apparently is just down the road from Taperville. It was my DH's turn to go to the hospital today and have a chest xray and blood tests. The doctor thought he had pneumonia. Thank goodness it is "only" acute bronchitis. He is taking 2 antibiotics and has an inhaler. I stayed home from work today to take care of the girls and let him rest. He is supposed to be going Goofy next week. We are still planning on going to WDW next Friday morning, but we may have to cancel our trip if: (a) his bronchitis does not clear up quickly; and/or (b) my stress test does not go well. I have been sneezing all day, and my eyes are watery. I hope that I am not coming down with a cold too. Darn it, I want that Mickey medal! The good news is that my chest pain has disappeared. I will ask my doctor about the gallbladder possibility. :confused3

Sunny - I am so glad to hear you are feeling better!

Heather - please keep on top of this chest pain you are having. I agree with whoever else said about having your gallbladder checked. I had an attack when Zack was 3 weeks old. My pain was in the chest and I thought I was having a heart attack & was going to die. It took about 4 doses of morphine to get me where the pain was bearable. My case was extreme, but gallbladder problems can cause pain in places like the chest,
when most people have the side pain.

Judy - that Charlie is pretty awesome!!!

Bill - more :wizard: for Lynnda!

I think I finally had a crazy taper dream. It wasn't about racing, but about my boyfriend Johnny...

I was in Target yesterday and they have some new lime green champion running/workout clothes. I just may have to go back and buy some. There's a Target about a mile or 2 from my grandparents' house in FL, so a stop there may be in order early next week.

We are leaving to drive to FL (straight through) as soon as I get home from work on Saturday. I have about a billion things to do before then, and no motivation. ACK! :scared1: I am such a procrastinator, but it always seems to come together. Which, is why I continue to procrastinate!

So far I have avoided getting sick.. It seems everyone around me is sick. I think I am going to start the airborne before we leave. And bring the Zicam along on the trip for good measure.

notice there is no wogging to report... :rolleyes1 :sad2: :scared:

ETA: Heather - more pixie dust for your DH! Thank goodness it wasn't pneumonia. I am hearing alot of that lately, and I don't like it! Both of you get tons of rest, ok?

Lily-- Could you help with this? The board update has lost the www.disboards.com/WISH link which is on the back of our shirts.

I had a wonderful Christmas with the family. My lungs are definitely healing. I hope to try a short wog tomorrow. It's been two weeks and a day since I ran or did any exercise. And to top it off, I've been drowning my sorrows in cookies:sad2: I might have to roll myself down the course!

Sunny
I put out the request to make it work.

Sunny, I am glad you are feeling better. You can walk with me. I'll get you over the line.

Heather, good luck with the stress test. I know you will be fine.

Cam, ouch on the blood gas test. I can't believe you withstood that. I am a pain baby, but thankfully haven't awakened during procedures. Just most meds do not work with me.

Vic, love seeing your boys. Very handsome!

Tiff, I know you are gone already, see you Friday and safe traveling. Happy New Year!

Howard, good job on the training. I know you know, but take it easy if you must on the LR tomorrow. That was a great thing you did to go out with Cam to train. How lucky you guys are.

Susie, ouch, I hope you heal quickly.

Blisters, ouch, new shoes! Yay! I think...brave at this time. Great times I'm reading about. You guys will be so done by the time I'm crossing that line.

Sorry about those I've left out. It was fun to read about all the Christmas gifts. (DH and I exchange season theater tickets for Broadway series here and the vacas we take.)

Dave, it was cute what the little Princesses said.

I'm reading everyone's plans and packing activities and I am really in panic mode. I've got tons to do and must make sure I list where I need to be Friday-Monday so I don't forget what we've got going. I hope to meet up with many WISH friends. Please don't be afraid to say Hi if you "think" you see me! ;) when we're there.

It's been a madhouse for me. I've at least tried to read, but haven't had a moment to post til now. I'm the only one in the office trying to hold everything together and transition files to the new year and prep for our upcoming meetings. I manage our Web site and must transition that too. No OT permitted. DH got sick Christmas Eve with iritis. It's been busy here trying to track down a doctor. It's a painful eye thing and he needs prednisone drops. sp? Thankfully he had a 6-year old stash of the medicine to get him through until we tracked down a doc today. Last time the ER folks couldn't help and just patched his eye and left him to the pain until Opthamologist apt. He got a fresh refill today and he's good to go!

I've got to make sure I've got the first of the month bills taken care of before we leave so I don't come back to bill collectors or the repo man. Packing this weekend to make sure I've got it. I probably won't get to put my name on my WISH shirt. Maybe I'll remember to take a Marker with me to do it after landing.
:scared1: Almost time!

Thanks to everyone who is not going to make the trip with us for your support. It means a lot.

Orthotics are cool!!!!

I got mine today and got them fitted. Doc said to wear them for an hour tonight before I ran, then to do my normal 40 min and keep going with my taper. Best TM run ever!! I kept up a pace I haven't been able to maintain yet. But...horror of horrors...I accidentally pulled out the emergency key on the TM right around 20 min, losing ALL of my data :headache: So no idea how far or what my overall pace was

For Xmas, I got the Dr. Maffertone book that Mike's been talking about for training with the heart rate monitor. I also got The Complete Calvin and Hobbes (not training related but very cool) and a Snow Miser bobblehead who's now living in my office.

I also got a sinus infection so I'm now running with antibiotics, too. So far, it's much better than running with the technicolor farmer blow I had on Saturday :crazy2:

:grouphug: and :wizard: :wizard: for everyone who's ill or healing. Seems like we've had a rough year of injuries and sicknesses. More :wizard: for a better year next year!

I work tomorrow but then off until Tues. I'll be working on the lime green WISH sign to help us find each other at Pop. I'll also have it with me at BCV while cheering on the full racers. Last year, I put the sign in the car and didn't have it for the full. I think a lot of people were wondering who the crazy person yelling their name was!

We don't leave for WDW until Friday, the 5th, so we may see some of you at the Expo in the afternoon. What time is John Bingham speaking?

Forgot to post this earlier:

For anyone looking for a fleece blanket to stretch on, my mom found 50" x 60" ones at Walmart today for $3.87.

Do I have a great scream team or what? :D

Heather - Sendign tons of prayers and pixie dust fro you and Kevin!!!! :wizard: :grouphug:
