Wk of Dec 24--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dave--what a great story! Sounds like your DDs were so excited.

Heather--I guess I'm not the only one who's been checking the weather, huh? It's getting to the upper limit of what I'd consider "comfortably warm" for marathon weekend. I guess we can always hope for a cold front. Of course, all our Southern WISHers are doing the happy weather dance right about now. :)

I got some cool running stuff for Christmas. Krista got me a New Balance SS shirt and some Nike/Asics shorts, and my brother-in-law got me a Nike Sphere Dry technical LS shirt and pants.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. We're getting close now--only 10 days till we're in the World!

Steve

UGH! I have been having such problems posting replies on the new boards. The quick reply buttons aren't working for me. Oh, and now I realize that none of the smilies work for me, either! Boohoo!

All that being said, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

Dave -- so glad the princesses loved their surprise!
Kristi -- I had to laugh about the toilet tissue!
Sunny -- you are in my prayers

Howard and I both ended up putting sport beans in stockings and I also gave him some cliff blocks and some under armour gear. He bought me a very pretty green sweater and peridot earrings along with lots of other goodies, but one thing I am extremely excited about is my ipod video which will make future long TM sessions so much more pleasant -- I can barely see the tvs above the TMs at the Y, and definitely cannot read the closed-captioning, so this is a fabulous gift for me.

We did a short LR on Sunday before heading to our friends' house. Only about 5.5 miles but it was such a gorgeous day and I couldn't even remember the last time I trained outside, so it felt really good just to get out in the sunshine and see how hard it is to do race pace IRL, rather than TM. Not bad at all. I put the new (tiny) digital camera in my waist pack along with everything I intend to carry -- phone, sport beans, marathon bar, sport bar, kleenex, chapstick, etc., etc. -- and it all fit fine and felt good. Glad I realized on that LR that my two water bottles are not exactly the same size, so I have to be careful to take the right bottle and cap so I don't end up wearing orange powerade.

Still worried because Howard didnt' run at all. He walked with me because he wanted to be with me. Very sweet, honey, but get your butt in gear! I kept encouraging him to run ahead, but he didn't. The closer we get to race weekend the more I worry about him, but he is a big boy and all I can do is encourage him. I know he is just worn out and overwhelmed with life in general, and I know he knows what it takes to pull off a 1/2 or a full, so I'll just cross my fingers that he can do them back to back. He did say on Saturday that he has to be sure to put the "stick" in the luggage to use after the 1/2. So, I am adding that to the packing list. If anyone else is taking theirs, be sure to add it to your list!

Back later to catch up with everyone.

Greetings all! :hippie: Ahh, I see they rearranged the smilies on me.

Wow! :goodvibes What a fabulous surprise to log into my Yahoo mail and see email from all of you! COOL! Sorry I missed it but I was up to my eyeballs with family this weekend. I never even got to log on. You can be sure I'll be adding all you guys to my Yahoo address book, just in case! Say, the new background makes my signature look funky. Ewwww.

:wizard: to everyone who is sick. Three of four of the stepkids are sick, and when I left the house this morning they were lying around on the couch and reclining chairs in blankets, coughing and feeling miserable. I felt so bad for them, it looked like a plague in my house. What do you think the changes are of my dodging this bullet? I'm kinda hoping to get sick like today and get it over with.

I did manage to get in all my scheduled training. However, Saturday's L/R was on the TM, which I hate. It was raining far too hard and too cold and windy for me to venture outside. But a L/R on the TM is VERY unsatisfying. I did 40 min on the TM yesterday morning, only in the interest of time. I would have rather done it outside since it got really nice out but I had to do it before sunrise. There are only just so many hours in the day! This morning I did 20 min on the TM and ten on the bike. Didn't feel like much.

We missed our Mickey call. I was outside feeding the girls and apparently everyone was too engrossed in Talledaga Nights to answer the phone. He did leave a number to all back so I'll do that tonight.

I just want you all to know - because I've already told everyone I know IRL - that I have THE greatest husband ON THE PLANET! (No offense to you husbands here, I'm sure you are all might fine spouses also.) You know how we went thru all the last minute gyrations to get ownership of Mist last week? (I know you guys know since I went on and on about it.) Well, I didn't have the kind of cash on hand that we needed to purchase her on such short notice. So Charlie said he'd write a check and I told him I'd pay him back. Then for the last week he kept teasing me about her being "his horse". So I kept saying fine, I'll give you half the hay bill, the vet bill, the farrier bill...you get the picture. However, under the tree was a little envelope - it was the transfer papers - to me...and I don't have to pay him back! She was a Christmas gift to me! Holy cow! I was shocked! In shock and awe, as Dave said. Wow, WHAT a gift! :yay: WHAT a guy! :cloud9:

He also got me a pair of Kayanos, a pair of black Pearl Izumi running tights and man do I LOVE them! :thumbsup2: And a Pearl Izumi neon yellow hat. Also, Disney Crocs! YAY! OK not technically a running gift but most excellent none the less. He also got me lots of other non-running gifts. I'm such a lucky girl.

Kristi - Interesting to know they made white zin in a box in the 1800s...:lmao:

Oh Vic - You boys are so handsome! :goodvibes:

Dave - "we got credit cards?" That is SO adorable! :cloud9: Oh what fun you and DW must have had watching them!

Well, at a site that usually houses 3,500 people...there are less than 12 cars in the parking lot. You guys are my life line today. I'll be a posting fool! (As usual, eh??)

Congratulations, Judy! Man, oh man, I really want to give Charlie a hug for making you so happy! Do you think he'll think I am totally bizarre if I do that when I see him next, next Friday? :cloud9:

BTW everyone, I bought Howard a pair of crocs for Christmas and he is surprised at how much he likes them. I have added "crocs" to the list of things that are going in my race bag that gets checked. It seems to me my feet will be very happy to get out of the running shoes and socks and get some air, so I am planning to bring them along in my checked bag and change into them for the walk back to the resort. :thumbsup2

Judy - Congratulations. That was a cool thing your DH did. :thumbsup2

Cam - Hope you're feeling better. I have another three days of antibiotics to take, but the cough is gone and my chest in no longer congested. So, maybe there's hope. :)

Kristi - Boxed wine in the 1800s. Hmmmmmmm. The toilet tissue was a nice touch though. :lmao:

Heather - Let's hope it stays warm. :)

Hoping everyone's holidays were very magical!!

Judy - That was so very, very sweet of Charlie:love:

Cam - Glad Howard liked his Crocs.

Dave - How wonderful your DD's loved their surprise.

Tiff - Best of luck getting the packing done this week. Travel Safe.

Heather - Congrats on the VIP passes and the massaging slippers that sound just heavenly.

Glad to see Santa was good to all and blessed us with lots of running goodies.

I worked hard on marathon shirts this past weekend and even broke out my sewing machine that hasn't seen the light of day in ages. I am getting so very excited.

Happy training to all this week. Tapering is going well. I am seeing an acupuncturist as a preventive measure for a comfortable 26.2.

Hey - I can't send any PMs! Did something change??? :confused3

Cam - Are you at work today? :rolleyes1:

Yes, Judy, I am at work. Thank God it is very quiet since 2 of my partners are away this week. :thumbsup2

OK, just wondering....

I am too but I have to say, I sure am getting a lot done!

I am too but I have to say, I sure am getting a lot done!

I actually am, too, since the phones aren't ringing off the hook. I am also used to getting well over 100 emails a day and even that has been minimal volume. I am loving it!

Yes, but...did you ever get the feeling we are the only two HERE????

I'm here! Not there but here. Phil is out on a trail run w/ the guys and I'm here totally reorganizing boy's toys!! Wow! I'm going to have to make a run to the store for some storage stuff.

My smilies don't work either!!

Judy - That is a beyond awesome Xmas gift ((hugs)).

I'm being a slug today. I braved the stores to grab some quick laundry/cleaning supplies which I needed. Thankfully was not standing in the return line which was massive. I will have to do that later but in stores out of the area so I won't do that until later in the week or weekend.

PD to the sickies and those on the hurting list. WISHing you all the best!

I'm here! Just working from home today. With the upgrade of the boards this weekend, I did not get a chance to tell everyone about my adventure last week. Here goes:

I have been having chest pain since the beginning of December. It started out as an ache in the right side of my chest that happened every few days. Then, it became more of a tightness in the center of my chest that made it more difficult to breathe. I ignored it, hoping that it would go away. I did not even tell DH about it. It started to happen every day throughout the day and sometimes would appear as a pain on the left side of my chest. It was worse at night. On Thursday, I finally decided to call the doctor about it, especially with the marathon coming up. The doctor told me to go to the emergency room, so that is where I spent several hours on Thursday afternoon. The doctors did an EKG, took a chest xray, and ran blood tests. Everything looks great. They do not know what is causing the chest pain, but they do not think I have any problems with my heart. DH was pretty mad at me because I called him from the hospital to tell him what was going on. I didn't tell him before because I didn't want to worry him, and I did not want him to have to come to the hospital with me. I will not make that mistake again. Anyway, I am going to see the cardiologist on Friday to have a stress test. I expect that to be normal. I think the chest pain is caused by stress. Since we got back from Disney at the end of November, I have not been exercising, and I think that has resulted in a huge increase in my stress level. I have taken it easy since Thursday, and I have only had chest pains once since then. I am still planning on doing the marathon unless the stress test shows something irregular.

OMG Heather - You be careful! Sending a ton of PD your way in hopes that all results return normal!

Heather -- Please be very, very careful. I am glad all the tests have been negative, but I'll feel much better once you've had the stress test. Please take care of yourself, sweetie.

Here I thought that during the holiday break things would calm down and let me get caught up a little. No, can't do that... Lynnda has gotten over her cold but decided to get an ear infection yesterday. Another trip to the doctor this afternoon is in store. I figure that either she is still attempting to get me sick or she is attracting all the sickness in the house to keep everyone else well.

As for running, I did 8 miles Friday, 5 miles Saturday (cut down from a planned 10 due to rain and lightening. The rain I was going to deal with but I figured I shouldn't dare the lightening. ), and then I did 4.75 this morning. I think there are only a couple of more runs scheduled for me and then a few walks the week of the races.

Running wise for Christmas, Lynnda got an iPod (lime green of course) and I got some long sleeved running shirts and a gift card to the local bike shop to be used for a nice bike for me.

Bill

I went on a LR today (I hope Cam is happy ) and here are my results:

Mile 1: 9:19
Mile 2: 19:52 (pain on top of feet near both ankles - walked it off)
Mile 3: 12:21 (stretched out - pain subsided a bit)
Mile 4: 18:13 (pain back- stretched out - walked)
Mile 5: 8:20 (better)
Mile 6: 9:38
Mile 7: 9:54
Mile 8: 8:30
Mile 9: 11:19
Mile 10: 12:13
Mile 11: 11:16
Mile 12: 10:14
Mile 13: 12:05

Total: 13.1 miles in 2:31:49 for a pace of 11:35 overall.

Happy Taper Madness!

Howard

Well, I finally got in my 8 mile run. Since we had a bad snowstorm on Friday night/Saturday, the roads are still an icey mess. And can you believe that my town did not plow off the sidewalks. If residential areas are required to have sidewalks cleaned within 24 hours, I think that all sidewalks should be cleaned. I drove to Target this afternoon and saw people walking in the 4 lane street because the sidewalks were still piled in snow. So unsafe!

OK, I am off that tangent!!! SO I ran 8 miles at the Y on the indoor track. Yes, 96 laps again. I did OK, except my feet were hurting again. I finished in 1:39, which I think is about a 12.5ish minute mile. Anyhoo, if my feet and arches don't kill me, I will make it through. OH and I misplaced my inhaler over the holidays, so I had to do without. My chest aches, but I made it through. I did my 10 miler a month ago without my inhaler also, because I forgot it. So at least I know if worse comes to worse, I can make it through. Tho the raspy chest and ache is no fun!!!!

I have to get my kids to bed now. Have a great night all!

Hi everyone! It's almost time.....

Judy - I'm so happy for you. :goodvibes

Dave - I'm sure all the surprises have been fun for you as well. :)

Heather - is a gallbladder attack a possibility? Hope everything works out for you.

Cam - enjoy the calm days at work while you can! ;)

Sunny - I'm almost afraid to ask. Are you any better?

Jodi - How are you doing? Are you still training on the elliptical?

For all of you nursing injuries or other illnesses - :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: :wizard:

I mentioned a week or so ago that I was having trouble with what I thought was one of my adductor muscles. Turns out to be a gracillis muscle in my upper leg. It's causing me to limp while running. With my icing, taking ibuprofen and stretching, it seems to be better but I still can't run. I'm working out on the elliptical for the time being. I did my LR on it Saturday (2 hours) and my feet were so numb afterwards. :scared: I'm glad I don't have to do that again.

Any good thoughts you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
