Wk Of Dec 23 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I know I did. I got my Garmin Christmas morning and have already used it twice! Wow, how did I survive without it!

So far I have a 6 miler and a 10 miler in this week. It is so hard to get the training in when you are at someone else's house and there are 17 people hanging around. No one else even wants to go outside much less exercise!

I have Wii elbow in both arms! Ouch. We have three Wii's hooked up on tvs in the house and have been having tournaments. Its been a blast but I can barely move my right arm! So much for being fit.

Enjoy the post Christmas quiet and your tapers. I will join you in taper maddness after Saturday and I can't wait!

Cecilia

I did 4 miles outside yesterday that were fabulous! 49:23 for a 12:21 pace. So nice to be off the TM for a SR! I still can't believe how much easier it is outside than on the TM.

I used my running warehouse gift certificate and WISH team discount to order some Reebok's yesterday. I haven't had a chance to try them yet, should arrive tomorrow!

The whole family went to Barnes and Noble with gift cards. I got a new calendar (50% off!) and 3 running books...First Marathons, Running Until You're 100 and Jeff Galloway's Marathon You Can Do It. I'm feeling a lot like Martha...don't know how I'm going to get through this, so hoping to find some inspiration. Hang in there Martha...we'll all get through this together. Just remember, we have a lot more support on the race course than when you're out there on a LR. There's always going to be a WISHer nearby. I'll be behind you if you need to drop back.

The first marathons book is pretty good so far...it reminds me of many of you WISHers who did the full for the first time last year. I think about your stories as well...Cam and Rhonda walking 19 miles after Cam's fall and catching up to the sweepers, Krista toughing it out on a really cranky IT band, Pat and Lily who at mile 24, still look like they're just out for an easy stroll or jog, Heather and Kevin still able to laugh at mile 24, seeing SWDave waving in the distance coming over the bridge from Swan/Dolphin and all the rest who we got to see from YC at the last race. It was an honor and privilege to be a part of your First or Next Marathon story. Maybe we could get a WISH team book out of this someday!

Shhhhh! I can't hear the TM!

OMG it's soooo quiet! :goodvibes It's wonderful! :yay: And he adjusted the belt too so it's smoooooth. Whoooo hoooo! :woohoo: I love it! My three miles this morning were a joy! :thumbsup2

LocoPanda - OK, OK, I'll give you that. Some people are nuts. Buts lets leave my in-laws out of it. And thank you for the Hottest Video Award. I'd like to thank all the little people.....

Angie - Thank you. It's a beautiful thing we do!

Stephanie - I think you might be getting the "WISH Best Dressed Runner" Award this year! Whoo hoo on the new running goodies!

Valentine Kathy - Well, I'm very glad you're here. :yay: And glad I don't smell. Sort of. :upsidedow

Mel - Ohhhh, what a sweet sweet post. I think we all need that right now so thank you very much!

OK, off to pretend like I can about being here today. It's me and one other person and of course my idiot manager has to show up. His wife probably kicked him out of the house! Grrrr.

OMG...that's amazing! :thumbsup2 23 miles and no pain. What's your secret? Probably good base and long miles. I think that's why my legs are hurting so much..I didn't put in enough miles. May I ask what your weekly mileage looked like? WTG on an awesome run :).
Thanks! I basically used the "Marathoning for Mortals" marathon running plan, but I increased the mileages for the long runs because I wanted to go over 20 for my last LR. For me the key to being injury free and keeping my legs fresh has been running a little bit less during the week and replacing it with XT. Last year I did straight running in training for the half and I think it was too much for these old bones. I don't have my running plan with me (I'm out of town) but I'd basically build up two weeks then drop back a week. I had 2 18 mile runs and also did 2 half marathons during my training. All in all I'm very happy with my preparation! Oh yeah -- another key for me is to start off my run nice and slow and get faster as I go along. I do this even for my longest runs. Really for me the first 3 miles are a warm up.

DH and I escaped the relatives and got out for a quick 4.5 this morning. I hate running where I don't know my way around! Still, it felt pretty good and we had negative splits. We're off to National Treasure 2 this afternoon.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I got no running gear but DH got an iPod Shuffle which he used today. Woo hoo!

Happy training, all!
Renee

ps - Angie - I'm so happy you're back running again!!!

I am back at work today. UGH. How I wish I was home. Oh well. I was able to get on the treadmill this AM. Only managed to do 1.5 miles but since I haven't done ANYTHING in the last 2 weeks and barely have done any running/walking since TOT :scared1: - at least I am not doing the 2008 marathon!!! It was only my 2nd time running/walking with my new shoes and I have only used them on the TM so far. They seem to feel fine (just like the old ones so I guess that is good since I stuck with the same shoe they just are the newer model.) I want to do a local 5k on Jan 6 so I have to at least get back in some kind of running pattern. I also want to do a 5k at the Daytona racetrack. I think that would so COOL. So we will have to see what January holds for me.

Good luck to all those in taper mode. The next 2.5 weeks will go by so quick I am sure. And for all those having doubts I am sure you will do fine. Just listen to your body and don't push yourself over the edge but just push far enough and you will get it done. I had my doubts about being able to finish the TOT 13k and I was pleasently surprised by how well I did. I think you will get energy from the crowd and the atmosphere and the actually excitement of actually being there and you will do fine!!

As far as my Christmas it was good. I  LOVE  my new TV (I wish I was home right now so I could watch it :happytv: but I guess I have to work to pay for the Directv service every month!! LOL) Yesterday I hooked up another reciever in my back room by my treadmill (had to crawl around in the attic but I got it hooked up!! :yay: ) so now I at least have something besides movies that I can watch while on the treadmill. My sister got me a really pretty running top so I have to go for a run outside to check it out (when I run on the TM I only wear my jog bra and shorts - waiting for comments on that one!! :rolleyes1 )

Well lets hope that life gets back to normal (if you can call it that :lmao: ) now that Christmas is over. At least I only have to work today and tomorrow and then I am off until next Thursday. If only I can get through the boredom of today and tomorrow I will be ok!!

LocoPanda - OK, OK, I'll give you that. Some people are nuts. Buts lets leave my in-laws out of it. And thank you for the Hottest Video Award. I'd like to thank all the little people.....

Hey Queen/Star of Hot Videos--Just because some of us are Irish, you don't have to pick on us. Not every women needs a foam roller to experience ecstasy.

Hi everyone! I hope everyone had a great Christmas/Holiday! We arived home from HHI last night around 10 PM after a 14 hour drive. Lovely, isn't it?

We had a great trip down (11 hours, 45 minutes), so-so weather and a lot of great family time!

I received a new Garmin Forerunner 205 for Christmas! :thumbsup2  I will be taking it on its first journey/training run sometime this weekend on the mean streets of Wilmington!

While in HHI, I was able to get out on a LR which turned out to be a long LR/W. I covered a total of 14.94 miles, about 8 of which were actually running (completely). Of those miles, 6 or 7 were on the beach in 71 degree temps! :woohoo: Others were walking and running or flat out walking. I also completed another run/walk of 3.45 miles.

I am experiencing moderate to extreme fatigue/pain :headache: in the top front foot/ankle and lower leg (front) area soon after I begin to run. The pain is not in the "usual" shin splint area that I am used to. This happens on the TM or on the road. After stopping and stretching out, it gets better, but the residual pain/soreness is still there. I know I should be stretching out before a run, I am no spring chicken. Unfortunately, I am not a disciplined runner and I usually skip this or simply gloss over the stretching routine. I will learn someday.

The 14.94 mile LR/W at least beats my LR of last year (for the Goofy) which was 13.8 miles. I am shaking in my boots :scared: about this years Goofy, but know with the support of my running partners, I'll be fine.

Enjoy the tapers you all have earned. I will be earning my opportunity to complete the Goofy by training as much as I can between now and when the Fireworks go off at the start.

:grouphug:

Howard

Thanks everyone for the wonderful words of support after that @#$%&(&%#@ run on Sunday. I so want to forget it but it's always there. Lurking in the back of my mind with all my other fears. Stupid, stupid run.

Howard: hope HH was as fabulous and Cam said it was. Sorry the weather didn't cooperate better. But you still had 71 degrees AND a run on the beach. I'm in MA with snow on the ground, more snow on the way for this afternoon and, oh yeah, more snow! Stupid, stupid weather.

TnTsParty: so if you are at work, how can you be in front of your new TV? I'd like to know the secret 'cause I'm at work and my TV is nowhere in sight! :lmao:

Judy: happy to (not) hear the TM motor! What is this about a "hottest video award?" What did I miss????

Chimera: if you find inspiration in one of those books, ya wanna pass it along? I sure could use some right about now.

angietuck2, nucpharm29, TEK224: thank you all for your words of support. I also must thank Judy for threatening to kick my booty if I don't snap out of it!!! Y'all are the best! With all these positive thoughts, how can I fail? Oh yeah, I still have to run this. :scared:

WWDave, Big Vic, nepatsfan Bill: y'all have been awfully quiet. Are you on holiday? Taper madness gonna pick up after the new year? I'm all a twitter with anticipation..... ;)

Gotta look busy. I'll check in later.

I'm keeping a low profile, as I've been very, very cranky lately. Not sure why, but Marilyn is going to give me an old fashioned butt whoopin if I don't straighten up. I ain't skeerd. :rolleyes1

:santa: Merry Christmas, WISHers!

I'm still reading and keeping up with ya'll even though I'm not posting. I'm not really training for anything right now, but I am trying to keep up with my running every week so I can at least be fit and ready to train when the opportunity comes.

My DH is moving to Singapore January 11th. I am hoping, hoping, hoping time goes really slowly between now and then.:guilty: We'll be apart for 5-6 weeks before he's able to come back to the states for work. After that time, he'll be back more often (including our last blowout trip to Disney with the boys in May/June :cool1: ). The boys and I are moving over to Singpore in the summer. (For those who know the island, we'll be renting a home in the Woodlands.)

Leann--I can't believe you ran up and down Orchard Road! I hope it wasn't as crowded with people as when I saw it! It would have been "weaving" as opposed to "running"! Have a safe trip back!

Everyone else--I am so proud of your training and the miles I see. Wow! You're all going to do super at the marathon! I'll be there in spirit doing this :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'll try to check in more in 2008 as I'll be on my own for a while. I'll need running support from you!

TnTsParty: so if you are at work, how can you be in front of your new TV? I'd like to know the secret 'cause I'm at work and my TV is nowhere in sight! :lmao:

Actually I said I wish I was at home and not at work so I could be in front of the TV but alas I am at work and no tv in sight here either. The guy who sits in the cubicle next to me has his portable DVD player here today - but get this - he is only listening to it not watching it?? Is that not wierd????

Well, I ran today for the first time since my forced hiatus. I have skied and biked but this is my first real, well, semi run. It was awful. I could only average out a 17 mpm with walking time. How am I ever going to stay ahead of the sweeps now. I guess my DH was right, I am in over my head. I am trying to think positive but apparently my body is not cooperating with me.

Glad to see everyone getting in their miles/workouts and looking forward to taper madness picking up. I will not have an official taper aside from the sideline sitting I have been doing lately so I will live vicariously through others!! :upsidedow

Hi everyone! I feel so badly that I have not been keeping up with all of your training. My job has become very demanding so I don't get alot of fun time on the computer anymore. I am really looking forward to the race in just a few short weeks. I have one more long run scheduled for Saturday - 10 miles and then it is taper time for me as well. I have had some problems with sore feet - went back to my old reliable ASICs and that took care of that. I also have lower back pain which I am told is a result of tight hamstrings - hindu squats and hindu pushups help that. Other than that training is going along fine. I am doing more cross training this time around which I hope will help. Did anyone else sign up for the Runner's Retreat package? I did it mostly for the bathrooms - and the heated/cooled tent! I'll try to check in more frequently as we get closer to the race. Go Team!

No need to be scared, Martha--we could be forcing you on Rockin' Rollercoaster again, but instead it's just gonna be a nice LR with friends!:rotfl: Love ya! You'll be great!:thumbsup2

Well, I hit the gym this morning in the hopes of getting 4 miles on the TM before heading out to spend my Christmas gift cards! You can definitely tell that the end of the year/New Year/New Year's resolutions are fast approaching. The gym is FULL of people--how dare they disrupt my normally quiet gym on a Thursday morning. When I got there only 1 treadmill was open, and b/c I'm an employee, I was nice and let a paying member have it. So, I opted for the elliptical monster for 30 minutes. So, here I am quietly minding my own business when two guys jump on the ellipticals on either side of me. Both staring at me and the display on my machine--then I start seeing both of them speeding up like we were racing--um, dudes, these things are STATIONARY!!:rotfl2: I just wanted to say, "Yeah, I'm faster than you! Deal with it!";)

Well the dreams, or shall I say nightmares, have begun.

In the past week I've had 3 dreams about missing the start of the marathon. In every case I doing something that I cannot finish, and until I finish I cannot leave for the starting corrals. You'd think I'd be too old for this kind of thing, but in the words of John Belushi, "noooooooooooooooooooo."

Stephanie

Good for you for not letting those dopes catch you, even while stationary. When that happens to me I hate it, but like you I make sure I stay in front of the fools who are trying to catch me. The funny thing is this sort of thing never happens with someone who really can run. They're fast, they're training, and they don't notice what's going on around them. It's always out of shape males who think "I'll fall in with this guy and show him my stuff," as if I'll let him show off to me.

Red Dragon

Sure, you listen to your running buddies, but not to me. No wonder you insisted they take "obey" out of those vows.

Mel

If you see me at mile 24 and I'm smiling, then it isn't me. By that point I always look terrible. I especially liked the race volunteer last year who came up to me and asked "are you okay sir?" I will look for you anyway, and thanks for giving me something to visualize through the pain and misery.

Vic

Don't be too cranky, and don't throw the gauntlet down in front of your spouse. Let's talk when we meet in Orlando about the Friday afternoon or whatever afternoon club. You bring the stories and I'll provide the refreshments. All you can eat and drink!

Steve

Let's talk about race pace and strategy when we meet in Orlando. I would dearly love to run 4:29:59. I'm 100% confident I can carry that pace for something between 14 and 19 miles, depending on the weather. I'm also confident I cannot possibly carry that pace for the entire distance (just ONCE I'd like to run the stretch between the Animal Kingdom and the finish line, just once). Perhaps we can pair up for as long as I can hold it, then you can run off to your glorious result.

Today has been cold rain and drizzle all day, but hey, you don't have to shovel rain. I was on a treadmill for 4+ miles, and I varied the incline and pace throughout. It all felt good, as they say in bad movies, "too good." I suspect either nature or my body have at least one unpleasant surprise between now and race day.

Off-Topic Brag About My Daughter:

Working in financial markets means you're there when the markets are open, period. So yesterday, the day after Christmas, 2 members of the group call in "sick." After the markets close she gets a call from fund accounting, asking who is pricing money markets today? She looks and sees the person who does it is gone. The person who is the backup is also gone. She tells fund accounting "I guess it is me."

Man she better get a nice performance evaluation and bonus at the end of her 1st 6 months at the firm. She earned it all yesterday.

Best to all

Craig

I guess it's my turn for the stonker/psycho run...

Went out for a nice, simple 3 mile run with DH this afternoon. Beautiful day, temp in the low 50's. First 2 miles around 11:30 avg, feeling good. Around 2.5 I just crash. Stop for a walk break, and can't run. Every step hurts, my legs ache, I don't know why I'm trying to run; I'm supposed to do a 5K New Year's Eve and I can't fathom how I'll run 3.1 in 4 days, let alone 13.1 in 16 days. DH is way ahead of me, so I'm all alone on the greenway, and the tears start. I'm just plodding along, sobbing and wondering what the h*** I'm doing out here. Finally I catch up to DH walking back and we run the last .3 to the car and he reminds me that I'm prepared, I've done the mileage and I can do this half marathon thing! Thank goodness he was with me - otherwise I might still be sitting in the path.

I still managed to do 3.2 in 38:14 for an 11:58 average, so I'm not too unhappy with the final numbers.

Good luck to everyone training this week!

Jackie

Hi WISH Team! Boy have I missed everyone! LTO really badly right now. I've not been able to get those last LRs in and barely making my weekly training. So, I will do what I can on race day, and try to not be too disappointed if I DNF since I will have earned that. I'll be happy to be participating though.

Well it's 12 hours until we get on the plane, the suitcase is packed, the passports are in my handbag so there's only one thing left to do and that's yell GO WISH TEAM GO and I'll see you all at POP in a fortnight!!! Oh blimey, I'm crying again.........

Leann--I can't believe you ran up and down Orchard Road! I hope it wasn't as crowded with people as when I saw it! It would have been "weaving" as opposed to "running"! Have a safe trip back!

Vicki - At 7 am Orchard Rd is actually pretty empty. I hope the move goes well for you. Will you be at the Minnie for one last Disney race before you leave?

Well, sign me up for the stonker run club today. I got out for 3.1 extremely painful miles today. It could have been due to some suspicious hydration after a bunch of wine tasting yesterday...who knows... Regardless it was awful and I walked most of it, but such a shame because it was an absolutely beautiful route here in Perth. I'll probably aim for another run on Sunday or so, so here is hoping that one goes better...!!

Leana - I just have to say I am so jealous of all your travels! I guess I should get a passport so that I could travel somewhere besides WDW, huh? :rotfl: My dad just took a new job where he will be traveling to China and India every month....better get hoping on that passport so I can tag along!

Martha - working at a tv station, you get to watch tv all day long. It's not all it's cracked up to be though!
