Wk Of Dec 23 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Merry Christmas

Peace, , Joy, and well-WISHes to you all!

FYI - Saw National Treasure last night. It was great! My 6 year old told me after it ended it was AMAZING. :lmao: Highly recommend, plus they showed a Goofy short before the movie. popcorn::

Cheers Wishers! :goodvibes

Hey Shan, did you notice in the Goofy short the "Hidden Mickey's? There were several, but I noticed on the TV box, it said Mickey Mouse (somehow) and something else. And I think Goofy had a Mickey watch. I thought it was cute.

I just wanted to add that I really enjoy reading the posts. I don't always reply (for fear of having nothing interesting to say) but always read & keep up. Thanks everybody for the ideas and training reports and injury updates. I've learned alot!

I know I've already said Merry Christmas, but I had to pop in cause I'm so excited. I just ran my fastest run ever - average pace was 9:40! :woohoo:

And Happy Birthday Jen! :wizard:

OK, now I'm really getting off the computer... :lmao:

Don't have much time for posting (and I haven't been here in a while - oh and haven't run much in a while either. :sad2:) Hopefully after tomorrow things will get back on track.

I just had to post and say WOW Shan that is an AWESOME pace - I can imagine how excited you were.

And I want to say Happy birthday to Jen!!! YEAH

Too all WISHer's MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! have a happy and safe one. :santa:

I haven't been able to post much this last week. major LTO- Again!

Just wanted to pop in and say Merry Christmas Everyone!

I am so impressed by everyone's long miles! I :worship: to you all!
I don't think I'll suffer any taper madness this year, as I don't think I'll have a taper. Training has suffered and I have not put in a ton of miles. I'm trying to continue with my several short runs during the week and a long run on the weekends. I'm trying to map out the next 3 weeks so that my long runs will coincide with the 1/2 & full to make it seem like a normal part of training (though nothing has been normal this year).
I'll take it easy Wed.-Fri. before the races, just strolling through the parks and hydrating as much as possible.

I am off from work most of this week, so I hope to get some major training time in this week and next. I'll just have to tough out those last miles. I'm getting those medals this year, if I have to crawl.

Have a safe, happy and fun holiday!
Terri

Kathy

Hey everyone-

Merry Christmas! It's a boring, rainy kind of day here. We've stuffed ourselves full of bad food, DD is watching High School Musical 2 on some sort of loop (thank you, Santa!), and DS is napping. I've run the last 3 days in a row so I feel pretty good. I did 5 miles yesterday- they were sooo much easier than 4 the day before. What was the difference you ask? The humidity. (25% vs. about 80%) What am I now most scared of for Disney? Yep, humidity...

I'm still fighting the allergy/sinus crud. My mom actually got me a nasaline syringe for a present. For those of you unfamiliar with this treat, it's a ginormous syringe you fill with salty water and shoot up your nostrils. Seriously.

If pushing salty water up a syringe into your nose isn't a committment to getting healthy before Goofy, I don't know what is! :lmao:

Gonna go back to being lazy now!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!:santa:

Morning all - well it's boxing day here already so all the chaos is over. Although it is 9am, and I've already been to the sales (the stores opened at 7am, I was up and I live right in town soooo.....). I am not going out there again - it's madness. I have also already eaten one turkey sandwich, four sausage rolls and a chocolate - we had everyone round here yesterday (6 lonely expats most of them on their first year away - there were a few weepy mums on the phone) and so I have a fridge full of leftovers - at this rate I will be rolling the marathon not running it.

I got out for a 3 mile run yesterday morning - it was bizarre as no-one was around - except about 50 ibis birds (funny looking smelly white things with big long beaks), they must sleep in the park and disappear as people arrive, but as no-one was around yesterday they'd obviously had a lie in!!!

Today is recovery day (although I didn't drink yesterday due to a rather lively Xmas eve) tomorrow is 1 hr, Friday is 2 - then we get on the plane to Los Angeles.

Leana: hope you're enjoying Singapore. It's nice to run around Boat/Clarke Quay's in the morning when no-one is around (don't try it after 5pm!!!). Oh, and should you require a taste from home (unlikely already I know)- the California Pizza kitchen is at the top end of Orchard road!!!! Sadly the taco bell at the bottom end is no more!! Helen

Helen - I did see CPK! I would have loved to run around Clarke Quay, but I mostly just went up and down Orchard which was still very nice. It is so humid here though. We are leaving for Perth this morning where I'm sure I'll get some great running in as well. It is really hot there, so maybe this is a way to acclimatize for WDW???

Just wanted to pop in and express my hope that everyone (who celebrates) has/had a Very Merry Christmas.

Thank you all for the support you have given me so far and I am recommitting myself to giving me the gift of health(iness).

Have to come out of lurker mode to share some amazing news. My wife gave me an incredible present yesterday morning. She said it is a Christmas present, anniversary present, and birthday present all rolled into one. She gave me entry into the Goofy!!!

Somehow she got me a Goofy entry, 3 nights lodging at POR, and roundtrip airfare. So I get to run my 3rd Goofy challenge in a little under 3 weeks.

I should have known that something was up when she kept insisting that I get out there and run after my Tucson Marathon a few weeks ago. As it turns out, my running coach knew. I thought he was just being mean when he told me to go 90 minutes and 3 hours on back-to-back days this past weekend.

Have I mentioned that I have the greatest wife in the whole world??

Cool beans!

Hi everyone! Miss me? I've been starting a new job (been at it 3 weeks now) and coming back from an injury (all better now, thank you) and trying to keep up the training for the marathon. It's been hard and I'm beat.

On Sunday, I was to run for 4 hours. That would be the last LR before the marathon. Well, it didn't go as planned. To say it was a stonker is an understatement. It was the stonkiest of stonkers. I ran 3 hours, 45 minutes and the last 45 were walking. First hour was fine. Second hour was OK. During the third hour, my iPod froze. Just froze. I had to let it run the battery completely down to get it to turn off. It's fine now but that didn't help. By the end of the third hour I was walking 5 minutes, running 10 minutes. Then the fourth hour I walked.

How am I ever going to run this marathon? 3 weeks before the race, and I can't even go 4 hours. How pathetic is that? DH thinks I didn't have enough fuel at each of the breaks. I don't know. I'm beginning to not care. I had such hopes of coming in under 5 hours. Ain't gonna happen now, is it? If I come in at 5 1/2 hours, I'll be the happiest person alive. Maybe I should just go for crossing the finish line, upright, no assistance.

To all my WISH team mates--a very Merry Christmas (one day late) and a safe a happy new year! I'll see you in 2 1/2 weeks!

Greetings fellow taperererers.....:upsidedow

We had a very nice day yesterday. I saved Charlie's "big" present for last, which was fun because he thought we were all finished and I pulled out just one more thing....Hee hee....So I gave him the Minnie registration and cruise on the Wonder. It was so much fun! He was stunned speechless. I loved it!

Did ten on the TM Saturday and he did 20. I'm getting a little TM weary. It's supposed to rain pretty hard Saturday morning. Grrrr. Figures.

We got a new motor put in our TM this morning and the technician said we have 3,300 miles on it! Holy cow! We've only had it a three years. Geez.

Judith Anne stepping up to soapbox now...

I have to respectfully disagree with those of you who think we are nuts. You know who I think is nuts? Those people sitting on the couch all day, getting wider backsides by the minute, exercising their finger by pushing the remote, eating at fast food joints, taking handfuls of pills every day, not taking care of themselves. I have a friend from high school is almost 300 pounds, she's had two heart attacks already, she has high blood pressure and diabetes. She's constantly talking about how much she needs to "do something" to get her weight under control. She keeps joining gyms and never goes. She eats donuts by the box and drinks soda by the gallon! Now, THATS nuts! We aren't crazy. We're wise, grateful. well educated. OK maybe we are unusual, but wouldn't you rather be looked at strangely because you're wearing compression shorts running down the street at 5:00am, rather then lighting up yet another cigarette and making yourself a great candidate for an iron lung? We aren't nuts. We're fun, funny and goofy. We're taking care of ourselves, getting stronger and healthier every day. And having a heck of a good time doing it!

Judith Anne stepping off soapbox now... :tiptoe:

OptimatorMike - OMG! :rotfl: Ha ha ha ha! You wearing those compression shorts in the race? Hmmmm...... and you only think you know something about my XT. If you only really knew.... :rolleyes1

Valentine Kathy - Where have you been, woman!?? :yay: I had such fun with you in October then you disappeared on us. I thought maybe it was something I said. Like, did I smell or something?? :upsidedow

Paul - You DO have the greatest wife in the world and you should print this all out and show her. That's a pretty fabulous gift! :thumbsup2

Martha - You already know what I think.

Hey everyone... I think I sprained my big toe. It hurts and I have no clue why. So DH says to me... Tape it. I was like, how do you tape just your big toe? He said, I don't know but I always thought you just taped things when they hurt! :rotfl2:

Have a great all. I did 50 minutes on the TM this morning and now I am at work (1/2 days because the kids are out of school this week!).

:santa: MERRY CHRISTMAS WISH TEAM!!![/B]:santa:

OK about to go out for a RUN :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: (long time coming) but I want to say a few things real quick before I go, then I will finish catching up later:

Martha    Been on your side, now let me send out the encouragement, there are lots of reasons to think we are crazy and whats the point and then you can think about all the people out there who think what we do is amazing like my parents. When I was training I would go on about my time and my mom would go on about how much respect she has for those that even try. Actually all my friends and family say the same thing. I do however understand your frustration -- BELIEVE ME so once again

on that note:
Judy I agree -- YOU GO GIRL! ! While I have been recovering from my back surgery I had major headaches and stomach problems come back that I had forgot that I used to battle on a daily basis (something that runs in my family - mostly body reacting to stress) I looked at Bobby and said, do you realize the whole time we were training I did not have ANY of that. It is amazing what we do for ourselves through this training and I am proud of the good example we are setting for our kids, in fact DH and DS just got back from 3 mile to get ready for family 5K at marathon and I am proud to report a 31 minute time DS - 11 is doing awesome!!

Ok DH waiting so we can run, will be back I promise

Hey all! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I love finding new running goodies under the tree. Got me a new running skirt (for us girls, the Holiday limited edition GymGirl), skirtsports socks, a underarmour sweatshirt, and some new nike running gloves and hat. Gotta love family who "gets it".

Had a great run at the gym today. Only 3.2 miles, but felt good and strong. Must be the new skirt!

Now to the matter at hand---WE LEAVE FOR WDW IN 2 WEEKS!!!!!!!:scared1: Time to start my packing lists! Anyone interested in getting together on the Friday morning before the marathon (of course those not participating in the 5K) for a short slow jog around the lake at BW to keep the legs loose and aclimate to the FL weather?

Martha--You will do this! You will finish! You will do great!!!!!:cheer2: Your mind will play lots of tricks on you these next two weeks--but your training is there and your support system is in place!

Angie--so great to hear about you going for a run! Can't wait to see you in a couple weeks!

Martha - You'll do fine. Don'tcouraged. We're all here to support you.
I know how you feel though. Work, family, injuries, etc, all play a major pain , um, I mean part of our training. They are just other obstacles to overcome. And when you do overcome them, you'll feel that much prouder (especially with those medals around your neck :) ) hang in there!

Paul - A big :thumbsup2 (can't find a high-5 smiley) for your wife. What an awewsome gift!

I found some (much needed) Body Glide under my tree! ;) Also got some Injinji socks and some Clif Bars. I, too, like it when family "gets it"!

Terri
