Wk Of Dec 23 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Steve: :rotfl: Great post...the international space center LOL!

WISH TEAM: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!! :santa:

I hope everyone has a really wonderful holiday. Relax, Enjoy and Have Fun. We've all earned that glass of wine (ahem..or two) or extra dessert!!!!

Morning teammates and

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

I really count myself lucky to have all you as friends and my support team! Can't wait to walk into POP in a couple weeks and catch up in person again.

Optimator/mike--not only would I never have believed that I would own running tights, but that I also have the guts to wear them out of my house:eek:

AmyBeth--yes, I know those icy puddles you speak of. On my run yesterday I was trying to avoid a huge melting ice puddle covering the path, by jogging through the grass. Unfortunatley, the grass was just as wet as the path. The icy water covered my entire shoe. BRRRRR

Okay, now to find the Advil and a cup of coffee. I swear I woke up this morning more sore than after my last marathon.

Lisa - I am working today too. Lucky us, huh? ;)

Bill - words of wisdom? Hmmm....do as I say, don't do as I do? :rotfl:
Seeing how my training has totally derailed this year...:rolleyes1

Even when I don't post much, I read everything. You guys do keep me going.
Without a Disney race and WISH - I would not be exercising at all.
Ditto what Judy said in her post!

:santa: I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! :santa:

I will be sure to get my 9 miler in this weekend on the Vegas Strip!
I am really kind of excited to be able to do that. I remember when we were in Vegas in 2001 and Chad was training for his first marathon. He would go out early each morning and run up & down the strip. He loved it. I am excited I get to do it now too. And who knew it was cold in Vegas? Not me! The high temps are in the 50s! I knew it got cold at night, but....now my dreams of lazy-ing in the lazy river for 2 days with a margarita in hand are shot down. What to do, what to do.

One week 'til NYE with my Goos! :dance3:
(that's me, Michele & Jen dancing on the rail at the show)

I wanted to drop in and tell everyone MERRY CHRISTMAS! :santa:

Congrats to those who have completed their long runs :woohoo: and good luck to those who are about to. :wizard:

I'm going out for a moderate 2 miles once DH gets home from breakfast with his Dad and then the Christmas fun will begin! I'll be MIA next couple days - we have to drive around to all the relatives, but hopefully by Wednesday the kids will be playing with their new Wii (Including DH - I got him the Guitar Hero III and he is gonna be stoked!) and I'll be packing for WDW. :thumbsup2

FYI - Saw National Treasure last night. It was great! My 6 year old told me after it ended it was AMAZING. :lmao: Highly recommend, plus they showed a Goofy short before the movie. popcorn::

Cheers Wishers! :goodvibes

Merry Christmas Everyone

I have mostly been posting on the walking thread, but wanted to wish everyone over here a Merry Christmas.

I finished my 20 miler LW on Sat in cold and damp conditions and am so glad that is behind me and can start to taper. Glad to read that others were also getting in their miles.

Working a full shift today, but have Christmas day off. Looking forward to meeting everyone in Jan.

Nancy

Vic – Congratulations on the 20 miler. Hope your feet are recovering.
Jen – Great job on the 20 miles. Wow….240 laps.:worship:
Cindy – Great job on the 21 miles.
Amy – Glad to hear your 18 miler wasn’t too painful!
Laurie – Hope the IT Band is feeling better. :wizard:
FLBill – Glad you had a good trip to WDW. Sorry you had low clouds for Wishes. At least though you got to see all the Christmas decorations. I love WDW at Christmas time. I’ll miss seeing the decorations this year since I’m sure most if not all will be down by marathon weekend.
Leana – Hope you are enjoying Singapore. Way to go on getting in 10 miles on a layover!
Nancy – Congratulations on the 20 miler.

Due to time conflicts over the weekend, John & I headed out on Friday to do our last long w/r of 20 miles. It didn’t go well at all. :scared: First is was 34 degrees, raining, & wind blowing across the lake (we do our L R/W on a 5 mile loop around a reservoir). Since it was so cold we decided to do a longer walking warm-up before starting our intervals, well that changed quickly to strictly walking the entire time (instead of our w3/r1 we have been doing for L R/W) when we saw how muddy the trail was. (didn’t want to take any chances of slipping in the mud). I was so cold the entire time never warming up at all. The wind was blowing the cold rain right down to my bones. :cold: Plus the tops of my feet were hurting from mile 2 on.:confused3 We ended up calling it quits at 10 miles (2 1/2 hours). We were soaked, cold, & hurting. Couldn’t bear the thought of freezing for another 2 1/2 hours. It ended up taking me approx 5 hours to fully warm up. Logically I know it was the right thing to do, to stop before we made ourselves sick or hurt. But mentally I am struggling with not having finished a 20 miler. At least the 18 miler 2 weeks ago went well, so I am trying to hang on to that. The top of my one foot is still pretty sore so I have been trying to rest it as much as I can & I have had a scratchy throat since Friday night so have been taking lots of airborne. I am hoping to get out there for a short w/r sometime today.

Well, put me in the short taper group. I ended up running 5 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday (instead of my planned 20 for Sunday). I still have this horrible congestion- you know, sneezing, coughing up nasty stuff. I've had it forever now- I'm guessing I've developed some sort of allergies. So I'm postponing the LR until at least Wednesday (we have the week off!) and going to start an aggressive anti-allergy approach. Did I mention it was close to 70 degrees and 85% humidity yesterday too? Again, I'm totally grateful I'm not dealing with ice and snow, but this weather is a bit much!

Oh, and a black lab tried to attack me yesterday. I was running my usual route, playing with my new Garmin, when this enormous dog came racing up barking and growling- teeth bared and everything! I screamed like a little girl, jumped a mile, and then managed to yell "back." He left, but it scared me to death! I was so involved in my Garmin that I didn't see him until he was about 5 feet away- that scared me more than anything! :scared1: Stupid dog...

Today is my birthday- got to go be demanding on the one day I can get away with it! :rolleyes1 I think someone needs to go get me a Diet Dr. Pepper! :woohoo:

Jen in GA

Happy Birthday Jen!!! :goodvibes

Do any other Goofy people feel under trained???? Is taper madness setting in already or do I have a legitimate reason to be freaking out LOL. I just don't know how I'm going to be able to do it. I skimped on my week day mileage SOOO much the last month...I did my runs but cut the mileage short so often :(. I feel like my legs aren't ready to do the back to back runs :guilty: . This week I bailed out of the Saturday 9 miles and opted instead to do the ski machine. Now I'm feeling guilty and unprepared. I also didn't get my back to back done for the 16 b/c I was sick :guilty: .

Sorry to freak out LOL! Just assessing the training that was and realizing that I"m so light on miles. Are my legs going to be prepared? I'm sore as heck today from my LR yesterday! Ugh!!

OK...freak out over. Hope everyone is having a nice Christmas Eve Day!! :santa:

To all my friends and remote training partners:

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

I was able to complete a bit over 18 yesterday, and just did a nice weight workout and bike session. I certainly feel fitter and stronger than I was before the past 2 marathons. It would be nice if this translated automatically into a more enjoyable race and better result, but we all know that isn't the case.

I've always struggled building long runs past 13, but this year is was easier mentally and physically, and I know it's becasue of my training buddies. You post great efforts, so when I'm out there I think about matching those runs. I don't know if this makes any sense, but it has worked for me.

And the best part is, next weekend I only have to do 9.99 (I refuse to hit double digits :upsidedow ). Normal people would look at us like martains if they heard us say "I'm only running 9 miles today," but it's true.

Please enjoy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day everyone.

Craig

Hello WISHErs!

Just popping in between getting-ready-for-the-big-day chores to say
Merry Christmas!
I am amazed at how great I've felt after my 23 miler -- nothing hurts at all. I finally convinced myself that I CAN finish a marathon, which is a great Christmas present to give yourself.

I wish for you all a very blessed holiday season, no matter what holiday you celebrate! Thank you all for getting me this far on this crazy journey. And remember, we do this because it's FUN!

Happy tapering!
Renee

Ga Jen - :bday:

Amy - I'm with you on the sore legs. I'm scheduled to do 3 miles today, but am finding all sorts of reasons to keep putting it off...

I've managed to get my first cold of the winter. Like Jen, am sneezing and coughing. Feel marginally ok, but am afraid I'm still on the downhill part. It's scary that my first thought when I started feeling bad was "great, I have time to feel worse and still recover by marathon weekend!"

Everyone have a very Merry Christmas!

OMG...that's amazing! :thumbsup2 23 miles and no pain. What's your secret? Probably good base and long miles. I think that's why my legs are hurting so much..I didn't put in enough miles. May I ask what your weekly mileage looked like? WTG on an awesome run :).

I know I haven't posted here for a while, but I wanted to pop in and WISH all my friends and teammates a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Good luck with the rest of your training for Disney. Seems like people are having some great LRs.

Wow, congratulations everyone on the LRs! I am amazed to see everyone's great posts, especially those that are doing this distance for the very first time. Way to go guys!

You're right Craig, most people would call us nuts. I would probably call us nuts, too. And Mike, I agree, if you had told me a few years ago that I would get thrilled about coolmax gloves or trial size sticks of body glide, I wouldn't have believed it. This IS a crazy, exciting ride, isn't it? :thumbsup2

I don't have a lot of time to catch up with everyone personally. We're heading to Krista's parents this afternoon. I just wanted to post that I made it through the 20 miler on Saturday. Finished in 3:22. I felt really good about that, since it's dead on the pace I'd like to run in 3 weeks. That's part of the reason I haven't signed up for one of our pacing groups yet. I'd love to run with all you speedies in the 4:00-4:30 group, but I know my pace is going to put me in around 4:30 (hopefully), not at 4:00 like most of you will run. So if anyone is shooting for 4:30 on the dot, we can start our own pace group. :)

Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas! Krista said to tell you guys hi.

Steve

I have made squash casserole, sweet potato casserole, 2 kinds of fudge, 3 kinds of cinnamon nuts, picked up the pies from the Amish restaurant, the turkey and ham from Grandma Publix...but I have not run today :guilty: I did think about it when I woke up at 6am just like it was a real work day but it was just too tempting to stay in bed.

Anyway, I would add that the WISH team has changed my life. I found this board about this time 3 years ago and now I'm 30lbs lighter and have 5 half marathons and assorted other races under my belt.

Thanks to all of you for the advice and support over the years. I've had some weird setbacks that have made me wonder if I should even be doing this, but having you guys to look forward to keeps me going.

Merry Christmas to all of you! May your stockings be filled with Gu packets (unopened) and you have lots of CoolMax under the tree.

We eat tomorrow at 1pm if any of y'all are hungry!

BTW, Happy Birthday Jen!!!!! :bday: party:

Hello!

I successfully completed my 18 miler yesterday in 2:49 and surprisingly feel pretty good today. I'm all set now for the taper (which on the surface seems like a nice cozy little training stroll to WDW..but geeze...this is still a 20 mile week!) and wanted to stop in and wish everyone a

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. Great job with the hardest parts of training!! Time to celebrate a little and then get down to business on marathon weekend :goodvibes:

Merry Christmas everyone!

We’re enjoying a quiet Christmas as it’s just Marilyn, the boys, and me this year.

However, I was able to thwart a Christmas disaster today. The power adapter for Marilyn’s laptop went out (She uses it to talk with the kids in Germany over the Internet). So, a trip (actually two) to Radio Shack to get a universal adapter was in order. Disaster averted, and mama’s happy.

To all of our WISH friends, we are quite a diverse group of people, and we're proud to know each and every one of you. It’s pretty cool to use the love of Disney, and of running, to bring us together and share our ups, downs, injuries, accomplishments, PRs, family, etc. With that, we want to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Three weeks from today we’ll be admiring our bling and laughing as we shuffle because of sore legs. :thumbsup2 Is that cool, or what? :)

Y’all take care.

:santa:

I know I've already said Merry Christmas, but I had to pop in cause I'm so excited. I just ran my fastest run ever - average pace was 9:40! :woohoo:

And Happy Birthday Jen! :wizard:

OK, now I'm really getting off the computer... :lmao:

Steve - Chad's shooting for around a 4:30. I will have to ask him again what his goal is. I think he may end up more of a 5:00 due to lack of training (even worse than me).... and none of you heard that from me, ok?! :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

SWDave - I've missed ya around here! I was going to send you a PM to make sure you were still with us.

You know what really sucks? When you buy a POC Black Pearl ship that costs a small fortune & it doesn't come with even one, single, solitary action figure! Thank God Chad put it together last night and found out. Guess where Kristi was all afternoon? 3 different stores buying POC action figures!
There went my time for my 5 miler! :sad2:
What we parents do for the kiddos, huh? ;)

Now I have to go wrap the aforementioned action figures before the rugrat comes home from my parents house....
