After a very long period of negotiation...we have an accepted offer on Mist! YAY! I don't have to return her! :woohoo: Isn't this the BEST Christmas present ever!!!

Dave - There's a part in one of the last chapters that brings tears to my eyes. I get so excited reading it! I must be just a big baby. I can't believe I'm doing this either. People are amazed I ran 13 miles last Saturday. Believe me - no one is more amazed than me! :teeth:
Merry Christmas Judy!!! That is fantastic news. I am soooooo happy for you. It has been such a long haul for you and Mist, and I'm glad she is going to be with you for the rest of her days now. Oh, and as far as the last chapters of MfM goes - reading it was giving me goosebumps. You aren't the only one who is a big baby. I didn't cry, but I was choking up with that last chapter.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

OK, here's my training report: I did 40 min on the treadmill (including my 5 min warm up and cool down). I had some soreness in my shins and knee, so I didn't want to push it too much. Yay for the taper. I had a really busy day at work yesterday so I didn't get a chance to keep up with my team mates, so here goes...

Mark- Welcome to the team!!! You ran 8 miles! That's awesome! I just started exercising again after a long, long layoff, and I started by walking 2 miles last January. You are way ahead of where I was. You are going to be in great shape for the 2008 marathon. Definitely keep posting and join the fun.

I just did 3 miles last night on the TM. I think I'm at the point where I'm ready to go do this thing...the taper just seems like we're postponing the ultimate goal. I'm going to try to focus more on the holidays and try to keep the race off my mind.
Mel/Chimera, I'm with you on this one. I'm feeling ready to go now, but I realize how important the taper is. So I'm minding it. I'm glad the taper comes during the holidays though. I can keep my mind on that. I can't believe Christmas Eve is Sunday!!! Yahooo!!!! (I sound like my princesses...) Good job on your 3 miles.

Vic- Hope you kick your cough/cold soon. My DW had one of those coughs that just would not go away. Hope your's goes away fast.

Colleen- Have a great trip to Canada. Travel Safely! Merry Christmas!

Lily- How'd your training go yesterday? Good night at the gym? Mmmmmm, Christmas Cards. I hear they're a good source of fiber.

Chris- Great job on your 10 miler (or 11?)!!! Way to go! Enjoy the taper. Rest up and get all that soreness out of your body for the race. This is my first time at it too, and I can't wait! Although, I still have trouble envisioning myself at the starting line. It seems kind of surreal.

Lisa- You did the full with the FLU!!! OMG!!!! I can't even imagine. Oh no, no, no... I gotta start taking the airborne.

Hi Kathy :wave2: - Good to hear from you. I hope your shoulder is healing up well. Are you going to be at WDW to cheer Lynne (and us) on for the marathon? Oh good, I just finished your post where you said you would be there and cheering us on. I'll be looking for you on the course. Travel safely, and happy holidays.

Kristi- Were you the one saying how much you love the bed? I think I'm seeing that now. Good thing you tested out the new jammies before race weekend though. Now you know they work, and can take them with you for the marathon weekend knowing you won't get any bed sores or anything from them. Great job training!!!

Hello Lynne- Good to hear from you too. Are you on break from Med School now? If so, enjoy. Get some rest! Hey, I'm in the Psychiatry department here at the UofR. However, I'm a researcher not a clinician. I must admit I don't get too much out of the clinical Grand Rounds presentations I have to go too.

Wow, Matt- Sounds like you got a really good Garmin, or else you have satellites pointed right at your house. I'm amazed that your's works inside the house and garage. Maybe you should put some foil on your head to protect you from the satellites though.

Howard- Stay healthy and take care!

Terri- Hope you're feeling better now soon too.

Where's Kevin? You doing OK out there?

Sunny- Here's my daily dose of good vibes and PD that you get better soon. Come on antibiotics... you will not take the second antibiotics. There has to be another option.

Jody- How are you doing? Are you staying healthy? How are your legs?

AmyBeth- How are you doing out there? Are you lurking? We're thinking of you, and I hope you're healing up.

OK, off to get ready for work now. Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone!

Judy - I"M SO HAPPY FOR YOU! Oh, what a relief! :goodvibes :grouphug:

Sunny - sending lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: ! :grouphug: Thinking good thoughts here, thinking good thoughts and sending your way.......

I was so happy after completing 10 miles last Saturday. I felt like I could have run the half that day. That was a PR for me. My previous longest distance was 8 miles. I wasn't sure I could do it because 2 weeks prior, I developed some soreness in what I think is my adductor muscles. Through some stretching and working out the soreness in the first mile or two, I was able to finish the 10.

Now for the bad - :(

I was supposed to W3/R2 for 50 minutes last night. (Actually, I was supposed to do it Monday night but I was finishing grading reports/projects/finals for my classes.) Anyway, long story short, I couldn't run at all and I could barely walk at a 17 min pace. Every time I tried to get up to a faster pace, I would start limping. My run was a major limp-run causing pain in my left shin. I think it's one of my adductor muscles or pectineous. I doesn't hurt until I try to run or walk at a faster speed and this is after 10 minutes of stretching and slow walking for a mile.

Has anyone experienced this before?

For all those nursing injuries or colds and other, :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: .

YEAH JUDY & MIST

Judy-I am so glad you get to keep your baby! As for the tendonitis, it is something that I will probably always have. It is re-occcuring. Sometimes it acts up, sometimes its fine.

Cam- :wizard: get better sweetie!

Mark-Welcome! No need to go back to lurking. Stay ,no matter what you are training for this is a great group!

I'm feeling much better today, but the kiddos are both about to cough up a lung. NOOOOO, I need 1 day of me feeling better & them in school to get caught up. Today is their last day of school. Ugh! I'm hoping to get back into semi-training by the weekend.

Dave - Just want to let you know Kevin was safe and sound as of Monday. (And still flying high from their victory) Classes are out, but he's still working until tomorrow, plus training and holidays... I'm hoping that we see more of him by the end of the week.

OK, I did 10 min on teh TM last night adn hip hurt, so I did the next 40 on teh eliptical. Still not great, bbut not bad. Now, relatively speaking, it's been hurting much less and my knees don't hurt at all. After the 20-miler, that's pretty good. I'm thinking about no runs/eliptical 'til Saturday, but don't know. How come I tell others to take it easy and fell guilty if I miss? (Maybe because I''ve missed alot lately). Thinking of Curves (mostly owrking arms) tonight or doing pilates at home. :confused3 Lookin gin the mirros at my arms adn feeling my back hurt Saturday tells me I could stnd some upper body help.

Good morning everyone!!! It's almost Christmas!!!! :cool1:  :Pinkbounc :cool1:  Yeah, I'm as bad as a kid! :teeth: I went to the Community Center and did 50 minutes on the elliptical last night. That's a hard workout!! I did almost 4 miles in the 50 minutes, I have no idea if that's good or bad or what. Well, I know it's not good, but I'm hoping it's not too bad. :) I kept the resistance on 3 and tried to keep the cadence around 130, I don't know how close that is to running. I don't think I like working out at the Community Center, too much competition! I didn't have Joe Buff next to me, instead I had Jane Buff next to me. This girl was doing the elliptical machine backwards and keeping her cadence around 160-170!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I was wishing her gone, she was making me look bad. ;)

Cam and Sunny--Are you girls feeling better today?

Susie--I don't know anything about the adductor muscles, but I do know that you should not run or walk when are in pain like that! Especially this close to the marathon. Take a couple of days off, ice and take Advil for swelling. Cross train instead of running/walking to keep your muscle tone and fitness. I definitely know how you feel as I am nursing an IT band injury, but somehow we will make it through this together. :thumbsup2

Mark--Welcome!!!!!! Don't be a lurker, join in the fun!!

Lily--So eating Christmas cards is how you stay so fit? I'm going to have to try that. ;) How is your IT band feeling today?

Matt--I can get a signal for my Garmin inside my house and garage too. We must be magnetic people. :teeth:

Kathy and Lynne--Good to see you again! Looking forward to seeing you both in a couple of weeks.

Colleen--Just in case you aren't gone yet, have a safe trip to Canada and have a very Merry Christmas!!!!

You know, I am kind of disappointed in everyone, here we are in the taper and we haven't had one crazy conversation yet. Let's get to work on that. :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Morning Everyone,

Wow -- I got a lot done yesterday! There was a lot of running around to do for Christmas stuff, and I also had to exchange a pair of running shorts that I feel in love with -- for just the size up (slightly different cut than I'm used to).

Last night, I did 30 minutes on the ellipitical and some weight training and stretches on my legs (also worked in some core).....so far I feel pretty good. There's still the occassional tighteness here and there but the doctor also told me that the shot might not be 100% but said since we hit the taper I should be fine for Marathon weekend. I'm just really a worry wart.

Jody- How are you doing? Are you staying healthy? How are your legs?
I decided to do crosstraining and elliptical/bike stuff while in taper. So far my legs are doing pretty good! How are your legs doing Dave? let's hope that both your legs and my legs don't act up in Disney! It's so weird -- everyone has faith in me but me. My husband keeps on sayng that I will do fine.

Judy - great news on Mist

Krista - RIght now, our training has not differed much from usual. I'm thinking next week will be worse after we've "only" done 10 or 5 and have no L-LRs in site besides the race. :teeth:

Thanks Carrie. Good to know he's safe.

ETA: Take it easy on yourself too. It sounds like you need some rest as well. If you've missed runs, it's because your body needed too. Get yourself in good shape for the race.

Good morning everyone. I feel like a total slug. :sad2:

I was supposed to do 50 min on Monday but since I had this tendonitis thing going on I thought I better take a rest day. Being the anal retentive type that I am...this immediately started making me crazy. I had not missed a single day of training since I started MfM. So I said OK I'll trade my Wednesday rest day with Monday. So this morning I intended to get up and do my 50 min. But instead what happened was my rational brain took over and although I woke up on time I thought "What the hell am I doing?" I'm SUPPOSED TO REST IT! So, OK I didn't train. I rested.

Now I'm REALLY annoyed. :headache: I'm all grouchy and twitching and cranky. OK I KNOW no one can tell the difference from any other day, but that's not the point.

I don't think I like this rest and taper thing. I feel totally sluggish and unproductive. :crazy2:

I also realize I am being a total brat here. There are many of you dealing with much worse than I have going on right now. But I'm so afraid I'm going to blow it...

Oh let me just add two other gems to this: My stepson has MONO! I already told Charlie that if I get it, I'm taking a life. :furious: And that's all there is to that. (I know you're thinking "Gee what a compassionate stepmother you are!" But this kid has not been up to see us in 4 months (He's 17). Ever since dear old dad gave him money to buy a car, it seems he's "too busy" to come up. Charlie is very annoyed - and I'm sure hurt - about this.) But anyway my point is that he's certainly going to come up for Christmas so he can get his presents. And if I get sick.... :furious: Grrrrrrr!

My other gem is this...I have gained FOUR POUNDS! HOLY COW! :faint: I AM a slug! I big fat slug!

Mel - Honest to goodness - you made me really LAUGH OUT LOUD with your response to Lily about eating the card! :rotfl: OMG! Thanks! I needed that! :lmao:

Thank you very much to EVERYONE for your comments about Mist. :goodvibes I am really really happy about this. I found out five other foster moms also bought their horses. Although it kills me that we had to give money to that abuser, I am so glad we were able to save five horses. I just feel really bad for the ones that went back....

:wizard: to everyone dealing with sicknesses and/or injuries. At least you all aren't being a big fat baby like I am!

I'm sorry I'm not catching up with everyone. I'm actually supposed to be interviewing someone in about five minutes.

Lynnda – It is so nice to see you here. I am so glad you had a good doctor’s visit. I hope you’ll be feeling 100% for the holidays!

Lynne – I am sorry you are not enjoying the psych rotation, and I really hope you get some time to go to the NICU unit. Those babies need your calming, loving presence. Can’t wait to see you in just over 2 weeks!

Kathy – I am so glad PT is going well, and hope you will have full range of motion in January. I give you a lot of credit for getting out there each weekend with Lynne. I can’t imagine I could motivate myself without a specific event looming.

Sunny – How are you feeling today, sweetie? Have you been on the antibiotics for 48 hours yet? Do you see any improvement?

Susie – sending pixiedust: for you that whatever you were experiencing last night was an aberration and you’ll be much better very quickly. Did you ice and rest like you are supposed to? Sending you a  and :goodvibes: that you’ll feel much better very quickly.

Tiff – Thank you for the good wishes, sweetie! I am so glad you are feeling better. I hope the kids get over their coughs very quickly and come into Christmas vacation healthy.

Carrie – I think Curves is the perfect compromise, but don’t stress your legs/hips.

Hi, Krista! I think that 4 miles in 50 minutes on the elliptical is awesome! I am curious, though, did you experience any numbness in the balls of your feet being on the elliptical that long? I have found that unless I concentrate on moving my feet periodically on the elliptical, that after about 15 minutes, the balls of my feet are numb. I don’t know if I could do 50 minutes.

Judy– You are not a slug! You have been working all year to earn this period of taper to bring your body to what it has to be on THE DAY!!! If you need any reassurance at all, just read this week and last week’s threads again. We are all going through this to some extent (except my stubborn DH, of course, who never believed in the taper anyway! POW!) Sorry I can’t offer any advice about the 4 lbs. I did the same thing last year and have been completely out of control recently. But I do remember so well thinking at the DL Half that if I’d been a bit more disciplined about my food, I wouldn’t be carrying the equivalent of a 5 lb bag of sugar for the entire 13.1 miles!

Judy--Enjoy the taper, you have EARNED it!! :) Also, the "f" word (fat) and the "s" word (slug) are not allowed!!!! Take them out of your vocabulary NOW!!! Here's some :wizard: that you stay healthy.

Carrie--I think Curves sounds perfect, like Cam said you are still getting a good workout in, but not putting any stress on your hips and legs.

Cam--My feet go numb on the elliptical too. Every once in a while I scrunched my feet around in my shoes, it seemed to help. Are you feeling any better today? Good luck on your test!

Thanks again everyone for making me feel welcome.

I did get up and ran 5 miles this morning, 23 degrees, but I'm getting used to that. Just decided to buy my own ipod, I've been using my sons, but at 12 years old, his taste in music is a little different than mine.

Mark

Mark -- I have been saying forever that the best "toys" I have ever bought for this "free sport" :rotfl: are my Garmin and my ipod shuffle. Of course, I have been lusting after an ipod video for those long days on the treadmill, but still, these are pretty awesome!

Krista -- Thanks for asking how I am feeling. And thanks to everyone who sent good wishes and asked. I am feeling markedly better today (except for a tummy ache from eating too much last night). I thought I'd be worse today because we were out in freezing temps last night car shopping, but it didn't seem to do any harm.

My test this morning was a bust. They got through all the resting tests (I almost fainted when the respiratory therapist "hit a nerve" in my wrist when she tried to do an arterial blood gas? and then had to do a second very painful attempt on the inner elbow). So they did the resting bloodwork, BP, EKG, pulmonary function baseline tests, etc and then couldn't get the computer to calibrate to the bike. Something to do with a bad module. So, I have to go back next Wednesday to try again. I am really dreading the blood draws for this thing. My arm is still painful and tingly.

I am such a whiner :sad1: , aren't I? ;) And, after all that, I didn't even get in any kind of a workout. Hoping to go to the gym tonight, though I really need to go Christmas shopping since Howard finally gave me a list (thanks, Honey! ) and we have to finalize details on the new car we are buying for a family Christmas surprise!

Just a quick drive by.

I was able to get out and did 5 miles with a 10:03 pace. I felt good and the blister on my foot didn't seem to act up. The new pair of socks seemed to help so I will try them again this weekend if I can get them washed before then.

Judy -- Congrats for getting Mist.

Hi Cam, I have the problem with my feet going numb on the elliptical too. I try to just ignore it and put up with it. 50 minutes is the longest I've gone on the elliptical, and usually I try lifting my feet off the pedals to get some more circulation in them.

ETA: Ooooh, I'm glad to see you're starting to feel better Cam. Here's to being on the "Road to Wellville".

Well, just had to pop in quick and share that Santa came and visited me early this year. I went to visit my mom and her and my dad bought me a Garmin for Christmas! WooHoo!!!!! :cool1: Dad thought I would need it for training over the holidays since I'll be running in unfamiliar territory! I'm so excited to open the box and play around with it! Unfortunately, I still have to pack for the 4 of us so we can leave for IL's tomorrow at 4am! Also, had a great run today--since I"m not tapering like the rest of ya'll (sounds nice though!) I switched my runs up and did my LR today--10 miles in just over 92 min. Beat the heck out of that stonker on Sat. If I don't get back on this weekend--will be fighting all the other relatives for computer time---Merry Christmas and Happy Tapering!!!!! You guys rock!!!!
