Wk Of Dec 15 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Yipededodah, yipedeeeah, I just ran 22 miles today - it's over, I am trained, I go do no more except descend into taper madness (weeeeeeeeeee........).

It was an interesting run - about 2hrs 40 in, I think I met the wall - never have before, don't fancy it again. About 2.20 my stomach started rumbling and I felt the need to walk, by 2.44, even running 2 steps was too many - thankfully, there was a handy Mars bar (do you have those?) providing store nearby so I scarfed it down - causing much hilarity from the cyclists outside as I'm cramming in chocolate in my gym kit.

So I set off again, at 4.05 I'm thirsty (thanks chocolate) and have spent all my emergency money - so I head home, grab a glass of water then sneak off the gym in our basement and run the last 20 mins on the treadmill - first 15 at 9km an hour - last 5 at 10km. I managed to shuffle my shuffle so Black Parade was my last song - thankfully no-one else was in there, because I was singing and crying at the same time (the bit where it says 'you'll never break me' gets me every time). It was the best way to end training ever - and now I know I can do this thing.

Hope everyone else had a good one, bring on the pirate speak. Helen

YES!!!! Way to go Helen!!! :thumbsup2 And nothing like a little MCR to finish the run. They rock...and lately Black Parade is my favorite to run to! They kick butt in concert. I'm so jealous you are tapering...my last biggie is this Sunday.

Angie - SO glad to hear that you are no longer in pain!!!!! That is a wonderful Christmas gift!

Lisa - I think you canme around about teh time I fell off teh face fo teh earth. SO great to hear your words, though. You have captured teh essence of WISH!

Helen - Woo hoo on the 22 miles!

I thought my 20 would eb outside, but a driveby proved that teh snow didn't really melt, just compreseed to 2 to 4 inches of ice. That won't be goen by morning. :-( I am gettign videos on my palm and a book on Scott's mp3, as I discovered tonightthat my sync cord has sunk. Ther is a ~1.5 mile stretch of bik path clear. WOndering if I can take the out and back or if TM and video is better. We shall see...

Carrie -

I'm considering either an Ipod Touch or some sort of Palm or other MP3 player. I'd love to be able to down load a book and video onto some portable reader.

Any suggetions of a good one that can do both???

Thanks!

AFAIK, if you want to use iTunes movies, you must have an iPod. I just learned how to put my DVDs onto my Palm. Not hard, but took a little reasearch adn some ~$30 software. Palms can do mp3s easily. I depend on mine fro syncing with outlook and such more than anything, so that's a bonus. Plus, you can just pop SD memory cards into them. I've neevr used an iPod myslef, but they seem much more portable. I'll never take my Palm on an outdoor run.

Good Morning Everyone!

I will post now since after my run I am hopping in the car for a 14 hour drive. Yes, I know that is not the way to recover from a 20 mile run but it can not be helped. The 4 other passengers in the car think showering is more important than posting. :surfweb:
I usually love the long car trips and prepare for them with great care. This year I am leaving it all to my husband. Sure, I bought the drinks and snacks, wrapped the presents and supervised the kids packing. Yes, I took the dog to the kennel, stopped the mail, and bought all new batteries for the kids headphones. I know, I know, I charged all the electronic games, visited the video store for new movies and even printed the car games from the internet. But somehow it seems as if I am giving up control because he is in charge of getting it all in the car. I guess its a good thing I already have my official YARC card.
I am wishing everyone a beautiful weekend! Get your runs in and then sit back and savor the holday season! Its time for eggnog and cookies and your favorite christmas movies. :happytv:

Happy Trails!

Way to go, Helen! And I agree with both of you. MCR is one of my favs to listen to while training as well.

I'm fueling up for my 20 miler today. Looks like a good day for it. 48-50 deg and cloudy. I'll be back to chat with you all this evening.

Good luck to everyone on their last really long LR/LW this weekend.

Gotta go get ready to run. In the famous words of Tone Loc: Let's do it. :thumbsup2

Good luck to all with those last LRs this weekend! I'm having those dreaded phantom, last LR pains right now. My hip hurts, my calf hurts, my foot hurts--good thing I'm not running until tomorrow. I'm so nervous about the 20 miles tomorrow. Doesn't make much sense why though. I've successfully completed two marathons this year, one with only training to 18 miles. Completed 20 miles in September under terrible conditions. So why should I be sitting here shaking in my Brooks??? Logically, I should be really confident going into this, but not so much. Maybe the 3 cups of coffee are causing the shaking?

Cecilia--safe travels--you're heading my way, no? Might see a little of the white stuff Christmas day--other than that your golden!

Helen--WTG on the 22! Time for taper!!!!

Hello All!

Sorry I haven't checked in here for awhile. Just wanted to add my name to the list of taper-starters; I finished my last LR yesterday: 22 miles on the gym treadmill  ; I had to; we just received 6 more inches of snow. It was OK, I watched two movies on cable.

I'm still scanning the posts; I lose track of this thread because it grows so fast! But, I figure with only 3 weeks to go until Marathon Weekend, I will do my best to keep up with my fellow WISHers!

Happy training everyone! :smickey:

Hey Team.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my plea for help about the sore feet. I have gotten new shoes and the difference is amazing. I can't believe I was running in the old ones. :guilty: Anyway, I am excited and somewhat nervous about the upcoming marathon. I will break the news to my family on Christmas :dance3: and then do at least one more long run before tapering back.

I apologize if the following has already been asked, I have had almost no time to check the posts in the recent Christmas festivities. Are there WISHers who are experienced at marathons and planning to finish just ahead of the sweepers -- I figure that is where I will be and would like an added assurance that I am staying "up to speed" I have been working with the Garmin and have gotten pretty good at keeping a pace without spending all my time looking at the thing. I'll be watching for those green shirts believe me.

Merry Christmas everybody.
Dona

Nothing new to report- finishing up mailing Christmas cards (I knew I should have bought the "Happy Holidays" cards instead! ;) )

Stephanie- I'm in the same boat- I have my 20 miler tomorrow and I'm dreading it. Our weather is fine, I ran 20 about a month ago and lived, and I did a half last weekend, but somehow I think 20 tomorrow is going to be awful. I've missed a few weekly runs over the last month and feel like a slug. Nothing like training in the holidays!

Helen- you rock! I need to go update my iPod now! I've stolen tons of Harry's treats on the road- it's a very strange feeling to be popping in Cheetos or Skittles while running! I'm pretty sure I'm making a spectacle of myself for all the cars passing me...

Got to run to the post office (ok, drive).

Sneaking into office to post....
got my 20 miles in. Man those hills were killer! 3:24:19. Not too shabby considering I bolted out the first four miles thinking I would keep up with the big boys. Instead I ended up running most of it alone. WHY do I think I can run with the fast crowd and not get burned?

Thanks for the update on weather Stephanie!

Happy Tapering everyone!

Cecilia

20 miles for me today......my feet are sore but other than that I am fine. I am so ready for taper.

All these BIG miles from everyone today! I did 5. HaHa!:lmao: But I have eaten like I did 24.:rotfl:

WTG on all the taper! Even though I am pretending that I don't want to run WDW, it is hard to read all these posts about the marathon. You guys take care of Bree this year..she is running it by herself this year b/c I will not be there.:sad1:

Hello WISHers!

I am very happy to report that I am now officially in my taper! I did my 23 miles today and I know believe that I can actually finish this dang marathon. I even had enough left over for a kick the last quarter mile! Total time was 3:53.

Now my legs are dead and I think I'll spend the rest of the evening on the couch with my family waiting on me (isn't that the way it should be?!?). I have to admit I skipped my ice bath because I was so cold and just wanted to get warm. I may regret that tomorrow.

Congrats to all who've gotten in that last, tough LR/LW and PD for those doing theirs tomorrow. You can do it!!!!!

Happy training, all!
Renee

I'm joining the taper club!

Did 9 with the winter running group this morning. Great run - we all met at one of the member's house, ran thru downtown and looked at all the Christmas decorations, then came back and had a fabulous breakfast. Did another 3.75 on the TM tonight to finally get in the 12-13 miles that I'd been shooting for post-injury. I actually could have stopped with the 9 miles this morning - we ran more hills than I've ever done in any run, but I was determined to do at least 12 this weekend!

Congrats to everyone who's done long distances today and good luck to those finishing up tomorrow! 3 weeks to go...

Jackie
