Wk of Dec 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - pucker up buttercup! Here is a big sloppy one from Arkansas!! :love2: :love1: Sorry, I just couldn't resist

Christa - sorry about your knee! I'll bet rest will be better for it than another LR anyway.

Sara - glad your back. My toes are definitely better but the shopping is not going so great. I don't think very much of my stuff is going to arrive on time

Today i did a 6 milerr and it felt really good. I followed the run w/ an hour bike ride which also felt great.

Lily & Melissa - :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :teeth: :rotfl: :rotfl2: I didn't mean YOU GUYS! I meant people I DON'T KNOW!! :teeth: :lmao:

Uuuum, how many of the people here have you actually met Judy?

Umm...well....actually only Jodi.

But don't be scared guys. I'm just trying to stay healthy! :goodvibes

Judy - :scared: SO glad you didn't mean us, though! :lmao: Glad you're feeling better!

CAm & SUnny - HOpe you're both feeling better soon!

Christa - Oh no!!! You will do much better skipping you 20 than making your injury worse!!! :wizard:

I did fine on the TM last night. Things still felt tight but not painful. DH and I decided that we would both add another est day tonight, though. I think we're using our injuries as an excuse, but since I'm in the same city as him today, we desparately need to shop. 3 out of 20 is not good for who's done. Thansk for all the good wishes on injurie s and good weather. It's looking good! :cool1:

Injured People - Re-read teh preventing injuries section in Mfm! It will answer all of your questions on whther or not to push yourself thrugh an injury. Also, I told dh about the TM stand offs yesterday. he said, "I don't understand why people would rather run on TMs than in DIsney." :confused3 Took me a minute to interpret. He says,"WHy would they push now an drisk not running DIsney???" He's rigth all. Let's be careful!

BTW, his only goal is to see Chip & DAle at the finish this year. BTW, we have a pic where he is just past one of tehm with his hand out. SO, we're pretty sure he slapped hands with one of them, but he swears he didn't see them at the end. :rotfl:

At this stage of the game it is better to cross train (i.e. swim, bike, or elliptical) than to "push through" an injury. Save that for race day. If the cross training hurts as well....see a doc. Something is very wrong.

We had a runner last year that I just found out this week--had run the entire marathon--with a STRESS FRACTURE in his foot! HE didn't know. He did take it easy towards the end and ran the event fine except with the pain. 3 months later finally got it checked out.

If it is only hurting while running--you should be okay maybe to run the race...if it is hurting after 3 days off, a restart, and then another 3 days off (I think that is what Bingham suggests in MFM) then something is up and it NEEDS to be checked.

But if you have to pass on the rest of your "long runs" between now and race day--SERIOUSLY...it isn't a big deal!

Remember--boo boo = 3 days off from running (I think he includes even cross training). Then try again--if it still hurts..3 days off again. Then go again. If it still hurts---time to get it checked.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for all the injuries!

Oh HEY JUDY:

 *SMOOCH*

:rotfl2:

Man, they're dropping like flies in the communications center. Just had two call out with bronchitis. The rest have been told, "If you breathe on me, you're fired!" ;)

To all of the sick and injured - I hope you get to feeling better soon.

And Juudddyyy..... :love2:
:rotfl2:

Ok, I am really loopy. I meant to do my 10 miler today. It's scheduled for tomorrow, but Chad got called into work...blah, blah, blah. So, I went to take a nap at 1. Meant to get up at 2 so I could get in 10 miles before it got dark. Well, I woke up at 6! I am exhausted & needed the rest, but there goes my 10 miler! Oh well. I am going back to bed now...

I don't like kissing strangers either Judy. What makes people think they can kiss me? Luckily, I give off enough prickly vibes that most people quickly figure out I am not bending in for the peck. I have had friends apologize for hugging me.

I am extra concerned about getting sick because we get to see my Dad next week. He has almost no immune system left so even a cold is serious around him.

Question: Does shopping count as cross training? please? I wore my running shoes - now that WAS wishful thinking!

Cecilia

Cecillia - I definitely count shopping. I think most of the marathon training is about the mental endurance. If shopping doesn't test that, i don't know what does!

Hey all, I was out of town for a sales presentation. I am so tired of shaking peoples hands. I carry hand santizer with me because I am paranoid. Last week at the convention was worse. Now people at work are coughing. And we work in a small office, those germs travel!!!

I didn't get in my run today because I was gone. Tomorrow I will either cross train or do a light run.... then Saturday is my final long run. I am aiming at 11, but will settle with 10. As long as it is a good 10!!

I still haven't decided what I am wearing for the race. I don't have tights, just pants. But then I was thinking of getting some capri pants. Maybe it's too late for that, shouldn't I break them in a little??

Judy - Was is it about you that makes strangers want to kiss you??? Hmmm, can't wait to meet you and find out!!

Big VIc -I have been putting out the warning for the last month. My entire office knows that if one of them gets me sick, they are goners. Now how do I threaten my kid with that?? In the last week I have been through pink eye, vomitting, coughing and fever. So far so good for me!!

Oh oh oh... this morning I met with a banker for work business and I just had to mention the marathon. It's just common talk for me now!!!

Drive by... :moped:

Sunny...bronchitis is usually viral...certainly possible to catch it from someone else, just like a cold.

Cam...knowing a bit about your cardiac history, I would recommend the Zicam alone. Airborne has echinacea which can possibly interact with other drugs that you might be taking for your heart. Also, with the recent arrhyhmia episodes, the fewer things you add the better. Airborne's got a lot of stuff in it, so it would be safer to take something with only a single ingredient.

Judy...as MelR said, if it's not wet and sloppy, it's not a real kiss :love2: :umbrella:

Cecilia...I'm not terribly touchy-feely either...no one in my family's really like that. One of the girls at work says it's because I'm a Cancer and I keep my hard shell around me for protection :confused3

Susie...thanks for checking out the space at POP. Did you happen to see a good place to take the group photo?

Cam and Sunny - sorry to hear you've got colds, too. I keep thinking better now than in 3 weeks. Mine is a little better. No more sore throat, but still congested. I'm hoping I can get to the gym this weekend.

Lisa - So good to hear your words of wisdom again!

Terri

Hey all - sorry I've not been around, work took over my entire life. still I've been thinking of you all - especially during this last big week of training. Hope everyone is doing okay - I'm in London at the moment so can't check the latest post for updates!!! So, come this weekend, that's it - you've trained for a marathon HOOORRAAAYYY you can do no more now but enjoy it on the day!!! Happy tapering, and I'll check in on you all when I get home beginning of January - Helen

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Did my cross training yesterday, 50 min on the elliptical including 5 min warm up and cool downs. Did a good bit of stretching afterwards. Still debating how far to run on Saturday, but I'm listening to Sara and will see how I feel on Saturday. Today's a rest day for me.

Kristi- Wow, you must be absolutely exhausted to nap until 6pm. Your body must have really needed the rest. Take care of yourself.

Judy- You know that at the meet on Friday everyone's going to be kissing you, right? How's your knee these day anyway - the one your doctor wants to operate on?

Amy- How are you doing? Just wanted to let you know we're thinking of you.

Jodi- How are you doing this week? Hanging in there?

Hey, this is totally OT, but has anyone seen this new Hallmark Ornament? I have to get it to put in my office. I think I'll wait to see if I can find it half price after Christmas though. I just love that Luke is training by RUNNING with Yoda. BTW: I did get the WISH ornament from Target, and it's hanging on my tree now. My princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, even know what WISH stands for. That makes me feel good.

Oh Dave - you do *need* that ornament - that's awesome!

I looked at 2 local Targets & cannot find that WISH ornament. :confused3

Chad won't be home until 4:30 today, so no outdoor training (it will be dark). I am going to try to get to the Y and either put in some miles on the TM or just xt. We'll see...

WAH...WAH...WAH...
DH went for his last LR and I am sitting here :surfweb: ! He has told me that there is NO WAY I can run at least until Monday. This is harder than doing the 20 miler.
My knee feels better but still skipping it....My sis is a RN and explained what was wrong with my knee...she has the same problem even though she doesn't run long (yet). She said rest would be best...I am not used to stopping, but for WDW I guess I can (at least for 1 LR).

Dave - I say bag the last LR too...like everyone says - and I know but don't want to listen.....even if that last 20 miler was bad...you did do it. We can be in illing taper mode together!

Judy - :love2: :love2: :love1: :love1:  ...there, you have been kissed and hugged, with no germs! :thumbsup2

I saw Bree and baby yesterday...I told her to stop by and post. She said if she could she would. He is one cute kid! She is planning on doing a 1/2 this spring and Goofy 08. She told me I would have to push the baby jogger so we could run together. :lmao:

Dave - that onrament reminded me of all of the ways parents get their workouts in!! I've hiked/backpacked w/ the boy on my back in a kid backpack. I've pushed him in a jogger, pulled him in a trailer, put him in the cockpit of my kayak and pulled him in his kayak behind mine! He wasn't as cooperative as yoda though. Generally, he had no words of wisdom and i had to bribe him w/ fruit chews and m&m's. Now he's getting too big to do most of that! Too bad... I was really doing some good resistance workouts!! :cool1: :teeth:

Christa - did you take any pics? If so, post them and tell bree we want to see her!
