Wk of Dec 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

I know we all like pictures, so here's a couple from the Holiday Half Marathon last Sat. First one is a Southern California raised schmuck wearing his "25 degrees at race start" outfit, second one shortly after I'd torn off my hat in desperation yards from the finish to become more aerodynamic. :confused3 Third is DW finishing up her 8k still smiling!

Trying to catch up on everyone here and will probably do more tonight when I will actually have more free time. Lynnda is sick again so I get to help her out even more now. I think she is actually enjoying me waiting on her a little too much... ;)

I went out for 5 miles last night and felt good. I think the overall pace was 10:16 and the splits were 11:08, 10:52, 9:53, 9:46, and 9:43. I think this weekend is the last 20+ mile run so I am hoping for good weather.

Mel - A group of us from the other coast have signed up for the Sarasota half/full marathon. I am just doing the half this time.

Matt - Good job on the race and great pictures.

Bill

I agree with Lily and Pat about the VIP tent; it strikes me as Disney finding yet another way to make their race outrageously expensive.

Carrie- loved the video. I had to send it to everyone I know :thumbsup2

My Y has Star Trac TMs that go 99:59. I reset that thing twice last year doing my 22 miler :faint:

Matt-- Great pics!

I have my running stuff with me. I haven't decided yet whether I'll go to my gym at lunchtime which means no more than 6 miles TOPS, or if I'll go to the Y after work and then have time to do the 9 I originally planned for today...

Either way... My race Kyanno's arrived last night :Pinkbounc So I'll be breaking them in. I want to do a TM run first, then I plan to wear them for this weekend's final mega LR.

Hey, where's Judy?

Where's Lynn? Helen?

Sunny

Diane - BTW, I'm guessing that stuffy atheletes doon't do DIsney, so I'm sure you'll have fun! I understand SUsan's phobia. I have a bit of one too after my niece freaked out when I took her to one in the dark. It was ok last year, though.

Mel - TSO and Osborne Lights??? What could be better? I can't wait!!! OMG! I think that guy needs to find a new doctor's office!

Bill - I just cannot believe that Lynnda is enjoying this one bit. Poor thing's sick and you go and iimply she might be exploting it? Terrible! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Matt - Awesome pics! (And nice shirt!)

Sunny - Yay for the new shoes!

MelR - lol. That's somethign I would do. WOuldn't want to have to take on extra step.

Lily - I need to get shop around the corner. ALways wanted to see that (at least since You've Got Mail's been out. Yay! SOmeone actually got their 8-miler in.

FYI - I did a manual start on my TM and it gave me a very gradual stop at 60. DH did teh quick start and that didn't work so well.

BTW - My doc knows my family heart history and that I'm running my 2nd marathon and we're watching cholesterol levels and such, but nothing to indicate needing the stress test yet.

Where are our missing teammates????

Good Morning. Last night I attempted to cross train. I did an exercise video that barely worked up a sweat. Then DD3 threw up. Argggg. So then I attempted to do a Yoga tape... DD3 threw up again. I gave up and cudddled her. Tonight I will try to run at the Y while the girls are in swim class. DH watches them for me, he knows I need my training. Tho DH just started training for a mini tri, so he asked if he could get in a mini bike ride at the end.

Since I live in Wisconsin, I think I will just wait out the cold morning before the race. Plus, if I am too warm at race start, I might not be as motivated to move. I guess I will see how the VIP tent goes over and decide on that for the future. $50 can buy me lots of treats!!!

Oh and my treadmill goes past 60, but I think it may shut off at 99:59. I don't know, I have only had enough patience for 70 minutes on the treadmill. I would rather run circles around the indoor track for 2 hours than run for 2 hours on my treadmill. Maybe the Y treadmills would like me better!

I also agree! I also think it's probably more fun to hang out with the 'commoners' anyway! :rotfl:

Matt - awesome pics!

No xt for me today. I have another concert tonight... :rolleyes1

Oh, no! Are you stalking again? Do I need to contribute to your bail fund? :lmao:

:rotfl2: You are too funny!

Thanks! :teeth:

I am bound & determined to get that running hat signed so I can wear it for the half! Keep your fingers crossed!

Wait! Doesn't walking around on tiptoes -> :tiptoe: count as cross training? :rotfl2:

Good morning team! The run went okay last night, I had some pain in my quad, it never went down to my knee though. I had to stop and keep readjusting my ITBS band several times, I think maybe I didn't have it in the exact spot? I don't know. It could have been my shoes too, I wore my old ones last night, I'm thinking the cushioning is breaking down in them. I'm going to run 6 tonight (I was supposed to run 6 last night, but ran 5 instead, so I'm swapping my runs) with my new shoes--hoping that helps.

My take on the VIP Tent--it's for wimps!! Waiting in the Epcot parking lot for at least an hour before and freezing--that's all part of the marathon experience and one I wouldn't change for anything. It's character building. :)

Mel--Sorry you had to deal with that guy! That does NOT sound like fun. How are your feet feeling today? Better? I'll get those cookies and fudge right in the mail. ;)

MelR--Have you recovered from your sock injuries? Is the boy feeling better?

Bill--I hope that Lynnda is feeling better. Is she sick sick (like flu, sore throat) or baby related sick? Pass on the :wizard: for us! And be a good nurse to her!!!!

Mike--I'm so glad that your wife is feeling a little better.

Matt--Nice pics. Tell your wife awesome job on her 8K--she looks so happy at the finish line.

Carrie--It sounds like you had a good run last night. Is your hip feeling any better?

Heather--I'm going to pretend that I did not read that. I have confidence in you that you will be able to finish the marathon.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for all of those still fighting injuries and illnesses! If we can make it through this week, I know we'll be golden for the marathon!!!!

Krista - My little toes have not yet recovered!!! I actually considered doing the 3m run on the tm in my teva's last night, but i chickened out! The boy is doing better! Thanks for asking.

Matt - loved the pics!!!

Colleen - i'm ready for that race rpt!!

I think i'm going to do some shopping today b/c it has to get done. i hate it!!!!!! But here i go. This surely builds endurance!

I have a ProForm and it stops after 99 mins, 59 seconds. Scared the heck out of me the first time it happened. :lmao:
Me too! I found that out last year for the first time during my 22 mile TM LR, good thing I was/am slow or it would have been very ugly!

Diane, it seems like you’ve got a great support thing going on and so much figured out already! I too hope you all can have the best experience ever! Reading about what you said about porta potty issues that Susan faces, I am thinking about DS who has issues about that too. Hmmm, wondering if I may have responded hastily about not wanting to partake of the extras. I’ll have to consult with DS over this I suppose since the offer is available.

Mel, stinks about weirdo patient. Glad you’ve got another plan in place to avoid future encounters though.

MelR, hmmm you have a TM that stops after DS gets bored. That’s different! Have fun shopping, not my idea of fun any more either.

Matt, I love the pics you posted.

Bill, good for you to take care of Lynnda so well. I know she really IS enjoying that you are fluffing for her, and that she WISHes she were feeling better to enjoy it more. Hope she feels better soon. I just know there is no way she would Ever milk the pampering and all. We women would never do that!

Sunny, Yay! For new shoes. Enjoy whatever you decide with your workout.

Carrie, I watched the movie on TCM since it happened to be on while I was taking the steps. I don’t own it. It was interesting. I glad I watched the other one first though, it would have tainted my opinion of the newer remake. I like the You’ve Got Mail version better I think, but I do like movies with Jimmy Stewart so there was no way to lose for me.

Hmmm, maybe I'll hafta go on a hunt!

Jen, sorry about DD thing. Hope everyone else stays healthy and DD is better. Good thing DH is starting his training as taper begins. It may not be so bad that way. Did you plan your events this way? I’m with you about the cold start. I am actually hoping it is similar to last year. I did so well because of it. I run/wog best when I am not too warm.

Kristi, have fun and good luck with that hat! You have a marker all in the ready?

Krista, toss those old shoes. We don’t want you hurting race day. I finally broke down and tossed a pair. I’m getting set to toss the other this weekend. Looks like my new ones are going to be fine. OK, VIP tent = wimps! I wonder if we will have some jeering going on as we walk by. (tee hee) Nawwww just kidding really.

If VIP works for those that want the opportunity, I think it is fine. I really am glad that they have it open to many instead of jus an “elite” group. That is one really good thing to say for it. Anyone can participate!

DH baked cookies that I liked after supper last night, so I enjoyed my pre TM with cookies and milk. Last night after putting in the TM steps there I am coming onto a mess. One of the pups threw up and I am spot cleaning the rugs that DH freshly cleaned recently. What a lovely way to end the evening. I think I got extra stretching and XT points too. So it was after midnight before I was able to jump in bed. I’m not sure what I will get to with training tonight.

I am really looking forward to having this weekend behind me with the back-to-back LRs looming. It may actually be something I can get done outside too! I'm WISHing for that for sure.

Update on the VIP Lounge: Full marathon is now full, didn't even last 24 hours?

I too decided to pass, 50% of the entry fee seemed not just a little steep but a lot steep for not a lot of added value. That and DW and I are running different races so it would have been even more added expense. And who needs VIP fan seating at the finish if you're chasing your beloved around the course scream teamin it up. :)

Wow! that filled up fast. I am glad though that I got it set for DH to wait for us for the full.

OK, so, I'll be the one with the paper bag over her head when I go into the VIP tent....

Craig, you are our WoW person..Words of Wisdom. I appreciated what you wrote to Dave. Thanks!
Cam, so sorry I forgot to say HURRAY!! for HHI finding your Garmin!! :thumbsup2
Mel , Kickboxing sounds like GREAT cross training for nasty patients!!
Matt you and DW looking good getting across that finish line! The park looks like it was a pretty place for a race.
Monica Not a 10K in the snow, I hope? You'll be great! :thumbsup2
Carrie Hope your hip is better. Way to go on the TM's!!:dogdance: Hey, sounds like you have the Charlie Brown Christmas tree! No matter how it looks, the little tree is probably so proud you picked it..
Krista, certainly hope your new shoes are the answer!
Sunny, hooray for new shoes! I returned my other Asics this past weekend and got my Kayano's back. Guess I've found my shoe. :)
Bill, so sorry to hear Lynnda is ill again. Glad you were able to get your run in, though!

lol Anne - Yes, I have a 7.5 foot CHrlie brown tree. Didn't quite chage like his did when I put the ornaments on, though. I like your thinking, though. The little tree is so happy to haev ahome for Chrtimas. :goodvibes :teeth:

My hip feels ok today. Knee is a little weird, but not liek it has been. After the 15.5-miler, though, it took 2 days before I was really hurting. :confused3

Hi team!

Jodi - I am aiming for 12 minute miles as well! Let me know if you want to buddy up! I would love a friend! I am doing the run/walk 5:1 intervals.

MelR - The socks thing sounds like something I would do! I hope they are better soon.

Carrie - Isn't the weather awesome! I am so amazed! I am cautiously optimistic about the 20 miler as well!

Heather - I am pulling for you, as I know everyone else is. Once you get there, with the crowds and all there will be lots of distractions...or so I am hoping. ;) I can totally understand life getting in the way - just attempting it is awesome!

Let's see...first I want to tell you about my 18 miler. Here in MI, we had a WARM spell the week after Thanksgiving - like 50 degrees, which is balmy! It was supposed to get very cold and snowy for the weekend, so on Wednesday I went out to do my 18 miler. I had on shorts, a WISH t-shirt (duh!) and a hat...and as I drove to the trail where I do my LRs, it started raining. I wasn't phased...I got out and started running. It started thunderstorming. I was running in a wooded area - great! But, I was about 4 miles out by the time it got bad enough to turn around, so I kept going. It poured off and on for the whole time I was running. I was soaked almost the whole time. So, if it rains, I am ready! It was so surreal to be running for that long, in November, in MI, in a thunderstorm, wearing shorts and a t-shirt! But I did it! Truly amazing to me.

So, this week I did 8 miles on the snow-covered trail. Definitely not my favorite. Give me wet over cold any day! This cold, at least...I did see four deer run across the trail near the end - that made me smile!

It looks like a room may open up for us at Caribbean Beach - I am hoping and praying it does. We are staying at the Sheraton Safari right now, but the whole vision included staying on property.

It is so amazing to me that almost a year ago, I stood in MGM and watched people run by and said, "I am going to do this next year." I wanted to really and truly, but didn't think I really would. But I have worked hard and I think I will be as ready as I can be. This is a huge thing for me...and it means a lot more than just a race.

I know I don't post often, but this group has truly inspired me to keep going when I didn't think I could! And the shirt in my exercise clothes drawer is great tangible motivation. I can't wait to meet you all!

OK then I'll know who to wave to as I march past! I'm glad that you are going to take advantage of something new and I look forward to hear the good things about your adventure in our after race report thread.

Bekah! Glad that you've made it back here, we need you to join in our posting frenzy. I love going on the trail we have here. Yuck on the rain though. I'm for the cold not the wet.

Well, I went to try to find some stray puppies. Hope they come home for a bit... :dog2: pug: paw: paw: paw: paw: paw: paw: paw: paw:

Bekah - Good to see you. Yuck, that 18-0miler sounds awful, but ours was not too great. I'm afraid to even post Saturday's forcast for my berg. It just can't be true!
