Wk Of Dec 1 - WISH Walking/Running Club

To the WISHers who did the Victory race this last weekend, John Bingham, says thanks to the WISH team members who supported the race.

Glad to be walking again Panda:hippie:

Hi Everyone,

Just had to tell you that I had the most amazing run today. We ended up doing 8 miles of hill training. One of my friends is running the Mercedes Marathon so she needs hills, hills and more hills. We ran it in 1:16 and I led most of the way home. Ah...don't you just love the good runs? I thought of all of you dealing with snow and horrible weather. um, turn the heat up while your on the treadmill and you have ideal Disney training?

Jen - I have been beaten by someone pushing a stroller. And yes, I was gunning it trying to finish before him. What really annoyed me was he pushed in front of me as we approached the chute. Would it have killed him to give me that second? I wasn't going to bump in and risk tipping the stroller.... yea, even me.

Dana - oh, there are no words.:grouphug: :grouphug:

Take care!
Cecilia

Dana

I am so sorry for your loss. It's never easy, and to have this kitty so closely linked with Matthew must hurt deep. The little creatures in our homes give us nothing but love and companionship, and when we lose them it hurts so, but it also shows the love in ourselves to open our lives to them. Please accept our best wishes.

Krista

I'm glad you're in the pool for January. It would have seemed odd to have Steve with a race packet, but not you. I assume you were discrete when you pushed over your friend and torqued her knee  .

Today is day #2 of Martha's new career adventure, and it was to be leftovers for dinner. At the last minute she zips off to a company dinner at one of the truly elegant restaurants in the metro area, so here I am alone eating out of tupperware containers.

Today was also my last teaching day of the semester at the College, and next Tuesday is the last teaching day at the Institute. I'm tired as can be, but surprisingly chipper about it all. The end is in sight!

It also looks like I've done my last outdoor run for a long time. We didn't get much snow Sunday evening, but in New England tradition is was followed by mist, rain, more snow, more rain, sun, then really cold. The roads are fine, but the sidewalks and roadsides are skating rinks. In my youth I could run on that stuff since I was (1) a lot more agile and (2) if I fell I just got back up. Now a fall would likely break something (or everything), so unless the paths clear up it's the indoor track and treadmill for me. I have 18 scheduled for Sunday, and I'm sooooooooo looking forward to doing that on the treadmill.

In the words of Miracle Max, "why don't you just give me a paper cut and pour lemon juice in it?"

Craig

I did 3.5 on the TM last night, then walked one mile with the WT tonight looking at holiday lights. Seeing the podiatrist tomorrow to find out what's up with my ankle. If it's soft tissue, that's rehab-able. If joint, well, that's a long-term problem.

Dana...:grouphug: :grouphug:

Mike...come on down! We're looking at highs in the 80s this weekend if anyone wants to train in that kind of weather!

Cecilia...congrats on your 8 miles!

Speaking of weather, I have a question for y'all. Due to a set of unusual circumstances, DH and I will have 2 weeks off during the holidays. We're thinking of getting in the car and driving until we find snow. DD14 and I have only seen snow twice, WT has never seen it. How far north do you think we'd have to go to find snow in late December?

More north than NC - but it sounds like Craig & Martha might be a guarantee!

Craig - You may want to head down south for that 18 miler. The forecast for Sunday here is 69 and sunny!

Got the long-awaited cortisone shot this afternoon. Ran 3 miles on the TM this morning, then called the dr's office at 8:00 and scheduled the injection. He told me not to run again until Friday, which I will gladly wait for if it means I can run and then not hobble around for 3 days!

 You have only seen snow twice? Wow, do I have stories to tell you over 26.2 miles on January 13th!

Snow can be found in NC mountains, we are about a 10 hour drive northwest of Florida and we would have to drive another 1-2 hours into the Appalachian mountains to find it.

Dana, so sorry about your kitty! I can't imagine what you are feeling especially with the attachment to Matthew.:grouphug:

Craig, 18 on a treadmill? Good luck my friend. What does Martha have up for this weekend?

Cecilia, yeah on your awesome run!

Carrie, will you have a 4 week taper? I am a week ahead too, sort of, the end effect is my 20 miler might happen on December 16th.

Krista, for being able to run the half!

Nothing for me today for a workout, too busy with life. I will be able to get in both a yoga session and a 60 run/walk tomorrow, so things will even out.
I posted on a different thread that my Magical Express vouchers came today! Amazing the small things that still excite me!

Hey Chet! Welcome!

Colleen

Dana--:grouphug: :grouphug: and more :grouphug:

Craig--Wow, 18 on the dreadmill! I'll be thinking of you--I'll be doing the 18 outside on Sunday. Wanna make the trip down south? We'll be in the 70s

Colleen--Thanks for the ME reminder. We need to get on the ball with that!

Christa--WooHoo!!!! So glad to hear that you got a spot--sorry about your friend though. I was actually schemeing for you as well--I have a friend who is registered for Donald and had to have knee surgery right before Thanksgiving. Can't wait to scream you to the finish!

No training to report from me. Was extremely tired on Monday and then today no time. Will get in some kind of TM run tomorrow--somewhere between 3 and 5 miles.

Mel - I vote for Boston! We could have a mini-wish meet with craig & martha! Somehow I doubt you want to come this far north though. ;)

Kim - yup, that's our house. Chad does an awesome job on the lights and has won our city's decorating contest several times (and placed the other years). I think the best part is that the snowflakes on the roof randomly blink on and off - like it's snowing. In fact, they look very cool right now since our roof is covered in real snow, and they kind of glow underneath that.

Good morning from the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee! Pretty nice place. Sure beats a Hotel 6. :thumbsup2

Here for a funding conference.

Went out for a 4.5 mile run this morning. Four and a half laps around the perimeter.

Craig - I have 18 scheduled for Sunday too. You and Martha come on down to Niceville for your training runs.

I'll try to catch up with everyone later. Time to go talk money. :)

Hey everyone... Well Monday I did 45 minutes on the home TM doing speed walking and some hills. But unfortunately my home TM is biting the dust after 7 years. I am just hoping it holds together until after the marathon!!! Last night I did 40 on the elliptical at the Y.

Craig - I am indoor bound also. Sounds like Wisconsin has snow and ice removal like you do. In fact, many of the side walks here have yet to be cleared from the weekend blizzard. They "say" they will be issuing fines today, but even if the walks are cleared now they will be icey and snow chunky!

Krista -YAHOOOOOO, so glad you are running! :cheer2:

Mel - We have lots of snow in Wisconsin. Come on up!!! Colleen and I can both tell you all about living in the Northwoods with 6 month winters!!! :scared1:

Dana - I am so sorry for your loss!! :grouphug:

OK, work is just crazy busy for me. I need coffee to fuel me up!!! Have a great day all!

Hey Vic, maybe if ya'll met at a Motel 6 vs. the Gaylord Palms there would be a bit more money to fund with  . Are you going to get to see Mickey while you're in town?

Mel - Northern VA would be far enough north to see a dusting of snow this morning but it will be gone tomorrow. We've only had 1 or 2 white Christmas' in the 17 years I've lived here. Better keep on driving past us.

Krista - Leave it to a Steeler's fan to find some sort of nefarious way to sneak in at the last minute. Kind of like Big Ben scrambling 30 yards to beat the Browns in the last minutes :headache: .

Mel

We can show you snow and a good time, but it will take 2.5 days to get here. We don't have much on the ground but it's been cold enough the last few days that it's turning into white ice, which won't melt until March I suspect.

Jackie and Colleen in NC, Stephanie in ARK, and Big Vic in FLA.

We'd love to come down for a comfortable outdoor run this weekend. The funny thing is Martha and I did exactly the same thing 3 years ago this very weekend. It was Martha's first half marathon effort plus I was really fighting calf injuries, so we flew to Orlando on Thursday evening, hung out, did an 11 miler on Saturday, and come home Sunday. When Martha told a few folks we were flying 1300 miles for a long training run they questioned her sanity.

But I ask you, long run on the treadmill, or long run around the Boardwalk and Cresecent Lake, down to the Studios and back, say 5 laps. Which would you choose?

Craig

Hi all!
Yes, I know it's been months since I have posted. I have however been lurking or Christa has kept me up to date on everyone. I have been up to my ears in motherhood, and haven't had much time to spend on the boards. It hit me the other day that I am about a month out from the race and I better get my tail back on the boards to rekindle some friendships.
So, I've been training, and I have the first of two full marathons this weekend. It will not be my first but it will be the first time I have ever run a race by myself. Yes I know I won't be by myself, but I'll be running w/o Christa, or my FIL with me. I'm scared to death! :scared:
On that note, I guess I should sign up for a pacing group, if it's not too late, for disney.

I have a question. Is it too late to get a W.I.S.H. shirt? The one I wore for the '06 goofy got moldy because I waited too long to wash it. Sick. I know.

Glad to be back on the boards!

~bree~

No training to report - I really need to get back out there and get some training in but for now its been cross training by moving furniture and TV's around since we are getting a big TV for each other for Christmas. With that move came a new paint job since the last time I painted the room the TV was too big to move away from the wall so I tried my best to paint behind it and I didn't quite make it and didn't have the same paint to cover it.

Dana - So sorry to hear about your kitty. I know how hard it is just to loose a kitty let alone the attachment you must have had to her because of Matthew. My thoughts are with you. Just thinking about your kitty makes me tear up.

Dana – Thinking of you, sweetie. I am so sorry for your loss.

Krista - - YAY!!

Welcome all new teammates!!! :welcome:

Bree – How wonderful to see you here!!! Lucas is gorgeous!!! I have an extra WISH shirt I’d be glad to loan you, but you’d swim in it! Really looking forward to seeing you in January. Will you be at the Friday Pop meet?

Okay, all about me: I’m sorry I haven’t been around. I think of you all constantly (with a mixed measure of guilt and joy). So much has been going on – my DMIL was visiting for two weeks; the kitchen renovation (started 9/10/07) was finally completed yesterday; normal holiday prep madness is complicated by our plans to be away from before Christmas until right after; any improvement to my spine injury seems to have disappeared and the pain is almost as bad as it was in early October (Monday is the last PT session – 60 days and 22 visits’ worth); Howard is in the middle of final exams, projects & presentations; and as a Mom, I am a bit frazzled because our DD19’s college sophomore exam schedule is in chaos because her marching band may be heading to Chattanooga during finals if her football team wins this weekend and goes to the national championship. Other than that, I have a trial in March that will keep me so busy between now and then and another case that has a huge deadline marathon Monday and on which I will spend many of my waking minutes between now and then so that I can go to marathon weekend with a clear conscience and a clear plate. There’s some other stuff, too, that I won’t trouble you with, but leave it at too many things have prevented a LW since my 16+ the weekend before this past one. UGH!

Since I plan on this being my last full marathon effort, I am hoping to get enough training in in the next few weeks to have an official finish, a finisher’s certificate, and not keep my WISH teammates waiting in the sun at the finish until mid-afternoon. :lmao:

Okay, I think I am all caught up, work has been busy this past week, so it took me a while to read all the posts. Hopefully I didn't miss one! Thanks everyone for all the congrats about the 1/2 marathon entry. Even though I have been running since August (I haven't officially trained for anything since mid-August), it's been sporadic, so I have to jump back into training mode and quickly! I ran 3 miles Monday night, last night I biked on the stationary bike, tonight I am walking on the TM as xt, and tomorrow is 3 miles. I'm not training super hard-core--only 3 running 3 days a week and xt 2 days, I'm hoping this will keep any potential knee injuries at bay. I'm certainly not running this half to set any records, as long as I feel good throughout the race, I'll be happy!

Dana--   I hope you are having a better day today.

Craig--Sorry to hear that you are eating out of Tupperware containers whilst Martha is feasting on some of Boston's best restaurants! Did she at least bring you a doggy bag? ;) I am very jealous that you are coming to the end of your semester and get some time off. Why didn't I become a teacher???

Optimator--I didn't say my friend and I were that close. ;)

Bree--It's good to see you back! I know what you mean about running alone, I ran every training run and race by myself from May 2005-August 2007. The last 3 races we've done, Stephen and I ran together, which was great, by now I have to retrain myself to be a loner!! By the way, Luke is very cute!!

Jen GA--I've never run a race with a stroller, but all the 5K's and 10K's I've done, have asked stroller runners to start at the back of the pack. And yes, I have been passed by a stroller before. Many times, actually.

Mel--You've only seen snow twice in your life!!!! We have about 3 inches on the ground right now, but Ohio weather is crazy, it could be 70 degrees by tomorrow!

Great job to everyone who is getting out there and putting your miles in, I was really impressed with everyone, reading about all the 18 and 16 milers for the full people and 8 and 9 milers for the half. Good luck with training and stay healthy!!!!!

Sorry this is so short, but I really shouldn't be on here at all, I need to learn to DIS from home when I have time! :hourglass

Greetings Racing Team -

It's #32779 checking in! Yes, finally, I got my race packet last night.

Three miles this morning. I kicked up the pace for the last three minutes, running full out as fast as I could. I have to say it was rather exhilarating! :woohoo:

Had the Sears repairman come look at our TM yesterday. We have worn out the motor and it needs to be replaced. He ordered a new one yesterday and of course it will take two weeks to come in. So we should be in good shape just in time to start tapering! The old motor still works but is SO LOUD. Let's hope it doesn't bite the dust before the new one comes in.

Bill - Thanks for the kind words about my "five miles" quote. I really appreciate you guys who have been with me from the start. And, say, we ARE going to see one of those holiday pics, right???

Krista - Oh I'm so sorry for your friend - what kind of knee surgery is she having anyway? You know me and knee surgeries... - but YAY that you are doing it now! Whooo hoooo! :yay:

Dana - Oh Dana.... I'm so sorry...

Well Connected Panda - Whoa! Official recognition from The Penguin. How incredibly cool! :cool2:

Craig - I'm sorry last night was a paper cut for you.

Mel - I'm in southern New York and we didn't have any significant snow fall until January 10th this year. I can't guarantee any snow but I'll keep you posted. I'm a long long way from you though.

Bree - Hi! Welcome back!!!! We keep bugging Christa about you. Hee hee.

HI guys! Not too much to report here. I aquacised last night! It was nice. Today is 28 min no breaks. I may go to gym and TM it tonight. It's a little blustery again today! I'll losen my shoes and see if that helps w/ the numbness. If not, I may try to see if Fleet Feet will replace them w/ the WIDE.

Panda--Thanks for your help! ;) Glad you paw is feeling better!!!

Dana--So sorry to hear about your kitty!

Judy--Yippeee!!! Glad your packet finally came in!

That's all for now!
Stacie

Judy - I give you condolences on the TM... mine is dying also!!!!! :grouphug:
