Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Not much to report today. I set out for 12 and ended up with 3. I've been in sinus purgatory all week and having stomach issues due to a change in meds. Just wasn't feeling it and when I realized I'd left my cell phone at home and wouldn't be able to call DH if I had a problem, I just turned around and went home.

:wizard: :wizard: for the sick, injured and snowbound this week!

I made it for the scheduled 8 miles. It went well for me this weekend. It was My kind of weather today: Sunny and 29 degrees and my pace was lovely compared to last week. I finished in 14:06 pace and that is b/c I struggled a bit toward the very end. It was sunny and I was smiling during my time!

Dana, Wow! your are one flying gal!

Christa, PD for your next weekend. Seems like a lot on your plate.

Jen in GA, that was one great w/o and with Harry to push too. You and he amaze me.

Jen, good luck with TM and welcome back to reality.

Cecilia, I hope it was fun for you!

Stephanie, I am hoping your day was ok today. Good luck with your LR.

I WISH everyone speedy recovery for those in need and happy running if you are taking a jaunt on Sunday!

Morning all. Heading out for my LR in a few. But the running gods are mad at me I think. It's raining today--yesterday was beautiful, but since I decided to postpone my 16 today, I'm being punished! At least it's not a cold rain or snow.

Yesterday, the whole family participated in the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for the Arthritis foundation. DH and I pushed the kids and walked with my mom and dad. My dad has pretty severe osteoarthritis (one hip replaced already, and both knees need done as well) and my grandmother had severe rhuematoid arthritis her whole life. So we walk for them--of course we set no land speed records. We did finish under an hour, and a local TV celebrity sang "Happy Birthday" to DD

Okay, okay, really now, I'm heading out the door.

Good morning WISH Team. The beginning of the week is the only time I can keep up with this thread, it moves so fast.

I still don't have a packet and race number yet, am I the only one? They will have to just write the number on my forehead with a Sharpie I guess. Oh the shame of being the only one without a number, and no mail today.

I'm going tio test my foot with a few easy miles this morning. If it holds up I'll try for 6 tomorrow, I need to get the goofy training back on track. I was walking on tues and it was sore the whole time but about 6 miles I started getting sharp pain so I have been taking it easy since.

Have a great Sunday.

Going Goofy Panda:hippie:

Panda: Sorry to hear the paw is still sore and boo on not having your number yet. Hope you can walk today with no pain.

Today is my day off and tonight and into tomorrow we are due for at least 12 inches of snow. :woohoo: Yes, you all read that right, actually we are on the line between 9-14 and 12-24 inches so it is just anyone's guess. If anyone wants a great visual, get a picture of me dragging 2 bales of hay to the cows in crotch deep snow because my DH plows and won't be home to do chores. It has happened more than once!!! :scared1: Oh, and I have to make happy 3 trips in one feeding.

On the up side, my skis are out and ready to go for tomorrow when I get out of work. MIL is making the call on ski or snowshoe and I am ready for either. Ice skating today in the 20 degree temps!!!! :santa:

Hope everyone has a GREAT day!!!!!!!!!

Hi All,
Reading some of these posts makes me so happy I leave in the South. Lived in Syracuse many many years so I know cold and snow. Just have no need for it anymore :)

Easy week this week. 10K race yesterday building up to a 20 miler this weekend.

And Dave, I still don't have my packet either.

Good luck everyone!

Duane

Hey I hear ya Duane, if I was getting ready to get 12 inches of snow I would be freaking. That Lisa is a tough gal. I wouldn't survive dragging bales of hay out to frigid cows. I would have to bring them in the house and we could all have beer and chips and watch the animal planet.

I did manage 2 miles easy today, foot is still a bit sore but better so 6 on the menu for tomorrow.

Cool movie Robert, now if we could get Judy to make us a cross training video.popcorn::

Walking Again Panda:hippie:

Good morning WISHers! Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.

12 miles scheduled, 13.1 completed. Thought I had 18 to do. Glad I checked my training schedule. Completed in 2:45:40 for a 12:18 pace. Felt good throughout except for the sore feet towards the end. I just don't know how to alleviate the problem. I guess we'll adapt and overcome. :thumbsup2

Mel - Sorry your feeling poorly.

Lily - Congrats on the 8 miler. 29 degrees? I'd definitely be doing some high-speed whining. :rotfl:

Stephanie - Hope you had a good run.

WWDave - Take care of that foot. I still don't have my race packet either.

Lisa - Have fun in the snow.

Duane - I'm glad I live in the south too. :thumbsup2 Of course I tell everyone I live in the "LA" portion of FLA, Lower Alabama. :lmao:

:)

Well, I finished the 16 miles. 9:24 pace, total time 2:30 on the nose! Really happy about that--want to keep my LRs about 20-30sec/mile slower than race day. Right on track for me! Luckily, the rain held off until just a little bit ago--but that also made it REALLY humid for my run (cut the air with a knife humid) and add that to the lovely headwind made for not the best conditions. And what's up with 70 degrees in December!

Kristi--Hope they win the Hannah Montana tickets. They were the hottest things in town last week!

Lisa--Wow on the snow and the chores. Happy to be another southerner

WWDave--Hmmm, still no packet--maybe Disney heard that You just ain't right!;)

Christa-meant to post this earlier--but I can't wait to see what smokin' time you put up next weekend!

Dana--You are flying girl! Don't know if I'll be able to keep up with you in Jan!

Okay, naptime for me. We've had the busiest weekend yet of the year, and I'm beat!

Kristi good luck to them on getting Hannah Montana tickets! I'll go vote. We ended up getting tickets just a few days before the concert and I felt like we had won the lottery!!!

Happy Sunday guys! I’m with a lot of the rest of you—if I don’t get in here on the weekend, I can NEVER keep up with the thread on a daily basis. I guess that’s a good sign that our WISH team is growing daily!

WWDave—did you tick off the Goofy gods? That's the only reason I can possibly dream up that you wouldn't have gotten your packet. DId Erica get hers yet? I like your idea of body marking your race number on your forehead. Speaking of Sharpies—I wonder if we’re going to have the really cool Sharpie signs along the race course this year again. Did I just miss those last year or were they really not there?? :confused3

Vic—so if you get to WDW in January, and can’t remember how long the marathon is, are you going to run about 32 miles or so? :) Good job on the 13.1!

Kristi—I texted my vote. Hope they end up winning. What the heck is with this Hannah Montana craze anyway? Krista keeps telling me that the craze over the New Kids on the Block was worse. I'll take her word for it, because strangely enough, I wasn't a big NKOTB fan. Shocking, I know.

Stephanie—great job on the 16! I have to admit that you are way faster than I am at this point, so unfortunately, I won’t be able to keep up with you guys in January in that 4:00 pace group. That’s ok, I’ll be cheering for all you speedies as I come by about a half hour later.

I got my scheduled 16 miler in this morning. In the rain. And cold wind. And amazingly enough, I actually enjoyed the run. Finished in 2:43 for a 10:10 overall pace. I was pretty happy with that, as that’s been the pace I’ve been trying to keep while I’m rehabbing my knee. I know we were all talking a couple of weeks ago about what to wear in the rain. I was thinking about that today while running. I was wearing shorts, cool max LS shirt, hat and a lightweight, waterproof running vest which blocks the wind. It was perfect for the temps (around 45 deg). I agree with the rest of you guys that anything moisture wicking will work, and just layer according to the temperature. The trick is keeping those feet dry. :)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I will admit that I slacked the later half of last week and didn’t get a chance to finish reading the rest of last week’s thread. I may try to do that now. Good luck training and stay safe!

Oh, by the way, Krista told me to tell everyone HI! She’s been training, but not nearly as much as if she were running in January. She keeps wishing she would have signed up for the half. Maybe she can be a rebel and jump the corrals, beat up an unsuspecting runner, and take their bib. (kidding, although if the runner was a Bunguls fan, I wouldn’t put it past her. :) )

Talk to you guys later!

Steve

Hopefully they'll have signs or something to tell where the finish is. If not, I'll just follow the herd and stop when they stop. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

As the big weekend approaches, I thought I'd better start checking in here regularly. :goodvibes

I finished my 9 mile/18 mile weekend for the Goofy--I'm about a week behind the MFM schedule--on a W/R schedule. It was raining all this weekend, but I managed to complete it all on the treadmill. (I admire you, Steve, for toughing it out in your weather--I'm too much of a fair-weather slogger. :rotfl:)

I don't mind TMs, really, except I have this tendency to get blisters & it happens easier on the TM than on pavement (although I'm generally susceptible to blisters on my feet. I've tried everything I can think of: different shoes/socks, moleskin, Vaseline, praying to Achilles.... Any suggestions?

Anyway, I'm frightfully slow right now, but I completed the mileage and plan on staying ahead of the sweepers. ; life (relocation, job search, stress fracture) has interfered with training a bit, so I'm not where I thought I'd be, pace-wise. But I'm discovering the joys of walking, so that's a bonus. Plus, And DH (who's also doing the Goofy, but at a much faster pace) and I are already talking about doing next year!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the help & votes, guys! I edited my post though since it is apparently against DIS rules to ask for help. :sad2:

I did nothing training-wise this weekend. We spent yesterday at Santa's Village in the White Mountains. :scared1: Umm, who's bright idea was that?? So, note to anyone else out there who thinks that might be "fun" to do at Christmas - DON'T DO IT! :cold: Today was doing some housework & errands. I am so pooped right now, I am headed to bed. It's going to be a crazy day at work tomorrow with school closings too.

WWDave - No packet here either. I run to the mailbox every afternoon, only to straggle back with junk mail in hand looking like I just lost my best friend. Can I borrow your Sharpie?

Vic - My family now just expects that I'll spend the next 2 days after any run with my feet on ice. I drove back from today's race with the van on cruise and my foot on a frozen water bottle.

Mel - Hope you're feeling better SOON!

I posted my race report from this morning on the Race Report thread, but I'll give the short & sweet here. PR'd for the 5 miles - 56:52 for an 11:18 average. I don't run that fast! I might actually be motivated to start running midweek again, although this only running on the weekends seems to be working pretty well (since Nov 10 I've only run 2x other than LRs - gotta get going or Jan 12th may not be much fun.)

Jackie

Thank your for getting to it b4 making me be the bad one.

Jackie, great event there. Yup, get going or you won't be smiling January time.

dkp, I'd say you were a week ahead of the MfM plan or I'm in trouble. My calendar shows 9/18 for next weekend for me. Dreading this one.
:scared1: I do not want to TM it. Where are the blisters? Can you sport tape them? Yay! for being ahead of the sweepers timewise.

Steve, good job on getting out there! Send Hi's back to Krista!

Stephanie, I do WISH your run wasn't too bad today.

No race packet for me either. We had a massive busy day here so no w/o. Tomorrow is a scheduled gym day for me.

Hey all - this weekend was 7/14 so that was fine, though I did whine massively about going out on Sunday, Tim has promised that if I ever say I'm doing Goofy again to quote me verbatim from my little speech - of course as soon as I actually started running instead of lying on the sofa moaning about it was fine and the 14 was worringly easy!

Anyway, busy as ever so that's it from me today. Helen

Hey guys! I know a bunch of people ran the Victory Junction 1/2 this past Sunday.
