Wk of Aug 6--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

This is really a drive-by post because, well, quite frankly, I am not in the mood.

I found out late last night from a friend that a girl we knew years ago (who is in the horse business) is today giving testimony FOR THE DEFENSE in the cruelty trial. I'm sick to my stomach at the thought of having to give Mist back to her legal owner.

Oh and today is a rest day anyway.

OK, I'll come back later when I am in a better mood.

:guilty:

Krista - I hate the fact that school starts so early here, and to top it off they don't get out until the last day or two of May. I swear they are trying to get rid of summer break completly.

Monte - His first day went really well. He hasn't had any trouble at all going to school. He could care less if I am there or not. I thought that since I was a SAHM since he was born that he would be... I don't know... a little sad that he had to leave me all day... but not him. He's as happy as can be!!

Judy - I am so sorry for what you are going through. I must have missed the details of your horses story, but I can only imagine that it must have been really bad. I am sending tons of prayers and pixiedust: pixiedust: your way that everything works out and that the previous owner doesn't get a chance to hurt her again.

Dana

Judy I'm so sorry. You've done so much to get her into better shape. I can't imagine. I know tha tafter we got our dog to where he was not a St. Bernard with the shape of a grehound and where he was not afraid of every sound, I woudl have died itf his original owner tried to take him back. So, this person has teh $$ to go tocourt, but not to care for Misty? (Yes, I know it takes more than $$ to truely care for a horse.)

Thanks Dana and Carrie -

I don't want to hijack our Training thread..........It is a criminal case. This woman had 70 horses, 40 of which were seized and ended up at the Sanctuary. Some of them died because they were just too starved to survive. Mist was 400 pounds underweight. Considering she now weighs 1100 pounds, thats close to almost half her body. :guilty: The first judge dismissed the case because there wasn't enough evidence of abuse. Then the Sanctuary appealed. It's taken over a year to gather evidence and witnesses. Who knows how much longer this will go on for. But if the judge rules in her favor, I will have to send Mist back. I don't know how I will do that.

Thanks for listening to me. You guys are the best.

Just back from a 2.71 mile walk, it took 31 mins. :cool1: I also took the chair lift up and down again, just to take in the gorgeous view and to reflect. Love that view! :cloud9:

Hey - check this out - their stuff is black and lime green!

http://www.amphipod.com/overview/overview.html

This is the kind of fuelbelt that I use. I like the fact that I can change the amount of bottles and/or pouches that I carry on the long runs. The colors never even clicked with me :rotfl:

I had a discount card last year for these...I'll poke around and see if it is still valid or if there is a current one available.

CARRIE!!!! The shirts are fabulous!!!

Mine came today. Lots of thanks to your and your lovely assistant for pulling it all together! I love the whole team effort...the shirts are so cool :cool1:

Judy...so sorry to hear about Mist :grouphug: BTW, you asked if we would be in WDW the same time next month. Looks like you're leaving as we're coming in...we arrive on the 15th.

Krista...are y'all wearing your WISH shirts for RFTT?

Thanks to everyone who asked about my foot. It's MUCH better. I've had two pain-free days this week and haven't used any tape at all.

Craig...your suggestion about two different shoes was spot-on. My shoe guy (at Urban Sole :smooth: ) suggested the same thing a couple months ago. I now alternate between ASICS during the week and Mizuno on the weekends.

I have done two days of intervals this week on the TM. I'm holding steady at W3/R7, which has gotten easier over the past couple weeks. Pace is always around 15 mpm on the TM, but a minute faster outside. I'm excited to finally feel like my foot's healing and I'm back in training mode

Krista -- hope your leg continues to do better

Craig -- hope training goes better. I am constantly reminded that I need to take it easier on some of my runs.

Judy -- pixiedust: about the hearing. Since it looks so different maybe you could claim that it isn't the same one...

Mel -- Glad the foot is better and you can start training again.

I decided to postpone the training run today. A couple of weeks ago I almost cramped up during the long run and that leg hasn't felt right. So I will try to take it easy for a little bit and see if I can get the muscle cooperating again.

Lynnda is still taking it slow but is slowly getting back to training. Which is good since we leave in less than a month.

Bill

Hi all...
I was referred to this thread for support! I have set a goal of being able to do a Disney Marathon. That being said, I have never done anything like it before, sadly I am also overweight and under-exercised, AND dont really know where to start. Paul suggested "Marathoning for Mortals" and I ordered it right off, should be here in just a few days, but any other suggestions on getting started would be greatly appreciated too!! Just so you dont think I'm a total couch potato, I HAVE been in a walking club for almost 2 years, but the downside is we only walk once a week, and the walks are 1-4 miles (I know, not much...but I gotta start somewhere!) so please, support me!!

Judy - pixiedust: that the court will decide in your favor and against the owner.

wfloyd - take the training slow so you don't get injured.

Dana - your son is cute. Glad he likes school.

Mel - hope your feet continue to feel better and your training goes well.

Tonight I rode 13.5 miles is 60 min. It was supposed to be a rest day but Mon was only a 25 min walk after the T-storms and last night I was lazy after driving home from Rochester. I sat in a boring tax ehtics seminar today and felt restless.

Happy training everyone.

Welcome Pungodingy!! Are you currently working out? What? HOw Far? How often? I believe MArathoning for Mortals says to start by "moving" for at least 30 minutes 3 x's a week. That's a good start if you're not there already.

MEL!!!! SO glad the foot's getting better. You've been kind of scarce, so I was worried. (Know you're supoer busy though) It's so funny, because "My Lovely Assistant" was just asking about you today. (I was whining about the heat. Think he was trying to tell me it could be worse. :p)

Kathy - I keep forgetting to tell you how good it is to see you posting (and workign out!) regularly!!!!!

Bill - Good for you for taking things easy!

I did my 40 min tonight. When "My lovely Assistant" :rotfl: left this am, he said it was to be 80 today. OK, with teh drop in humidity, I can do that. Radio said82. That's about my max, but I need to get the steps in. SO, when it was 84, that was not good. NOt a happy run, again, but I put the steps in.

OK - Weird Plug. Listenign to DIS radio tonight. Oh my! Went from JJ Parade to Splash Mountain (our fave ride). I just want to cry as I sit here remembering. Thanks to Lily for mentioning it today! I must say it's gona' be hard not to listen at work! Everybody's got a laughing place! :teeth:

PS - Illuminations music is on now!!! Next tiem I see Illuminations will be SUnday night after teh marathon with teh WISHEers!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Drop in poster here:

Finally cancelled my Candy Cane Inn reservations tonight. Won't be going to Disneyland. Couldn't justify the expense(need a new washer right now).

Did make reservations today for 2007 marathon at POFQ. Will try to change tomorrow for POR to get a trundle bed.

WAy too hot here to work out on treadmill w/o air conditioning.
So i moved my treadmill to the basement for free air conditioning. It would have been a lot easier if i had read the manual and taken it apart first.

I got it well and truly stuck on the last step before turning a corner into basement. Everything i attempted got it worse stuck. Had to saw off one of my steps and pry apart the treadmill. DH soldered treadmill back together. Still have to replace step.

Missed out on the shirts. I'll have to wear my old one.

Since the half is full it is the Full or nothing! Can't backdown now.

Oh, Felicia!!! :lmao: I am sooooo sorry you had all of that trouble!! Good thing your DH is handy!! It just sounded so like something that would have happened to me! Don't give up on the WISH shirts. There may be another order before WDW.
Tiff Whoa!! :scared1: too late to tell you to be careful!! Hey, you have a half marathon in 5 weeks!!!! Knees and legs are important!!! On top of the other advice for your blister...we found that BandAid makes a great bandaid specifically for blisters. It has medicine in the pad that dries the fluid out (ok, medical people..I may not be explaining it right..) It worked great for DH's huge one after the Minnie and then I just used one a couple of weeks ago. You are earning those badges of honor! I just wish not all at once!! :rotfl:
Judy You would think that the abuse pictures would speak for the horses!! :furious: Prayers and pixiedust: for you and Mist!!
Monte great job on your walks!! I'm really envious of your mountain view!
Kathy Great job for you, too!! How's your foot now? Someday please explain how you provide a moving aid station for Lynne on her 117 mile bike trips. Just mind boggling what that daughter of yours does!!
Dave :thumbsup2 You should be really proud of yourself! You didn't quit when the pain appeared; you have really stuck with your program and have even gotten your daughters involved! How are your plans going for presenting the WDW trip to your DW?

Way back in March I told ya'll about the number 16 and my family. Our numbers for DL are 10716 and 10717. AND, I just noticed this....I'm #16 on Judy's list for the WDW weekend!!! I don't make this stuff up :dance3: !!

Morning Everyone,

Just a quick post - I really have to catch up on posts anyway :goodvibes I did run last night.....Did 4 miles on the threadmill running a consistent 5.0 pace (that's a 12 min/mil).

I'm hoping to get out there with my running group this weekend but not sure with the Macy's job.

Have a great day everyone!

Jodi

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

I had a rest day yesterday. I needed it because I had an incredibly frustrating day at work, and then it was frustrating at home after work. I've been trying to get the princesses swingset put up that we moved from VT to Rochester. Seemed like I couldn't do anything yesterday. Gotta just put it behind me. The princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, have our x-country race tonight. I'm really looking forward to it. The princesses are bumping up to 1/4 mile, and I'm planning on wearing my new WISH racing team shirt!!! That should improve my mood.

Judy- hope things go your way with the court system. I can't believe there is any discussion about Misty (or any of the horses) going back to their original owners.

Mel/Chimera- glad your foot is improving. Hang in there, sounds like you are making progress.

Bill- Glad to hear from you again!

Pungodingy- :welcome: This is a great group, and we're glad you found us. Congratulations on setting your goal and getting started. This group will help support you and keep you going. You can do this!!!

Kathy- Good job on your bike ride. The tax ethics seminar sounds very... dry.

Carrie- Good for you getting out there and getting your steps in when it's over your critical temperature.

Felicia- Sorry you had to cancel your Disneyland 1/2 marathon trip. I guess we'll see you at the full though!!! We had talked about a second shirt order later on in the year if there was enough interest. Carrie said she would be too busy to send them out, but maybe I could take over that end of it. I can't guarantee to be as efficient as Carrie though.

Thanks Anne, that's really nice of you to say, and I need a little boost after yesterday. I had a nice little parenting moment the other day. DD8 princess: is struggling to learn how to ride her bike without training wheels, and she was getting really, really frustrated. I was telling her that sometimes you have to work really hard to get what you want, and I was using the example of my running. How I really want to be a runner, and I've had to work really hard to exercise, ice, get my shins healed up, etc, but after all the hard work it will pay off.

Thanks for asking about the plans for presenting the trip to DW. I must admit I haven't done anything about that yet. I really liked the suggestion that Cam and others had about making a present with maps and stuff to surprise her, but I haven't even started to do that yet. I need to work on that - it might be a fun thing to get my mind off of work.

Good morning [/B]Jodi :wave2: Good job on your treadmill run. I hope you can make it out with your group run over the weekend. Don't let that Macy's job get in the way of your training.

OK, off to do my leg exercises.

Good morning everyone.

Anne - I'm not the moving aid station for her bikes. She uses convenience stores to replentish her fluids. I ride behind her on her long runs and carry the fluids. Sunday she ran out and I stopped at a house where the people were outside and they kindly refilled the bottle with water. She has a 20 mile run scheduled for Sunday. I will ride along with her to carry the fluids and to get some exercise for myself also.

Need to get ready for work. Will check in later after finishing todays scheduled workout.

Good morning everyone! I did 4 miles last night in 44:25, I started out on the road, but after 1.47 miles, I bailed and finished the last 2.53 miles on the treadmill. The run really stunk, it was hot and humid outside and my calf was hurting, BUT the run was also very good for 2 reasons: 1. I did not want to run last night, I was fighting myself before I even went upstairs to get my running clothes, and many times during the run I almost quit. But I didn't, I get my steps in and felt 1000% better when I was finished. 2. My calf was extremely tight during the run and it wasn't pleasant, but afterwards I really stretched my calf out, took 2 Advil for any potential swelling and iced for 15 minutes and my calf felt fabulous--no pain last night and no pain today, even though I'm wearing heels. I'm trying to decide what to do tonight, we're going to PA for Stephen's grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary party tomorrow night. Normally I would run on Saturday, but I'm not sure about running at their house, they live in Pittsburgh and it's EXTREMELY hilly, which I'm not used to. So, I don't know if I want to run tonight and attempt to run the hills on Saturday or bump my long run to Sunday when we get home, or if I want to run tomorrow morning and then run Sunday. Decisions, decisions!! :sunny:

Judy-- :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for Mist. I love animals and it really burns me up when people abuse them. Hopefully the judge will see what really happened and throw the book at your "friend".

Mel--I didn't buy a Wish shirt this time around and my shirt from the marathon is cotton. You should be able to find me regardless, lime green has been my favorite color since I was a teeny tiny kid and I have lots of lime green running clothes. :teeth: Glad that your foot is feeling better and you're getting some relief.

Kathy--You are a terrific and wonderful mom. I'm sure Lynne and Erin know how blessed they are.

Felicia--Are you Wonder Woman? How in the world did you get your treadmill downstairs by yourself??? I think that definitely counts as cross training!!

Pungodingy-- :welcome: Good luck getting starting on your training!

Carrie--Great job getting your steps in. I'm sure your "Lovely Assistant" is very proud of you. ;)

Dave--Sorry you had a rough day at work. Hopefully today is better. I think it's wonderful that you are getting your girls interested in running/sports and healthy living at such a young age. Obesity and laziness is such an epidemic these days, I wish more parents would teach their kids how to live a healthy lifestyle, and I wish the parents would learn to live it themselves!

Sunny--I'm thinking about you.

I better get started on my day, I'll be back later!
