Wk of Aug 5--WISH Walking/Running Club

Morning folks. Well....yesterday I didn't do anything...no running, no yoga. I opted not to run since my rear was still hurting so I thought I should rest it and stretch it. Still hurting, but not so bad today. I believe it is my piriformis. Every once in awhile it flares up and hurts, then goes away. I have a massage scheduled for next weekend, but I may try to move it up to this weekend instead. And then, well....I didn't go to yoga since I had an offer for a date with a cute boy.

One of my blogging buddies is embarking on a project she calls Nutritionathon. I know I can improve here and that will really help me to drop a few pounds (because for as crazy active as I am, my weight is not where it should be or where I would like it to be). So I've decided to join her on Nutritionathon and here are my plans:
  • Bring my lunch to work at least one day per week. This does not include purchasing a scone and coffee for breakfast just so I can have my PB&J at lunch instead.
  • Consume at least four or five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. I promise not to count jam in my fruit column.
  • At least one serving of dairy per day.
  • No diet pop (except at the movie theatre).
  • Consume at least 2L of water per day (not including consumption during exercise).
  • Limit portion sizes and plan for 4 mini-meals per day.
  • Eat my planned snacks prior to becoming hungry.
  • Limit Blizzard intake to once every three to four weeks. A Blizzard is not an acceptable choice for a dinner meal...regardless of the fact that I try to convince myself that the banana cream pie Blizzard hits almost all of your food groups in one cup.

I've tried to make goals that aren't too far away from what I'm doing now so that they are attainable and I don't get discouraged and give up. Wish me luck guys.

Leana- More then a few of your goals there are ones I have been working on this summer. At first there were things that were really hard like bringing my lunch to work, it's more time I have to spend on it in the morning. But now it's really part of my routine. I've cut out soda completely now and I don't even miss it, I've had it maybe five times in the past few months and when I have it gives me a sugar rush. I'm sure you'll do great with your goals. Now if only I had been better about blogging my running.

No training to report yet as I'm going to go for my run at lunch. I do have a question for all of you. I normally run in the morning or at night but there are a few times when I will sneak my run in during lunch. How would you all handle lunch or snacking with a mid day run?

Hello, fellow WISHers!

The heat continues here today, so I'm planning on doing my XT at the Y this evening while DS is at soccer. I am SO ready for a break in the heat! It is really getting me down and I hate that it's really too hot for the kids to even be outside.

My dog has joined the legions of WISH dogs having a tough time right now. She got into a batch of seed ticks! I cannot even tell you how many were on here; they were dropping off her by the dozens at the vet yesterday. They now seem to be under control and I've treated the entire house. What a lovely way to spend the day!

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

ps - my friend's path report came back, as expected, with the best of news. no cancer and they got it all! yippee! thanks for all the pd!

Obviously, I have no training to report.

so I could only imagine their faces when I say "Hey, we're having dinner w/a bunch of folks I met on the internet!"

Stephanie - Try explaining to someone "Yes, I'm going to WDW by myself and sleeping with a girl I know from on-line that I haven't met yet." Which is exactly what I did for the Minnie!

Bill - Sorry about the cold. You need some TLC.

OMG It's MATT! :yay: Hi Matt! Boy we sure did miss you!!!

WWDave - What?!! And she was wearing her WISH hat? That wasn't enough to get her out of the ticket???? SO unfair! :sad2:

Kim - Oh! Keep us posted! I wonder if we'll get it down here on tv though. Well, I'll watch it on the internet then! :thumbsup2 Now you will see how geographically challenged I am, but Charlie and I are going to Brockville, Canada next week. Is that anywhere near you? :confused3

Cam - Ohhhh... I have :cake: envy. :teeth:

Beth
- YAY on the TM purchase! :thumbsup2

Heather
- Thinking of Kevin today... :wizard:

Lily - Thinking of your mom today... :wizard: Did you find a book?

Leana - I think that is a perfectly acceptable excuse of missing yoga.

I am finally catching up on my WISH Team buddies.

Mel-- your pace is getting better and better. Wow, I'm sorry you have digestion troubles. I hope the tests and drugs and knowledge of what foods works turn that around.

Heather-- great to see you.

MSDave-- your pace just keeps improving. I think you have Boston in your future!

Colleen
-- same to you! I can't get over how your pace is improving. You must be working very hard and it's paying off! Sorry to hear Disney was blistering hot! But it sounds like you all had fun anyway.

Kristi-- My office mate went to the Police and love it. Sorry you missed half, at least it wasn't half of a GG concert!

Sandy-- congrats on your first 5K!

Jen-- the Rump Roast race pic was great! I can't believe they really give rump roasts for prizes! I'm so sorry about your punk incident. What is wrong with people anyway? Congrats on signing up for the full:yay:

Tricia-- Congrats on the improved race time. Two minutes is very siginficant.

Can & Howard-- the pic of you two is beautiful. YOu both look GREAT! And Happy Birthday Cam (better late than never!)

Mollie-- Set your Garmin to view splits (you can make a split anything you want). That will reduce the pace jumping. Good job!

Carrie-- congrats on the new job... oh I am soooo behind! It's not even new anymore! Congrats on the 10K and Scott's contact success that must have been scary. You'll be great for CDC!

Jackie-- I agree with the others, you are totally ready for your marathon.

Krista-- Happy super-belated Birthday!

Martha-- wow, you've been having so much fun manning the home front!

Andrew-- Your training sounds strong. Your marathon will be a great success.

Bill-- glad the weather finally cooperated for you to run! Happy Birthday. Sounds like you're one of those compulsive obsessive types:rolleyes1 I can't put a puzzle down until I solve it/finish it either!

Vic-- how are the inserts working? I hope they give you the relief you need.

Anne-- I'm so sorry you have the heal spur. My mom had one and it hurt terribly. But she got one cort shot and that was it; never had pain again. I hope the same works for you. And don't worry about DNS- I am not the queen of DNS:rotfl:

Dana-- 8:33 pace while pushing a stroller? Wow! I'm impressed!!! And WOW to the pics-- you are beautiful!

Monte-- I didn't know about Aaron. What a great reason to run with TnT.

Craig-- that is some pretty impressive track running... both you and the 90yo!

Hi Speedy

Leana-- that boot camp is some pretty intense xt! Way to go:thumbsup2

Stephanie-- I love your Snow White pooch! Sorry about the Stonker. "Stonkers Happen"! Hope your legs feel better soon.:wizard:

Terri-- You must be exhausted after your relaxing vaca!

Kathy-- thanks for posting Lynne's LP pics. She is absolutely amazing!

Lily-- Once again you come through as the Official WISH Apprarel Model! Great look socks (and feet)!

HMHunters
-- A Garmin can be a trap to "pace slavery" but it's also the coolest gadget since sliced bread! I think the best thing to do is to use them sometimes, and sometimes force yourself out the door without it and with no peek at your watch and just go.

Steve-- Happy Birthday!

Judy-- :wizard: here's to waiting patiently to getting back in the groove. Corporate env? yuck. I wear nothing but Sketchers and sneakers to work:rotfl2:

Lilly:hug: I'm glad you mom is alright.

MSDave-- I'm sorry you had stress over WDW '08 but it sounds like your excited for MCM and that's great. I bet you'll PR.

Mel-- I love the joke about the C & N thunderstorm:lmao:

Kathy-Lynne
-- those hats look AWSOME! If there's a second order, I'll try again. I was MIA when the orders were being firmed up.

Matt--- It's so GREAT to see you again and know you are safe. Welcome back:yay: :cheer2:

I think I am reasonably caught up now. I know I still missed lots-- sorry.

I'm getting the feeling it won't be long until a bunch of you are coming up to visit me and run that little race they call BOSTON! Man! you guys are getting fast!

Thanks for your vote of confidence for the Global Hero. I plan to run the Twin Cities either way. Y'all should check it out-- its dubbed the most beautiful urban marathon in the US with incredible neighborhood fan support.

Megan - Wow, congrats on giving up soda and improving your nutrition. I know this is the wall I need to get past and must make a committment to it. I hope things are going OK for you and your pup. I saw you are out for 2008 now? Are you still coming to ToT?

I get runs in over lunch and I find those are the easiest to handle nutrition-wise. I have a PB&J for breakfast, then a snack around 10:30 or so (yoghurt and some fruit or a Clif bar). I run around noon, then have my lunch (generally a sandwich) when I get back, so I wind up eating around 1:30 or 2 pm.

Renee - Loads of PD for your pup, and I'm so glad to hear that your friend's results came back ok. What a relief!
Heather - PD for your hubby!!
Dana - I was tweaking my schedule for weeks on end. I think I finally got it figured out though;) . Wow, your son is doing so well on his running! It must be great to have that special one on one time together.
Beth - Awesome deal on the TM!
Cam - Yay for your cake! I hope you had a fabulous BDay!!
Maggie - Music and a microphone for yoga? That's not right... Ihope your next walk is better!
Kim - You must be getting so excited for Scotia! I know I'm counting the days to San Francisco..!!
Moon - Excellent pace on the TM! Sounds like you are doing great. Thanks for the comment by the way;) . If you ever decide to get a skirt from SkirtSports.com I have a discount code set up that is valid until the end of the year. Just enter WISH at check out for 15% off.
Bill and Vic - Hope you guys feel better soon.

BTW, speaking of skirts, the other day I decided to figure out how many I own... 18 folks, plus #19 is in the mail. Check it out...I think I need to be put on skirt purchasing hiatus...

Hey guys ((((and girls!)))) I haven't run yet, but I am getting closer! I finished 5 loads of laundry already, now I need to get lunch for the kids.
I am running on my treadmill today, then going to the gym for class.

Nancy: I did see the post by Hockeychic that my marathon will be on the internet and TV.....cool huh? I will wear my new WISH shirt so maybe someone will see me! Sorry I missed stretch last night.....I actually fell asleep on the couch after Still Standing! (((in my workout clothes, of course!))) Good job on the 6 miles!!!!   Was it easier or harder breaking it up?

Lily: Sending PD princess: for Mom....hope all goes well!

Leana: Your plan sounds great! I also like the idea that a Blizzard could hit almost all the food groups!:rolleyes1

Beth

Leana, you got some skirts! :rotfl:

So my nose is completely stopped up, but I still managed 5.25 miles this morning with an average pace of 10:26.

Nike+ is a piece of crap, this morning it wouldn't even let me set up my run for a custom time. I had to fool with it for awhile. I wish DH would get me a Garmin for my upcoming birthday! :rolleyes1

Anyway, once the kids go back to school I'm gonna transfer all my runs from the Nike+ site and make a spreadsheet and just write everything down myself. It is killing me Nike+ deleted my last run before I could upload.

DH has been really slack running and went out last night for 3 miles. I think it about killed him and he had a monster headache. I hope he gets his act back together for the RFTT cause I don't want him having a migraine the rest of the trip.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I think I might go to my Mom's tomorrow.

Hubby and I should be able to make the WISH meet Friday evening IN JANUARY! My kids probably won't be there, but at 22 and 23 they can fend for themselves.

I got up today with all good intentions of doing my 2-mile "sprint" on an indoor track. First I took a spinning class and that was fine. When I began walking, it started to bother a blister that had not fully healed, so I ditched it. I am going to WDW this weekend......I CANNOT HAVE BLEEDING BLISTERS!

As Jackie mentioned, it was 103 here yesterday and much the same is expected today. It usually gets the hottest around 4 or 5 pm here. Can't wait for the cooler weather. Orlando will seem perfectly frigid compared to this.

Hey guys- just sneaking a quick peak while at work...:rolleyes1

Did 3 miles on the TM at the gym this morning. I was happy I got it done early, so I didn't have to stress about when I was going. Tried out new shoes, but can't decide if they annoy me or if the fact that today made 18 miles for this week annoyed my body! I feel fine now and no blisters so we will see.

Leanna- you are such a bad influence with the skirts. First I have to go buy a zebra one because you said they were on special, then I realize that it's not that excessive for me to have about 7 compared to your 19-- heck I may need more!

Shan- so sorry about your Nike+. On the positive side (for me at least), I'm never going to mess with the settings on mine in fear that it would eat a workout! So I have learned from how poorly it treated you. Isn't it funny how technology either makes you giddy with joy or homicidal? There's really no in-between for me. My old iPod died a painful death- I went from taking it everywhere with me so I could admire it at will to wanting a sledgehammer...

Honiebee- you totally have me beat! I freaked everyone out when I said I was driving to Minnie with some WISHers I hadn't met IRL from our hotel- "internet strangers!?" Sharing a room would have done my family in (although it sounds totally reasonable to me now!)

Judy Brockville Ontario is about 4 hours to the east of me. You are just south of Ottawa there.

Sunny: WoW that was some post...

Leana...nice collection of skirts....no I am actually scared of the 1/2 I am not sure if I can do it but I will give it what I got!!!

Kim

Leana-Giving up soda was so hard at first because my boyfriend loves it and I was buying water for my house and his. Now he'll notice he's low on water before I even do, I don't miss the soda most days. I feel better now that I've worked on my nutrition, I'm sure you'll get to the point where it's just habit. The pup is improving, although we're still not trying to be too hopeful, I have to go home most days at lunch to give him his medicines but if that keeps him going then I'll do it. How's your pup? I'm definitely in for ToT, maybe alone but I've determined that doesn't matter at this point. Also the number of days is up in the air but I'll be there at least Thursday night to Sunday. 2008 is out because I after two trips in the fall I either hope to be leaving my new job because it wasn't what I thought or I'll have only a handful of vacation days I'll need for interviews!

I did exactly what you suggested and it really is the easiest to deal with food wise. (Although heat wise it wasn't!) I usually don't eat lunch that late but it worked well with the running. I might make that a regular thing once the weather here is cool enough to run mid day.

Well I did my lunch time run 2.5 miles, truthfully I'm not sure why the .5. But I really didn't think I was going that fast but I felt good. I ran half up hill and it felt good to have that feeling that my muscles were really working. I can't wait for my long run this weekend, after a lack luster week last week I feel like I'm back in the groove. And I recorded a new best for the mile today which I'd share with you if my battery hadn't died at the end of the run.

You know looking at all those skirts Leana has makes me think it's time I ordered a skirt already.

I am so jealous of Leana's skirt collection! I have one I love, then I have it in 2 colors in the next smaller size (I'm an optimist). I also just bought an Izod one and I have a new balance. On both of those, the bike shorts are not tight enough in the legs to stay down, so I end up wearing them for XT but not for walking/running/wogging.

Leana - I particularly like the black one that looks kind of full, right in front. DO you remember the brand of that one? :)

Cam, that is the Roller Girl from SkirtSports, but it is short... I'm not sure if the athletic skort from RunningSkirts.com would interest you or not. I haven't tried that style, but I find their skirt cut is a bit fuller than Skirt Sports.
http://www.runningskirts.com/buy-skirts.html

Cool! That is good to know :thumbsup2 Short is NOT in the cards for this body, even if I am in better shape than I've been in 30+ years! :lmao: Thanks, Leana!!!

Leana - I'd count the Blizzard as my dairy serving. No need to give it up! I love your goals - I've been working on adding fruits and veggies; they're definitely my weak point.

Judy - How many days till training resumes?

Tried to get the AAA discount on my Jan reservation today, but they were having computer problems so the very helpful CM suggested I call back tomorrow. I did go ahead and add a night in the hopes that we can arrive Thursday instead of Friday, but I won't know for sure until I can talk to DD's teachers when school starts.

Had another awesome TM run this AM. Did 5 miles at an 11:43 avg (started at 13:05 and worked my way down to 10:34 by the last mile). Tomorrow is hydrate, hydrate - haven't decided what distance to do on Saturday. If I'm following the full marathon plan for Raleigh, I'm supposed to do 18, so we'll see!

Jackie

Hey all... I just wanted to post this quick. Tonight I had to pick up DD6.5 and we were alone. I needed to get a run in so I asked her if she wanted to run with me. She has been asking to "train" with me and has done several kids races already. So we get home, change, grab her a water bottle and head out before the rain hit. We did a run 1/walk 2 for a mile... A MILE! She did it in 16:57 and I don't even think she was pushing herself. I was so proud of her and it was great for me to have a leisurely pace. We had a great time. So when we got back I had to fill her bottle with gator-aid as per her request. She is so cute!!

Then I came in and did 20 minutes on the TM. Nothing spectacular, but I got some steps in.

Cam/Leana - I want a skirt SOOOOO bad, but my worry is that the shorts will ride up and I will get chub rub. If I wear just shorts it always happens. Seriously, which are the best to prevent that? And how do I know the correct size to get so they fit right? I am a pear and things fit me weird.

SUNNY - If you run the Twin Cities, I may have to come cheer you on. It's a short 3 1/2 hour drive for me and I love the place. I went to college in the area!!!!

OK, gotta run and finish packing for CDC!!!

Jen117- I hate skirts in real life, but love them running. The shorts underneath do ride up for the first bit of your run. Once you've warmed up, you just have to yank the shorts into place and they don't move again! Keep an eye on Leanna- she'll post sales/discounts. I have yet to pay full price for one. I found the sizing chart at skirtsports to be pretty accurate- I got the same size as in my old running shorts.

Too cute about DD and her sports bottle. She deserved it- that's a speedy mile!:thumbsup2

Good evening everyone.

Finally felt well enough to get on the TM. Ran 2 miles at a nice slow pace. The new inserts felt fine, but I think I need to get them out for a LR to really see how they feel.

I’m not going to attempt to catch up as it’s almost bedtime.

Leana – Good luck with the Nutritionathon.

Renee – Sorry to hear about the pup. Hope she’s doing better.

Judy, Judy, Judy. :)

Sunny! - What’s up, Homeslice? :cool2:

Shan – WTG with the 5 miler!

Jeanneg – Sorry to hear about the blister.

GaJen – WTG with the 3 miler.

Megan – Great job with the 2.5 miler.

Cam! :)

Jackie – WTG with the 5 miler!

Jen – Congrats to the DD. WTG with the TM run.

:)

If you get one go with the "gym girl" model. I have that one and used to have the same problem your talking about. But the skirt works great! Yes, it does ride up in the beginning but once you get a little sweaty, the shorts will stay put. Works like a charm. I think when I ordered they say that the skirts run a bit small so order up if your size falls close. There is a skirt sizing chart on the website. You can also return the skirt for a full refund as long as it is within a certain time frame.

Oh and the gymgirl has the greatest spot on leg for an Ipod or cell that works great!
