Wk of Aug 5--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dave--we'll miss you in January, buddy! But that's great to hear about MCM. Make sure to leave May 4, 2008 open. Flying Pig full marathon. We're doing it under 4:00 flat. You know you've got a place to stay down here in Cincy anytime you want.

Steve

Jen, wow I am so sorry that happened. I would be shook up too. Hang in there. Isn't your surprise WDW trip coming soon? We leave the wed after the CDC. I can't wait to wake up the kiddos that morning with there new lightning mcqueen suitcases packed.

SWdave, I am sure you are sad, but there will be other years, and what is important is that you and dw stay on the same team!

Lily, I am very glad to hear your mom is okay. I am sure that was scary for both of you.

I walked about 2 miles at an easy pace early this am. Thank goodness cause it is another hot one today. Tonight, will be 1 hour of yoga at the park district. I need to go get my boys to clean there room.

These three are Disney themed and are great to listen to while out walking or running.

Leana - Thanks for the link about the phone. Very interesting. I'll have to have DH take at look at that for me.

Jen - Sorry about the punk!

Well, today stunk. I still feel like I'm fighting a cold and had low energy this morning. Still, I went out and ran 5 miles with an average pace of 10:40. Go to upload my run onto Nike+ and the run has mysteriously vanished. Matter of fact, my ipod has been acting weird ever since I recalibrated it and has erased all my past history. Today was the first time though that it vanished before I could upload it. I called Nike+ support and he had never heard of such a thing and couldn't help me. :confused3

*Shan*- I was thinking about your calibrating issue today while on my walk. Keep in mind that most tracks are now in meters, not yards. On a really old track, one lap was a quarter mile. As racing all coverted to meters, however, tracks also were built in meters. One lap (I believe) is 400 meters, which is just short of a quarter mile (approx. 0.2485 miles). Hope this helps.

Maggie - We leave the Saturday after CDC. My girls think we are going to Ohio because that is where we change planes! It's funny because DD6 keeps asking what we are going to do in Ohio. First she thought I meant Hawaii and kept tell me she was going to learn to hula.

nepatsfan73, this is a brand new track I went to. It came out .25 each time I went around it after calibrating it. So does that mean I was a little over? Originally it showed me as .22.

While I was looking at shoes on line today, yes I'm about shoes the way some of you are about electronic running, walking goodies.

I think we have hit an all time low with this one. Nike now has a Diposable shoe, buy them run your race and toss them. Sounds like a waste of good Disney spending money to me.

It would bite to buy them for the Goofy and finding they were good for 38 miles. The last mile and a half your soles flapping like a cartoon hobo.

How weird. Why would you do that?

Why would you want to spend $45 on a disposable shoe? I'd rather spend $100 and get ones that were going to last me 300 miles...

Shan - maybe the best thing is to find a stretch of road you can drive to get the distance then run that....I didn't realize they had changed the track configuration...

SWDave - WISH you could be with us in January, but I certainly understand your decision. I think it's great that DW is supporting you for MCM. I got the email from Galloway and gave it a brief thought, but then put it on the list for another year.

Sunny - pixiedust: for being a Global Hero. You can do it!

Cam - Between Andrew's cymbals and Annie's bass drum, we should have our own WISH scream team band!

Krista - You HAVE to register (and then figure that the odds are that you won't be able to run!)

I caved to the heat. Was supposed to run outside last night, but fell asleep on the couch when I got home from work and took that as a sign that the run wasn't going to happen. Got up at 5:00 this morning and hit the TM. Created my own not-quite-speed workout - started at 4.5 and with each new song on the MP3 increased the speed by 0.1 until the final 3 songs were at 5.6. I did 4 miles with splits of 13:34, 12:06, 11:23, 10:47. And I ran the entire 4 miles without a break!

Jackie

Jackie -- What an AWESOME workout regimen!!!! :thumbsup2 CONGRATS!!!! Oh, and Andrew said he played bass drum for a while yesterday and really worries that the bass drummers will have backaches all the time. I give Annie a LOT of credit! I told Andy he'll be glad he is marching cymbals instead of snare or bass on those hot Saturday afternoon football games.

I've got one flute player, one alto-saxaphone player and one clarinet player. These three also play the piano, but that may be tough on the scream team if they are at all mobile (unless they can borrow the Boardwalk's piano playing bicyclist's piano/bike). My son put in dibs for the drums for when he is old enough to start. Unfortunately, though, they won't be with me in January, although they would love to come (maybe I can use the WISH Scream Team Band as an excuse) and are already complaining that I get an extra trip to WDW without them.

I can add a clarinet and bass guitar player....oh and DH plays a mean air drums....lol

That is the cutest thing I have ever heard!!!!!!

Jackie--Regardless of whether I run the marathon or not, I will definitely be there marathon weekend! :thumbsup2 Great run today!!!

I just finished my 3 mile run in 32:15. Very pleased with that time. Now while I'm waiting for Stephen to finish his run, I'm giving in to my guilty pleasure: Ghost Hunters. :)

Kim

Put us down for tenor sax, percussion and color guard :rockband: DD14 and DH also dabble in guitar and keyboards and DD4 plays a mean recorder ;)

I did 30 min yesterday on the TM, primarily to try out my new ASICS. I keep going back to the Cumulus every time my latest, greatest shoe doesn't work so thought maybe I should go back permanently. I've been a little nervous about the Nimbus because that's the shoe I trained in and got PF, but it's been upgraded and supposed to be more cushioned than Cumulus. I'm going to try Nimbus alternating with my Saucony's for WDW full training.

Old joke: if I wear a Cumulus on one foot and a Nimbus on the other, will there be thunderstorms during my run :lmao:

WWDave...maybe onlineshoes.com? That's where I got the new Nimbus. We do have the WISH discount at runningwarehouse, but I think it doesn't work on Mizuno or ASICS products.

SWDave...that's a really tough decision to make, but I think it will work out best in the long run.

Leana...thanks bundles for the headsup on the AAA discount. We got 15% off our ressie too!

Cam...I'll ask Jeff what it's like marching the different percussion instruments. He's done them all, except quads/quints. The cymbals used to do a lot of cool, twirly things when I was in band.

Krista...great run! I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to keep up with you for CDC, but maybe next year's races I can be in the 10-11 range.

Ya know...Steve's post reminded me...if there's no Minnie next year and the princess thing is on a different weekend...that might free up quite a few of us for the Pig :thumbsup2

That is so cute! Aren't kids great! It will be sooo fun to see her face when she realized she is going to Mickey's house (this is what we have always called WDW since dd16 was tiny).

Off to yoga class while dh takes the boys out for italian ice.
Maggie

OH, yeah, a WISH Scream Team band!!! I am SOOOO up for that. :lmao: And since I definitely want to add to the musical component of the WISH scream team, that band may have to perform for the half, too. Let's see, last time I checked, I played clarinet, 3 different kinds of bugle, guitar, spun rifle & flag. DD also spins flag and plays flute. DS is also very accomplished vocalist so if we have another talented (air) drummer, he could sing, but since he prefers to sing "Green Day" these days, it might be hard to translate ;) (did I mention that Paul Simon heard Andrew perform Friday at his performing arts camp rock concert? Very cool!)

Mel -- I hope the shoes work out and how cool about the Flying Pig. Hadn't made the connection, but what a temptation!

Jen -- How disappointed you must have been to realize you might not see a hula recital real soon! :) So glad you are feeling better today, sweetie. You'll get LOTS of hugs this weekend and hopefully, they'll sustain you when you go back to the mayhem that is work. UGH!

Maggie -- I give you a lot of credit. Not sure I'd opt for yoga class over italian water ice! ;)

Krista -- Great time! :woohoo:

Oh, guess I should report on training. The 14 city blocks I walked today in a suit with a litigation bag in 90-something degree heat should have counted for cross-training, dont' you think? I also did 30 minutes on the elliptical (2.66 miles) The machine said I burned 388 calories! HAH!! WISHful thinking, I'm sure!

Jen, sounds like an exciting surprise for sure. Am I reading that you and Maggie will be in WDW the same time? Sorry you are dealing with the rude people. Saying things is one thing, but trying to throw stuff at you is horrible.

patsBill, I never realized about the track thing. I am grateful you posted that. I was going to use our local HS track for measuring soon. Now I’ve got to get it figured. You get to go to WDW w/o the rest of the fam? OOOoohh that is wicked and what fun. I’m thinking it is a well deserved trip. We did that Minnie weekend. Great fun!

Shan, sorry about your techno difficulties. Don’t ya just hate when that happens. I love the toys and hate their frustration sometimes.

Maggie, you get to go to WDW soon? Am I reading that you and Jen will be there the same time?

Stephanie, yech on 16 miler on TM. Oh I know your pain. I’m one of those who got stuck doing my first 22 mile distance on TM. 2 movies, magazines, books…take them all.

Sunny, I’m sending all I’ve got that you get picked. How is the entry judged? I haven’t read the link yet. Global hero you are and more!

Kristi, you have toenails?! I’m jealous. Mine are just starting to look “human.” Although they did a great job covering up mine as I had that pedi after Minnie weekend to make them look good.

Krista, I love your 9 mile indoor/outdoor w/o. Love love love it! I may look into that one.

Beth, I am intrigued that you’ve got the whole family on board for the marathon experience. What a fun thing and something that will provide benefits for all! Great idea.

Mel, good idea for a Pig weekend. Seems like no May info might mean we move states.

Cam, I'm thinking that hike midday certainly counted for steps!

Family here can contribute to Scream Team band. DSs played trombone in school and DS#1 can pick up and play most anything. DH has it too. What fun that would be. Me, well :cheer2: that's it.

Cam - The WISH band absolutely has to play for the Half, since that's what I'm running, so you can add whatever musical talent you want. Annie is balking at the bass drum - says it's too big to transport :confused3 - so she may settle for flute unless one of our local Florida WISHers can supply the drum!
