Thank you everyone (again) for being there for me!
Judy-- great job getting out of bed-- you know a rolling stone (like GRANITE) gathers no moss
So did Speedy get up???????
Christa-- thank you for the s 2 miles. But at the speeds you're going, I think I'm going to have to request a third to get proper coverage
MelR--TG you are SMART and always wear your helmet.
I went to the Y today and tried out SWOGGING. I'm not sure that term properly covers it. I wore my Aqua Jogger flotation device and made jogging motions. I think if someone studied me real closely they could perceive forward motion! That is tough! I did 1200 meters with a couple of swim laps every 250 meters. Partly for a break, and partly to redeem how silly I felt. I'm sure with practice I'll get better. I think I'm going to need those expensive water jogging shoes that simulate ground feeling (free, free, free).
As far as the PT's advice against it. Well, I have to weigh all the info from all the sources and then try to do what feels right for my body. I decided to try it and feel if there was any radicular pain or back pain and there was none. So I'll watch and see how the rest of the day goes, but if I don't feel extra pain then I'm going to say AJ works for me. I also did 30 minutes on the upright stat. bike. That, too doesn't cause any pain at all.
Of course on the home front I'm going to milk the "no more than 5lb lifting rule" to its fullest extent. I'm sure a laundry basket weighs more than 5 lbs. Groceries-- yep, why, even if I need a drink of milk, someone else is going to have to pour it for me
I'm feeling optimistic again. I think part of what happens is everytime I go to an apt, I walk into a hospital and it kind of hits me in the face that I am actually facing something pretty tough.
So if I do all my Goofy training with zero-spine loading I need conversions. What's a mile in the water equivalent to land? I'd say 1 mile water must be worth 5 on land!!!! And the bike? Maybe 5 miles of bike time is equal to one mile running? I don't know yet what I'll do about my self-allowed once a week LR, but I will keep walking to try to keep the feet tough enough.
oops there goes another rubber tree plant.
