Wk of Aug 27--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Well, I was in chat for maybe 5 minutes but I had to go do my cardio before the gym closed. :tilt:

Yesterday, I did strength training for ~50 minutes and treadmill for 34 min. I managed to woggle (run, walk, crawl) 2 miles in 34 minutes. For most of you, this would not be good. For me - it's a milestone. A month ago, it took me over 21 minutes to do 1 mile. I have a long way to go for the half in January but I'm going to give it my all - or most of it. :teeth:

Tonight, I did 45 min of cardio - bike & arc trainer. Tomorrow - another round of strength training.

Carrie - I had such a good time on my Alaskan cruise. I'd love to go again and next time - spend more time in the interior of Alaska. I'm sure you'll have a blast!

Sunny - bummer! Hope your situation improves soon!

MelRhoads - yikes! I'm sure you'll be sore for a while.

Kevin - do you want to borrow one of my cats? They're good at getting me up at 4:00ish. It never fails. They won't let me go back to sleep until I feed them. They're so spoiled and I can't figure out why.

Bill and Lynda - :grouphug: I'm so sorry. :grouphug:

To all: keep up the good work.

-Penguins unite!

Darn! I missed chat again! I'm going to have to put a post-it on my forehead. Wait, I wouldn't be able to see it, I'll have to put post-its on my family's heads ;) I'll try again next week!

Morning WISH Team!

Bill and Lynda, I am sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

FL and East Coast Team, glad it's only rain! We get Ernesto remnants this holiday weekend.

Sunny, I am sorry for that bad bad information you received. I WISH you all the PD, prayers and positive energy necessary that you can make lemonade somehow out of all this. I think I read walking is ok?

Howard, hope you got your HW done last night.

Was off work yesterday to take DH to Cleve Clinic so today will be double strength. It was not a great day by far. DH is ok but I was reliving a story told by our Sunny when I went to be with DH after his diagnostic procedure. They repeated the procedure another doc did 3 wks ago b/c this doc does his own and a bit more thoroughly. DH was expecting a different diagnostic. We then ended up spending ALL day hanging around waiting for follow-up consult. Still in investigating stages. More follow-up to occur. Whew.

I'm glad I made it to Chat last night. That was the Only bright spot to our long day yesterday.

Gotta get to work...

I lied about catching up - our internet at home is down, AGAIN!!! :badpc:

I skipped yesterdays 3 miles since I was pretty sore from the previous day's 5 mile on the indoor track. I am scheduled to do 5 miles again today.

Sunny - I wish I had some words that would help you feel better about your situation. Everytime I want to quit, not workout, whatever - I will picture you kicking my sorry behind! :cool1: :teeth:

As soon as Verizon figures out what is wrong with our dsl / phone line, I'll catch up some!

Good morning all. Naturally, I missed the chat. We were food shopping. I guess we are in a rut, eh?

I just want you guys to know how much you all have influenced me. This morning my alarm went off at 4:15am, and the FIRST thing that popped into my mind was...

"Kevin! Time to get up!"

Then I was so tired I REALLY didn't feel like schlepping down to that TM. But I thought of Sunny and said...

" I can do this. I will not take it for GRANITE!"

Did my 10w/5r intervals today. I know I said I would try tiny intervals today, but well, I didn't.

I do, however, have to get caught up on real work, so I'll keep this short. :surfweb:

Wow!!! great job judy!!!

I just did some weight training today. I haven't lifted in a long time. I think I'm going to do some boy in tow road bike miles at pea ridge NMP today. I checked my helmet from the crash and it is not cracked. It is dented though. I'm glad that was my helmet and not my head!! I use both of them a lot, but i use my head more often than the helmet so if one had to be damaged, well... you know :teeth:

Melissa - You crack me up! So glad you were not hurt!

Judy - Congrats on getting up! :cool1:

Sunny - I think we need to get you Drs. together for a little intervention :furious: ! I could use my counseling and EQ at the same time. SO sorry you are going through this...I am praying for you every time I LR...You normally get at least 2 miles if not more. :goodvibes

Just did a few weights today. The foot feels better, but I am still taking it easy. I keep telling myself that taking the week off from running is OK and will help me in the LR (no pun intended). It is not easy though and even though I have done weights and swam, I can tell I am cranky w/out the running! Will run 10 tomorrow. DH and BIL are running 9 so I may run their route and add a mile. That way I can go a little slower and not hurt my foot again.
Now back to work.....client notes and such! :surfweb:

Thank you everyone (again) for being there for me!

Judy-- great job getting out of bed-- you know a rolling stone (like GRANITE) gathers no moss :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

So did Speedy get up??????? :scratchin

Christa-- thank you for the s 2 miles. But at the speeds you're going, I think I'm going to have to request a third to get proper coverage :rotfl:

MelR--TG you are SMART and always wear your helmet.

I went to the Y today and tried out SWOGGING. I'm not sure that term properly covers it. I wore my Aqua Jogger flotation device and made jogging motions. I think if someone studied me real closely they could perceive forward motion! That is tough! I did 1200 meters with a couple of swim laps every 250 meters. Partly for a break, and partly to redeem how silly I felt. I'm sure with practice I'll get better. I think I'm going to need those expensive water jogging shoes that simulate ground feeling (free, free, free).

As far as the PT's advice against it. Well, I have to weigh all the info from all the sources and then try to do what feels right for my body. I decided to try it and feel if there was any radicular pain or back pain and there was none. So I'll watch and see how the rest of the day goes, but if I don't feel extra pain then I'm going to say AJ works for me. I also did 30 minutes on the upright stat. bike. That, too doesn't cause any pain at all.

Of course on the home front I'm going to milk the "no more than 5lb lifting rule" to its fullest extent. I'm sure a laundry basket weighs more than 5 lbs. Groceries-- yep, why, even if I need a drink of milk, someone else is going to have to pour it for me :rotfl2:

I'm feeling optimistic again. I think part of what happens is everytime I go to an apt, I walk into a hospital and it kind of hits me in the face that I am actually facing something pretty tough.

So if I do all my Goofy training with zero-spine loading I need conversions. What's a mile in the water equivalent to land? I'd say 1 mile water must be worth 5 on land!!!! And the bike? Maybe 5 miles of bike time is equal to one mile running? I don't know yet what I'll do about my self-allowed once a week LR, but I will keep walking to try to keep the feet tough enough.

oops there goes another rubber tree plant. :teeth:

:rotfl2:

Krist-- I've been meaning to tell you about a new shopping plaza right down the street from the Burlington Mall. It's been in construction forever, but they are finally putting some signs up. There is an LL Bean, Cold Water Creak, Ann Taylor, Justice Just for Girls (I don't know what that is), West Elm, Omaha Steak, Ginger Pod (asian restaurant), New Balance, and a bunch more that haven't been revealed yet. Its a bit upscale for my budget, but I will watch the clearances, especially at LL Bean. To get there, you just follow Mall Road past Lahey Clinic and turn right at the next lights.

I'll let you know when its opening. At the rate they're going that should be a couple of years!

Sunny

Lily – So sorry for all your DH is going through and I hope you both see a prompt and painless and very favorable result soon. And I am really glad you made it to chat last night. It was so much fun!

Sunny – still sending prayers and pixiedust: and :goodvibes: for you. LOVE the rubber tree plant toting ant! You are so clever! :teeth:

Judy – awesome intervals! You blow me away! :thumbsup2

Good luck MelR! Maybe you should replace the helmet – don’t they develop weak spots once they take an impact? Take care, sweetie!

So, where's Kevin? Did he get up and run? ;)

Judy -- I should get you to call me. I used to be a morning person, honest!

Oh, another LL Bean! :goodvibes Alot of the Burlington stores are a little too pricey for my budget. Most of the time, I stop there on the way home from Boston to get something on sale/clearance at Gymboree. (I am such a Gymbo addict) I used to stop more when the Disney Store was really a Disney Store (not owned by Children's Place). Oh, and since I was a cast member for like, forever, my discount encouraged stops at other stores WAY too much.

I was at the Rainforest Cafe on Sunday with a friend & our kiddos.
I was thinking of you! :grouphug:
Speaking of Rainforest - that volcano is an evil, evil thing! :teeth:

And speaking of weight (kind of - volcano dessert + Kristi = gain 4 lbs. at WW) - why I am not one of the ones who loses crazy amounts of weight & cannot eat enough? Life stinks sometimes. :teeth:

Ok, off to get ready to go out & do 5 miles!

Sunny - I have High Hopes for you too!! I think teh 1 water MUST = 5 land miles. That is tough!

The guilt thing worked on solo yesterday. Shall we try it again? ;)

The heat and humidity finally borke last night. I am looking forweard to my 40 min last night. My legs are tired, thoughm, adn one claf cramped up last night and is still alittle sore. It'll just be me and the mp3, though. I always run better w/o [ressure. We'll see...

Hi everyone. I didn't get up this morning to run and now I feel really bad about it. I did get up the last two mornings tho, does that count? Since it is dark when I get up, I had to do it on the treadmill. I did 30 minutes each morning.

I am anxiously awaiting my MFM book so I can get my real training started. Why does it take so long to ship it???

Sunny - I hope the doctors can come to a consensous and find a treatment that fixes you. It is no fun being broken. I highly encourage using this for your advantage at home!!!! ;)

Does any one want to see me and my gang at Disneyland last week???? Well here we are with Pooh.

FamilywithPooh0806.jpg

Here are my running wannabe girls with their favorite Indian. The little princess had to hug him everytime we walked by (along with the one on Main Street).

KidsandIndian0806.jpg

Very cute Jen! And with my favorite bear! :goodvibes

Awesome pics Jen! I can't wait to hug that indian myself in 15 days. :yay:

Just got back from my 5 miler. Lost steam after 3rd mile (again). I also was having a tough time breathing. Nothing major, just not great when running. I think it may have something to do with having my allergy shots done around lunch time today. I did wait the 2 hours to exercise that they recommend though. I also always take a couple preventive hits of the Albuterol before I exercise. Weird. :confused3 So, for the last 2 miles, I only walked - not running. My time was much better than I thought for being tired and not running at the end:
13:24
12:52
12:04
13:34
13:33
1:05:28

Last Thurs. I did the same route/miles, incorporating running the whole time and was only :04 shorter. Maybe I should just do my fast walking the whole time and skip this running thing! (only kidding)

I know there are some other WW people here, I have a question for you. What kind of activity do you count walk/running as? I have been counting it as 'moderate.' But I wonder if it's high intensity since I am walking pretty fast and doing some running also.

Off to Sports Authority for more Power Gel for Sunday's 9 miles! I can't believe I will be on a plane to DL in exactly 2 weeks! :dance3:

Kristi - I usually count walk/jog as moderate, unless I am doing mostly jogging, then high. But if the points are more that 8, it freaks me out a bit.

I wish I could have been at DL for the 1/2 marathon. But with DD starting kindergarten, that just wasn't going to work. Good luck and I will be thinking of everyone during the race. If anyone needs some DL inspiration, I can share more pics!!!

Jen-great pics! Yes, I want to see more more more. 14 more days til I'm there.

Kristi-you were cruisin' girl! I have been counting wogging as moderate so I can be conservative.

Sunny- I cannot imagine how you must be feeling. I hope something starts working for you :grouphug: :wizard: I agree, 1 mile in the water should be 5 on land. Thats worse than running on sand.

I forgot about last nights chat, again. :confused3
I am lovin this Core program!!!!! I lost 4 lbs this week :cool1: :woohoo:

xt on bike & wt today. The humidity has lightened up today, hopefully it will still be like that when I wog tomorrow.
