Wk of Aug 27--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Bill - You are right! I should have thougth about teh ship movement canceling itself out as we head away from the direction of the ship movement. We'll still have to check it out when we go.

Kevin - I had better hear that you ran today or I'm going to have dh pick you up on his way home and run with us!!!!

Krista - I wear ASICs Kiena?, but (don't tell dh 'cause these were way $$$) I think I liked my 2100's better. :O I don't think I pronate, though.

MelR - Hope you get that bike in line soon. DOesn't teh PUSS treat you better?

Suga - Great run!

Bekah - Hope the rest helps your foot! BTW - You're going to have to get on Solo if he slacks while we're on vacation!

jodi - Last I read, electronics were still allowed in carry ons. This year, we had Garmin adn charger, 2 cameras and chargers, mp3 and charger and cell pohne and charger. NO porb getting though security. We also wore our running shoes just to make sure they made it.

Kristi - :worship: I can't stand indoor tracks! Good for you for not cutting it short!

Pung - I don't know about teh bars. I never checked mine, but I don't think I keep them around long enough to know. I would think a few weeks would be fine. I don't know what would spoil in them.

Wendy - Thanks so much for taking on the shirt re-orders!

I did Curves last night and am sore. That is so sad. I obviously was away from there too long. Last week I was sore running after my Curves WO. Hope it's better tonight. I have to do 40 min.

Oh, dh got his first Runners WOrld last night. He found "Marathon Plan for Slakers." The only saslacking part of it was that you only train for 16 weeks. However, you end up doing 2 20-milers and ramp up pretty darn steep IMO! Nope, I'll stick with MfM, thanks!

Carrie - I wonder if that plan for slackers is the same one they published last yr. as a 3 day/week run program. it was 16 weeks w/ 2 20's. I used it train for goofy. I knew all along i was a slacker, but last yr. they billed it as one for triathletes!! :rotfl2: The puss treats me a lot better!! I have to ride the bronc b/c we are getting ready for adv race season and i don't think i am strong enough to handle endurance biking w/ only one speed. i would much rather ride the puss. i like her b/c she is lighter, prettier and nothing to go wrong. Plus, she never throws me!! :teeth: Oh, btw, I've been meaning to tell you that you can come and do the mean girls tri next yr. you said you would like to do it if certain requirements were met, but the only requirement for entry is that you are "mean" which translates to stubborn :cool1:

I'm taking a rest day today. My neck is stiff and sore from the crash!! Today i'm playing w/ 2 watch purchases, trying to decide which one to keep. Huge and more technically cool, or smaller (but not much) and a little less tech. cool

Thanks everyone for all the prayers and pixie dust. While my grandmothers death wasn't unexpected it was still a shock. However she isn't in pain anymore and since she broke her hip a couple of months ago that is all she has known for a while.

We are starting to get the rain bands from Ernesto and it really isn't conducive to running right now. Today's training may have to get postponed until tomorrow. Although the track now has it exiting about 40 miles from our house so that is a little closer than I would like it. ;)

Providing we actually keep power today, I will try to catch up on everyone.
Bill, I just wanted to send my condolensenses (sp?) for your grandmother. I'm very sorry for your loss. Stay safe with Ernesto bearing down on you.

Hello Team: I wanted to post while I take a break for lunch. I got up early today and ran. It was tough getting out there this morning (body wanted to sleep), but I forced myself to get out there. Went to the high school track around 6:00am, walked 1 lap, ran 3 MILES, walked 1 lap. My total time was 38-something and it came out to an average of 10:30 mpm. But that was counting my walking laps. I should have hit the lap button after that first walking lap, because I know I was under 10 mpm pace. When I scrolled through it said mile 2 was 9:20 and mile 3 was 9:30. The best thing was my shins feel fine. I think running on the softer surfaces like tracks are helping. So far, I only do my LR on the roads. Plus I think it's really helping that I'm not doing back to back runs and letting my legs recover. Tomorrow, I'm supposed to run too, and I think I may try my first back to back runs of my training.

Ciao

Dave - You might want to check out the program i used last yr. it only requires running 3 days per week and they are never back to back. I modified mine a little to do back to back for goofy, but i probably won't this yr unless that is the way it works out for the boy's preschool schedule. It may be the same as the one in RW this month. i have not had a chance to look. I also modified it last yr so that the speed work was just run 3 miles as fast as i could w/ a rest (walk break) every .5 miles. the other w/ all the 400's 1200's 800's was just too much to mess w/!!

Bill and Lynnda -- sending a

I did 4 miles last night at an average pace of 14:18 (total 57:11). I was pleased with that and am hoping my 10 mile LR this Sunday will be a great pace so I can stop worrying so much about DL.

Thanks Mel - Right now I'm using the MfM run program, and it has 4 days of running (although I only did 3 last week and did an extra x-training day). I'm going to give the 4 days of running a try and see how my shins hold up, but if they start bothering me again I will definitely go down to running 3 days/week and cross train the other days. Speedwork? We don't need no stinkin' speedwork... actually, I've been pretty negligent on that. I figure I'll just be happy to finish the marathon and am not worried about time. It seems like most of my runs at 9:30-10mpm are pretty much as fast as I can go right now. I guess I could go a little faster for 30 seconds or so, but I just don't want to risk injuring myself again. I'm content being pokey right now.

YAY! I'm back! I'm back! I'm back! :dumbo: :tigger: :goofy:

Of course, since they rebuilt my computer EVERYTHING is different. But, first stop..get caught up on the WISH threads!!

Today was a rest day for me, but yesterday I did my intervals, 45 min on the TM. I'd like to do more outside but it has been raining like crazy here! Maybe this weekend I can get in some training on the pavement. Stay away Ernesto! :headache:

Claire - Welcome back! What kind of horse-related xt were you doing?? :teeth:

Dave - I agree, even just registering for the two 5Ks makes me feel more like training. I'm doing thes races strictly for the experience of doing a race. I didn't want the Half to be my first event ever. I am worried though that I am becoming borderline annoying, as over breakfast this morning I was studying the course and making comments about the hills and stuff. Poor Charlie. The things he puts up with. Oh hey, great training today! I'm so impressed with your speed. I don't think you're pokey at all! :thumbsup2

Lily - Thank you, I DO feel more athletic in my new work-out clothes! Say, I love the pictures of you vogueing in the WISH shirt! You go girl!

Bill and Lynda - How are you holding up down there?? I'm sorry sorry to hear about your loss.

Jen - Welcome back!

Cam - Oh I'm so happy to see you here! I know you have so much going on. You're a funny girl though, worrying about 2.8 pounds since April. Please. I've put that much in in a weekend! You can get rid of it. Don't stress. Just do it. Hmmm...I've heard that somewhere before. I'm so glad DD loves college! And how cool about DS meeting a star! :smooth:

Suzy - :wave2: I know you're busy but we miss you!

Melissa - Bad bad Bronc! OMG I hope you're OK. :worried: Bad, BAD Bronc!!

Christa - :wizard: for your foot. What was it about the sidewalks? Were they uneven?

Krista - Ouch! That stinks. I do about 80% of my training on the TM and I don't have any calve issues. Hmm..I wonder what it could be. Weird that it's not consistant. :confused3

Carrie - Remember my post from when we were on the cruise in April??? I saved it on my Garmin. It said I did something like 25 miles in 20 minutes! Man, I was MOVING, don't you think?? :lmao: We ran/walked on the upper deck of the ship. It was wonderful, especially early in the morning. The biggest issue I had was the idiots who STOOD on the track so we all had to zig and zag around them while they watched the sun come up and had their coffee. Grrrr. Ohh, enjoy Alaska. We almost got married there last year on a Princess cruise. That is, until we saw the Wilderness Lodge....

Kevin - What time zone are you in? Want me to start calling you when I get up? :wave2:

Jodi - Thanks, I am going to take the two 5Ks relatively easy. I think I have an email from you - that's my next stop after I leave here. I'm glad to see I am not the only one thinking of her packing list for January already. :teeth:

OK let me go put my computer back the way it was.... :badpc:

OMG! how coudl I have forgotten that? :confused3 Guess we really, really will have to count laps.

Hi all!

Just a quick (completely selfish) drive-by for the moment. I promise to catch up tomorrow when I have a minute to breathe...

I need a sincere butt-kicking here........

I Haven't Run in 8 days!!!

:guilty: :faint:

I know, I know!!! I'm a slug ! I have been busy, I know, but not so busy I can't do a quick 35 minutes!! Gah!! I can't shake outta this rut right now.. and I need to get started BAD!!

My solumn declaration is that I WILL get up in the morning and get my run in. If I have to get up at 4:30AM I will.

Thank you for allowing me to confess... I feel a little better.

Kevin :earsboy:

Kevin--

I seriously am kicking your butt. I'm sitting in my house on a perfect running day, it's also the kids first day back to school. I'd give absolutely anything to be able to go out there and run... So you better get out there and run for me!

Judy-- I remember your cruisin' "cruise" laps :rotfl2: I told everyone at work about it (we're geeks so we like things like that).

Remember the upbeat inspirational Sunny of last week? Well she flew the coup. PT today was not encouraging. She did the whole back analysis thing and then told me my radicular (radiating down the legs) pain is primarily from the Spondylolysis (one disc protruding over the other) and not the stenosis. She stressed that I need to do everything within my power to postpone the need of a fusion surgery. That means no stress on the back. She said I am way too young for a lac/fusion (as have all the others). The first 4 drs mentioned the Spondylolysis but seemed to dismiss it as minimal. The ns nurse practioner was delighted that I was running again (back in late June). None of them agree with each other. I think back then they had missed the stenosis altogether.

The PT's orders: NO RUNNING, little walking, no elliptical (hyperextends the back), little light swimming but not DWR due to the resistance. No lifting anything more than 5 lbs and basically stop doing anything that causes pain :confused3 The upright stationary bike is the only thing she felt was safe. She was concerned that I've been on perc for so long (well, duh, so am I). She set up 6 weeks of 2x week apts where she will teach me strength training/posture etc. The sheets she handed me today had no new info that I don't already know.

You wonder sometimes how ordinary people go postal. I'm about ready to find any means necessary to force these 4 drs, 1 nurse pract. and the new PT into one room and make them all discuss this. None of them agree. One thing for sure is that none of them want me to have this surgery. Of course I don't want ot have it either, but my quality of life is non-existent.

So, if I go by her guidelilnes, Goofy is out. I'm not ready to make that decision yet, but if I do, I'll let you all know so if anyone wants my POFQ room we can try to do the switch.

Back to you, Speedy and others stuck in slug mode. I don't want to sound preachy, but you just don't know what a treasure it is to be able to strap on the shoes and go out and run... don't take it for GRANITE

So much for making lemonade :sad2:

I am mean! Can I do it...if I can keep up and find the $$$$!
Christa - for your foot. What was it about the sidewalks? Were they uneven?
Judy - Sidewalks are the worst thing in the world to run on! I normally run on the road with a little bit of sidewalk, but last week I wanted to stay close to the starting point b/c of my heartburn so I ran around a park (on sidewalk) and on busy streets (w/ sidewalks) for the last 4 miles. The surface is harder on your feet. I was also going a bit faster than normal b/c I did not want DH to wait for me. He did 8.3 and I did 14...I finished 15 min after him...I was booking!

Today - Swam 2000 yards. Which is a little over a mile....I did a mile in 52 min....I know, I am A SLOW swimmer!

Oh no, Sunny.... :guilty: This is not what I wanted to hear from you. :sad2: Oh no. I don't even know what to say.

Wait. I do know one thing. You gave me a chuckle with the GRANITE. But you do make an excellent point for those of us who tend to be slugs.

Oh Sunny, I wish there was something I could do for you. :flower3:

Christa - Duh!! Of course you can!!! Anyone who is evil enough to be the evil queen of running is mean enough to do the mean girls half IM!!

Sunny - AUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH :furious: It is time that your med providers get their act together!!!! They have got you on active/bedridden intervals!! I can't imagine what the pt is going to be able to teach you in 6 weeks about stg. training that you don't know. I'm sure the posture stuff will be helpful, but... good grief!!!!!!! I really don't understand the "little walking" thing. I was a case manager for people on Work Comp for years. Lots of my clients had back injuries and the popular school of thought was that walking was good for the back. Many of the MD's recommended walking to help.

Where did you get that finger wagging smile???? That is awesome????

:furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: Aaaaaaarghhhhh, your doctors are UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I'm getting so mad - so I can just imagine how you are dealing with it. I am so, so, so, so, so sorry that you are having to deal with all this!!!!! I wish you could get all your doctors in the room together to talk. It seems like you get such an inconsistent picture all the time. I wish you the best Sunny!!!! What a huge pain (no pun intended) this has been for you!!!

Sunny - I am so sorry that you can't get any 2 answers alike. I cannot imagine your frustration. Then, to hear some of us are slacking, that has got to put you over the edge.

Challenge - OK everyone!~ Next time you want to stay in bed, stay out of the rain, just don't feel like going out, think of SUnny adn get your butt out there!!!!! No more slacking!!!! Where's the drill sargeant smilie when you need it?

I did my 40 minutes today. My legs were tired, but we did pretty good. (10:46 ave). Not looking forward to tomorrow's b2b, but I will get out there!!

There's a link on the events board. I'll go bump that thread.
