Wk Of Aug 26 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Unfortunately, no new training to report. Had a good walk on Monday night (2.25 miles at 18:20 pace), then the wheels fell off Friday as my back starting tightening during my walk. Only did 1.5 miles (had to get back home) and needed a sun dial to time the pace. Eventhough the back felt better during the day Friday, it has been spasming on and off since Friday night and I am starting to look like a question mark again. Oh well. I'll give it a few days to calm down and loosen up. Hoefully I won't lose the gains made thus far.

Congrats to everyone on their workouts, long runs, long bike rides and those WISHers who had/have cycling events this weekend. You all help keep me inspired (even if today it is only from a computer monitor).

Also, my best to all the wouned WISH warriors for speedy recoveries.

Hi! I've heard great things about WISH and wanted to check it out. I am part of the Sole Sisters of Portland, OR (klh-or, rake5) and we're doing the half marathon at WDW.

I'd love to be added to the team! Thanks!

Kim: Good job on the 12K!

Beth: Wow....18 miles!!! Yayyy! I'm not sure I could keep at it with a migraine.:headache:

Did my 70 mile ride yesterday! Was 97 when we finished and the course was very hilly. There was one hill that was over 2 miles long! Another one was called "Walk Up Hill". I went up that one at a blistering 12 MPH! But all in all it was good. Ave pace was around 18/19 MPH but got up to 33.5 a few times!

   and did I mention  !

Excellent job! ETA: You didn't by chance go to UF did you? I am curious about your user name.

nepatsfan73: If you don't mind me asking...what is wrong with your back? My back went out during my 20 miler for my full training 3 years ago (almost). My lower back ended up swelling later in the week. Wasn't until 6 months later that we found the source. But turning my taper into a sleeper helped and I did run/walk the full back-pain free. (though if you notice my time, I had other much more severe problems that day unrelated to back pain).

plutopdx WELCOME!!!! And tag teaming is a-okay around here. I was with team in training my first 2 seasons. Split my time between that team and my WISH team. :)

My quads are starting to notice that I ran this morning.:scared1:

nepatsfan73: If you don't mind me asking...what is wrong with your back?

To try to sum it up briefly:rolleyes1 , the primary problems with my back are arthritis, spondolosis and a few bulging disks, one of which sits on the nerve that runs to the top of the leg and then splits to the hip and/or groin. I also tore muscles in my back twice while wrestling in high school and college. This has been the primary reason why I have had reoccurring episodes of spasms over the past 25+ years and the spasming has affected the disks. These back problems have been compounded by having both hips replaced due to osteoarthritis over the past 2 1/2 years. I also picked up a hopital infection during the initial right hip replacement and before everything was "straightened" out on that side I had 5 surgeries (two to put hips in, one to take the first artificial hip out (I went about 3 months with no hip on the right side) and a couple of clean out procedures). All the hip stuff resulted in alignment and posture problems that made the back worse.

Hope thats not too much detail. At this point in my life, its just something I try to deal with and I try to limit how much I let it affect me day in and day out, even when I am walking around bent in half.

Kelly: congrats on the 23 miles........and good luck on the 26! The only thing that's missing from your training program is another medal.

Jackie: so sorry to hear about the foot and hope you recover quickly.

Renee: how long does it take you to get to Shelley lake? We're in WF and sometimes it takes 40-45 minutes to get there. I have never seen the guy on stilts and I have no idea how to get to the Crabtree trail. Is it through that little underpass that goes underneath near the parking lot?

Beth: Wow, 18 miles......that's amazing! Funny story about your wet dollar bill.

The Mickey marathon is exactly 20 weeks from today! Time to get excited!

Excellent job! ETA: You didn't by chance go to UF did you? I am curious about your user name.

Nah, TCU! Funny though...I guess the user name is kinda strange for someone who did not go to UF....Long story short, we call my DD9 Gator, so that is my username...mainly so I can remember it.:rotfl:

nepatsfan73 - Sorry about the back! Lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you to get through this!

plutopdx - WELCOME!

The Mickey marathon is exactly 20 weeks from today! Time to get excited!
:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: That make me sad...not excited! I am not going this year!:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:
So to ease my pain and suffering I am running the Charlotte Marathon, and trying to talk DH into Myrtle Beach marathon...and in April there is a trail marathon on the Va Creeper Trail for only $10:eek: YES you heard right! $10 for a marathon!!!!:cool1: And I MAY do it!:woohoo:

Good morning WISH Team.

Robert and I are planning dinner at that Canadian Steak House at Epcot for the 16th of January, anyone else interested before I look at getting reservations?

Erica the Wonder Princess and I start our Goofy training today. The plan is for 5 miles today and 10 tomorrow. I have really missed training with her while she was down with the summer cold. I told her I better start working out with weights so I'll be able to carry her butt for 39 miles. Yep that got me whacked.

The temp is down here today and should be slowly decreasing for a while. I'm so ready for the cooler weather. We haven't had rain for a long time.

Have an awesome day Team.

Dave:hippie: I like the hippie icon, I really was one, purple bell bottoms and all.

Morning teammates! Not sure what's on the plate today. DD has her first ballet class--so I might do an easy run or some xtraining during that. Yesterday was a rest day--and boy did I need it--felt like I had been run over by a large truck. After training for a marathon in the winter and now in the summer, I would much rather run in the 30s than the 80s!

WWDave--Would love to join you at Le Cellier--but we're heading back home on the 15th. It's one of our faves, have a great time!

Christa--Wow, 3 marathons to make up for not doing disney--you must be REALLY depressed!;) Good luck training for all those events, and you will be with us in spirit!

Kelley--Wow on the 23 miler! That's awesome :cheer2: . I'm not one to go over the 20 miler in training, but if those longer pre-race distances work for you go for it!:thumbsup2 My dad always trained at 23+ for marathons, his theory was, if he didn't run those longer distances during training, how would he know what to expect in a race. My theory, whatever gets you to the starting line healthy and allows you to finish in the allotted time works for me!;)

Patsbill--Wow on all the back stuff and hip replacement, shall we say, snafus! I'm amazed that you are even trying to get out there and walk and train for a 1/2! WTG!

plutopdx--Welcome to our madness, um, I mean team!

Beth--WTG on the 18 miles! DH keeps talking about how bad it was, but I keep reminding him of what wise old Rafiki says "It's in the past!" It's in the books, we did it, no matter how long it took, unlike 99% of the population we were out there sweating for 3+ hours this weekend!

jeanneg--Wow on 20 weeks--:yay: :dance3: I remember how fast this past 18 week training plan has flown by for me! On week 15 already! WDW will be here before we know it!:woohoo:

Kim--WTG on your 12K!:yay:

Lisa--WTG starting the training for Goofy--I am just amazed that you are training period this soon after having a baby! My son was at least 9 months old before I decided that some of the baby weight MUST come off!

Hey--any ya'll have experience with spider bites? I know WAY off topic, but DD has some really strange bite on her leg. She complained about it hurting, but it never itched. And it really hasn't gotten better since Sat. morning. Okay, off to get dressed and get DD ready for ballet! Have a great Monday morning all!

Hey, where are Carrie and Cam??:confused3

:( I'm so sorry to hear that. Have any Physical Therapists been able to help you out? My mom has severe back issues that have her disabled. She can't stand or sit for too long and requires a scooter at Disney!

I admire your fortitude (is that the right vocab word??) to push on and do what you can. WTG!:cheer2:

lol! I had a friend who has done a couple of post baby marathons. I figure I am no more out of shape having a baby than I was before my first marathon. I actually think I am stronger---though these runs...WOW!

As far as spider bites. I know my daughters when they get mosquito bites, they get pretty big. Oldest daughter has a sensitivity to them.

Me: Day 2 of training--then tomorrow a rest day and will pick up on Wed right on schedule. Hubby left at 4am this morning. So I had to do my run today with the kids entertaining the baby on my bed. I was to do 35 minutes...but at around 22 minutes...he had had enough. So I wrapped it up at 26:30 and 2.11 miles on the treadmill and a mini cool down. Pace was 12.56---so not fair that we go faster on the treadmill.:rolleyes1 Trying to be efficient--I did 2:3's instead of 3:2's....flipped it from a run/walk to a walk/run with the first 2:00 walk serving as a warm-up. NO worries though b/c this season before i start running, I do 3 of Teresa Tapp's exercises that do a fine job of getting the body ready for a workout.

Was bummed that I didn't get the full run in for about a millisecond. But remembered reading an article in runner's world about some guy who hasn't missed a day of running for like 20 years...."ANY run is better than NO run"....

So with no hubby home--respectable training day and thus..another VICTORY.

Shuffling around the homeschool schedule--going to try 10am starts (we do about 2.5-3 hours) to accomodate settling baby down in his crib for his morning nap, the early morning training, and chore time.

Interviewing a maid service on Thursday...b/c....I officially HATE cleaning!
New A/C getting installed on Thursday/Friday to replace the innefficient dinosaur that we own. ($323 power bill last month and we are not staying cool as cucumbers! )

19 weeks 5 days until Goofy....:woohoo:

Welcome plutopdx:cheer2:

Dave-- Are your wife's not eating with you two, since you said you and Robert were dining on the 16th? :rotfl2:

patsbill-- Sending pixie dust that your back is feeling better.

Kelley--- Great job on your 23 miler at that pace. I will be doing the half in Baltimore, but using it as a training walk so I am only going to do about a 15 minute pace.

Beth---So glad you were able to get your 18 miles done and doing it with a migarine is remarkable. Great job. The weather yesterday was so much better than on Sat. Doing Va beach this coming this weekend should be easy for you after doing the 18.

Kim--- Great job on your 12K in the heat.

gatorphipps---Riding 70 miles in 97 degree heat and hills, great job.

Start my 20 week training program today. The beginning will be the easy part, it will be when I get to those long miles that I will wonder what I have gotten myself into.

Nancy

Besides it sounds alot better than Horned Frog (at least if your TCU is the one in Fort Worth). ;)

Bill

Patsbill: so sorry to hear about your back troubles. Been there, done that so I know how painful it can be.

Christa: any chance you might do the City of Oaks full or half marathon? It wouldn't be too far to travel.

Day 1 of training.....I'm off to do a short speed walk outside.

Robert and I are planning dinner at that Canadian Steak House at Epcot for the 16th of January, anyone else interested before I look at getting reservations?

Dave I would get an ADR (Advanced Dining Reservation) ASAP for LeCellier. You can always over estimate, but the more people you have the tougher it might be. This is a very popular (and, IMHO, good) restaurant. With my family of 6, we usually shoot for lunch reservations as early as the window opens for ADRs (180 days) or as soon as we know we are taking a trip. Better safe than sorry if you really want to try it.

Nah, TCU!

I guess gatorphipps sound a little better than hornedfrogphipps. At least you don't have to explain what a horned frog is.

ETA: I guess the Original Bill beat me to the horned frogs reference.

Thanks everyone for the pixie dust for the back. As I said, its something I've had to deal with most of my life. I am hoping, in the long "run", that consistant exercise and losing a lot of weight will help minimize the back issues. Thus, I have joined WISH as one means of trying to accomplish this.

I'm at work half an hour and already I have issues! UGH! :headache:

Anyway, I'll come back later and get caught up, I just wanted to post about my first post-surgery L/R.....

It was foggy Saturday morning. So foggy that I really thought I'd be safer on the TM. But then I thought, no, you big baby, get out there. So I did.

Here's my splits:

1) 14:00 (Waddling and babying right foot)
2) 14:55 (OK everything is creaky, but I waddled on)
3) 11:54 (Enough waddling! Let's take this baby out and see what she can do!)

The Bionic Foot held up pretty well. It was still a little sore, but I guess that's to be expected. A pathetic distance, but I'm happy to be back out there. :thumbsup2

Oh, and the fog made the newly paved road a little wet so I sounded like a duck, squeak squeak squeak, for the entire three miles. You'd be amazed how many people are up at 7:30am on a Saturday on bikes and walking. How embarrassing.

Judy...good job on your first post surgery run/walk.......but please don't overdo it - that 3rd mile was awfully fast!

Sorry guys, things have been total LTO/WTO around here lately, but I have been getting my training in. Thursday was 2 mi and boot camp. Finished in 22:17. Friday was a rest day, then Saturday I went out for 12. Finished in 2:17:36 for an 11:28/mi pace. Tonight I'm shooting for 6 mi.

1. You will make out like a bandit if you are elibigle for the Disney Dining Experience. YOu do need to get this ahead of time. And if you get it too close to your trip, you can pick up the letter at EPCOT (let DDE know) and you can use that if you don't have your DDE card. 20%...including alcohol. I relished getting a discounted frufru drink at Poly to go drink on the beach while watching the fireworks. EACH person must have their own though. You used to be able to get two (like for you and a spouse or partner) but they changed that.:headache: And the person whose name is on the card MUST be present to use it.

WWDave - just to clarify, if you and Erica are dining together you don't both need a card, one card gets you up to 10 people at your table a discount. But if you split up, the person with their name on the card is the only one who can use. We made our $65 back and then some when we were down for Minnie, and we still have ToT and the marathon to go.

Judy...good job on your first post surgery run/walk.......but please don't overdo it - that 3rd mile was awfully fast!

Jeanne, Jeanne, Jeanne, my dear, you are too kind.

I know, I looked at my Garmin and I was like "WHERE did THAT come from??!!"

And yes, in the absence of wildlife to converse with, I speak to my Forerunner. :upsidedow

Squeak, squeak, squeak.

Nancy:You are to funny!:rotfl: :rotfl: I did the 18 miles, but I was thinking at mile 13 "how bad was that?" and how can I go another 5 miles????:confused3 It still want to be an easy 1/2 marathon, but I will get it done.

Stephanie: I would have a doctor look at the 'bite'. Spider bites are not really that common, and it could be something else especially since she didn't notice it happen.

So, today will hopefully be stretch class ((((I need it!))) and then Pilates. I am really going to have to start moving though. I have a dozen errands and I have to take my dear boys with me. They start school tomorrow!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I am psyched!

Beth

Mel - I have found that I have been fusing plans together myself. Higdon, and Galloway, with a little bit of RW stuck right in there!!

Jackie - I am so sorry. I hope you foot is feeling better soon.

kristin - I am not one of the ones with mileage that high yet (at least not for this year) I have started mixing half water and half gatorade for my fluids during my runs and that has helped alot. If you are running for more than an hour they say you need some sort of replacement, but I don't know what you would be able to take with your food allergies short of taking a bag of actual food with you.

Jen - Your teachers actually come to your home to visit!! I wish ours let us know the day before that they were having a "meet your teacher" at the school!!

Lisa - I have found that if I start about 20 minutes before official sunrise that there is sufficient light to run and feel comfortable. Since I am a chicken about running in the dark I make sure to get started as soon as the firt rays of light hit the trail!!

Kelley - I know that the Galloway plan has people walk/run for 26 miles before a marathon, then a 3 week taper. Last year I followed the Galloway plan and did the 26. This year I won't be doing that, just because I didn't feel that it helped. I plan on running a 20, 12, 7, 23, 14, 8, 20,14, 12, 10, race. Or something along that line. It sounds like you should be fine!! Also, congrats to your son. I ran Cross Country in High School and LOVED IT!!

WW Dave - You can not get the dining plan with the discount for Annual Pass Holders. However, sometimes you can get a better deal without the Annual Pass discounts. For TOT I paid about 30 more for the package with dining, than I would have for just the room at the AP rate. I can't wait for dining in OCT!!

Kristi - Congrats on the workout!!

Beth - I can't believe you ran with a migraine. You are definatley one tough chick!!

Christa - Congratulations on your bike ride!! 70 miles, WOW!!

Stephanie - I wish I knew about spider bites. My son is allergic to ants and mosquitos, we don't know about bees yet because he hasn't had the unfortune of being stung yet. What does it look like?

Nancy - I used to worry about those long miles too when I first started training last year, but it gets better. By the time you get close enough to really worry about those run you have already done some pretty hefty running and those long ones don't seem so daunting anymore. I never would have believed I could say, "O only 10 miles this weekend, that's nothing!".

Judy - Congrats on your walk!! There's absolutely nothing pathetic about that distance, especially for someone who just had surgery on their foot!

Now here is my training for today. My schedule for this week was supposed to look something like this....
M - 3
T - 6
Th - 3
Sa - 7

It's an easy week after last weeks 21 miles. However, the bug people are coming over on Tuesday so I can't run tuesday morning. I have football practice for Michael Tue and Thur this week, and then we have another game on Sat. So my schedule has been all rearranged. I did my 6 today, I'll do 3 tomorrow night at Michael's practice, 3 on Thurs night at Michael's practice, and I guess 7 on the treadmill Friday (or maybe i can make it out to the trail). I did my 6 today in world record speed, seriously!! For me anyway!! 6 miles in 48:52. mpm 8:09!! I did have to stop twice because of these stupid little dogs that were REALLY aggressive. I mean they came after me with jogging stroller and all, and weren't scared a bit when I yelled at them. The second time (when I had to run back past) I called animal control, but as I was on the phone with animal control a police officer showed up. Looks like I wasn't the only one on the trail having a problem with the dogs!! Well... I have to go clean my house!! I have found it's much easier to clean and keep clean now that Michael is back in school!! I'll check back in later.

Dana

LTO totally the past 2 weeks and unfortunately Life cut into my training. I have done about 10 miles in the last 2 weeks and I can totally tell. It feels like I am back at square one - I managed to get in a 1 mile run today on the treadmill and my calves were burning - not as bad as when I first started running 2 1/2 months ago but I could definately feel it. Goes to show I need to keep at my training even if its a little bit of running throughout the week - this no running has gotten me back to the begining (I hope not because TOT is coming up quick!! YIKES!!!)

I did book a room for the 2 nights after the TOT run - funny but I still haven't booked a room for the actually night of the run!! So for the 28th and 29th we will be staying at Beach Club Villas - I am so EXCITED - and will be getting a $100 gift card for dining at check in. Except now I have been getting emails (2 an hour) from Disney Destinations with my confirmation # - I got about 28 of them right now - same reservation, same confirm #. Some one told me that Disney is aware of this glitch - lets just hope it gets fixed soon!!! I appreciate the confirmation email but 30 of them is a little much!! LOL

Happy training to all and please pray for pixie dust for me to keep up the motivation to get some training in because I can't afford another set back any closer to TOT!!!
