Wk Of Aug 26 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Howard, Cam: re :laundy: when DH and I first met, he did all his own laundry. Over the years, I mostly took it over, but since he will do laundry when he needs to and offers up to do it and we often tag-team it (i.e. I start it and he finishes it) I cannot complain about it. He often does quite a bit of vacuuming too! The way I was raised, the women did the house work and the men didn't. It took a while for me to "give up" control of that. Now, I've no problem at all letting any one who wants to vacuum, do laundry, mow the yard, whatever, do so. I don't complain.

Christa: lord, slow down woman! I'm tired just reading what you will be doing over the next few days.

WWDave: SO--you've started the "Men Only, pretty princesses stay out" thread, eh? Ya think we ain't gonna read it? Ho boy do YOU have a LOT to learn ;)

Calcio: Botticelli's Venus? :love2: :love2:

Becky: re-iPod software. I have the original software for the iPod. I received the new generation shuffle earlier this year and was able to use iTunes, same account for the shuffle as for the original iPod. I named the shuffle differently from the regular one and haven't had a problem. The software "knows" what to do. What color are ya gonna get?

Leana: good luck on the 14 miler this weekend! Hope it's fairly cool for the run.

Kim: I just luv getting new shoes! I hope they work well for you.

Judy: I had no idea you were in such a chic place! All those celebs! And listening to Martha Stewart talk about why she left the area with the ankle bracelet--lord, you coulda sold that story for money!!!

I did get in 3 miles last night on the indoor track and finished just before all the teams got on the track. Today is a rest day and tomorrow is 5 miles. It's very quiet here as everyone seems to have left town already. We pick up our new car tomorrow morning and then on Sunday we are headed to the Jimmy Buffett concert (par-tay time). We are NOT taking the new car. But we are going with friends who want to spend 3 hours before the concert tailgating. Oh, this is gonna be good!

Happy Birthday, Calcio!!!

Martha--- I am so jealous you are going to a Jimmy Buffet concert. We listen to his CDs in the car every weekend. Good thing you have Monday to recover. Have a great time.

Cam--- We are so looking forward to meeting you and Howard tomorrow.

Today is a rest day for me. One LW scheduled for the weekend.

Hope everyone's injuries heal soon. Looks like everyone is doing well with their training.

Good luck to everyone with races this weekend.

Nancy

Thanks Martha! I am meeting the running group at 7 am, and the temp projected for Saturday morning is 48F! The joys of living up north...

Happy birthday Calcio!

Have a great long weekend everyone!!!!

OMG - Cam mentions Southwest and it dawns on my that I have been so preoccupied with flights to Vegas for New Year's Eve....that I haven't booked a flight for the marathon weekend yet!!!!

Ok, we are off to Six Flags - have a great holiday weekend everyone!

Nancy: say "hi" to Cam for me.

Cam: say "hi" to Nancy for me.

Nancy: say "hi" to Cam for me.

Cam: say "hi" to Nancy for me.

Will do, Jeannie! The next time you are getting together with Nancy, I am going to insinuate myself so we can meet and chat!

Jealous! So how clean does your house have to be before they clean it? :)

I was just joking about this with my colleague -- saying my house is too messy for me to bring in a cleaning service. I'd be embarassed! I am thinking that once the kitchen renovation is done, I could use the excuse that I need someone to come in and wipe down walls and baseboards, etc. due to all the plaster dust. Do you think that would work? :rotfl: And maybe in the next 2.5 months I should try to clean up some of the stuff that I won't be able to pass off as construction dust! :lmao:

Cam-keep up with the stretching. I really need to do more of that myself. I tend to get lazy about it.

Jackie-OK, I guess Helio can be her third favorite. There is a little video of him practicing on indycar.com that she should check out. He looks so cute! Did I tell you the story about TK jumping the fence and chatting with us while I was changing Clara's diaper on pole day at Indy? It was pretty funny and he is now my husband's favorite because of it. If TK is her second favorite, she will love this artice http://www.speedtv.com/commentary/37575/?page=1

Once again, I am only responding to Cam and Jackie. But really, I do read everyone's posts! And I am super excited that there might be another WISH member joining me at the Indy mini-marathon in May. Hmm, I wonder who that might be?

:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 I really think you need to post the link to pictures of the medal:banana:   I really want to add one to my collection, meager though it is!!

What a difference a few days of training takes!

Cleaning service: HIRED!!!! Now I just have to make enough pennies to pay for it. They start Sep 12.

Jealous! So how clean does your house have to be before they clean it? :)

I do think they need "You have not hired your mother" stamped on their business cards.

They mentioned about picking things up and putting them away.:confused3 :rotfl:

Just can't trust those pretty princesses. They are mischevious and unpredictable.

The days of the women doing all the house work was from the days when one income was enouth. Now if you want to have Disney and in some cases bail money, it takes both partners working.

I desided to take a rest day today since I got up late and Erica got off an hour early. I hadn't had a rest day this week so I was due. 21.5 miles for the week. As long as I get over 20 for a week I'm good with it.

Have a wonderful weekend team.

Nah--all one needs to do is marry high up in the Disney company---then you won't have to worry about it.:rotfl2:

Though I am not sure what it would do from a PR angle to explain the bail money.:rotfl2:

Just a quick drive-by :car:

Yesterday was a rest day. Today is 5 miles. We leave in a few minutes to pick up DH's birthday present. One of our cars came off lease this month so we bought a new one. It will be his car. It's an Acura RDX, carbon bronze pearl, taupe interior. Zippy thing too.

Then tomorrow it's off to the Jimmy Buffett concert for more birthday fun!!

WWDave: mischevious and unpredictable don't begin to describe us pretty princesses! But your words about your DW were lovely!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend everyone!!!

Oh my!:scared1: So all the Wild thangs are not in the Animal Kingdom? Our pretty princesses are not tame and timid creatures.

Dave:hippie:

Morning team. No training to report from me today--heading to work in a few (the pharmacy gig, just to clarify, since right now I'm holding 3, yes, 3 part-time jobs). DH just got back from his LR, however, and described it as "heaven". After the stonker he had last weekend, this is sweet revenge. He's now excited about our upcoming race.:cool1: Guess the 20 degree weather this weekend compared with last weekend's has a lot to do with it. Crossing my fingers that tomorrow morning's weather is just as good!

Craig--Happy Bday! Have fun with your new "toy". And have a wonderful time with your "Venus" wasting away again in Margaritaville!

Okay, gotta dress the kidlets before heading out! Have a great Saturday!

Stephanie - Don't get too buried by the 3 job. Glad to hear your DH LR went well!
Craig - Happy Birthday! Have fun at the concert tomorrow!
Lisa - Great job on the LR! Why oh why do us husbands not listen to our wives. Heres a joke - A man needed a brain transplant and the Dr. told the family it would cost 10,000. They asked if there was a cheaper option. He told them he could use a womans brain for 5,000. They asked why the difference in price. He answered that the womans brain was used. (Rimshot)
Leana - Good luck on the 14 miler today!
Cam - I would agree with Meghan and suggest you see a chiro for your hip. Years ago I had such severe back pain that I would not be able to stand up straight due to the back spasms. My family doc gave me an Rx for muscle relaxants. Didn't help, so I tried a chiro. Adjusted me and I walked out upright. I now see one on a monthly basis, and it helps that she used to run cross country in school and is still a runner (when she can fit it in to her schedule of being a Dr, a wife, and mommy) so she pays attentions to my hips, knees, and lower back. She also ran me through some core exercies to help me keep my core strong for my runs. Good Luck, I hope it works out for you.
Jackie - I hope your ankle recovers soon. Way to go on keeping up with cross training until you can get back on the road.
Judy - How is your foot handling the training? I hope it going well for you.
Christa - Good luck on your Long Ride this weekend! I actually tried to eat a powerbar on my LR yesterday...all I can say is Thank God I took my Claritin and Nasonex before my run.
Howard - Good luck with your last two semesters!
Kevin - My DW and I liked Pop. I hope they decide to finish the other half that's across the bridge that was supposed to be the legendary years.
Mel - Hope your endoscopy went well.
Angie - Wow....I hope you get over everything soon. Hang in there!
Steve - Its a lot cooler than what it was here in eastern Iowa, hopefully soon it will head your way. Did Hines start having these episodes after the CDC?
Mike - Thanks for intilling a large amount of jealousy, I haven't had any for awhile and was missing it:laughing: . In the latest iss of Trail Runner there is an article on barefoot running and they mentioned a shoe by Vibram called the Five Fingers. The upside would be that the skin may stay on your big toes. The downside, trapped sand.....ouch.
Meghan - You can find reviews in Consumer Reports and on TreadmillDoctor.com. When you go to look, try the TM out at varied speeds, incline, and compare what features they have. I have a Vision Fitness that I like and will come to love this winter when it's the usual icy and snowy Iowa winter. Good luck!
Kelley - Just wondering how your DH is doing? Whenever I see a cyclist on the road I think of your post about him getting hit and the jerk driving off.
Jen - Your marathon training is going to go well and your gonna do great in the full. You can do it, don't just believe it...know it.:thumbsup2

Training note:
This past week I've kept up on my runs, but lacked on the XT. Wednesday night I ran for an hour after work through part of the campus of Univeristy of Iowa and there were plenty of other runners out. I kept up a pretty quick pace so the younguns wouldn't go back to their dorms to talk about the old, slow, fat guy they saw on their run. Yesterday was my LR of 20 miles. I felt some trepidation about it as my LR of 18 miles last week was a stonker. I actually thought for the first time that this marathon goal of mine may be unattainable. I was wrong. The day was cool, with low humidity, and such a clear blue sky that I thought "This is why I run". I felt strong for the majority of the run and when I passed the 18 mile mark I felt a new rush thinking that this was now the farthest I have ever gone. I finished the 20 miles and even though my legs were sore (although not overbearingly so) I felt good. Funny note.....there was a road crew working on the asphalt that is the bike path, patching holes and smoothing out big dips. I passed them doing my back and forth three times (they were not there the 1st time) and when I passed them the last time, one guy was using a tamper to smack down the asphalt to smooth it flat. The troublemaker I am (Hi Anne ;) ) yelled out "Bad Asphalt, BAADD Asphalt...take that" as I ran past. I did not turn around to see the workers reaction.
Well, now I start the taper and see if I experience the Taper Madness that I have heard about. My marathon is 3 weeks from tomorrow and my mindset is this - Bring it on!

Happy Training!
