Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Hey, I'm first! Did a late evening run for 45 min. No idea how far could have been 2 miles or 4 just ran for the fun of it! Have a great week!

Not sure if I'm officially training or not, but I did 5 miles today that turned out great! I switched to R4/W2 since I really liked it at CDC and actually was faster than my last 5 mile run in June at R4/W1 :confused3 My official starting pace for training is 12:49, just a couple seconds off the LR pace recommended by the RW training plan. I think I'm going to be doing a modified RW Bingdon fusion plan, incorporating elements of RW, higdon and MFM. Today's run has me well on-pace for a 5:45 full...if I finish under 6 hours there will be :dancer: (if I can actually move after the full).

Carrie...:cake: party: :bday: Happy belated birthday! Hope the new job is going well and you get a chance to check in here soon!

Beth...sorry your run was ugly. Weather here is similar though we got a bit of a break with some rain yesterday and today. Good thing, too. It was 81 degrees at 6am yesterday morning when I left to take DD14 to band practice.

Lisa...great to see you back in action! Good luck with tomorrow's run!

PatBill...:wizard: for your back and glad that TOT works well with your bodily functions ;)

Dana...great pace on your 10-miler!

Terri...have fun at WDW! Sounds like you have a LOT going on this fall!

Andrew...sorry 'bout that stonker, dude. :wizard: for your 20 miler and your race!

Lily...hope your mom is doing well!

Kristi...if your DH is okay with it, then go for it! We're not much excitement on New Year's Eve either. I'm not really good at traveling without the fam...I still feel guilty about leaving DH to go to CDC.

Stephanie...great pace on your run!

NewWWDave...I saw those same bunnies today but mine weren't talking. Must be some kind of population explosion.

Kim...you'll do great on your half! Most of the hard work is already done!

Steve...sorry about your stonker. House cleaning counts as cross training so since you've already run today and will need a rest day tomorrow, I'd say no cleaning until at least Monday ;)

Renee...guy on stilts? How hot and humid was it? ;)

Jackie...:wizard: for your ankle!

Nancy...no wimps around here, you just chose an alternate training route for today :thumbsup2 .

Monica...snow??? Seriously???

Judy...how were you, Garmin and Amphipod doing today? Thanks for the reminder of our blessings.

Martha...I must have missed something. Does fixing the toilet cause trees to fall down? I'm using the same higdon novice plan but a couple weeks behind you. What do you think of those mid-week longer runs?

Cindy...glad you popped in for a bit!

Kristin...great to see you around as well!

Jen...hope you had a great trip to WDW! I finally made our Ohana ressies for after the full...I think we got something around 6:30 if anyone's interested!

I'm enjoying that fabulous football karma that occurs only in preseason when the Bucs play the Dolphins. I grew up as a Dolphins fan, but we now live in a huge Bucs TV market, so hardly ever see the Dolphins play. It's really cool to see them play each other!

I'm excited and scared to be training for the full. Glad to be back in action, but really freaked out about those 12+ LR :scared:

Just found this study on the post-exercise ice bath: http://bjsm.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/41/6/392. I'm going to try to pull the article so I can read the whole thing.

Not really sure what I did... but I can't put ANY weight on my left foot! I did step in a hole last Sunday while I was mowing the yard, but it didn't hurt until midweek (after my TM run on Tuesday night). It was only a little sore when I started this morning, so I really thought it was one of those you-can-run-through-it pains. Now it's swollen, so I'm icing and elevating, but unless there's serious improvement by Monday I'll have to let the doc look at it. And just when training was going so well! I'm actually using an old pair of DD's crutches to get around tonight, since I've been reduced to tears a couple of times when I've actually left the couch. I am NOT a happy camper. :sad1:

Jackie

Glad to see everyone has been getting in some good weekend training. Those of you on the 16-18 milers are scaring me, although I won't be there for another 8 weeks or so. What do you all do as far as refueling during those long runs. I have a camelbak that I get my water from but usually anything around 9-10 and longer I feel like I should be taking in some kind of sports drink or food. I have a bunch of food allergies and thus cannot use gus/gels/or powerbars which really limits me. All ideas are welcome on this one!

I got in a nice slow 7 miler yesterday at approx. 11 min per mile pace. Would've been faster but I had a strong side-stitch for about a mile of it and had to walk it off.

Jackie - I'm so sorry to hear about your possible injury. I hope a little rest and some ice will having you feel better soon! Keep us posted!

Kristin

Hey everyone. I am back from WDW and very depressed (along with my girls). I will post some pics this week. We left this morning and all I have to say is...... WOW, there were crowds coming in for that free dining promotion. I imagine the parks will be crazy this week. They were busier than we are used to last week and our hotel was pure craziness this morning.

Now I have to get back on track and plan.... did I mention I gained some extra baggage while at WDW? And no I don't mean the t-shirts I bought!!

Mel - My foot is feeling good after 2 weeks off, so I am going to try 4/2 or 3/2 for training. I am aiming at under 6 hours, but that will depend on how my foot acts!!!! You just always seem so much more speedier than me. I am hoping to lose 20 pounds before the Full, so maybe that will help me with my speed and I can keep up with you!!!

Meghan - I got the maps... now I just have to find them in my piles of mess!!!

OK, I really need to get some sleep. I have laundry piles to do and house cleaning. DD6's teacher is coming over tomorrow for a home visit and then she starts school on Monday. Oh and I don't have all her school supplies yet!!! Oh and grocery shopping... YIKES, I will be busy tomorrow.

Oh no!!!! Definitely get it checked out. I bet you might have sprained it or something and maybe the original step in hole didn't yield any different pain that would be noticable. Pixie dust for a speedy recovery!

Don't fret about training! I had knee surgery in the middle of training my last half marathon (had actually been training for the full). I couldn't run for well over a month and finished just fine!

Beginning of the season is actually best for these kind of snafus and in the big scheme of training, you should be fine!

Good morning everybody!

WOoooooohoooooo--I am back on the training bandwagon!

I will say it was OBVIOUS that i have NOT done a training run in well over a year.:rotfl:

But today is nothing but a victory! I rolled my butt out of bed, got dressed, and hit the road for Day 1 of Penguin Run/Walk training.:cool1:

35 minutes of 3/2's

Today's Victories:
I did not quit!
I did all the intervals!
I got home in one piece!

Total time (exclusive of warm up/cool down): 35 minutes
Distance: 2.67 miles
Pace: 13.1 minute mile on average

Back half was definitely slower than the front half. My 1st mile was a 12:01 pace.

Half way through got past the condo's and could hear the waves crashing against the shore.:goodvibes It was a bit humid--but not too bad. Timing my runs with sunrise so that I can run early, but not in the dark. Looks like it starts getting light about a half hour before "official" sunrise.

Happy Sunday everyone! Time to stretch--fuel up--and do a sprint to get ready for mass.

Hello everyone. Long time no post. :guilty:

The last month has been crazy with work, vacations, and house guests. Hopefully things will be getting back to normal now with school starting tomorrow.

Luckily I've been sticking to my training plan. Well, mostly. I think I missed one SW per week for the last 5 weeks. And then for the most recent week, I had to skip Sunday - Wednesday due to a pain in my inner right thigh. A regular SW on Thursday was 85% fine.

And my first-ever 23 mi LW was better than I hoped for yesterday. Biggest complaint is that my feet were on fire at the end. I started at 6:10 am and ended at 11:3X, just as the temp was creeping over 90. The last 4 miles had no shade. Ugh. But, I made it.

23 mi, 5:22:53, 14:02 pace.

My final LW will be 26 (I know, unusual) on Sept 15, then a 4 week taper to the Baltimore Marathon on Oct 13. I open to suggestions if anyone has some better ideas.

Have a great week, everyone. :)

Oh, one last thing...DS15 made the cross country team. He never considered himself a runner before, but he loves this team. :thumbsup2

Nice walk Kelley, you are doing super. I have the same problem with hot feet by the end of the marathons. It has a lot to do with the shoes, a good roomy toe box and good cushioning helps a lot.

Rest day for me, I did an easy mile and some stretching just to stay loose while waiting for Erica to get off work so we could go to breakfast.

I bagged 25 miles last week dispite the heat and humidity, this week is going to be down from the 100 degree days so it should feel better. Erica is over her cold so an LSD day is on tap for tomorow.

I have a question for the Disney vets. If I have an annual pass and I book a Disney hotel, like Pop, can I get Disney Dinning with it or do you have to by a package with park tickets to get the Dinning?

Have an awesome day WISH Team.

Morning WISH Team!

I'm on my way out but wanted to let all know I've updated The WISH Team calendar. Please check and add your event too!

My only thought is you are doing a full a month before a full? I don't know of any plans that call for that, are you following a particular plan then? I'd be interested in knowing of it. If it is working for you, you go!

Sorry for the continued drive-bys. LTO and all...

Howdy fellow WISHers! Great to see everyone's getting their training in, despite varied and not always hospitable conditions :)

The past couple of days I realized I'd been trying to ramp up my speed and pace too much too quickly, and it wasn't making me very happy to do my runs, so I decided to chill and back down to a slower (and more comfortable) rate, and try not to worry so much about how long it actually takes me to complete my distances.

I did 5.5 miles both last night and on Friday night, both in somewhere between 11-12 min/mi, and felt pretty good. I didn't really have a long run this week, but my total mileage was about 10% more than last week, so I'm taking it as a 'win' :woohoo:

Today's a rest day for me, so I'll be cheering all of you doing your LRs and regular training today from the sidelines :cheer2:

have a great Sunday, everyone!

Dave - To get the DDP you would have to buy a package. The DDP has changed signifcantly in 2008 and many are saying its not worth it.

As an AP holder you do have the option of purchasing a DDE card. This gets you 20% off most restaurants (includes alcohol). If you like to dine in the nicer restaurants it can be quite a savings.

Oh an as an AP holder you also get discounts off certain restaurants at certain times. Check you AP holder for the info.

Good morning everyone!

4.5 ugly, boring miles on the TM this morning. It’s time to move it outside.

No foot issues to report.

Disnutt – WTG with the 45 minute run.

Mel – Glad to hear you had a good run. How’s the foot?

Kristin – WTG with the 7 miler! Could you concoct your own sports drink?

Jen – Glad you guys had a good time at the World.

Lisa – Glad your training is going well!

Kelley – WTG with the 23 miler!

Lily – Have a great training day.

Moonie – WTG with the training.

WWDave – Not sure about the AP and DDP deal.

:)

Minnie, I will be getting the dinning experience just before the ToT, Robert had told me about that but I couldn't remember about the other way. Thanks for clearifing it for me. The senile among us tend to get the details confused.:guilty:

Moon I came to the same conclusion about trying to maintain to fast a pace during this heat and humidity. Slower is better right now. A PR is wonderful but the cost right now is just to much.

Total drive-by....
I just finished 32 mins. of my toning DVD, plus warm up & cool down.
3 miles on the track on deck for tomorrow!

1. You will make out like a bandit if you are elibigle for the Disney Dining Experience. YOu do need to get this ahead of time. And if you get it too close to your trip, you can pick up the letter at EPCOT (let DDE know) and you can use that if you don't have your DDE card. 20%...including alcohol. I relished getting a discounted frufru drink at Poly to go drink on the beach while watching the fireworks. EACH person must have their own though. You used to be able to get two (like for you and a spouse or partner) but they changed that.:headache: And the person whose name is on the card MUST be present to use it.

2. I think what you have to do..and what most do--is they have to get a package. But you can get Disney dining for all days--but just do a 1 day park ticket. YOu would have to evaluate if that is worth your while. As a Florida Resident with a seasonal pass--I do run into that problem. They want me to buy tickets when I already have them. That suggestion was mentioned around here on the boards.

23 mi, 5:22:53, 14:02 pace.

Awesome job, Kelly!

My only thought--the elites do have full training runs in anticipation of a full event...but it is not typical of novices. However--some of us nutjobs are doing a half marathon the day before a full marathon....so I'm not sure yours is any worse than what we are doing.:rotfl: Maybe for the last 3 miles--kick it down a notch...you will log the miles....but at an easier pace.

Or just do 24. Not sure what plan you are on--but WOW! You have done 23 miles already....and 3 weeks until yoru 4 week taper....hmmmm.....

Kristi1357--GOOD JOB!

Good morning....oppsss afternoon team!!!!

Dh and I just got back from our 12K...waited to long it was very hot but not too humid at least. 12K in 1:49 which is just over a 9K pace...need to work on that but I am OK with it. Scotia 1/2 marathon gives you 4 hours to complete so not too worried about speed at this point.

DisnuttWay to get out there last night.

MelWTG on your 5M and pace that is great. I love football but I am more a Canadian Football League fan, I do follow the NFL but I usually pick a team to cheer for and the last few years it has been the Falcons because I liked Mike Vick....wellllll ......My new team is going to New Orleans. I really started watching them towards the end of last season and into the superbowl. I think that city needs something to cheer about.

JackieSorry to hear about your foot, hope it is nothing to serious

KristinWTG on your 7M!!!!

JenHope you and the family had a great time in WDW!!!!! I would love to lose 20pds before Jan as well.

LisaCongrats on your 2.67!!

KellyWTG on your 23M and great pace!!!!

DaveWTG on getting in 25M last week, my weekly total was 38Kfelt great considering training has been few and far between these last few weeks

LilyHi!!!!!!

MoonieWTG on your 2 5.5M!!!!!!

VicWTG on your 4.5 on the TM....I find the TM workouts so hard but you gotter done!!!!! Glad no foot problems

KristiCongrats on your workout today. Good luck on your 3M for tomorrow.!!!!!!

Have a good one all.

Kim

Well everyone, I live to tell the tail of 18 miles.......Wow, what an experience. I did it, the longest I have ever run in 4 hours. I would like to have gone faster, but the migrane didn't let that happen. My head hurt pretty bad, but I continued to plod along. I walked several times, but pretty much ran it. I had a potty break at mile 11 out of necessity, but did get a drink and cooled down a little. Probably at least a 15 minute break, since the soda machine didn't want my soggy dollar bill. Had to 'dry' it off in the BR under the hand dryer.

This was the first time I really 'listened' to how my body was feeling. I am sure it's good to have some idea how bad we will feel running 26.2 miles. I usually try to 'tune it out' but I really want to be able to run through the discomfort, so I tuned in and felt it all! Not to bad, but it's funny how every body part has something going on! I did end up with some chub rub from my shorts being soaking wet from sweat!

The weather was ok......I started out just after 7:00a and it was good until later morning. This was a cooling breeze here and there that made it ok. All in all it was ok. I am glad it is over. I will have only one more super long run before my marathon which will be 20 miles in two weeks.

Jackie: I hope the foot is ok....take it easy over the next couple of days.

Kristen: I actually take 2 bottle of 1/2 strength gatorade and a bag of mini fig newtons to eat along the way. I only eat a banana to start, so I do need to take something along for a pick me up.

I hope everyone else is fairing well this weekend.

Beth

Beth - fabulous job on your 18 miler! :woohoo:

Kim - great job on the 12k in the heat! :cheer2:

Ok, gotta run & do stuff around here since Zack is actually napping! :woohoo:

Kelly - WTG on that LW! You are doing great! I know lots of people have totally different opinions about training, but if you have planned for a 26 mile walk then a good taper (and 4 weeks is good) then go for it. I have run several marathons with different taper times and different mileage requirments. I have gone up to 26.2, 18, 24, and 20 miles. I think a plan needs to be judged by how you feel at mile 20. When I plan for and go up to at least 24 I have to say that I feel better at mile 20 than when I went lower in mileage. So that is my $.02. Good luck and congrats to DS15!

Beth - WTG on the run! Great time!

Did my 70 mile ride yesterday!:cool1: Was 97 when we finished and the course was very hilly. There was one hill that was over 2 miles long! Another one was called "Walk Up Hill". I went up that one at a blistering 12 MPH!:lmao: But all in all it was good. Ave pace was around 18/19 MPH but got up to 33.5 a few times!:rolleyes1
